Guest Reviews
- Kevin. J (8/5): - Room very small but clean and quiet.
- Louise Smithies (8/5): - Clean comfortable room, friendly helpful staff.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Very welcoming - On arrival met and made to feel welcome. Room was fine parking easy met my needs as a single person.
- JENNIFER (10/5): Lovely stay - Lovely stay.Clean room ,comfy bed and tasty breakfast.More than fair price
- Simon (10/5): - Larissa was very helpful and made us very welcome. Thankyou.
- Hugh (2/5): - Very poor facilities in small room. Left after one night although booked for 2. Would never consider staying there again. Expensive for poor accommodation. Lino flooring, tv was US, No lights near the bed to read with, No shaver point. Ideal for poor students, but not OAP`s. Breakfast menu had cheaper prices in copy in the room than in the Public bar which were over the top. Pot of tea @ £3.30 each etc etc. Very disappointed.
- DEBRA (10/5): - Always a good stay at the Chequers.Good food and welcoming staff.
- ian (6/5): Staycation - It's OK for needing a bed for the night.
- Sally (10/5): - Lovely staff and great comfortable room and facilities
- Harneet Kaur (10/5): - A great stay for a night, was exactly what I needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
- M G (8/5): - I was disturbed by people moving about in the room above me just as I was about to go to sleep.
The host was very friendly.
I struggled to turn the cold water on in the shower so I had a very uncomfortable, hot shower. However my nephew, when he came to collect me shortly afterwards, had no problem turning the cold water on in the shower. So I’m not sure what the problem was!
- LASZLO (10/5): - Convenient location with welcoming staff.Clean room and superb full english.
- Mark (10/5): - Friendly staff and great spot, lovely room with lots of nice touches
- Scott (10/5): - Room was clean and cool, friendly management, good food and nice pub.
- Louise (4/5): - Basic tiny room with no hairdryer, only one old mug to make coffee for two of us and a bright green emergency exit sign which shone all night. Only one very old flat pillow each.
However, place very clean.
- Gaynor (8/5): - Basic room served a purpose to visit family closely. The room was clean with en-suite bathroom. Twin beds. Staff were friendly
- VICTOR (10/5): - Nice accommodation setup.Great location,good food and welcoming staff.
- Ian (6/5): - One-night stay for work. Room was at the back of the pub, but did not get any noise from the pub. Not a lot of floor space, only found one socket to charge my mobile. Ensuite was okay. WiFi did not work, TV was okay. I asked for decaf in room but not supplied. Very expensive (£99) for what it was.
- Marcus (6/5): - The room was small and quite dark and the furniture was quite dated. There was a kettle but only one cup and we had to ask for extra towels because only one was provided. Nevertheless the bed was comfortable and we both slept well and the shower was good.
- Linda (6/5): - Whilst the room was clean and quiet, there were several basics missing.
No bedside lights and the switch for overhead light only by the door.
Only One electric socket , situated under the desk , so hands and knees to plug in phone charger.
Shower “ room” very small and awkward to get into. No shelf in there for toiletries.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great value for money - Nice and perfect and I had a great nights sleep! Lovely customer service.
- Matthew (10/5): Matt flynn - Very friendly welcome and helpful staff. Lovely warm rooms with great beds and excellent tv and facilities. Very good value for money
- James (10/5): Nice B&B / pub in Amersham - Was in Chesham area for a short business trip. Nice little B&B with several rooms behind the pub. Quiet, comfortable, clean bathroom, good WiFi. A little chilly on a December night in the room but not unbearable. Attentive and gracious host , who doubles as the proprietor of the attached pub (which also offers a nice dinner menu and beer selection). Great cooked to order full English breakfast in the pub as well. Very reasonable price and good value.
- Ian (8/5): - Easy to book in. Pleasant staff. Room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. Real ale in the bar a bit cold but well kept.
- Damian (10/5): - One night in The Chequers to see my friends.Have been kindly given the function room for our little gathering.Good food and accommodation.
- GINA (10/5): Lovely stay - Lovely stay with great customer service. The manager arranged a ground floor room suitable for my circumstances. Good food
- JENNIFER (10/5): - Convenient location.Nice room, warm and cosy. Recommend the full English breakfast
- Renatta (10/5): - Fit for purpose. Good accommodation with easy parking. I had to wait a bit longer for the food, but good. Fair price
- s (4/5): - I went to the bar to log in and the person couldn't find it. I went to the toilet and on my return he had not found it but took me to a vacant room. The phrase "couldn't swing a cat" comes to mind. The bed was up against one wall and there was less than 2 foot from the bed to wall on the other 3. There was not room for a wardrobe. The tv was on a wall at right-angles to the bed so you got neck ache after 15 mins.
The shower was excellent. But the chemical toilet stank from my arriving to leaving. There was no plug in the washbasin.
The quilt was not as big as the bed and so it was on the floor after 5 mins of sleep.
HOWEVER, on arrival I asked about parking and was told "it is anywhere to the right of the car park". There were no bays for parking and so it was - park where you like!
On my return (approx 20:30) on the second night, there was nowhere to park. It was chaotic and several cars were blocked in.
I HAD TO PARK HALF A MILE AWAY IN OLD AMERSHAM. AS A BLUE BADGE HOLDER THIS WAS DISAPPOINTING, TO SAY THE LEAST.
- Shirley (4/5): - The host is amazing, can’t do enough for you. The room had a glass door with a small section as a window at the top. The bed was very hard and the pillow was very thin. It’s basic and overpriced. The surrounding area is run down, it’s on a busy road and doesn’t feel safe.
- Sandra (8/5): - Our room was spotlessly clean if a little dated. Plenty of storage space although there was no hair dryer or bedside lamps and only 1 plug available to use. Space around the bed was very limited but the bed itself was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. Yes I would return but I would request a downstairs room as I didn’t like the metal stairs and landing.
- Nadine (10/5): - Clean and comfy accommodation. Good location with easy access to train station.
- aleesha (4/5): - the bathroom tap didn’t work properly - the water would go everywhere - the shower pipes got really hot my boyfriend nearly burnt himself. every time someone next door or below would flush their toilet it vibrates the room and it was very loud. it woke us up multiple times - the door didnt actually shut properly. it locked but didn’t look it. area is nice nd convient for a 1 day but not more that than - the bed was so uncomfortable and pillows were rock solid.
- Harry (10/5): - Easy access to London. Welcoming staff ,good food and comfy bed.
- Angus (6/5): - Basic and overpriced
- kelvin (8/5): Wembley stay - It’s a pub with rooms at the back, not the biggest but perfectly functional. Very hot in the room, could do with a fan maybe? The lady behind the bar got a little flustered, made a call and got it sorted. Also very European when it came to bar service. Overall will stay again if needed
- Richard (10/5): Good stay - Clean and practical accommodation in a good location for our two night stay.
Amersham is a lovely small town and good travel links in to London via Metropolitan line.
- katarina (10/5): - Stayed 1 night and loved it. The place has been recomended by my sister and it is worth it.Warm, clean room with great breakfast.staff very welcoming
- DEBRA (10/5): - Welcoming staff,clean room,good food.
- Eileen (10/5): First stay at a B& B - So pleased with the accommodation & how friendly the welcome was. Had a lovely breakfast in the morning, freshly made. First time staying in a b & b in an inn. Would definitely stay there again.
- Marta (8/5): Warm and cosy - Back again, and loved it.Good value and switched on staff.
- LARISA (10/5): - Convenient location, good food and cosy room. The manager was kind and arranged a late check out.
- Michael (6/5): - The welcome was good the lady at the bar was pleasant, the food offer was quite disappointing basically frozen pizza and packet paella for which restaurant prices where charged ,the pub was empty on a Saturday night only us and 2 drunk locals , the room was a little cold heating was inadequate for time of year i could not recommend the place ,
- John (6/5): - Helpful staff
- Helen (8/5): - Quiet place to stay, comfortable bed, good shower and TV. (I needed scissors though to open the shower gel and shampoo sachets!)
First night and morning a bit cold as heating had been turned off. However when I rang the inn on the second evening the heating was turned back on immediately and the room was nice and warm very quickly.
- HILARY ANNE (10/5): - The staff were very helpful. It was close to Amersham Old Town which is lovely.
- James (8/5): - Clean and cheap enough. Would recommend for a one night stay for convenience
- Graham (10/5): - The Hosts and staff were brilliant very friendly and helpful, a very good place if you have a dog
- Michael (6/5): - It's a modest B&B but clean and for us convenient. Not much on the way or extras in the room but the plumbing worked very well. Breakfast was not included but was a cut above the usual offerings in B&Bs. Staff were very friendly and for a 1 night stay it was fine.
- Nadia (10/5): Nice stay, friendly staff, good real ale - Nice stay, friendly staff, good real ale.Clean room and parking on site for my van was convenient.
- George (10/5): - Nice little guest house. Helpful friendly
owners. Close to train station
- Michael (8/5): Room was far too small for 2 people - Very warm welcome and the food was excellent (breakfast and evening meal). But the big problem was the tiny twin bedded room we were given. It is the smallest room I have stayed in and I have stayed in a lot of rooms. It was nowhere near big enough for two adults and due to this did not feel welcoming or give me reason to spend much time in it. A fellow guest, was given a room that was double the size of ours and with two double beds and he was on his own. He also booked much later than I did and yet still ended up with a much bigger room all to himself. It was only a one night stay, which was just as well, two or three nights would have been unbearable in such a tiny room.
There were no rooms in the main house, which should have been stated in the listing. Speaking to fellow guests it was obvious that the smallest room was allocated to the only guests who were not single occupants.
So, great welcome, good food but terrible room.
- Brenda (10/5): - Good value , clean & great breakfast
- Terry (8/5): Good for a Wembley stopover. - We were on a trip to Wembley and this is a great little place to stay overnight. 15 minutes walk from the Tube and bars/restaurants in Amersham and just near a Tesco to stock up for the journey home!!
Rooms are small but comfy enough and absolutely spotless. Room only but paid £12 for a full English and a brew and it was really nice.
What makes it though are the staff, who are all lovely and extremely friendly.
- James (10/5): - My wife and I stayed in a double room in the new building. comfortable bed and warm room. easy parking for our camper van. great breakfast
- Stephen (10/5): 15th century gem - I was pleased with the room comfortable bed kettle with coffee and tea.
- Laura (10/5): - Good sleep,good food,great location.
- Robert (6/5): Not Quite My Type of Stay (but otherwise nice) - Wasn't at all what I expected when I arrived. Car parking was a bit scrappy (cars everywhere, no marked bays). The staff were nice, but the meals were pretty pricey for what was effectively oven food. The room was very small, and I had to clean the shower before using it.
It would suit someone looking for an authentic English country type feel, but alas, it wasn't for me!
- Leigh (10/5): - I stayed for 2 nights in a twin room.. everything I needed.. The guys that run the place are beautiful people.. food was great..interesting building.. interesting energy.. will be back. 💚
- James (10/5): - Good seevice, pleasant stay.
- John (6/5): - Had to wait outside in the dark for 30 minutes for someone to let me check in.Carpark very dark and pot holed steps down to room 11 covered in wet leaves.
- Paul (10/5): - I really liked the bathroom, especially the door for the shower. I mean my only wish was it was a double bed and not two singles joined together. Hosts were welcoming and friendly but I don't feel that pub after midnight is a safe environment for women.
- George (10/5): - Nice B&B. Welcoming staff,comfortable bed and great breakfast.
- Isn (8/5): Straight Forward Booking - Quick Sleepover, easy to book and find property, had a beer before bed
- David (10/5): Old fashion coaching Inn with superb service. - Very friendly and helpfull staff. This grade 2 listed building with new modern room to a high standard was a welcome rest. I will be using again when next in that area and highly recomend it to you.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Super friendly and welcoming - Super friendly and welcoming. Adequate, clean and comfortable room in a great location with good facilities. Tea and coffee in room. Fab breakfast. Perfect for a one night stay.
- Danny (10/5): - Simple, clean room and good food. Close to underground station. Wi-Fi a bit iffy
- Elaine (4/5): - Very depressing room with very little natural light. Curtains didn’t cover window properly so I had to use the filled kettle as a weighted item to push curtain further back to give me privacy. Only the harsh overhead light in main room, no table lamp. Had planned to eat in pub, but menu was very expensive for a spit and sawdust pub. I was in the location for a funeral and this place depressed me even further.
- mark (10/5): - Good value for money. Had an en-suite room at the back, clean room and owner kindly safely stored my bike.
- Jaime (4/5): - The property is like a small box, elec light kept flickering and then all went out completely. Had to use torch from mobile to see anything. Good job we only needed it for 8 hours to just sleep in.
- Elena (10/5): - Nice family room,clean and comfy beds.good evening meals.
- Suzanna (8/5): - Owner very welcoming & helpful.
Room tiny. Mattress frightful. Bedding ghastly nylon. Very overpriced@ £90 single room, no bath only shower.
- radu (10/5): - Very clean and comfortable and extremely quiet, nice place great location, rooms and facilities excellent
- Simon (2/5): Don't stay here! - The room was cramped, the window could not be opened and there was no ventilation in either the bedroom or the bathroom, the radiator came on in the middle of the night so it became very hot and stuffy by the morning.
The shower was very small and the sliding door was hanging on by one wheel so it could not be closed, there was black mould all over the shower area.
The fairly large television appeared to be of good quality but it did not work as the signal was not strong enough.
There was only one double socket and the kettle had to be stood on the floor for it to be safely plugged in.
There was noise from the room above until the early hours of the morning.
I think it is the worst overnight stay I have ever had.
Admittedly it was fairly cheap but even on a budget one expects better conditions than this.
- David (4/5): - If you must stay in Amersham and are on a budget then The Chequers Inn will do a job, but don't expect much from the place. My room was dirty and the bed wasn't comfortable (I was only there for one night so perhaps this was an anomaly?). Even though this was the cheapest option in Amersham it feels very expensive for what it is.
- Riikka (10/5): I can highly recommend! -
Lovely place with a very short walking distance to Amersham old town! Very friendly and attentive service and lovely food made on order. Clean and new room and I woke up with birds singing which was lovely.
I liked that the check out was only noon and the breakfast was available until that as well.
- Adetunji (10/5): Happy with price and service - Room was clean, large enough with all facilities. Towel was a bit on old side but clean. It was very quiet for a pub type place
- Doug (8/5): Quiet stay. - It was a very convenient if not a little pricey for the level of accommodation but it was last minute. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating and the room was in a very quiet spot all recently furnished.
- Gordon (8/5): - Pretty basic twin room but all I needed.
- Mathew (6/5): - .
- Jayne (8/5): Family visit - We used it as a base to see famy i nearby Chesham.
- Toni (6/5): Somewhere to crash after a night out - The staff and location are absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, the bed and bedding not so much however if you are looking for somewhere to crash after a night of drinking its absolutely fine.
- Quentin (6/5): Basic comfortable inn with no frills - The accommodation is attached to a local pub. It is very much a local. I have known the inn a long time and lived around the corner from it but never really used it. I get the impression that the accommodation is a fairly recent addition. The owners were friendly and welcoming and I was out most of the time so was not able to form a fuller opinion of their hospitality and went out for breakfast to meet family. The pub itself didn't feel very welcoming at check in however this may be a hang over from when I used to know it. The accommodation itself is basic, the room comfortable enough however the position of the bathroom door meant there was no room for a bedside table and no light switch to turn off the only light from the bed which was a bit annoying but pretty minor irritation. Onsite free parking was a bonus. Well located for Amersham and local routes.
- DAVID (8/5): - THE ROOM WAS FINE, WELL EQUIPPED BATHROOM WHICH WAS SPOTLESS AND THE BEDS WERE COMFORTABLE
- Christopher (4/5): - Positives: Mattress was comfortable. Negatives: Smelly carpet. Rusting shower fittings. Architrave peeling off door, crude conversion of upper floor to letting rooms. Not particularly clean. Some road noise. Winding stairs tricky to use safely carrying luggage. Wash basin tap was ludicrously complicated to use - we couldn't get hot water out. Letting side desperately needs a make over. No sign of an owner when we were there, the bar maid let us in and that was all we saw. Fire - final escapes controlled by dead locks which I believe is illegal, ditto the gas boiler (with no cover) hanging off the stairwell wall on the only route out! Same price as a Premier Inn but no comparison in quality.
- Harry (10/5): Overall very nice - Rooms as part of a pub. Only stayed briefly but overall pleasant.
- Harry (10/5): - No problems, cottage next to a decent pub. Friendly staff.
- Andy (10/5): - Exactly the sort of overnight accommodation I had hoped for clean and comfortable, very friendly reception would definitely recommend.
- Liam (10/5): Comfy and charming - The stay was behind the popular and busy pub, was able to get free onsite parking and was out of the way and very quiet considering the noisy pub, brilliant keepers of the place, friendly greeting and a small cosy single bed in a small room with a tv, toilet and shower, had some tea and coffee for me also, lovely, cosy and clean, slept well and the next morning I had a lovely fry up in the pub, lovely and calm morning fry up before my long drive home, perfect start to the day, thanks for having me
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Ok
- Chris (10/5): - It's a good place to stay, with helpful staff. Yes, it was comfortable and clean.
- David (2/5): avoid - Worst experience ever. Booked for 5 nights left after one night, small room, one plug, glass door with a light shining in all night. Complained not even a refund.
AVOID ALL COSTS
- Alexis (8/5): - Nice and clean and friendly good value for money
- Maureen (8/5): - very helpful staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very modern and clean could do with a few more elec points. Good value for money highly recommend this place.
- Robert (4/5): Very disappointing - Food was very limited and poor the bar area stunk of grease. My room had a kettle but no socket to plug it in to apart from the one behind the bed had to get extension lead the in side of the kettle was full of lime scale and an orange scum on the filter.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good value for money. Great location , accommodation basic but clean and comfortable. The owner couldn’t be more helpful
- PhiltheBrit (2/5): - When we arrived the property had a party in their private function room below the accomodation. It was so loud that the manager had to take me back out into the car park around the side of the building to speak to me.
I am still waiting on Expedia's decision with my refund.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, nice room-comfortable bed, superb breakfast.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Staff didn't speak English. No bedside tables .kettle but no where to plug it in. When i asked about this, staff had to go and ring someone as no English
