- Arthur (10/5): - Nice clean room but a bit on the small side, excellent shower. Noisy in the evening untill closing time in the pub downstairs but then lovely and quiet. We didn't eat here in the evening as we were meeting people in Pickering but the food certainly looked good! Breakfast next morning was excellent with a great choice of continental style and the various cooked options. Parking in the car park is very limited but there is easy street parking at the front. It's a very quiet area so I had no worries about that. Thoroughly recommended!

The locals clearly loved the Royal Oak which was another good sign! Such a great stay and only good things to say about it!

- Stephen (10/5): Lovely pub stay - A lovely stay at the Royal Oak for one night. Very friendly and attentive staff. They were more than happy to arrange late access to the property due to us having to return to the room late at night. Breakfast was excellent, with options for full English or kippers, plus plenty of toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurt. The car park is very small, and can't accommodate all vehicles, however there is ample parking on the road at the front of the property. The room was comfortable with clean linens. The shower water temperature was a bit hit and miss, but overall fine.

The chef produced some wonderful meals We've stayed in larger rooms but that didnt matter as there was everything you needed with the added bonus of being so lovely and warm as we chose to stay during the coldest few days of this year. York, Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors were all not far away. We'll definitely be back.
- Nicola (10/5): - We stopped for an overnight stay at the Royal Oak. It was a really friendly and traditional pub serving lovely food and ales. Staff were incredibly friendly and warm. We had dinner in the restaurant and breakfast, both of which were delicious. The accommodation is situated in a small village location, very quiet but lovely. It was exactly what we wanted. If I have any complaints it was the bedrooms were a little on the cosy side, but adequate enough for the two of us.

- Robert (10/5): A Great Place To Stay - What a great place to stay, perfect location for access to the North York Moors and the coast, the food in the restaurant (inc breakfast) was superb, the staff couldn't be more helpful. The room we had was a great size with all the facilities you could want. At the end of the day we wanted a cozy hotel, away from the main drag with great food and beer and The Royal Oak Inn ticked all the boxes
- Gary (10/5): A lovely stay - My partner and I enjoyed a lovely one night stay at the Royal Oak. The staff were welcoming, the room nice and comfortable (good water pressure in the shower especially) and the food (both the included breakfast and a separate evening meal) excellent. I am always impressed by small businesses that have implemented very encompassing covid19 working practices and the Royal Oak had implemented these to an extent that many national and international retail chains would have been proud of (staff wearing masks, hand sanitiser in place, changed practices to reduce contact etc), it reassures you that all the other details have been taken care of. Both my partner and I have already mentioned wanting to stay again. Highly recommended.

- Michael (8/5): Friendly staff&good food, but be careful with room - Royal Oak sits on the Main Street of a small village in lovely countryside. We enjoyed our stay, with helpful, friendly team, and good dinners and breakfasts. The room was lovely, but it’s location wasn’t. Tripsdale is a superior room, and well appointed, but at the front of the hotel, above the bar, and with v low old windows. In the sunny weather we had, this meant direct eye contact with those sitting outside having a drink, even when sitting on the loo! The alternative, which we quickly employed, was curtains drawn and bathroom blind down, meaning lights on in daytime. Room was also above the bar, so noisy till after closing time. So, good in lots of ways, but I wouldn’t stay in Tripsdale again.

- Joan (10/5): Well situated - Gillamoor is a quiet village, very well situated for exploring the area. The Inn holds a prime position next to the green where you can sit outside and eat or drink. We had a superior room with a massive bed and plentiful supplies for making hot drinks. The staff were friendly and helpful.

- Clive (10/5): Fabulous hotel - We booked 2 bedrooms as it was my Dad's birthday. Everything was perfect. the bedroom was cute, warm, comfortable, clean. The shower was powerful and hot, what was needed after a cold day walking the hills. The breakfast was delicious and copious. We ate at the restaurant in the evening, a very good meal. I would recommend this hotel to my friends and I do hope to stay there again. Fabulous experience.

We chose the superior room which was clean comfortable which had a large ensuite bathroom/shower. Again clean & well appointed. As with most country inns, the bedrooms are above the public bar areas & whilst there was some sounds of people & music it did not disturb. We stayed 2 nights & ate in both nights from an extensive & varied menu, which was served well cooked in ample proportions. Breakfast was pre-ordered the night before & again was well cooked. There was a buffet style fruit drinks, cereal or fruit. Hot drinks & toast were served to your timing. We enjoyed our 2 night stay & would certainly stay again and recommend.

Sadly though I had paid for breakfast with my booking it was not available to me as the hotel did not start serving breakfast until 08:30. Ridiculous! I have never in 40+ years of traveling stayed in an establishment that starts breakfast this late. The late breakfast time was not published on the Expedia website. I think I deserve a refund.

- Verified traveler (4/5): Unaccommodating and unhelpful - We had lunch and bed and breakfast. Firstly, lunch was fine, the two young staff were impeccably well-mannered. Secondly, late breakfast times were not stated on the booking websites. Past 8:30am is too late if you have to catch the Pickering steam train. We explained to the more mature blond lady (we assumed was the manager) if there was any chance of breakfast any earlier. We received a uncomfortable negative response with no flexibility or alternatives. We begrudgingly ticked the 8:30 time on the breakfast selection slip and ask for the cooked food to be ready for 8:30am. We arrived ten minutes earlier, doors locked, continental available at 8:30am, cooked 8:40am, served by the same unaccommodating lady. We watched her arrive at 7:45am! Don't stay here if you want breakfast and be out before 9:30am.
- Jane (8/5): Little country pub- type hotel. - Pleasant modest,small hotel on edge of North Yorkshire moors. Staff were friendly and helpful. Menus were interesting and varied. They catered for my glutein-free diet. Bed was a bit too soft and duvet bulky and heavy. Had that changed and slept better. Other facilities were adequate with car parking close to our room in the annex.

I had booked for 2 adults by mistake but not offered single rate when I checked in. Bed comfy and clean dead flies in bathroom though.Breakfast very good but the service was very poor and the staff a bit off when we asked if we could have a table for 5. I went for some fresh fruit to find they had already cleared it away even though we had not finished eating the breakfast. There are much better and less expensive places to stay near by just dont leave it late to book
