Guest Reviews
- Robert (4/5): - Shower pressure was non existent very old and dirty won’t be back
- Peter (8/5): - Very quaint cabin, mattress needs renewal, loved the wines
- Charles (10/5): - one downer was the fact the restaurant isn't open for dinner on a Saturday night, we had the weekend planned and dinner at this beautiful place was on the list, our fault for not looking properly? perhaps. we just assumed. luck of the draw with rooms, yes, all superior but some are better than others. needed to really look at the offerings and try to pick. saying that, we loved the room we were in it just wasn't the one in the photo we saw booking online. the dude at check-in and in the cellar door really sold the place with his enthusiasm (and his red hair) his recommendation was next time try for room. 28?
- Pantelis (8/5): - Nice accommodation in a quiet and secluded spot.
- Shayne (10/5): - Very cozy
- Jorge (6/5): Needs some TLC - Nice enough resort. The cottage we had was not in the best state of repair and was full of cockroaches. The insect screens were broken. We chose it because of the winery and restaurant, but it was closed while we were there.
- Andrew (8/5): - Beautiful historic buildings
- Ray and Jacqui (6/5): - The accommodation was ok for what it was. comfortable with a rich history of the buildings and the vinyard.
Its not accommodation if u expect luxury but it was nice.
However the restaurant was closed. The chef had quit. No warning no information during the booking process regarding the restaurant being closed.
We booked wanting to stay not drive and experience the restaurant and wines. Not to be. So we just left the next morning a tad disappointed with the service
- Yichi (10/5): - Scenic!
- Ingela (10/5): - -
- Bruce (8/5): - Historic property with remodelled buildings. We stayed in former owners cabin. Large but limited lighting, AC not made large rooms, bathroom fine, property excellent, reception closes at 5 PM, property in midst of estate's vineyard, an excellent free bottle of their white wine. You need a car to access local shops and dining except lunch at facility. We loved it but it has limitations for some folks.
- Katie (8/5): - Recommend for anyone who likes peace and quiet, with the stillness of nature.
- Julie (8/5): - The rooms were clean and tidy with very comfortable beds and plenty of room. Nice to have a kitchenette but would like a few cooking utensils. Beautiful surroundings and very relaxing atmosphere. The outside needs a bit of maintenance.
- Gavin (10/5): Relaxing short stay - Was a fantastic, relaxing short stay. Peaceful. There were many other people onsite and would not have known. Great wine, great service
- aayush (6/5): - The way they preserve the history of the place was awesome.
Saying that they should take care of the hygiene of the place.
Cockroaches were crawling and it looked like the place has not been cleaned since weeks.
Cockroach dropping were spotted on the kitchen top.
Bedsheet was sandy.
- Paul (10/5): - Beautiful grounds and surrounds.
- Expedition298091 (8/5): My husband and I enjoyed the experience - My husband and Just spent a lovely weekend away at Coolangatta Winery we stayed in the cottage on the Estate clean, lovely bed and everything you need The staff Liz and Dan were very welcoming to us and nothing was too much trouble we also enjoyed the wine tasting with Mitchell who spoilt us at the tasting session dinner was excellent we were served by Liam who was a complete delight.I would recommend it .Eleanor and Robert O'brien
- Wai Man (8/5): - Loved the old historical site like this. It’s charming and within a short drive to Berry. Will stay there again.
Stunning views from our cottage and the restaurant.
- Stepnen (8/5): - Old, but brightly renovated, and everything worked. Located in a picturesque area close to Berry and Shoulhaven Heads.
- manola (10/5): - The accommodation itself was not very comfortable, not very clean, the fridge was turned off at the power point and we didn’t know till the next day when nothing was getting cold. Aircon only in the bedroom and not downstairs where we spent most of our time. Very dark in our room.
- Will (10/5): - Great location, so close to the beach. Easy trip into berry. Enjoyed the clean room and was able to check in and out easily.
- Janine (10/5): - Beautiful surroundings and quiet location. Lovely historic buildings. Close to many areas of interest.
- Marcus (8/5): Great little place to stay. - Nicely refurbished room.
Lovely historic setting.
Comfortable.
Good price.
- Wayne (10/5): - Our cottage was lovely, dining and wine tasting excellent food
- Barbara (8/5): - Nice quite location close to golf course , Berry and the coast
- Anita (10/5): - The BEST BED, so comfortable ... value for your money
- Robert (8/5): - It is very unique. Like living in an old village. Very affordable and could have had three kids with us as there were family rooms
- Debbie (8/5): - Basic accomodation at an affordable price. Priced online with what you get. A few cleanliness issues and shower fan didn’t work but overall not bad. Quiet location
- Nicole (8/5): - The property was beautiful and the accommodation was unique and historic which we loved.
Rooms could have been a bit cleaner and a few more facilities provided like tea towel and champagne glasses.
Overall is was great.
- Maria (10/5): - The picturesque area, well looked after heritage buildings, great service from staff, good value for group/family travel
- Anita (8/5): Lovely location and interesting history - The accommodation is steeped in history which was interesting. The reception was friendly. The room was massive for just the 2 of us. It was a lovely location. Because the building is old there are gaps which can allow critters to enter good to know for those with a phobia.
- Lynette (8/5): - Beautiful area & very quiet
- Richard (8/5): - Great property
Beautiful grounds
Peaceful environment
- SENIALE (10/5): - excellent
- Ian (10/5): - Beautiful location, quiet and characterful .
- Christine (10/5): - The property is beautiful old historical buildings and vineyards surrounding it the negatives are the cobwebs in our room no hairdryer or shower caps provided but overall a lovely place to stay
- David (4/5): - The property is located in a good area. The room was nice except for the stench from the toilet shower area that was constant and unpleasant also unsatisfactory. The shower fitting was leaking.
- Carolina (10/5): - The winery its self was great and the grounds are beautiful. The cottage needs some upgrading and revamping more modern look. The outside needs repairing and chairs and table need some loving care a bit dusty with spiderwebs around.
- Jo (8/5): - The girl at frount desk was amazing,so friendly and helpful
- Lindsey (10/5): - Unique property, each room is different. Lovely location
- Jenetta (8/5): - We have been to this property ages ago. It was wonderful back then. We came back for the memory and short break. Well the office was closed and we only saw a person when we checked out. Oh and there was a friendly worker guy but it was as if we were not there. I certainly did not feel welcome. Very anonymous. The restaurant where we enjoyed a wonderful breakfast years ago was closed. Permanently. We were told we could get a 'breakfast pack'. No thanks. In the two days we stayed it was so empty and isolated. The bathroom ceiling had a 'skylight' makeshift from perspex. It fell in almost and my hubby had to get on a chair to lift it up to secure it. The chair itself, thank God it didn't collapse. No he is not a heavy guy. Heaps of dirt and bugs fell out of the ceiling when he put it back. The fan in the bathroom didn't work. It was a nice stay but its just getting so run down this property. The scenery is magnificent though. And it is comfortable sort of. But the wifi doesn't really work properly and drops out all the time so you got to keep logging in. It's relatively clean though apart from the above and would be a great place to stay if there were more people to chat with over a cuppa in a cafe or a breakfast or something. You got to drive like 10 minutes to find a bowling club and certainly no shops. Would be nice if it had a shop also to buy things. Like cake, coffee, chips, ice cream, snacks etc. This place could really be jumping if they became more people friendly.
- Susan (6/5): - The property location is peaceful and quiet. The rooms or cottages are a little rundown. We stayed for 3 nights. No towels changed. The first room we were given the fridge was very dirty. But to be fair we were quickly moved to another room. Overall it was a pleasant stay, the history of the estate is awesome. Would probably not stay again. Just didn’t suit my needs.
- Martin (6/5): - I really liked the historical buildings and beautiful landscape. However, the room had no good WiFi connection, no complimentary tea bags, no useful knife (only cheese knife), no proper ceiling light; and the only window could not be opened (stuck).
- Klaus (2/5): - Linen not clean no bins outside hooks back of bathroom door broken. TV is in dangerous place over sink. cut my head on TV. toilet leaks. not enough storage 4 a week. not a Queen Bed. not enough bench space. We would not recommend this place.
- Kerry (8/5): - Lovely quiet location, with interesting history. Accommodation could do with a bit of TLC . Beautiful grounds and view.
- Faysal (8/5): - Excellent
- Jon (10/5): - Stayed here overnight. Absolutely stunning property and restaurant. Super close to Berry and Shoalhaven.
- David (6/5): - It was very disappointing. The room smelt very musty, the carpet looked very old and the whole room is in need of replacement. Whilst “antique” furniture may be in keeping with the age of the property the furniture in our room was more than past its best.
There were cobwebs on the door and dead insects trapped in the window- which also needed cleaning.
The television is situated above the sink which makes viewing somewhat awkward.
- Bronwyn (10/5): - Very comfortable property to stay in and the staff are lovely.
- Sharon (8/5): - It is a beautiful property - the grounds are well kept and attractive and we appreciated the heritage buildings. The room was well equipped and the bed very comfortable. However, it was very musty and there were a lot of cobwebs within the room, and a few spiders. A thorough clean and dust and a good carpet deodoriser would help. There was no information in the room at all about facilities or anything, but we found out that the restaurant only opens on weekends. We drove into Nowra for food. We got a half price deal midweek which was great but would not want to pay full price for our experience and will probably not return.
- Lee (8/5): - X
- Jo (8/5): - I love the atmosphere,great views....so happy with my accommodation....loved it will be back
- Alicia (8/5): - Beautiful winery and location. Room was nice in the old stables building. However main light didn't work and no hair dryer in the room
- Kelly (10/5): - Was a lovely and quiet stay. I had a wedding not far from the estate and the location was so convenient. The views were so beautiful to wake up to. The bed was really comfortable too. Was a wonderful stay thankyou.
- Jo (8/5): - It was a great atmosphere
- Nicola (8/5): - Loved the historic buildings, rooms were very comfortable also bed was comfortable .
Its unfortunate that dining options were not available on weekdays.
- Jo (10/5): - Wonderful place to stay....great staff and friendly service
- Pumpkin20 (8/5): Quiet break away - A couples breakaway, the room or I should say rooms, as the kitchen area is seperate to the bedroom & obviously the bathroom. Th e kitchen had a dining table with 4 chairs, microwave, huge air fryer/oven, large fridge, toaster, kettle all the kitchen necessities. The bedroom a queen size bed ( comfortable) bed side tables on each side, reasonable sized tv ( wall mounted) 3 seater lounge, side tables, coffee table. Excellent reverse cycle air conditioning. Bathroom is large, although the hot water does take some time to come to temperature. The accommodation rooms, free standing cottages are rustic but clean & very comfortable, wake up in the morning to birdsong & no traffic or neighbour noise! Lovely outlook over the grapevines, the staff were very friendly & helpful.
- Shane (8/5): - Beds were a bit hard, but nice place!
- Lilieta (10/5): - Clean room and very quiet.
Very good place to rest and take a break.
- David (10/5): - Smooth after hours check in...an amzing history, beautiful location and spacious rooms. Cant wait to go back
- Denise (6/5): - Beautiful location. While I understand it is a historic property rooms were in need of maintenance. Sad and tired furnishings. Self checkin is a great idea but the property needs to provide better instructions and the self check in mechanism needs to work. Overpriced for basic accommodation.
- RAJESH (10/5): - Stayed for overnight .property is at peaceful place far from disturbances.lacked signage around the property, hard to find where the rooms were.need more lighting inside the property.we loved the place .reception was friendly too .restaurant bit pricey so had to source food from 15kms from the property.all amenities are 15kms away but understandable .will visit again if needed
- Deborah (8/5): - This property has a feeling of having escaped the traffic of the highway and travelled back in time. The grounds were delightful and the accommodation quaint. Staff were supportive.
- Robert (8/5): - We liked the heritage property and history of the buildings. The room we were in was large and had everything we needed. The only negative was the difficulty parking near Room 28 in the Servant Quarters. We are both over 70 years of age and didn't want to have to walk 50-100 metres to carry our luggage. The very small parking space was taken over by two trucks. Guests i presume.
- Tracey (10/5): - Staff were warm and welcoming
Facilities clean and tidy
Relaxing and comfortable
- Happyholidaymaker88 (2/5): Do not stay here - If zero was an option I would tick that. For $224 a night for a couple you do expect some basic level of comfort. This was in no way forthcoming at Coolangatta Estate. As we checked in another couple were complaining about their accommodation and subsequently left. We should have turned around then and asked for a refund. We were in the Plumber’s cottage. A musty smell greeted us when opening the door. The room lights didn’t work. The bed was uncomfortable. The bathroom and kitchen needed an update. There was a lot of traffic noise from the nearby road. We had prepaid online. Over dinner at a nice restaurant I tried to convince myself I could stay the night there but when we went back to the room I reaslised I couldn’t. We ended up leaving and finding a room at Quest in Nowra which was clean and quiet with a comfortable bed and had a good night’s sleep which I wouldn’t have had at Coolangatta Estate! The Estate didn’t even call to see what the problem was as we obviously didn’t stay the night. I assume it is a frequent occurrence.
- 307JodieS (8/5): Charming Stay - We booked the “Walk, wine and stay” package in a medium size room. We arrived early and was quickly checked into our room as it was ready by the friendly lady on reception.
We stayed in the servants quarters 27 which was spacious and comfortable. The building is 200 years old and obviously restored to keep its charm. The kitchenette had everything we needed to have basic meals with a microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster.
Our tour around the estate was with Bruno, who has worked at the estate for a long time. He was very knowledgeable and shared lots of interesting stories as we wandered the historic buildings and checked out some convict artifacts.
Our walk ended with a wine tasting and cheeseboard. The tasting was not rushed and the cheeseboard was very generous and delicious!!! After the tasting we selected our bottle of wine to take back to our room to enjoy at our leisure. Of course we also purchased plenty to take home.
Sadly the on site restaurant is not operating through the week (post Covid) so we had to venture out for dinner. Lots of options within a short drive. We decided upon Chinese but it is take away only (post Covid) so we grabbed some drinks and dessert before heading back to our accommodation.
The estate is 200 years old and full of history…. it is so much more than a winery. The old buildings give the accommodation lots of charm and character, although (clearly from other reviews) some people may just consider it old and rundown…. the history and original buildings are magnificent, internally the rooms are completely refurbished with comfortable amenities. Our room had 2 two seater lounges, dining table and 4 chairs, tv, basic kitchenette, outdoor table/chairs, queen bed with bathroom that had a good sized shower with plenty of hot water.
The highlight of our stay was the tour, it made our stay!! Learning about the convict settlement and history definitely added to the atmosphere and charm of Coolangatta Estate.
All in all a really lovely stay and we would definitely stay again.
- L6651TGtrishh (6/5): Nice Lunch - Came for lunch with my daughter. It’s a beautiful spot, gorgeous view from the restaurant, and a relaxed atmosphere inside with a piano player .
Main meal was delicious , but dessert was a letdown. It was a tasting platter , and quite a few elements tasted a bit stale . Probably why they were all served warm ( even the cheesecake) to compensate. A selection of cakes , but no cream or ice cream served with it. And when we asked for coffee , we’re very surprised to be told they don’t do coffee !
May have been a post Christmas, post Covid issue, but it was a bit disappointing. Wouldn’t stop me coming back, the staff and location were lovely , so hopefully just a bad day!
- Bradley (10/5): - Exceptional and helpful Staff at Reception...Great communication and beautiful location
- 108richelles (2/5): Do not visit - I stayed in Blacksmiths 17. The standard of the room was disappointing to say the least. One of the windows did not open. The sash of the window that did open was full of dirt and leaves. Basic cleaning should have removed these. The bathroom was too small to dress in. The toilet was broken, moved on the base and almost tipped me off when I was using it. The tiles around the toilet base were all broken. There were unrepaired holes in walls. I was not offered the option of purchasing the continental breakfast when booking so had to drive back into Nowra to a cafe. At nearly $200 a night room rate this standard was simply unacceptable.
- Nicole (8/5): - Room was lovely just what we needed for our little get away. Only down fall restaurant not open on the Friday night so we had to leave the premises to eat which we were hoping to stay there and enjoy the whole experience of restaurant, wine tasting and walking around the grounds. But having to go out we spent more time out of the winery, next time we will stay when the restaurant is open. Otherwise great little getaway beautiful spot. 😊
- Julie-Anne (8/5): - The check in system was confusing and no staff contactable on site. No wifi facilities. Rustic property but it needs modern communication tools.
- Nicole (6/5): - Did not have the friendliest reception upon check in. Was told abruptly that the key would be in lock box outside the door. Did not work! Receptionist seemed put out by our presence. Door to room was near impossible to open and shut. Had to use my foot. Bed positioning was in direct sunlight and curtin did no provided relief. Also upon asking what time restaurant was open was told had a wedding party so not open to guests. Had to drive to another venue.
- Trisha (8/5): - Liked that the information provided in the rooms gave a history of the land & buildings but was very disappointed that not all the lights worked in our room.
- Tony (10/5): - Great place for relaxing
- Trevor (8/5): - The cottage we stayed in was very close to a road, which was very noisey, including into the evening. There are other cottages further away, so keep that in mind when you book.
- Mark (8/5): Wine but no dine - Really nice check in with handy parking in a quiet location. Well appointed clean room right on the vineyard. Didn’t eat there as they had a set menu banquet on the weekend. Comfy bed even with the old fashioned over head light on the bed head. Nice staff pleasant views
- robert (6/5): - It was quiet and clean but very disappointing.
- debandmal (10/5): Awesome location, food, people and accomodation. Sample the wines too……well matched to the area. - Location, perfect, wines, perfection not to mention to food. Limited choices but done very very well. Accomodation clean neat tidy bed was super comfy. Breakfast and late checkout a bonus. Highly recommend that you take the time to visit.
- Nerrelle (8/5): Staying in a piece of history - After a horrible drive down, it was cold wet & dark. The self check in didn't work but Ben happily came out to give us a key, to get in & a quick tour of the property.
- Ian (2/5): - The place has been allowed to deteriorate badly with the room being substandard and primitive.
- John (4/5): 2 Star Wedding Venue - This is not a 4 star facility, it appears that there has been minimal maintenance in recent times. The AC had broken louvers which vibrated loudly making it useless, the TV worked for a maximum of 10 minutes, the front doors didn't lock properly and the back door couldn't be opened. The restaurant is only open Saturday nights and it appears that this is for the sole benefit of wedding parties. Staff are pretty thin on the ground although those we met in the winery were both friendly and efficient. Overall it was a very disappointing experience which we will not repeat.
- Noel (6/5): - Wine tasting was excellent. The host Mitchell had most impressive customer service.
Cottage was cute. No real service to accommodation. No dining at accomodation. Had to drive to locate dining.
- Mark (2/5): - the property is remote, unstaffed and unsafe. No physical or other security arrangements, especially at night.
I don't recommend anyone stay at this establishment, especially alone.
No apparent support on offer or available
- Lynne (8/5): - Nice old accommodation, the antique buildings looked good.
- Clive (8/5): Our stay at the estate. - No wi-fi, tv small to watch from bed, cobwebs, dust bed was good very comfortable general appearance of property very tired. Reception staff pleasant and helpful
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I stayed at the location due to a family members wedding. The property situated in " The stables" was unique but cosy. Its not somewhere i would occupy unless i went to another wedding.
- dazzafromoz (4/5): Rooms needs a makeover - Had booked and paid for a Queen suite online. Was put in a small musty room in the converted Stables. The room was very dated with a musty smell. The smoke detector was missing and was also greeted by a large lizard in the room. After complaining, I was offered a small rebate
- patricea641 (4/5): Wedding Reception and winery fabulous. Accommodation failure - Family gathered for wedding January 2022.
My room was rustic, the bedside tables weren’t level, so items slowly slid off, even a glass of water teetered dangerously.
The cleaners clearly had difficulty raising their arms to clean the window sill in bathroom, as dead insects and bugs had been there for some time.
The air conditioning wasn’t functioning in my son’s room. He wasn’t able to open the windows as they had been nailed shut. The first night of his stay, woke in a lather of perspiration in the early hours in a stuffy hot room.
The room next door to my son’s contained an impressive water feature. The unit’s air conditioning leaked just inside the door, so as you walked in, water dripped on you. Clearly this had been an issue for some time as the room smelled of mould and the carpet was sodden. This room had not been cleaned for some time, as the sheets had black hairs all over them. Both live and dead bugs found throughout the bathroom.
As there were no additional rooms, my son stayed in the spare bed in the room next to his, he slept next to the water feature, which brought on asthma he hadn’t suffered since childhood.
Elderly relatives found a blue tongue lizard hiding behind the toilet in their bathroom. Luckily plenty of family around to assist, but if they had been on there own, it was difficult to find accommodation staff to help.
By all means have a wedding at Coolangatta Estate where the food was lovely and staff attentive. However, the accommodation suffers from numerous major defects requiring immediate attention to bring the accommodation to an acceptable standard.
- 176lilianm (10/5): Wonderful Couples Experience - Celebrating our birthdays with this treat. Personalised walking tour of the estate and convict area, wine tasting, with a deli plate. Nothing rushed and we were able to aske questions about the heritage. Well worth the price.
- stevenh771 (2/5): There are better winery estates to go to then this one. Try Silos Estate. Very friendly staff & great selection of wine. - Customer Service was extremely poor and the owner despite telling him what wine testing we preferred, none of it was on his menu. When he was unhappy with myself pouring my drink into my sisters glass, the owner left us for a short time to go outside to get my driver for the group to come get us. Would only serve dry wines.. highly recommend Silos Estate if your in the area…
We were booked for one hour and we were all out within 20 minutes. Will not be returning to this place. Very disappointed not to mention the taste of the wine. Certainly not nice to my liking or my group.
- Graham (8/5): - A quiet and peaceful environment. The winery for lunch and dinner was great. Rooms not too soundproof though.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Possum friendly - The Servants Quarters were big but maybe not super efficient. Main bedroom large but windows couldn't be opened, air conditioning in lounge room so not really available to bedroom, very stifling and hot. Bedroom was upstairs and small bathroom downstairs 😒 unfortunately bedroom ceiling inundated with possums, so woken up at 4am every morning with noisy footsteps above us for ages.. quite a few cockroaches co-habiting as well.
- Emilie (2/5): Smelly Room with mould…. - We arrived and got to our room, open the door and it smelt like a animal had died in our room. We tried to open windows and then realised there was holes in the fly screen so we couldn’t open the windows or we would of had mosquitoes in our room. My partner then went to reception to see if we could change rooms. But there was no one there. My partner then went to get in the shower and there was mould all in the shower so he was unable to shower in it. Overall very disappointed in our stay and probably won’t be back.
- Brooke (6/5): Okay stay - Accomodation was okay. Stayed a few years back and it’s definitely not the same as last time. Room was very claustrophobic as there was 1 window I could open. Cobwebs in the room everywhere. Okay but not great
- Susanna (8/5): Idyllic location with lovely views - Idyllic location. Bolong road is close by however the road noise is not an issue with the doors and windows closed. A couple of friendly lizards shared the room with us. Except for the initial surprise (being city people unused to animals) we kept out of each others way. Bed is very comfortable.
- TravelBug210456 (4/5): Disappointing Experience - I had booked for Wine in the Garden for yesterday. Booked our table for 8 over the phone and was told in case of rain we would be “eating up in the restaurant”. They called to confirm our booking two days before our lunch and I was once again told that in the event of rain we would be “eating up in the restaurant” (as rain was predicted).
On arrival, it was raining, we were directed to sit at one of approx. 4 fold out picnic tables in an outside marquee while the large restaurant was empty. When I went back to speak to a staff member as to why we were not “ eating up in restaurant “ as I was advised TWICE in the last few days, I was given all sorts of pathetic excuses - we were a large group ( at which point I looked straight into the restaurant and could see they could most definitely accommodate tables of 8). When I pointed that out and questioned why we had to eat in an area resembling someone’s garage - while “the restaurant upstairs” remained empty I was told it was because we were an early booking and the later bookings would be seated in the restaurant. Both your staff members who spoke to me on the phone in previous days knew full well what time our booking was and still advised we would be “seated upstairs in restaurant” if it rained!!
Needless to say after driving 45 minutes to get there we got up and left.
Extremely poor operation - don’t tell customers one thing over the phone and then fail to deliver.
Won’t be back and won’t be recommending.

- Verified traveler (4/5): - Poor service, room lacked amenities eg. power points, cold downstairs, Bed uncomfortable and no accessible reading light. Dinner was ok but terrible service - we weren't allowed to sit down until we presented a room key as evidence of our accomodation!!!
