Guest Reviews
- Philip (8/5): Picturesque scenery - Best possible location. The Check-in staff were wonderful. The hotel is older and could use some remodeling. Food options are very limited and the grill staff are not the most polite or engaging. The views and the drive to get here outweigh the negatives.
- Mark (10/5): - Convenient for exploring the Cedar Grove area of park, beautiful on the river. Convenient having restaurant-good food! Was also nice having the market there with frozen food & microwave in the market to use. Air conditioning wonderful in room. Very basic room but perfect for exploring this beautiful area of park. Mist Falls trail at Roads End was awesome!
- Paul (6/5): - Food offerings were poor: limited (and ever-shrinking) options and mostly poor quality. My wife eats vegan and had almost no options at all. Even the choices for alcohol were few and low quality.
- John (8/5): - Great location
- John (10/5): - Room was clean, bed was comfy. Hot water for shower could be better. It was lukewarm at best. Nice market and small self order restaurant with sandwiches and salads. Food was delicious. Excellent WiFi. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Small lodge with around 20 rooms so that was nice. Right on Kings River. Views and trails close by and beautiful. As an fyi no gas stations close by so come with as full a tank as possible. Also if you have electric car no charging stations. We would definitely stay here again.
- Vince (10/5): - The location of Cedar Grove Lodge is wonderful. There is a market and restaurant. The food was great. Natural beauty is stunning! We’ll be back for more!
- Tom and Nancy (8/5): - Loved kings Canyon
- Joe (8/5): - An average hotel but the selling point is location. Would stay again.
- Diane (8/5): - Large area for outdoor seating along the river and on covered patios.
- Aadhithya (2/5): - The check-in time was not clearly mentioned anywhere. The automated voice message gives a check-in time based on Eastwrn Standard time and it was extremely confusing. We thought the last check-in was at 8 pm but it seemed to be at 5 pm. Terrible customer service
- Imelda (10/5): - It is within the national patk
- Guy (10/5): - Remote and quiet
- Kristina (10/5): Comfy and perfectly located NPS lodge - Yes, it’s dated, but the location could not be beat and the comfortable bed was most welcome at the end of a long day. There was unexpectedly both WiFi and AC (which was particularly welcome on a very hot day), and the market opened at 7, allowing my very well-rested self to grab a quick breakfast before checking out and hitting the trail early that morning. Would 100% stay here again.
- Benny Yi-Bing (10/5): - Best location!
- IRMA (10/5): - My husband and I were out “glamping”. The accommodations were really nice for our needs. Comfy and clean. The lounge chairs near the river were relaxing and charming.
- Katie (8/5): Nice Lodge in Kings Canyon - A small but nice lodge in Kings Canyon. Room was a decent size for our family of 4 although we didn't spend much time in it as we were either in the park or sat outside in the nice outdoor area. We paddled in the river and sat stargazing in the evenings. A good base for Kings Canyon & Sequoia NP. Staff were friendly. The shop was well stocked for snacks & drinks, plus we used the restaurant onsite too which was nice. Could have done with a Cedar Lodge signpost on the Cedar Village sign for on the way in.
- Amy (10/5): - old NP lodge in beautiful setting.
- Oliver (10/5): - Perfect location in the nature next to a river. Rooms are clean and comfortable.
- Roy (8/5): - It was so nice to stay in the park after a long day of sight-seeing. It would not have been good to drive back out for a place to stay. The room was basic (no TV) but clean. The shower was small like a cruise ship but had hot water and excellent pressure. No hair dryer. Location was great along the river. There were chairs by the river to sit and relax. Property also had a restaurant and market. Would definitely recommend.
- Ezequiel (10/5): Exellent. - Fast and easy Check in.
Exelente service.
- Greg (6/5): - Great location but you pay for the convenience.
- Thi Be (6/5): - No microwave and frige. Coffee maker not working and have no power at our first night. Commodities very basic!
- Ben (10/5): - I really loved my stay at this lodge. The rooms were nice enough but not fancy but the location was great. We did see a bear from the lodge which the rangers drove off. It had a great view next to the river.
- Carol (8/5): - One trash bin, ran out out tissue/low supply; good bagels for breakfast, really good coffee!
- Maria (10/5): - It was as a great place for an overnight. Lovely places to relax and enjoy the river without camping. It’s an isolated location, be flexible.
- rosalba (8/5): - Location is really nice!!
- Thuynga (10/5): - We couldn't ask for a better stay. Oceanfront location, we loved watching the sunrise, sunset from our room & taking long walks on the boardwalk along the ocean. The staffs were wonderful. Room is nicely renovated, clean, bed comfy. Good light breakfast was included & the choices were very adequately thoughtful. We walked over to The Sea Chest Oyster Bar nearby for dinner, fantastic food & services there too.
Hope to come back for another restful stay soon.
- Tine Christiane (10/5): - Great value for a low price, and super nicely located in the middle of Kings Canyon.
- Donald (10/5): - Simply awesone
- jocelyn (10/5): - The location is very good, quiet and with continental breakfast.it just need to be updated interior wise.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Book for its location only - Positives:
VERY close to Yosemite - it’s one of the closest hotels to the park (10 miles away) if you don’t camp or stay in Yosemite valley
Somewhat clean - my room was clean, but the bathroom had flies coming out of the sink
Parking - lots of parking available
Negatives:
Price - they charge very high rates for what is a two star hotel. They gouge because of proximity to the park
No real food options - you have to drive many miles to get food (or bring from the park). There is a small minimart on site for some basics. They is also a restaurant, but it also charges ridiculous prices due to lack of competition.
Terrible internet - this is my biggest criticism. Absolutely ridiculous for a hotel in 2025. The lady said that it’s not their fault. There are simply too many guests using bandwidth. Well, get more bandwidth!! Stop being so cheap. With your exorbitant rates, you can afford to buy better service. Basically, expect no internet or limited internet from 5-6pm onwards until the next morning (I left every day super early). On weekends when it’s more crowded, forget about it. Just awful.
- Kelley (8/5): - National park accommodations are not known for being “updated” so I didn’t expect that but overall the room looked fine.
I appreciated the hot shower with good water pressure and comfortable bedding, as well as the continental (convenience) breakfast. Although there was no elevator I so appreciated the ramp!
We also enjoyed relaxing and reading in the chairs placed by the river.
They were sticklers about the 4pm check in. I mean to the minute…which is a little ridiculous when you are out in the middle of nowhere.
- David (10/5): - Excellent location on the roaring Rapids River.
Great friendly staff, fantastic reasonably priced Café, delicious pulled pork with a bottle of wine on the river. Best to drive here in a sports type car, preferably convertible.
We had a wonderful stay!!! Thank you very much!!!
- Brian (8/5): - Plenty of self parking. Very close to a main road, so traffic noise is loud.
- Michele (8/5): - The hotel was as expected, a little outdated but still great option if staying in the park. Beautiful surrounding, friendly staff. Would be nice to have mini fridges in the room or at least an ice machine somewhere in the hotel. Gift shop has everything you might need including frozen food and microwave. Would definitely stay again.
- Ziv (8/5): - This is a National Park Lodge. It is very basic but the location is perfect if you wish to enjoy the park and get an early start on some hiking.
The room was basic but nice and clean, staff was friendly and food was decent.
- Meri (6/5): - The location along the river was beautiful and quiet. Wish the park service could spruce up the lodge and rooms some. These are not cheap rooms but looked like a tired motel. But location is splendid to enjoy the much quieter Kings Canyon NP.
- Josephine (10/5): - Lodge was comfortable included a store and grill very useful for buying last minute items and food.
- kyoungrim (2/5): Great location, Disappointing quality - The location of the property is great but everything else was rather disappointing. The washrooms were not clean, the kitchen was there but nothing was functioning properly. Frying pas were the worst kind, everything got stuck to the bottom even with lots of oil and low heat. Towels were yellow, and carpets felt stickly. There were no screens at balcony doors, either we had to live with bugs or not able to circulate air. I usually never complain about any property, but compared to the price of staying the service and facility is lacking.
- Michelle (8/5): - It was right in the heart of Kings Canyon National Park
- Barry (10/5): - Great rustic place to stay in the heart of the canyon - nice river frontage
- Thomas L Siekmann (8/5): - We enjoyed our stay at Cedar Grove. The river just outside the lodge was amazing. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms could use updating but the staff and the view were excellent. We would stay here again if we were in the area.
- derek (6/5): - Overall this worked out well for us but based upon the price the facilities and the rooms are very outdated. Location was great and they had a store and grill for food.
- Andy (8/5): - Older building, shower was tiny, location on river was beautiful. Restaurant served good food but limited choices. Convenience store was well stocked for a remote location. Friendly staff.
- Dolores (6/5): - Hotel very dated. Bare bones. Would have been nice to have a mini fridge and microwave in the room. Breakfast was bare bones. For the price (due to location) I would expect better. Only had cereal, mini muffins, small yogurts, no bagles, no toast. Juice in small plastic containers. Snack bar food was good, but overpriced. Ok hotel for amenities, excellent for location.
- James (8/5): - D
- Pamela (8/5): - The property was great for what it is, a big step above camping. The place was clean and the room was comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was a market with a good variety of food and gift items and camping items. There was a small take out restaurant with decent food. The roaring river by the hotel was spectacular and we enjoyed relaxing by ut daily!
- Sharla (10/5): - Great location, thankful for the snack bar that had great food options. I would recommend the place to friends. It’s old and you have to look beyond that I guess. The beds were comfortable and clean.
- Franklin (4/5): - Very remote older spartan property by the National parks service. White knuckle drive descending mountains with spectacular views. Had to pause drive as workers were dealing with forest fire. Room would have been nice in the 1920s. No TV Has a small food market and dining choices are at a snack bar. Great for outdoors people and those who would like to get away from it all. I they do have WiFi.
Bad choice by me.
- Lynnette (6/5): - The lodge is right next to a beautiful river. The staff was pleasant and courteous. The bed was comfortable. The food was pretty good at the sandwich shop. Those are the positives. Check-in is exactly at 4 pm. The desk is in the market area and is not staffed continuously. The lodge was built in the 70s and not updated since. Actual keys to get into the rooms. No TV in the rooms. No water pressure in the showers. Toilets don’t flush well. Bring alternative entertainment. There is WiFi tho. It just needs some serious updating!
- Joseph (10/5): - Great location. The burger and toasted cheese sandwiches that we ate in the snack bar were as good as any others we had in California. Price is high for the room but that is to be expected when staying in a NP and being surrounded by all the natural beauty. All the staff we met were very nice and helpful. Our room was clean and suited our needs.
- Ella M (10/5): - Great place to stay!
- xingyuan (10/5): - Room is clean. Location is good for visiting the park.
- Kathleen (8/5): - Takes longer to get there than we planned based on milage. It is in a valley with a long mountain drive in. Don’t get me wrong… it’s beautiful but you need to allow extra time
- Laura (8/5): Great place! - The location is amazing and I would highly recommend staying at this lodge. The lodge is rustic but perfect for the location. Love the lounge chairs by the rushing creek.
- Patrick (6/5): - It would have been nice to know it's at the bottom of the canyon. It takes 45 minutes to drive out to explore or see anything out of the canyon. 2 nights max for a stay unless you are hiking in bottom of canyon.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Nice stay along the river. Very Relaxing!
- mark (10/5): - The staff waa excellent, food was great also
- David (10/5): - Basic accommodations but it’s in a national park so that is as it should be
- Jodi (8/5): - Rustic place, lovely views and helpful friendly staff! Available food limited selection but very well prepared and tasty! Rooms comfortable but dated.
- Helen (10/5): - Loved the location and accessibility to hiking. Staff was great and the room basic but all we needed
- Teheiti (10/5): - Awesome place to spend the night in the park at the end of kings canyon drive.
If you like fishing make sure you got a rod and licence... I wish i knew first !
- Cynthia (10/5): - Quiet and beautiful. Would recommend.
- Shobhit (10/5): - Great lodge in Kings Canyon National Park.
- Rocio (10/5): - I live in the city and this is a quiet peaceful place to come and enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains and rivers
- MICHAEL (10/5): - Loved the location, serenity, beauty, no tv, no mobile phone, no internet, sound of nature, friendly people, perfect for a total re-boot from the rush of life, stunning drive in, wonderful river noise, just wonderful
- Cornelia (10/5): Kings Canyon - Nice, comfortable, uncomplicated. We arrived really late st night and the reception was long closed but the key and all needed information were ready for us.
- Michael (10/5): Location and scenery are incredible - Location and scenery are incredible! Creek runs right by it. Pine tree smell is a treat.
In between a camping and hotel experience, leaning more towards hotel. Friendly staff but not your typical hospitality industry workers. Old school room keys. Smaller showers.
Overall, really great!
- kevin (10/5): - Nice place
- Dave (8/5): - Quiet and remote
- Diane (10/5): - good
- Catherine (10/5): What a setting - This hotel is a drive, but so worth it. It is not the most modern, but stunning in its views along the river. Having a complimentary breakfast was a great start to the day. Dinner at the snack bar was really good. We enjoyed our stay. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
- Lisa (8/5): - We enjoyed our 2-night stay at the Cedar Grove Lodge. When staying here, keep in mind that you are staying in a National Park. The room has NO amenities. Zero. Not even a TV or reliable Wifi. You are paying for the convenience of being in the park and the absolutely beautiful surroundings. They do offer continental breakfast and there is a market on site that is open from 7am until 9 pm to buy snacks, etc. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- Dalia (8/5): Clean comfortable beds - So many great things about this place, then some not-so great. First of all, the staff was always helpful. The complimentary coffee and muffins were nice. The location itself deserves a 5-star rating. The beds were super clean and comfortable. The other facilities in the (standard) room not so much. The rooms are dated, for sure, but clean. After tent camping for several days, I was looking forward to a real shower. A downer was that shower was either scalding hot or snow-melt cold. I mentioned it to the gentleman at the front. He said, I needed to play with it a bit. So I did, but being in a drought, I didn't want to mess with it too much. So cold shower it was. There was NO coffee pot as stated in the description and in pictures, certainly no phone either. The door handle to get into the building that lead to the standard rooms was really finnicky and would "stick". After several attempts, I got in. I won't even bother mentioning the wi-fi, I expected it to be spotty, it was. It was better IN the room (after 9:00) vs. the balcony. Plus, I was out there to enjoy the surroundings. I get it, it's an old facility. But they also close down for about 6 months a year (after season is over). So with that time, couldn't upgrades/repairs be made to the rooms/building? Again, the location is top-notch. For that alone, I would return.
- Laura (8/5): - The location is perfect that it is in the park and it’s nice to wake up on the river. The room is meh and really nothing special. It is a very basic motel room and could def could use an update but it provided what we needed for stay and beds were comfy. Other reviews said this so I knew what I was getting into which was helpful. Staff were extra nice and friendly and it was really great having food right there after a long day of activities. Food places closes at 8 and market at 9. Also a general market with stuff needed for the day which we used in am for ice, water, snacks etc. Enjoyed free coffee and continental breakfast in am. Overall it was great for a one night stay in the park and would stay again.
- Katie (2/5): - The place is understaffed and it shows
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cute lodge for romantic getaway - It was a cute lodge. Perfect to get some rest after our long drive and prepare for 4 nights of camping
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing place to stay! We flew in from Ohio so being able to stay in the park but not camp was incredibly convenient. Easy access to a ton of great trails and sights. Staff was attentive and quick to address all concerns. Food was excellent. Prices in the gift shop are incredibly reasonable and a great variety of goods available. Really enjoyed all the outdoor seating and river views. This place is older but well kept and simply can’t be beat. A true gem. Would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A nice, quiet place to stay in King’s Canyon. They have wifi in name only; it is not functional for more than a Wikipedia search. Basic amenities provided, and a surprisingly good restaurant is based beneath.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location, but very twisty road . Get there before dark.
- Madhu (8/5): Ok-ok place for a night stay! - Hotel is in a great location but the room is small, cramped shower area and old building
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location and setting. We didn’t have time to stay longer because of the weather.
- P (8/5): - The setting, right beside the Kings river, is beautiful, especially in spring.
- Emma (6/5): Great alternative to camping - The hotel is at the bottom of Kings Canyon. The drive down there has incredible views and the nature surrounding the hotel is amazing.
The hotel itself needs some renovations, it doesn't seem like it has been touched since the 1970's. It is clean and well kept though.
Staff was nice and friendly, food was good.
It's a great option for staying in the middle of nature without having to camp.
- Phoenix (8/5): - Perfect, serene location next to river with chairs nearby to enjoy. Grill and gift shop on premises with reasonable prices. Comfortable beds in clean room. Not an issue for me but didn’t realize there is no TV or refrigerator and although there is wifi, it isn’t very good. I enjoyed the escape from technology but others may not. The lodge does keep outside lights on but I would have preferred them turned off or down in order to really enjoy the dark sky of stars.
- Diane (8/5): - Beautiful setting by the river. Great staff.
- Verified traveler (2/5): shithole in paradise - This lodge was absolutely the worst dump I have ever had the displeasure of having to stay in. The other hotels in the park are a much, much better choice. It was smelly, dirty, had no refrigerator, no toiletries, no hair dryer, and no microwave. I will never go back to this establishment and certainly don’t recommend it.
- Travellingirl77 (10/5): Great location with a river running next to it. - The is a river running next to the lodge. You can hear it from your room. Perfect place to take your breakfast in the morning. The staff are all very friendly and they grass fed beef burger is pretty good too.
You would want to arrive at this place before it gets dark as the road to it is pretty winding road but it’s woth the drive.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Warm and welcoming staff. Clean room and excellent food.
A comfortable and welcoming place for a walker to lay their head and reinvigorate for a new day.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - No television. Poor Internet service. Food service lacking foods on the menu.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We love it. In a middle of the nature and almost on the river.
- martin (6/5): Unclean - The cleaners do the very minimum of cleaning. I was only drawn to this the first time I put my shoes on. There was so much dust and rubbish under the beds it was appalling. Then as you look closer you notice no dusting of lamp shades etc, sinks/baths not cleaned when room is “made up”.
The one positive I have is the location, you can’t get any deeper into the Canyon than this hotel.
- Mark (6/5): Location amazing, lodge was basic but sound - We stayed 1 night, accommodation was basic but OK after all you are deep deep in the woods, location us beautiful right alongside the river. A joining room had a noisy US family with a child who got up @ 6 am & proceeded to talk loudly non stop until 8 when they gave us a break & went for breakfast + the sweet daughter screamed, cried & shouted. But that's folks for you & not the fault of the lodge, you gotta blame their parents!! Enjoy
- Verified traveler (6/5): Basic Room - We went with low expectations and were pleased that it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. You are choosing location with this lodge. There really aren't any other lodges for hours around. It was nominally clean & average size. There were no mini refrigerators in the rooms which is hard when you are traveling out of a cooler. They ran out of ice and weren't getting anymore until Tuesday (it was only Saturday). The staff are pleasant but don't expect much and you will be fine!
- N (6/5): Banging Door - Cedar Grove is a basic lodge with no frills. We stayed 2 nights. Unfortunately we had a room directly above the staff entrance and from 7am until 10pm there was a continuing banging of the door. We did eat at the snack bar there both nights but choice limited. We had cheeseburgers both nights which were fine, we only had breakfast once as the pancakes we had on our first morning were cold, I expect they were forgotten as we had to wait ages for the. The second morning we just got coffee and muffins from the shop. There is a laundry nearby which was useful when we eventually got a machine.
- Arlene (8/5): Cedar Grove Lodge - Area is absolutely wonderful. Hotel was comfortable but pray you are not allocated room 1 as the outside door bags - like a bomb going off- every time someone comes in or out early morning or evening. Food was also disappointing unless you always want a burger. Lavin was a real star, helpful and always remembered my name.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Before the review I would like to mentioned: we visited Kings Canyon in the low season in a week before roads closures. I cannot guarantee the same experience in the high season.
First what came in mind is a great location. Hotel is standing on the bank of South Fork of Kings river. So you'll get nice sound of roaring river. Fall is really awesome in that place, all that gold color, pleasant temperatures and no crowds.
They have decent snack bar. I cannot say that the dishes were very healthy (too fat as for me) but they were made in a short time and were okay. Also we got free tea and coffee. The snack bar is the place were you could get your breakfast. Short stack of pancakes tasted great.
The hotel staff are the most friendliest people we ever met.
The room was ok. We had the room with two queen beds. It had A/C though we didn't use it. No coffee maker, no fridge, no TV: but that was okay for such remote place. Room had small bathroom with the tiny shower cabin. Men had problems to fit in it.
What was not okay is their WiFi. As there no cell phone connection WiFi is a must to send a note to the family. The hotel has WiFi but the quality of it is very very very bad.
- Susan (4/5): Off the grid - If you want to be off the grid this is the place for you. Also know that the only food is a snack bar that heats up preptepared food that gets tiresome after one meal. There is a small market on site but mostly for snacks for hiking.
- Donald (6/5): - Beautiful location fit in perfectly with our itenirary, but on the spartan side. Service at the cafeteria was rediculously slow.
- Scott (8/5): Cedar Grove - The stay was what myself and my girl wanted. The rooms were great and if they renovate there should be no change to the design of the rooms. Any type of T.V.'s would ruin the experience. But the wifi was there but nonexistent. This needs to be fixed or removed. I wanted to play music for dinner both nights but the wifi was awful so that didn't happen. But everything else was amazing.
