• SeattleMember88 (2/5): Unwashed Sheets and Condoms from Last Guests - Stayed here when touring Wesleyan. Our room seemed fine when we first arrived. But at bedtime, things really took a turn. Pulled out the sofa bed and found condoms. They were still packaged thankfully, but not what I want to see when I’m setting up a bed for my kid. Was initially willing to throw away the condoms and look past that but then pulled back the sheets on the main bed and right away noticed some hairs on the sheets. Pulled them back further and discovered very obviously dirty sheets (stains appeared to be consistent with the condom discovery). I travel a lot and I’ve heard about hotels not changing the sheets between guests but to my knowledge I’ve never actually encountered it until now. Called the front desk and they were appropriately horrified and suggested I come down and get new keys for another room on our floor. I explained I was already in my pajamas and asked if they could come up as I didn’t want to go to the lobby in my pajamas. They did do that, which I appreciated. New room seemed ok at first. But again, a closer look showed that this room also was not clean. Pulled out sofa bed and found TV remote was in the sofa bed, which didn’t make me confident that the sheets on the sofa bed had been changed recently since if they had changed them they presumably wouldn’t have left the remote in the bed. Someone’s old contact lenses on floor by the bed. Layer of dust on base of bedside lamp. Some hairs in shower. It was really late by that point so I didn’t feel like we could leave immediately but we decided to check out early and just stay the one night. Front desk confirmed there wouldn’t be a penalty for early checkout, which I appreciated. Next morning in better lighting I noticed what appear to be a few small bloodstains on my sheets near leg area. I didn’t have any cuts. I could not wait to leave and take a shower at our next hotel as I’ve never felt so gross after a hotel stay. Manager did reach out and offered to comp our stay and give us an additional free night, so they at least appeared to recognize that our experience was not ok. I didn’t want the free night as I would never return but did want a refund. However, he said they were mailing me a check and they didn’t. I emailed to follow up. No response. Never got the promised refund. So I paid hundreds of dollars for filthy rooms, unwashed sheets, and cleaning up prior guests’ condoms. Strongly do not recommend this hotel unless you want to sleep in the last guests’ bodily fluids.

• bjag2010 (2/5): Negative and dishonest experience with front desk booking via phone - I didn't stay at the hotel myself, I'm not impressed with the front desk associate who I will not name. I suggested to my 81 year mother to stay at the hotel with me. Since she doesn't always feel comfortable doing things online, she called the hotel. The person at the desk told her that the room would cost the amount it would be and that she should give him her credit card info. What he didn't tell her is that they have 5 rate options, two of which are non-refundable and she had to pay the full amount there and then. What he also left out was that they have price options that are refundable up to 48 hours in advance of the date of stay. And that with that option she would pay one night stay ahead of time. The next day, she decided she would stay at my sister's house instead of the hotel, so she called to cancel. She was told that they would not refund her because it's their policy. After a few phone calls and my sister taking over the calls, and getting American Express involved, the parent company in Florida finally agreed to refund her the money. Not only is she 81, but she doesn't have a full voice due to medical complications. I am beyond disgusted and will never stay at this hotel. Please be sure if you have family who calls the hotel, make sure they go over all options before paying with their credit card.

• MarbleheadCooper (6/5): If you are allergic to dogs and cats, do not stay here! - This hotel has always been a favorite of mine, and I've looked forward to staying there whenever I've visited family in the area, but I was really disappointed this past weekend. The hotel has become "pet friendly". Now, that may be good news to some people, but I' m allergic to dogs and cats, and when I asked at the desk whether certain rooms were kept pet free, I was told no, that pet friendly meant any room. I, in fact, did not experience terrible allergies but was kept awake by a barking dog, not the whole night, but at 11:00 p.m. and again at 5 a.m. I'm giving 3 stars for reasons of nostalgia, but I'm really disappointed in this change.
• Fearless783139 (8/5): Good Location, Mixed Execution - One-night stay while touring Wesleyan. The location is the strong suit as it walkable to a good stretch of restaurants on Main Street. The room was adequate but showed some wear. The blackout shade had a broken pull chain, so raising it manually was the only option. Beds adequate. No water in the rooms, though bottles are available for purchase in the lobby. Complimentary coffee, tea, and cookies in the lobby is a nice touch. Parking is a bit of a puzzle. They send a map in advance and hand one out at check-in, but it still takes some figuring out. The front desk experience was underwhelming; not unfriendly, but indifferent in a way that sets the wrong tone. Pricing feels fair for the area, though not a bargain. Bottom line: A functional, well-located option if you're visiting Wesleyan or passing

• allisontS3090TW (6/5): Great location. - Look, this is probably a pretty decent hotel when you are not relegated to a basement room next to the parking lot with peeling wallpaper, torn curtains and shade pulls that were pulled out of the wall. But I could just be high on the pool chlorine that permeates this floor. I'm sure the rooms higher up were very nice. You might even see a hotel staff member once in a while! There are quite a few restaurants in close proximity and that's lucky for since the hotel restaurant has very brief serving times. The staff we did see were very pleasant and accommodating otherwise. Not bad, but could be so much better.
• Dawn (10/5): Who knew such a nice place was in Middletown? - I don’t know where to start. The outside of the building was amazing. The entrance was gorgeous the little restaurant were beautiful. Colors and decor are gorgeous. Room was beautiful. Blackout shade in room. Quiet, even though we were up against the parking lot. This is going to sound silly, but the toilet paper holder was a little far back, making it awkward to reach, especially in the dark. 🥹

• HollyADavis (10/5): Beautiful Hotel with a fabulous staff - Fabulous hotel and the friendliest staff. From Kayla at the front desk, to Shauna in the restaurant and Nila in house keeping you couldn’t ask for better customer service. The food in the restaurant is quality and reasonably priced. The rooms are nicely decorated, clean and very comfortable. Overall, it’s a beautiful place to stay. We will only stay at the Inn during our future visits.

• karenjP9019UU (10/5): This place was very nice surprise! - I chose this place because of the dog policy. I didn’t expect the room to be so clean and comfortable! The hotel itself is great! Cute, quiet, and excellent staff. The location is great! Close to my family, and downtown Middletown has so many great shops and restaurants. The hotel put coffee, hot chocolate, and HOT CIDER out in the lobby! There is a cozy fireplace and chairs in the lobby too, and everything was decorated for Christmas. They even left us a little gift on Christmas morning, and loaned me scissors so I could finish wrapping some last minute gifts! Definitely coming back!
• 811maryfrancesa (10/5): Pleasant Stay - We came here with another couple for a 3 night stay to tour the Christmas Movie trail in the area. The Inn was clean, quiet, and any staff we came in contact with were very pleasant (a plus!) and very helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean with no adverse odors. (And I am a “Mrs. Clean” and do not tolerate a dirty hotel, so a big thank you to Marisol, our room’s housekeeper.) I loved the soap & lotion dispenser on the wall near the bathroom sink, so no messy bar soaps to deal with. There were also body wash, shampoo and conditioner dispensers in the shower. I wish more hotels would do this. None of us used the pool or fitness room so I cannot comment on that. The hot coffee, including decaf (thank you!) was a nice touch in the lobby every morning as well as hot cider or chocolate available 24/7. There was only cream available but I would have liked to have had a non-dairy option like shelf-stable non-dairy creamers perhaps for us vegan/non-dairy guests. There were no microwaves in our rooms but there was one in the sundries area of the lobby if you need one. The onsite Tavern was clean, nicely decorated, had very good food and I appreciated the vegan burger option! A shout out to Darcy who graciously waited on us there each night. There were plenty of other dining options within a short 1-3 block walk, or Mondo Pizza right next door, but be prepared to wait for a table because they are a popular spot. (But worth the wait, their NY style pizza was very good and I am from New York!) Parking is around the corner at the back of the hotel. We did not have an issue with parking and always found a spot. There is valet parking if you need it. (You just have to ask inside at the front desk.) We felt safe throughout our stay, and I would definitely recommend this Inn and would stay here again.

Since he didn't bother to reply, I thought I'd share it here. Hello Mr. Walsh, Our check-in was an easy and pleasant experience. We were a little early and other guests who arrived the next day for a 2PM wedding were also accommodated with early check-in, which was appreciated. Upon entering our room, my wife and I noticed a very musty smell. The best we both could describe it was like the smell of a wet dog. We wondered if previous guests had brought a dog in there and when the carpet was vacuumed it just brought up the odor. On our second night there, we didn't notice the odor. In a related comment, some people like me are allergic to dogs, so maybe only certain rooms should be designated for pets if they are allowed. Our housekeeper (Daniela) did a nice job re-making our room while we were at the wedding. My son and I used the hot tub and found the pool area to be clean and well maintained. Our biggest complaints had to do with the special requests and accommodations that your hotel had agreed to provide for the wedding party. The father of the groom had arranged well in advance for an after-party since the wedding was ending at 8 pm. The Tavern at the Armory was assigned to us at 8:30 pm. We had to borrow a portable speaker for music, brought our own lights and decorations and attempted to have a fun, PRIVATE party. Non-wedding guests wandered in and were served by the bartender, Darcy, right away, while she ignored wedding guests who were trying to get her attention to order drinks. And as the father of the bride, It must have taken me an hour to get a drink and that was only because another wedding guest walked around the bar and ordered a drink for me near the door where Darcy focused her attention, when not looking at her phone. The light snacks that we were supposed to get were a couple of bags of microwave popcorn and a few crackers and pieces of cheese. It was a big letdown. One overwhelmed bartender with a bad attitude was not enough for our wedding party and other random hotel guests. The next arrangement that the groom's father had generously arranged for the wedding guests who stayed at your hotel was the breakfast. We had a nice private function room upstairs and the coffee was great. The food was some of the worst breakfast food I have ever had. I didn't have any of the pastries put out by your staff, but the scrambled eggs were cold and I stopped eating them when I discovered what looked like bluish-green mold on them. The potatoes were cold and mushy. All of the hot food in the buffet line must have been cooked days before and re-served. This bacon was not crunchy, soggy, warm, or any other characteristic of freshly cooked bacon, but rather cold dried out and tough like beef jerky. I was able to get one strip down and just gave up on trying to eat the other one that I took. Maybe I was the only one who cared or noticed the quality of this food, but I wanted you to know what it was like. These are my honest thoughts on our experience.

• Mary0312 (10/5): Inn at Middletown - comfort in New England - great staff - The Inn at Middletown is a wonderful mix of New England Inn and clean, very comfortable accommodations. Beds are cozy, bath linens nice quality, & rooms reliably fitted with all modern conveniences. But it is the staff of the Inn that make it a gem of a stay - Mason, the inn's manager, is one of the nicest, most professional hosts a person could ask for. He is patient, welcoming, efficient, and does everything he can to make guests feel comfortable & welcomed. A true professional. Mason is a tribute to how special a place the Inn at Middletown is.

• U4440RCtonim (6/5): Nit worthy of price - Parking very limited, valet never at stand, told we could park at a local movie theatre which was a couple blocks away with many bags and kids , not convenient. There is no safe in room, when I asked the late afternoon desk clerk she said “No, of course there is no safe in room” The desk clerk who checked us in at 2:30 was friendly, courteous and helpful, as was the gentleman who seemed to be head of maintenance. On Sunday, my niece tried to eat breakfast in restaurant and the hostess was very rude and spoke pretty harshly to her. We had to go to a restaurant down the street. Small details like a sleeve for hot coffee cups missing, although the first morning there was no coffee and I had to go to a shop down the street.

It was really hard to connect with the hotel via phone - took numerous phone calls. The hotel does not seem staffed appropriately as the front desk person was doing multiple things and often was not at desk or able to answer calls. An answering service is needed.
• Rebecca (3/5): This was a complete rip off. Not as nice at all as in pictures. I would never stay here again. - The bed was comfortable. Our comforters had stains on them. Our air conditioner was "old," we were told and was really loud. For $400 per night, I feel very ripped off.

Id stay again if ever in Middletown!

• U9227FYlauraf (10/5): Ricky - The facade of the building is beautiful! The welcome from Ricky at the front desk is what made our stay awesome. Extremely pleasant man. I called him the hardest working man in show business! Thank for the stay Ricky!
• Gary (6/5): Overpriced for the experience - Front desk personnel were very nice, Valet parking sign in front however no valet parking and of course no where to park. Ice machine on the 5th floor not working. Not terrible but for the price not great
• U7157XAmarvins (6/5): Good but had check in issues - It’s a perfectly nice hotel and the staff is helpful, but we were quite frustrated that we weren’t able to check in on time. It’s one thing to not be able to check in early (though I think if you request an early check in a week early, it should be taken more seriously), but quite another to not have the room ready at the agreed-upon time. There were two or three weddings this weekend where the guests were residing at the hotel. We were going to one the day we checked in (which they knew — we were in the system through the room block code) and we were nearly late to the ceremony because we weren’t able to get checked in on time despite arriving early, nor did there seem to be any urgency on our behalf. I don’t blame the cleaning crew whatsoever — I know they were understaffed — and understand the staff was trying their best with what they had. Management should have been prepared for that clearly busy weekend and prioritized wedding block rooms. I have never had an issue with checking in on time before at ANY other hotel, Airbnb, etc. Again, I empathize with everyone working there, but it felt very unprofessional and future guests should be forewarned that this could be a problem.

• Richard (2/5): - Outrageously over priced (almost $700/night) with no staff. Would never stay here again and would never recommend it anyone. In fact would advise people to avoid it.
• Elizabeth (6/5): - The Inn at Middletown is the only option in town and they price accordingly. The hotel is mostly clean and well run, but not a $400-$500 a night property. Parking in back takes you through an alley where the dumpsters are located, which doesn’t feel safe at night. The rooms and common areas feel more like a Hilton or other chain. They also add a $23 a night property fee that they say is for amenities. When I asked what the amenities were, they said cookies and coffee in the lobby. Staff are friendly and helpful and it is super convenient to Wesleyan.

• 163kristend (6/5): Clean but dated - Rooms were very clean, somewhat dated. It was quiet enough. Not a lot of staff around but the ones that are there are very helpful. Overall a fine hotel, nothing fancy but good for a night or 2.

• Yanna (8/5): It was a pleasant stay and I would stay with the hotel again if I visit the town again. - The hotel has decent room size. The staff are friendly and willing to help. It locates conveniently on the main street of the twon and provides a free parking lot at the backyard. Due to the time difference btw east coast and west coast, we woke up late and missed the breakfast time of the hotel. The staff recommended us a nice breakfast place near the hotel and allowed a late check-out until we were done with our breakfast. It is quite a walking from the parking lot to the main entrance of the hotel, especially when you have to carry luggages. I would suggest to drop by our lugguages at the main entrance and then drive to the parking lot to park. Also, the AC sounds a little bit loud in the night.
• TransATL (6/5): Look for better options - We stayed one night as part of a longer road trip. Check in was smooth and friendly. My review: - parking. Not good. Too far from the hotel down a side street. It also looked a tad sketchy but my car was not broken into. So it worked out okay but not my preference. - room. For some reason we were given a “lower level” room when the hotel did not seem full at all. I saw another review mention the same thing so clearly mgmt makes this a regular practice. The lower level is a bit musty and smells of chlorine from the pool. The room was okay but could have been cleaned better. Food. Breakfast was *not* included so we went to a diner down the street Value. Hmm… given the parking, the lack of included breakfast and the overall medium-level experience I probably could have saved $50-$100 by booking a chain hotel near the interstate. Overall— it was okay stay but I would not return unless I had no other good options.

• Michael (4/5): - Based on the high price, we were looking forward to staying in the lap of luxury. It was anything but. Upon entering the building we immediately noticed a strong odor of mildew. On first glance, our room was lovely and spacious with a nice bathroom. However, it lacked many of the amenities that we have found in lower priced hotels; there was no shower cap, no makeup mirror, no pen and no safe. The mattresses were also a bit worn and disappointing. We chose this hotel for its proximity to an event that we were attending. Next time we will travel a little farther to stay in a chain hotel that is more dependable.

• Todd (8/5): - We enjoyed our first visit at the Inn. We were in the area to watch the golf tournament in Cromwell. The staff were very friendly and helpful whenever we had a question. After returning from the tournament we enjoyed a nice beverage in the bar area. Although we thought that the menu options for the restaurant were a bit limited so we chose another restaurant to have dinner.

• lisalR8521BP (10/5): Recommend!! - My family and I stayed here for a wedding. The Inn offered an adjusted rate for wedding guests, which was nice. The hotel was clean, conveniently located & there are shops/amenities nearby if you're looking to get something outside the facility. The restaurant/bar are nice & the food is good. The staff is wonderful! Kayla & Ricky were friendly, knowledgeable and super accommodating. They helped procure an early check-in after a long drive & a high floor room to address my pet allergy. (The Inn is pet friendly). They also had great suggestions for local eateries & coffee shops. A nice place to stay.

• Joseph (9/5): Convenient and comfortable - The Inn at Middletown is an excellent place to stay. Certainly, there is "old world charm", and it doesn't stop there. The facilities are in excellent condition. The staff is all friendly (a special call-out to Lisa in the Tavern). I didn't use the pool this trip, but I will next (already booked). And the location is superb; within easy walking distance to dozens of restaurants. Nothing noteworthy... Parking could be a bit better (more convenient or obvious).

The bathroom has mold in it, and the elevators aren’t clean… but what did make this stay better was the restaurant, and more specifically, the bar at the restaurant. The bartender was absolutely amazing and erased all the average and bad feelings away. She was friendly and chatting it up with all the guests at the bar. It was just some guests at the hotel and her alone handling the service of the restaurant. Two thumbs up for the bartender. She made it all worthwhile- and I think all the guests would agree!
• ellenmO6965GN (10/5): A Gem in the Heart of Middletown! - I and support members of our team had a wonderful stay at The Inn at Middletown. From the moment I established our reservations with Mason & Kayla, the front desk clerks, nighttime clerk- Ricky, and housekeeping, were all welcoming and helpful. A platter of warm cookies welcomes guests at the front desk. Ricky advised me on the Inn’s offerings and adjacent tavern. Parking and access were a breeze. The historic charm of the building combined with modern comforts made for a truly relaxing experience. Rooms were spotless, comfortable with all the accoutrements (toiletries, iron/board, shoeshine buffer, hair dryer,) and beautifully decorated. I never needed to be concerned over accommodations for my accompanying guests and knew with confidence that they were all comfortable and having a positive experience. The location is perfect—right in the center of town, within walking distance to great restaurants, shops, Wesleyan University and town civic support buildings. Middletown Police is a block away which traditionally lends to an area being safe. (It is always comforting to know that one is surrounded by safely monitored environs as a first-time visitor to any city or town.) I was impressed with the multiple monuments as I drove into town recognizing America’s Veterans. The town has great respect for those who have supported America’s freedom. Thank you, Veterans! The on-site restaurant, bar and tavern hostess – Lisa, were all fantastic —delicious food and a warm, inviting atmosphere. And the inn offers a well-equipped gym, indoor pool and hot tub. Our team was present for a business meeting. And a wedding party, and individual guests also appeared to be present during our stay. Whether one needs to be in Middletown for a large or smaller gathering, as a guest at the Inn at Middletown, none of the members of our small group nor I ever felt like “another number.” I highly recommend The Inn at Middletown should you need to visit the charming town of Middletown, Connecticut, for business, school visitation, pleasure, quick getaway, or any other reason.

• DanaL1673 (10/5): Fabulous Hospitality Upon Arrival! - Thank you Ricky for making the check in process so easy and making us feel so welcomed!! Our room was spacious and clean. We ventured down for Dinner at the Tavern at the Armory (off the hotel lobby). The menu was not overwhelmingly large and still had many enticing options that made it tough to choose. Each member of my family of four were so happy with our meals and drinks!
• Flyer677114 (10/5): Highly recommend👍👍👍 - We stayed Do you know it’s for her nephews wedding which was in Durham about 15 minutes away so it was very convenient to get to. We enjoyed walking the main street of big when we had a bit of downtime. The food was delicious. The bar was happen and lots of fun all the staff were exceptionally customer service oriented, pleasant and accommodating would definitely stay there again if we are in the area rooms were comfortable not overly done, with all the comforts of home.
