Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (2/5): - the parking area
- AKIRA (10/5): - ジョージタウンの中心部でとても行動しやすかった。
- Verified traveler (8/5): - All the staff including the owners were very nice and helpful. The room where I stayed had private bathroom with a hand held shower but no place to take shower.
The room can use some hangers as well.
- David (8/5): - This is value for the money you pay. We had a small room without a window but with our own bathroom.
Breakfast is basic, would have appreciated fresh cooked eggs not two hours cold. Also something other than cocoflake cereal, brown bread would be great as would some ketchup. The location is fine in the old town. The staff mostly sit and look at their phones but did help when asked.
- Michelle (8/5): Wonderful - Excellent location, comfortable beds, great staff but a little noisy. Shame the place is closing at the end of the month.
- William Teo (8/5): Affordable + Great Location - The rooms may not be the most comfortable amount other hotel. However with the price tag and nice location I will give a 8 out of 10 for overall experience.
- Shee (6/5): Wardrobe dusty - I book one family room. The room and toilet is quite clean. But the wardrobe is very dusty.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good price but a bit noisy outside. Breakfast is good, plenty of choices. Overall ok.
- Andrew michael (10/5): Clean and central! - Great little hostel. Just off chulia street. Lots of cool little bars/restaurants around. Close to most things, night food markets, little India, China town. Free breakfast is really good! Lots of Roti :) Clean too.
- HUANG, KUAN-HSUN (8/5): Kind staff, simple room, good breakfast - We stayed 3 nights here in room no. 2. The room is pretty basic but clean. There are patches on the wall, which is not a problem for us. The room is not acoustic-proof at all, which means you will hear guests talking in the next room and because our room is on the road side it's very very noisy. So i suggest you should avoid road-side rooms if possible. The shared bathrooms is very small, about 3 meter square, with toilet inside so there is limited space to take shower. The reason I still give them four stars is that the staff is really kind and helpful. They assisted us to book our ticket to Langkawi without charging extra fees (70rm/person), and gave us really helpful information on where and how to go. The location of the hotel is also good, most city attractions are within 1 mile. The breakfast was tasty. Plus, there are 2 very good restaurants just next to the hotel.
In short,
Pros:
1. Kind staff
2. Good location
3. Budget choice
4. Good breakfast
Cons:
1. Not sound-proof.
2. Small shared bathroom.
- Jestin (8/5): Great location - Very strategic location with variety food and place to visit near by the area. The only one thing that i dislike is the toilet, there are toilet bowl with the shower together. should separate both them categories for my opinion. i don't might pay a litter extra if they can separate the toilet bowl and the shower but i'm satisfied with overall service provided. reasonable price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Second time - Perfect place to stay if you want to be in the heart of Georgetown. The staff are very friendly and offer lots of good advice about what to do in the area. the room is simple but does the job. The only thing I would change are the shared bathrooms which are very basic.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Bad Luck, or not sure? - Being assigned to a store room modified room, which is poorly renovated, and just right beside the bath room and toilet, no ceiling, no windows. quite disappointed on it, as the photos show in Expedia is so beautiful, maybe i am not good luck, and get the worst room.
However, the breakfast is nice even thought not many options available.
- lana (8/5): Nice heritage hotel - Very nice and helpful staff, I really appreciated all their help they would even plan out our day for us a d how to get to places using the bus. The shared bathroom I got freak some out, but there's actually 5 of them and they're well maintained as the rooms are. It's a cosy nice place e wit a really delicious breakfast. However it's not a luxurious resort area like batu ferenngi. I would come back again if I e er go to penang.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Budget stay with a budget quality. - The hotel is a historic building with a restaurant on the first floor and rooms on the second. The rooms are relatively clean but small and the walls are thin (so it makes it awkward when other guests are being loud). The bathrooms are separate/shared so keep that in mind when booking. The location is pretty decent with a lot of restaurants, close to the ferry terminals, and near the historic section of the city. Overall, it is cheap and you get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Non crowded and value for money - Basic room with spacious area. Is slightly located away from busy tourist area, the location full with local business which is still operating.
- LY (6/5): Budget hotel in the heart of old Penang. - Looking for a hotel close to the local food, local people. Recommended to low budget traveller who do not mind public washrooms.
- Athina (10/5): Great Service! - Near to all food shops around Georgetown. The service is veryyy good! Staffs are very helpful, hospitable and kind. They will answer all your questions and gives alot of suggestions!!! They made our stay wonderful. I super enjoy the food in the morning and the cleanliness of the room is fantastic! Highly recommended!
- Stephanie (8/5): Clean and strategic place - Simple homestay but room very clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice n polite staff. various breakfast. Comfort bed. Jz bit noisy n can hear anything beside o outside d room.
- juanita (8/5): a great place to stay in Penang - Wonderful owner..also an accomplished musician, friendly and helpful staff. Thin walled rooms but fine if guests are mindful. Old Chinese area close to many interesting sites.
- John (8/5): Nice vacation ! 2015 - Good location,room clean & comfort, nice service ! I will come again soon !
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very Good - The hotel is very clean.
Staff is so hospitable.
The breakfast was wonderful.
--- The internet connection was bad.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Nothing like the picture. - The rooms looks nothing like the picture.
The reception or restaurant is next to the main road, but the room to sleep is a bit far away from the main road and behind the main street. The room was full of dust, broken furniture. Don't be deceived from the picture!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good stay - Good hotel in great location.
- Giz (6/5): Budget guesthouse in the middle of action - conveniently located. You can enjoy street venders right outside of this hotel. Lots of interesting places are within a walking distance or you can enjoy free city buses from near by stops. Accommodation is very basic. Just sleeping is ok. Staffs are helpful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice location but not going for second time - Other than the location and friendly staff, bathrooms are kinda disappointing. Will never go for shared bathroom hotel anymore, unless the bathroom and toilet bowl are separated. Bed are very noisy, room sound proof is very poor, as if when you turn your body, or cough or sneeze whole hotel can hear it.
- Hafizudin (8/5): it's was a good hotel - good and clean hotel
- Josie (10/5): Very Homey and Great Location... - Love love loved it! The room, the bathroom, the breakfast was really good, very homey. The location (at first difficult to find) was great, most of food, coffee, music place is all by walking distance.. the ONLY downside, it can be very noisy as early as 4.30am as the hotel/guesthouse is located in the middle of the morning market.
Will definately stay there again...soon.. :-)
- Andy (10/5): Superb budget accommodation!! Highly recommended.. - Perfect for a budget traveler like me.
Simple but clean bedroom.
Clean toilet. Clean lobby.
Clean Friendly & helpful staffs.
Good location.
- christina (10/5): Accomodating & worth place to stay !! - fantastic location! but some taxi quite difficult to get here, mostly mistaken the other other @ Armenian Street Heritage Hotel. Be ready for the petite size of the toilet sharing but its clean! Surronding area are awesome! next door just very famous chinese restaurant, and closed to Chulia food street at night & easy to find place to hangout at night!
Staff are helpful & very accomodate! We came for the Penang Bridge Int. Marathon & the prepared sandwich & water for us. Thank you for that :) overall this place is recommended and will stay here if coming back to georgetown again :)
- Verified traveler (6/5): Poor room, bed, wifi, good breakfast - It's an okay hostel. I booked a superior room thinking that it would have a window because of the picture and because, you know, hotel rooms, even hostel rooms, with the word "superior" in the room type ought to consider having a window to be the minimum standard. That's a pretty low bar.
Otherwise, the bed was rock-solid, not at all comfortable. Unless you really enjoy 80s cover bands do not stay here on a Sunday night, the sound comes right through the floor. Wifi was patchy.
Breakfast was relatively good compared to other hostels we have stayed in. Staff were friendly and helpful, except that they had filled in our paperwork wrongly and so we had to tussle over whether we had actually paid a key deposit and whether we would get it back, not what you want at 6am when you're leaving to catch a ferry.
- Uli (8/5): Good budget hotel in the center of Georgetown - The H16 is a decent budget guesthouse in the heart of Georgetown-Penang. It is in a highly walkable/safe location and staffed/managed by a friendly crew.
The room was a decent size but, unfortunately, it wasn't very well insulated for sound. We were woken up by children/guests running in the hallways every morning during our stay. The vibrations and sounds were enough to disrupt our sleep and many of the quiet times we hoped to spend in our room.
Additionally, wifi service in out room was inconsistent with a few instances of no service at all and the rest of the time being very slow.
That said, it is a very good budget guesthouse that can be recommended provided that you, as the traveler, know how to manage your expectations on the front end.
- Maya (10/5): Comfy and cute hotel! - At such reasonable price, so comfy u cn just live there! Very clean room and toilet. And they provide towels and breakfast too!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - great value for money and great location and nice people - thank you
- Fats (8/5): Perfect heritage building for what we were after - We were really excited to stay in a heritage building, and Heritage Sixteen didn't disappoint! The room was spacious, and tidy.
The biggest bonus was the breakfast...it was authentic market Malaysian food bought fresh each morning so we enjoyed a smorgasbord of fresh breakfast food every morning.
We stayed in a double room with shared bathroom.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and helped us find many interesting things in Penang! I would highly recommend Heritage Sixteen as a place to stay.
Stayed April 2014, travelled as a couple
- Adam (10/5): Great value for your money - Overall this place was perfect for three people staying one night on a smaller budget. The room was fairly small but not unreasonably so, the beds were comfortable, the air conditioning was more than sufficient, and the wifi worked well in common areas but only OK in rooms. The surrounding area seemed slightly sketchy at night but the location was great for bars, food, and generally getting around the city. The only real downside was probably that the bathrooms weren't quite up to "western" standards but they got the job done. Would recommend for the central location and bang for your buck!
- Rustami (8/5): Excellent Service - I stayed here 6 days and enjoyed excellent service provided by the staff. My room was cleaned when I requested. The first day I arrived I was shocked seeing a band playing guitars and drums but then I was told that only on weekends they play music and sing live :) I find the location good but for new comers it is always confusing, so grab one of those free maps the hotel has on their table. The neighborhood is a very good place with lots of street food available and walking distance to Komtar where you can take buses to all parts o the island :)
- Andrew (8/5): Better than expected breakfast - Enjoyed the stay and love to come back next time. Very affordable and very conveniently located
- Richard (8/5): Helpful staff. - Very helpful staff, I had forgotten where I had parked my car and they went out and located it for, came back then drove me to it.
- water (8/5): Quite nice... - The room is clean, but the lack of light in room, and no chair....the staff is nice, we checked in around 8am, and keep asking us to eat their breakfast (we should check in around 2pm, and no breakfast provided that day).... breakfast is simple, don't expect too much...
- Joel (8/5): Homey and Convenient - For the price point, Heritage Sixteen completely exceeded our expectations. Despite the small size of the room and the rather rustic bathroom situation, we absolutely enjoyed our stay. The owners/staff go above and beyond. After we checked out, they even gave us a ride to the ferry... amazing! The location is also excellent. In the heart of Georgetown, you have access to all the amenities and great restaurants and food carts.
- Steven (4/5): Wrong hotel location on hotels.com - Pros: Good breakfast with variety of dishes. Nice staff. Well decorated common area. Cons: Took half an hour to find the hotel as the map provided was wrong. No windows. Air conditioning not working well.
- Costanza (10/5): Great place to stay in Georgetown! - This was one of the nicest guest houses I stayed in while traveling in South East Asia! Both the facilities and the staff were great and you get excellent value for money. The place was clean and well maintained, freshly painted in welcoming colours. The rooms are nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. I had a room for myself but had to share toilet and shower. I was a bit worried when I saw there were only 8 wet toilets for everyone staying on my side of the building. However, sharing was not a problem at all. Toilets were kept super clean and I never had to wait to use it. Breakfast was amazing! This place offers a wide variety of local food and they will even take the time to explain you a little bit of every dish. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. They told me where to go, let me borrow a bike, took me to some really good hawker stalls and even got cendol for me so I could try it without struggling to find the right stall. Furthermore, its location is perfect to explore Georgetown. Overall, I would totally recommend this place!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good budget guesthouse in the heart of old town - Very clean guesthouse, great location in old town. I stayed in a room that had shared bath but the bathrooms are kept clean throughout the day. The room size is good.
The breakfast is fabulous with changes everyday and an effort to showcase traditional Malay food. The breakfast could use more fruit but the range of food choices is very good.
Wifi access in room is fast.
The owner Edward is super helpful with suggestions on where to eat and what to see and how to get around town as are the other staff members.
- Pia (6/5): Good hotel but noisy - Is a really good hotel clean and good location the only problem is from 5 am the street is getting too noisy and is possible to sleep even wearing ear plugs.
- John & Dale (10/5): Exceptionally clean and comfortable in Old Penang - We liked Heritage 16 and Penang so much, we stayed 2 extra nights after first 4 originally booked. Staff all very helpful and genuinely friendly. We had 2 rooms,: queen with private bath, and single without, but plenty of shared facilities available...never any waiting. Breakfasts tasty with local treats, fruit, and fried eggs. Taxi had difficulty finding Heritage 16...there are many hotels with similar names nearby. Noise from excellent restaurant below loud during day, but quiet after 10pm. Room rates and restaurant prices very good value.
- Lorrie (8/5): Clean room with window - As you might know it can be a struggle to find a windowed budget room in Georgetown. Room was spotless with nice touches like hanging rail and bedside light. Was initially given windowless room but was changed for no extra cost. Downside is windowed rooms don't have bathrooms. But the share bathrooms are clean with hot water. Friendly management, free wifi, great breakfast so very happy.
- weary traveller (8/5): decent budget place - Basic but OK budget room, friendly staff, convenient location.
