- Duangporn (7/5): - The house is Japanese tradition style in wood brought the nice atmosphere. The location is uphill quite far from the center.
- Ruxana (9/5): - Absolutely loved it.Calm and peaceful.Wonderful couple. The location is awesome, wish to spend few more days. Location is almost in the woods.Good to reach the place before it gets dark.

- Alfeli (7/5): -
- Rong Xuan (9/5): Lovely hostel - Value for money, owner are nice and place is clean. Free coffee and also there is onsen in the property which is free to use. You need to drive to get there as there is no buses around.
- Dana (10/5): - This was the best hostel I have ever stayed in. Very clean and very safe. Everyone was super nice and I really enjoyed the stay. Also, they had a free morning shuttle down to the station so that was tremendously helpful :)

- Nidhal (8/5): Amazing atmosphere, free onsen! - I drove around Kyushu for a few days and this was my last stop before driving to oita airport for my flight back to Tokyo!
- friendly staff! I had a big suitcase so one of the staff members helped me immediately no questions asked
- late check in and check out which is always really convenient
- beautiful common area with gorgeous calming music
- gorgeous onsen for free!!! Definitely the best part if you like hot springs
- apparently breakfast was delish (I didn’t have it but my dorm mate told me it was).
- they also sing country road before to show you off and show you a good journey - you have to shower in the onsen room even if you’re not going to get in the hot spring which I thought was a bit embarrassing for me 🙈
- Alena (10/5): - Cozy and welcoming place, with private Onsen and traditional Japanese rooms, good location. I would come back there and stay longer! The soundproofing is a bit weak, so you can hear the neighbors, but it’s not a big issue since the hostel has quiet hours after 10 p.m.
- Rochelle (9/5): I felt incredibly refreshed from this little town and recommend this hostel. - The view from the lounge area was incredible. The perfect view to drink tea, journal, write poetry, or plan your next stops. Nice dining area. Comfy beds. Cute onsen. Close to mount yufu which is a great climb, highly recommend. There were some limitations on hostel access that I wasn’t clear about which disrupted my planned activities one day. Staff were able to communicate with me and we sorted it out. But do check with staff before booking re: access to all spaces in hostel.

- Taylor-William (9/5): - Yufuin Country Road Youth Hostel feels less like a hostel and more like a warm, welcoming mountain retreat. The couple running the place have clearly poured a lot of heart into it—you can really sense their personalities through the thoughtful decor, communal touches, and overall atmosphere. One of my personal highlights was flipping through their collection of vinyl records, which added a lovely nostalgic charm. The use of a loudspeaker for announcements was surprisingly inventive and gave the place a bit of character.
The onsen is fantastic, and the setting makes you feel properly tucked away in nature. The climb up the hill to get there is no joke—especially in the summer heat—but it somehow added to the feeling of escape, like conquering your own little Everest. As someone who tends to keep to themselves, I spent most of my time in my room, but I get the sense that more extroverted travellers or those in a group would really thrive here. That said, after chatting with the hosts, I’d definitely consider returning—it’s the kind of place that stays with you.

- Jordyn (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful spot in a beautiful place. We can't say enough good things about the owners they were incredibly helpful and so so nice. :)
- Xiao (9/5): Superb - The owners were so accommodating and friendly Location
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely love this place and people!!
Ryo and Tomo are top notch host with attention to details, professionalism and with full of positive energy. Place is impeccably clean, cozy and warm with super cool onsen. I've had two wonderful meals and enjoyed every bite of it. Also have enjoyed the after dinner 2000 hr walking under the star lights. Ryo is an expert on stargazing and thank you again.
I'd love to return soon and wish you all the best.
Cheers and Carpe diem!

- Eliška (8/5): Very good - Amazing service - dinner for 1.200, breakfast for 750
The host offers to drive you to yufuin station at 8 or 9, very appreciated
The hotel has onsen downstairs, there's even music playing! This was great and relaxing
The spaces are warm and cozy, super pleasant stay!
There was also a parking lot It's a little away from the city, so plan in advance to get there (it's 30min uphill by feet by the road)
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice Onsen inside the hostel and super friendly and helpful owners :) also the dining / living room has a super chill atmosphere
- Charlotta (9/5): Superb - The hostel is located in a beautiful area and is quite remote but they tell you what times you can catch a bus from the center and can give you a to the center in the morning. We enjoyed to evening walking tours and the onsen was nice too! The house was beautiful and we had nice chats with other guests. They do different announcements in the morning by megafone so it is not really possible to sleep in. You should also note that you are not allowed to stay at the hostel during the day while they clean even if you are staying for several days.
- Daniel (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Minh (10/5): Country road, take me home - Great view from the dining room, amazing onsen and super nice owners
- Aracely (5/5): No cleaning, lot of dust - The place was cool, nice onsen, lot of mangas It was so dirty! It looks clean in a superficial way, check behind the beds and everywhere, it's full of shit, like they haven't cleaned It in years. I have an allergy to dust, based on how much I was coughing and the irritation on my throat and eyes, I can swear that place was disgusting. Thanks God I stayed for only one night
- Yoon (9/5): Superb -
- Aliaksandr (5/5): Passable -
- Julien (4/5): Not a hostel, a bland guesthouse with a rude owner - - Clean
- Nice hot spring
- comfortable bed This place is not a hostel by any means. Yes there is a dorm but it is closer to a guesthouse with the mood of a retirement home. First I arrived in the afternoon, a bit before checking, there was nobody and the house was closed. I found an open backdoor to leave my luggage (it is located 20 mins from city center on a steep walk). I felt like a burglar…
The mood inside is really boring. Cheesy « classical » music that made me wish the next song was not going to be a Christmas song. There is no kitchen you can use. When I asked for a plate and a fork I was given it but I felt like I was disturbing. In the morning you will get woken up around 7:15 with an alarm saying « breakfast is ready! ». Seriously… 🤯
Then the worst was after checkout. Checkout is at 10:00, so I was ready at 10:00 and asked if I could stay for a few minutes in the main room to prepare what I’m gonna do during my day (I always do that and there is never any problem). I was answered straight away: « no! We are cleaning! » Japanese people are usually very nice and polite, don’t expect that here! And when I left I couldn’t believe the owners insisted to play me a goodbye song. Wtf! 😬
- Elin (10/5): Exceptional - So cosy, sweet staff, good breakfast! A bit far from yufuin, but not a big problem
- Wright (8/5): Cosy and welcoming. - Kind and welcoming staff, who cooked very tasty food. The free onsen was a relaxing addition that helped me get a very good night’s sleep. The hostel is located at the top of of a hill where minimal buses run to, to my knowledge. It was a long walk since I do not have a car.
- Sanhanut (10/5): Wonderful hostel with an onsen - The property is very nice. I felt like I was staying at home, and the owner was both amiable and disciplined. The onsen was wonderful and relaxing, and the mountain view in the morning was spectacular. The food prepared by the owner was delicious, and they even performed a farewell song. The owner also provided a ride to the station at 8:20 in the morning (they offer rides to the station twice in the morning, at 8:20 and 9:20). If I have the chance, I would definitely stay here again.
- Rami (10/5): Tucked safely in the mountains, with great views and company - Ideal location, especially considering the shuffle to/from town. Clean, delicious and presentable food, and the staff are pleasant. The onsen is an incredible addition that rounds out the place as a gem.
- Jiun (10/5): Exceptional - Good view, comfortable beds, quiet and calm environment.
I was here 7 years ago, so I'm so surprised that they maintain the high quality of the accommodation for so long time.
Everything is as nice as 7 years ago.
Appreciate the great effort by the owner. The location is really far from the center.
I went there by car, so it was okay for me.
But if you go by public transportation, and you didn't reserve a meal there, you'd better buy your own food before you go to the hostel.
The owner also provides free rides twice a day as I remembered.
- D (6/5): Pleasant -
- Methinee (9/5): In the heart of nature - It feels like home. You get everything there. Clean room and toilets. There is no separate shower but there are a few in the onsen room. The onsen for male and female are entirely separate. The entrance has a separate door so the safety is guaranteed.
Dinner and stargazing are excellent. The owner gives you a lift to the train station at 8:20 and 9:20 every day. It’s quite far from the centre so please travel light or take a taxi.
- Krisztina (9/5): Superb - It is a typical hostel with a lot of Japanese guests. Really cool. They offer dinner and lunch as well. It is served as if all the guests were a big family. Nice staff. Onsen. Though not in the city, car is useful, the mountain location is great.
- Nualwan (8/5): Valuable - Valuable and cleanliness Time for cleaning 10.00-15.00 is not good. We are family and stayed 2 nites. We want to take a rest and go out late but the cleaning time forced us to wake up early and have to go out the hostel in the morning.
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional - I had a lovely stay! The atmosphere is very nice, the staff are kind and helpful and the food is delicious. The space is very comfortable and feels homely. The walk to see the stars was very fun! It’s a bit of a walk from town, but if you go on the back roads from the lake, it is a beautiful walk with good views of the mountain and some nice Japanese houses. The shuttle bus in the morning was useful and I enjoyed the goodbye song. Thank you!! Nothing
- Suchanart (10/5): Excellent and peaceful <3 - Very homey hostel with onsen bath. Also has free parking area for guests who drive a car like us. Location even not in the city but not too far. If have chance, would like to go back again. Breakfast was tasty Actually, everything is excellent for us. But if may need to mention one thing, there is no private or separately shower room (only in the onsen area). :)
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hsu (9/5): Affordable Hostel with a free Onsen! - Excellent host! Has an onsen inside too, free! Far from the main shopping area, but they offer pickup at 6pm from the main Yufuin Station (which I didn't know, I walked so far, but it's ok, exercised!)
Also offers breakfast for $5!
Other than that, everything is great! Host has been hosting for 18 years now with his wife! So you also have a native host!
When you leave, they sing you a country song, how unique!! Only bad thing is I got the top bunk-- it's quite difficult to climb up the ladder, it's not at an angle, but straight up 90 degrees. Especially if you need to use the restroom in the middle of the night. I would NOT recommend getting the top bunk--avoid if you can.
- Kodama-forget (9/5): Superb - Everything was clean and the common room is very cozy. The onsen was wonderful and relaxing as well. I was lucky enough to stay on a Friday, which every Friday the owner brings a van of guests and workers who want to participate to the local gymnasium that is open to the public and we played a bunch of sports and games together which was the highlight of my stay--would definitely recommend.
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean, nice onsen attached, very kind hosts A little out of town quite the trek up recommend ordering dinner before
