- Globalgran (10/5): Just the best place to stay in Dar es Salaam. - We always stay here after our annual volunteering visit to the Southern Highlands in Tanzania. In our opinion it is the best hotel in Dar es Salaam. The environs are full of lush tropical vegetation and the birdsong and scents are magical. The rooms are all on ground level with a comfortable seating area outside. They are large with a huge comfortable bed and air conditioning and fans. The bathroom is large with a walk in powerful shower. The reception staff are friendly, welcoming and do anything to assist. The bar and waiting on staff are attentive, friendly and helpful and our waiter last night, Edward, was one of the best. The menu is extensive and the food freshly cooked and beautifully presented in the restaurant overlooking the Indian Ocean with the gentle sound of rolling waves. In the morning you can see the fishermen with their nets and boats getting today’s catch. The swimming pool is warmed by the sun and the spa has expert beauticians and a good menu of treatments. There is plenty of parking and willing hands to assist with luggage. We just love to relax here for a few days on our way back home and thoroughly recommend Mediterraneo.

- sarai250 (8/5): Lovely stay - This review is for two separate visits, before and after the safari. On both times we had the same room, number 2 in the garden and it was nice and quiet. We liked the green/blue colour scheme of the room. The bed was big and cozy with mosquito net, mattress firm enough. Air conditioning very efficient and there was also a fan in the ceiling. There is a wardrobe and also a small fridge to cool your drinks. Bathroom is quite big with nice shower, always hot water available. Hotel has a beautiful garden and if you like birds, you might find some lovely sunbirds, bee-eaters and other beautiful species. These is well kept swimming pool area too, we loved the big sunbeds to have an afternoon nap in the shade. The restaurant is nice with friendly service. But if it´s full, sometimes it takes a long time to get food. All the food was good, except the pizzas I suspect to be from the freezer. Sometimes they didn’t have some items like tonic water, but this is a norm in Africa I guess. And the morning we were supposed to start our safari, we went to the breakfast at 7 AM but they weren’t ready even at 7.30 so off we went. Special mention to Micah at the reception, she is exceptionally friendly and efficient when I contacted the hotel beforehand and also on the spot. I wouldn’t hesitate to book here again.
- joelleafrique (2/5): Very bad hotel never again - Review posted: 4 weeks ago Huge disappointment Personal message to the management of this hotel and to all Europeans who might consider staying here: a hotel that calls itself three stars but is actually a -3! Seriously, who are they kidding? I tested three different rooms in three days. In the first one, I stayed 10 minutes; the safe was open and had no batteries, so it was unusable. The second room was full of problems: faulty light bulbs, poor cleanliness, rusty faucets, a drain plug that wouldn't lift, a bathtub that was too high to step over and had no grab bar for elderly people. Not to mention the mold at the bottom of the BLACK curtain... and that's not all. I'll post the photos. The third room was the one I was given before leaving, costing $60, and like all the others, it was incredibly ugly: chipped paint, a rusty shower, and a curtain that clung to you and didn't reach the floor… so the shower was flooded… everywhere. The shampoo and soap bottles were upside down, so you couldn't tell which was the right one… and the lids were filthy. Rust was everywhere. Stains were everywhere. That was the only positive thing. Period. Perhaps a slightly more positive point was the air conditioning, which worked when the power wasn't cut off four times in one evening. I'll never set foot in that place again. And I forgot to mention the restaurant, which is supposedly Italian, but the meat wasn't even fresh in the spaghetti bolognese. You have to wonder if they even have a walk-in refrigerator, and if it even works! Way too much cheese in every dish. The only decent thing was a chicken and noodle soup that came out of a can, and at least I didn't get sick. The lampposts above your head are covered in cobwebs, and to top it off, the cobwebs are there too, waiting to fall into your plate. At the pool, many crows nest in the trees, which is great for environmentalists, but when they spray your hair and legs with their droppings twice a day, it's not so funny. The breakfast is completely inadequate; $15 for a breakfast of this quality is highway robbery. One positive point is the little lady who cleans your rooms and still manages to smile. In short, a hotel to quickly forget on the long list of hotels I've stayed in worldwide. And yet, even in Africa, it's possible to do better with less money. Wake up, ladies and gentlemen of management, and see your rooms for yourselves; perhaps you'll understand better. TIA!! And to top it all off, the bath towels are kitchen towels, and the pool towels are dirty and tiny. I saw it, I tried it, but I will NEVER return. Your photos on Booking.com do not reflect reality. - kevinmkelli (10/5): Best Hotel in Dar - A fantastic experience. It was my second time after 10 years but it was an even better experience. The location is one of the best in Daresalaam and I enjoyed the sunrise over the beach in the morning as fishermen set out to sea. The entrance is very accessible, you can easily get a taxi or Tuk Tuk . Safe neighborhood with Mikocheni Plaza and Mlimani city mall close by. I stayed in room 22, which was cleaned very well, I didn’t get the housekeepers name but she was amazing. Maintenance is very good overall but the showerhead was a little rusty. Breakfast was set in a fabulous setting, delicious but not very many options. Still great. Drinks are reasonably priced and there’s a very pleasant vibe in the entire compound. The icing on the cake are the staff. I have never encountered such friendly staff in Dar es Salaam, from Saning’o the Maasai who welcome you to the waiters, barmen, cleaners. Special mention to Lucy at the restaurant, very professional with a welcoming smile. Eve at the reception was excellent and made us feel very welcome. Micah is the absolute star of the show, and the reason we booked this hotel in the first place. She handled our enquiry & booking efficiently and was helpful throughout our stay, an amazing personality and a huge asset to this hotel. We had a peaceful stay during the election period and Micah arranged for us and other guests safe transportation to the airport. We did not encounter any protests. This hotel is 10/ 10 Thank you very much and looking forward to my third visit!

- mariamJ4121MT (10/5): Amazing in Dar - Really amazing hotel, great food, pool and view! The staff was very attentive. The room was large and spacious. It had the best bathroom of all the places we stayed. Only downside was them not being able to accommodate our need for an extra bed or baby crib.
- Tinnae (8/5): Garden Oasis on the Beach - Upon arrival you're greeted with lush greenery that is immediately calming. I arrived early and was able to keep my luggage on the property until check-in. Overall, the grounds are immaculately kept and the service is nice. The room was spacious and clean. I liked that there is a fan and AC. I did not use the patio but it was covered with comfy pillows if you wanted to lay out and read or nap during your stay. The only con is that the bathroom showerhead was filled with grime that I cleaned off and informed the front desk about. You may have to flush the toilet twice. I'd stay again and try the restaurant.

The staff is very helpful and friendly. It was a pleasure to have Flaviana tidy up our room. She is discrete, works really well and always brings a bit of sun into to the room with her smile.

Sunrise over the horizon was breathtaking that people come to take photos and videos of the view from 6am. One day, I asked a random housekeeper nearby to see if it would be possible to hurry on my room. She mentioned that she would be coming soon. I was seated outside on a concrete. She noticed than brought me a cushion to give me a comfort first. Housekeeper Jackline is always smiling while working and being helpful.

With a stunning view and a warm, inviting atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot for a relaxed meal. I started with the calamari ripieni di ricotta, which was delicious, followed by the filetto di manzo alla romana as my main course—both dishes were spot-on. The tiramisu for dessert was simply perfect. I enjoyed three Negronis, which were decent, but the overall experience was fantastic. Highly recommend this place for a memorable Mediterranean dining experience!

I greatly enjoy listening to and watching the waves crash against the rocks under the restaurant in the morning and evening. The rooms are comfortable and the food is good. The service this time was not as on point as before (staff seem very young and distracted), but was still average in their response to my few needs. I'll be back.

If you did not know where you were, you would have thought you were at a world class 4-star hotel. Staff is great and helped us with our wedding reception. Awesome by the Indian Ocean.

Mosquitoes are a major problem, so have some repellant. Prices at the restaurant are steeper than at similar hotels around Dar, but the food is excellent.
- LaToya (10/5): What I needed to recover from stressful travels - This was a great change of pace in my long journey on the continent. Also I had stayed at a local resort for a few days and needed to get a new booking and Mediterraneo was perfect. It was quiet, and boutique, and great views. I wish I had more time to just sit around the place, but I had to work. Check in was easy, and even when there were glitches with my reservation people were so helpful and kind. The food was wonderful. The ambiance was what made it just what I needed to recover from high stress travel. If I return to Dakar, I will return here for sure. Solo travel or with friends.

- Sandra (10/5): - Mediterraneo continues to be a wonderful retreat outside of crazy Dar. The sounds of the ocean coming in for high tides much more of the afternoon is great
- Lisa (2/5): - A taxi from the bus station or airport is 24,000 TSH. If you order a taxi from this hotel, it will take more than 30 minutes and will be 70,000 TSH. It’s really unfortunate that they exploit their guests like this. The food and drinks are the restaurant are way overpriced. After traveling Africa for 10 months, this was the most I spent of food and drinks and they were by far some of the worst I’ve had. The staff are slow and not attentive. The hot water does not work and the air conditioning only works if you’re lucky when you’re in the room. There are much better places to stay for the price. They exploit travelers and charge them $35 for a 20 minute taxi ride? Disgusting.

The swimming pool was refreshing, but the fact that it closed at 6:00 pm nightly was disappointing. The room was spacious and comfortable. The only place with A/C is your room. Would be nice if part of the restaurant had A/C.

- James (10/5): Great stay as ever! - Always a pleasure to stay here, even if you are working downtown, it's worth the extra drive! Staff great, but most of all it feels like a holiday even if it isn't. Wifi also pretty good, was strong enough to take calls etc. Just remember to plan ahead for the traffic when heading downtown or to the airport!

Our room was near reception and the WIFI was excellent. Breakfast choices were good considering being a small hotel. Kawe Beach is not the most appealing. I have seen that the closer the beach is to downtown, the less appealing it becomes. The pool water also appeared dirty but perhaps it was due to the brown slate stone in the pool bottom. Overall, a positive experience.

- Kassity (10/5): - It was a nice tranquil property away from the busy downtown Dar. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was renovated and large. I really enjoy the garden all around the rooms. It’s nice to sit around the garden and just relax. The wifi was good also in the rooms and sufficient for working on the laptop. The kitchen has good food as well. My only issue is I hope they give you some drinking water daily since it is away from town and drinking water is not easily purchased at the store outside the property. Otherwise, very nice hotel overall.

Small pool, but enough for refreshing. There is also gym, but it needs maintenance. Also ordering Uber may take 10-15 minutes.

If you pay in cash for breakfast and request change back in order to leave a tip, you won't get any back, on several occasions the waiter would keep 20,000 shillings for an 8,000 schillings bill. The views are great and the food is pretty good but it was our l ast favorite stop on a month long trip through Africa.

Lovely to be able to enjoy breakfast or lunch or dinner with a view of the beach. Enjoyed the pool as well. After trainings and meetings it was great to come back and kick back and relax. Great food in the restaurant which was quite busy at times - but the service was still very good. The view from both the bottom floor and upstairs is great. Staff are very attentive to any of your needs. Incredibly relaxing atmosphere.

For such a hotel they should have the right equipment for security checks and not a guard standing wanting to know what your carrying inside your bags - very unprofessional and lame. Amenities; the basic amenities ( toiletries) like shampoo, toothpaste, conditioner, toothbrush, shower gel should or MUST be included it’s our right can’t pay over $80 per night and buy my own toothpaste that’s insane and embarrassing. The bar soap called “EVA” is a brand of soap that is found in local guesthouse you find it at Mediterraneon with no explanation. The management needs to do something - I’ve told them right away how bad I felt and it’s true I can’t book that place no matter how much I would love to visit there. I’m sure there better place like the Western coral beach and lay that cash and have a relaxing weekend Mauki

Everything was generally good at the hotel except that there are a lot of mosquitoes but there is netting and spray available in the rooms. The beach is not as clean as one would like but the swimming pool is great.
