- Deane (10/5): - A real lovely place to stay
- Peter (4/5): Terrible Experience ! - Be Aware! I had to climb 49 stairs to reach my room!! No elevator!!!!
This was not clear from the property description.
Asked to change the room, but they would not do it!
Terrible experience!

- Bronwyn (10/5): Friendly and helpful owner; comfortable stay - These are lovely self-contained cabins, run by the super hospitable and helpful Ali! They are VERY clean, which we appreciated, and although we didn't really use it, the kitchen was well stocked. I'd definitely stay again.
- David (10/5): - Outstanding accomodation with sea veiws, staff were wonderful too

- Shannon (10/5): Awesome - A+ loved our stay
- RA (10/5): great days at Bay of Islands - great location, especially seaview cabins. Nice studio's, lux cabins with veranda. 5 minutes walk to town with nice restaurants and bars. Only minus was internet, which did not always function well (limited speed & reach).
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice stay! - Great cabins! Nice view from the sea-view cabins. Lovely staff. Appreciated the kitchenette in the cabin. Easy walk into the town center. Lots of nearby shops and restaurants. Nearby beach is great, too!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The place has it all, the owners are extremely friendly, excellent location and the cabins are fantasti. I’m already planning a trip back,
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely cabin surrounded by greenery, great deck. The inside is comfortable, good space & very clean. Easy walk to the town.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice quiet. Good location
Good staff
Good facilities
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice little cabin perched on the hill with a view of both the hills and (a bit of) the sea conveniently located for the bars and restaurants of Pahia. Our welcome on arrival was very friendly. There was a good amount of cooking implements which came in handy but the cabin could have benefited from some complementary shower gel/body wash. The shower head was also a bit small for me at 6'1"! Altogether however we really enjoyed this property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is situated in a quiet location, slightly uphill and within a 5 min walk into the centre of the lovely town. The property was clean and had everything we needed as a couple in our 50's visiting for 5 nights.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Close to everything, yet very quiet and off the beaten track.
- Rachel_&_Gary (10/5): - We had a wonderful time staying at Bay Cabinz. The property is in the perfect location, walking distance to everything that Paihia has to offer and hosts Ali and Ken were incredibly friendly and helpful. The cabin and property are exactly as described on the website. The room was very comfortable with a strong & hot shower, newly installed aircon, TV and kitchenette. The balcony was perfect for dining and relaxing and we made use of the on-site BBQ almost every day. The top cabins might be a little tricky for those who have mobility issues but for those who don't, they're perfect for making you feel like you have your own private spot tucked away amongst the trees.
- Patricia (10/5): Beautiful location overlooking the bay. - We stayed for 3 nights in one of the cabins on the upper level of the Motel with a great view across the town to the Bay. Our cabin was clean and comfortable with a small kitchenette which was very useful. Each cabin has a small deck at the front and down the side, both equipped with a table and chairs to sit out and enjoy the view. The owners are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The Motel is in a good location, only a short walk to restaurants and shops in Paihia. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Bay Cabinz Motel.
- Brian (10/5): Paihia - a gem of the North Island - Paihia is a fabulous wee place in the Bay of Islands and we stayed there for 4 nights in early February. The weather might have been better but that did not put us off in any way.
The Bay Caninz Motel was ideally placed for us to enjoy the delights of Paihia. Our hosts, Ken and Ali, went out of their way to be of help and to give us hints on where to go and where to eat.
Our cabin was just over 5 minutes from the centre of town and thus within reach of all that we needed. It was clean and quite spacious with a nice balcony to sit out on of an evening after eating.
Any gripes? Just one really. A second mirror, outside of the bathroom, would have been useful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved our stay here. Owners were friendly, welcoming and super helpful throughout. Nothing was a problem for them. The cabin has great facilities for self catering and a fantastic view of the beach, which was under 5 mins walking. The cabins each have a decking with table and chairs and it was wonderful to sit out there and enjoy the ocean breeze. The ferry and activities also super close. The cabins are up a hill top and easy access to the town. We were able to relax, park our van and access great locations such as Piapia, Kerikeri and the town of Russell is a ferry ride away. The beach at the main drag is crowded with tourists, so I suggest driving a little further out for serenity and clearer waters. The treaty grounds a under 5 mins away and worth a visit.
Although I would not recommend for young children - it’s better suited to a more mature traveller who wants peace and quiet and a more boutique style of accomodation.
We really enjoyed our stay. I would have loved a sofa in the cabin to really nail the comfort level.
It was exactly what we needed and I would definitely stay here again! Thank you so much to the newish owners ! Was like staying with old family friends !
- Verified traveler (10/5): - What a great place to stay. The cabin was extremely comfy with a gorgeous view. We were greeted like family and treated like royalty.
The location was first class with an easy stroll to the beach and all the shops.
- Ivan (10/5): Friendly - Very nice place
- Robert (10/5): - The stay was excellent. You are in separate little cabins. Festival was on when I was there, and I heard nothing all night long. The owner went out of his way to help.
- Kieran (10/5): - What a great place to stay! I felt very well welcomed and the facilities were much better than the pictures. Well stay there next time im in the bay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful Atmosphere - Beautiful views. Lovely service. The native setting was perfect for the cabins.
- Sandra (10/5): Location location - Great location. Friendly helpful hosts. Terrific cabin. We loved our stay at Paihai
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent motel in good location. - Lovely cabin amongst the trees . Had the top cabin with sea views.
- Robert (10/5): Nice individual cabins in great location - The cabins are very comfortable with all amenities. Initial climb with luggage may be a bit taxing, however view from cabins across the town and water is very good
The pizza from nearby Ruffinos was expensive but the best pizza I have eaten (supreme)!
- Bev (8/5): Convenient and quite comfortable - Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. The motel was well placed, quiet and convenient to enable walking to all venues but the last Hill was steep as well as the climb to the cabins. Not suitable for folk with disabilities.
- david (8/5): First time in New Zealand . - All went well except the weather. Rained the three days I was in Paihia.hotel was close to town, which is small. Room was clean, newer, and my view was nice. If you have bad knees, beware
- Richard (8/5): Nice motel with plenty to do in the area - Very warm and informative welcome for our week's stay at Bay Cabinz.
Our luggage had beeen lost en route, and Ken and Ally lent us clothes, sun tan cream and anything else we needed, and really went out of their way to help us until our bags arrived.
The motel is a short walk from the Intercity bus stop from Auckland.
We appreciated the verandah where we could have breakfast looking out over the bay, and a beer at the end of an interesting day.
- jim (10/5): Paihia resort - Arrived mid afternoon, met by Ken and Ellie although busy Ken was on hand to help with our cases, Ellie explained how all things worked and informed us of facilites available, and booked tours for us during our stay..
We enjoyed our stay going on several trips using Bay Cabinz motel as a base for our car trips to places of interest further a field
Would definitely stay there again when visiting Paihia region.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely and quiet but close to the main street - Lovely place to stay. Friendly Moteliers - we are definatley coming back
- Paul (10/5): Something just a little bit different - Motel consists of 10 individual cabins located on a hillside in Paihia - it's a nice location with a good view. We had the lowest cabin which had disabled access ramps (we didn't need disabled access it's just the cabin we were given) but the other cabins, higher up the hillside, are accessed by stairs which may be a problem for some. The room was a decent size (ours also had a box room with single bed) with a large shower/wet room - again suitable for disabled people. There was also a small hob, microwave & fridge so you could self cater if you wanted to. We found the local amenities (restaurants, supermarket, souvenir shops etc) all to be within easy walking distance & we ate out as a result .....besides which we were on holiday & didn't want to cook! The room was clean, the owner/receptionist very happy to help & welcoming & we couldn't have asked for more during our 2 night stay there. Highly recommended 😊
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Option for Paihia - We enjoyed our stay at Bay Cabinz. The hotel is walkable to the pier and downtown Paihia. It was quiet with lots of amenities - Kitchenette, fluffy towels, strong wifi, and additional twin bed. Highly recommend for your trip to Bay of Islands.
- david (10/5): Very friendly staff, good location. - . Nice and clean and very easy access walking distance to everything
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great hosts! Very nice tidy accomodation. Had a wedding in bay of islands and owners drove us to the ferry as it was pouring with rain.
- elaine (10/5): Nice motel in the centre, great views - Lovely welcome when we arrived. Clean room and great facilities. Couldn't have been more central. Will use again
- kim (10/5): Convenient - The unit was well equipped to have a self catered holiday. Good location to everything at paihia. Staff helpful. Had a enjoyable time.
- pickle (4/5): too many steps - Disapointing because once you have walked up many steps carrying a bag there was no couch to sit on just dinning chairs. The decor was dated and so was the duvet cover. It was pokey and small.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Individual Cabins in a very nice setting close to all amenities
- Diane (6/5): OK MOTEL. - We stayed over the easter weekend. The room was reasonable but nothing special and we considered it overpriced for the standard of accommodation.
Paihia is a pleasant seaside town with many tours and attractions, the best value is the ferry to Russell which is a lovely little town.
