Guest Reviews
- Amy (8/5): -
- scott (5/5): Nice staff - Friendly staff Dated, old tv, just tired for $172
- Ray (8/5): - Hot water seemed to be in short supply and the shower went cold very quickly
- Dunn (10/5): comfortable, clean and affordable - We were originally booked in a upstairs unit but due to an illness I am unable to do stairs. It was not a problem for a change to be made on the spot. Bed was comfortable and the spa bath was just what I needed. Great location. We will be back again. Nothing to improve - really happy with our accommodation.
- Wendy (8/5): -
- Murray (8/5): - The reception by the manager was better than anywhere we have been in NZ or around the world. He was very welcoming, friendly and informative. Nil
- Diane (7/5): Good value for what we required - Great location for our needs. A little tired unit, but all we needed was a bed for the night. Very noisy hot water cylinder.
- David (6/5): Great location - Great location and friendly service. It was pleasant being close to the river. The facilities were pretty old and the shower went cold. The motel needs an upgrade and is not really what you expect in 2026.
- Julia (8/5): Relaxing weekend break in Wanganui - Good size accommodation and comfy beds, clean and tidy motel in easy walking distance to town
centre.
Kitchenette and bathroom are original, but clean, tidy and functional. Friendly staff.
- Pascale (7/5): - Very quiet. Easy checkin and checkout. Large comfortable bed. Comfortable kitchen. Old place which needs renovation. Price isn't right for the age of the premises and facilities.. too expensive.
A strong smell of sweat remained my whole stay.. 2 nights.. I suggest to clean carpet, etc.
I didn't have a shower so can't rate the shower.
The back door - to the garden - isn't functioning properly.
I also suggest less mirrors and a couple of art works instead!
- frances (1/5): wont go back - nothing ordered a one bedroom with set requirements got a studio
arrived late too late to change
- Hughes (9/5): Our preferred accomodation when we come to Whanganui. - A very clean, spacious and comfortable unit.
- Selwyn (7/5): All good - All good No toilet paper
- Penny (9/5): - Smelt like curry when we arrived
- TETSUAKI (10/5): いつまで大事にしてほしい宿 - 魅力ある街の素敵な宿。名前の通り窓から川が見えて、ゆっくりできた。 ストーブの後ろに、ゴミが絡んであった。
- MrandMrsSmith (8/5): It’s okay for short stays. - Steve was very accommodating and full of enthusiasm. We requested if we could check in earlier and he was very helpful to allow us to. A little too outdated.
- Fuatino (9/5): Our stay was so good, that there is nowhere else I’d rather stay at for my next visit to Whanganui - I love the location!! We stayed in room 7 which I believe has the best view!! The room was clean, everything needed was available and the staff were very very friendly!
- Trish (7/5): - Friendly and accommodating staff. The room lay out was bit unusual and quite clinical.
- Debbie (10/5): - Quiet room. Beds were comfortable. Shower pressure amazing. Staff were super friendly. Excellent location.
- Karen (10/5): Good value for money. - Very spacious, clean and had a friendly staff. Nothing. It’s good.
- Dennis (10/5): -
- Kristine (8/5): Friendly staff and comfortable bed. - Great location and comfortable bed. Nice and dark for sleeping at night. It was very dated but I was mostly there to sleep between sporting events so it didn’t matter.
The shower was hot, the bedding clean and bed comfortable which is all I needed.
There was a weird vibration 2 of 3 nights which made it difficult to relax.
- Kevin (5/5): - Location Poor cooking facilities, no ventilation.
- Jacob (8/5): -
- Steve (7/5): enjoyed the stay, its an excellent location with short walk to river cafes and town restaurants - Always very clean and tidy, helpful friendly staff have stayed here before and was excellent, this was a very hot day and we had an upstairs room which was a bit warm overnight and hard to get a breeze through.
- Phil (6/5): OK - Location, view of garden area Shower not good, old facilities, traffic noise
- Peter (7/5): -
- Janette (8/5): Thank you for having us. - Lovely staff. Good value. Location. Could do with a few paint touch ups.
- Fenton (10/5): -
- Matt (6/5): Older, and needs updating. But clean units, and nice staff. - Central location, polite reception and helpful responses. Tight parking and not near our units (but at least got a space). No aircon in the rooms, and one of the lads TVs didn't work properly. Bit difficult to get shower temp right, but was ok in the end, although fairly low pressure.
- Brooke (10/5): -
- Bryan (5/5): Dissapointing - The staff were friendly and the location was good. The garden studio was in a very tired state. Shower curtain was in a poor condition resulting in a very wet floor.
The couch had seen better days.
And cabinets had chipped paintwork.
On returning after an evening meal there was no parking available, so we reluctantly had to park on a busy street. Not ideal.
We expected alot better as it had a reasonably good rating guide.
- Gareth (9/5): - Staff were great and friendly, even shifted our room for us on the day for no extra cost so we could have a bath, which wasn't on our original room. Location is so close to town, waking distance to most things. Not much, some of the room decor was a bit dated, but that didn't effect the stay and everything worked.
- McDowall (8/5): - Convenient to local eaterys and highway. Relaxing walk along river just across the road. Only stayed one night so no negative response.
- Jipsy Jade (8/5): A Nice home away from home experience - Spacious and all the amenities Tv and sky was a bit hard to work, reception etc
- Cam (7/5): -
- Lyn Wright (10/5): - Service and knowledge of host was fabulous and very helpful. Room really nice, with a lovely spa. Bed very comfortable and the little thoughtful things made it a great stay. Would definitely recommend Can't think of anything
- Rosaline (10/5): Friendly and very helpful - We didn’t have breakfast Enjoyed our time nothing necitive
- Anne (8/5): -
- Frances (7/5): -
- philip (8/5): - Close to town centre
- Bronwyn (8/5): Overall a good place for one night. Easy walk to the town centre. The unit was a bit dated but adequate for our stay. F - Location was good A bit dated.
- Christopher (8/5): Whanganui Motel - Great location opposite the river. Walking distance to town. Quiet. Very friendly staff. Water temperature in the shower fluctuated wildly. Quite dangerous.
- webley (6/5): Overpriced - Lot of space Overpriced for what you get
- Dianne (8/5): - Convenient location and pleasant staff. The shower was very small. Difficult for my tall husband
- Lynn (8/5): Convenient and well priced - good for a night or two - Easy walk to town, nice by the river. Spacious room opening out to grass area Shower was hard to get strong and right temp. Little tired but fine for an overnight stay
- Fred (9/5): -
- Kees (8/5): Prima motel met tuin - Prettige kamer met tuintoegang
- Michael (7/5): Fine - Location primo. Can walk to town and along river. Clean. Very tired
- Wendy (9/5): A clean comfortable place to stay within walking distance of most attractions - The amount of space we had It looked a little dated
- Stewart (5/5): - Clean, close to town, friendly staff. Old bed and cost of stay. Could have been cheaper
- Pauling (9/5): - Very central. Clean and comfortable with everything you need for a short stay. Staffs ashtray with cigarette butts left outside our unit - nothing major.
- Sandy (6/5): -
- Paul (7/5): -
- Margaret (10/5): - Staff were very helpful and obliging.
- ALLAN JOHN (8/5): All good - As above all good N.A.
- Leigh (10/5): Short and sweet - Spacious and conveniently located. Ideal for a quick family stopover. N/A
- Katherine (8/5): Suited our needs - Stayed in the two bedroom unit. Spacious, sunny, held the warmth over the night. Would stay again.
- John (6/5): Disappointing. - Good location. I can only comment on suite 6. This was on first floor at the front so had a river view. But it was a strange design, had dated fittings, with a little airless kitchen. It was hot and smelly when we walked in but very noisy from the road when windows open.
- Declan (10/5): -
- Susan (9/5): A great place to stay. - Spacious and well equipped All was fine
- Brian (9/5): - Spacious room, very friendly manager, excellent whirlpool tub. Pleasant walk to downtown area.
- Alison (7/5): -
- Vanessa (6/5): -
- Francis Gloria (9/5): Awesome - All bedsheets is new clean comfortable Fan so noisy
- Gail Puanga Reihana (9/5): - I love the quiet 🤐🤫 there Our shower 🚿 cn be a bit faster and the lamp 🛋️ in the bedroom was playing up so hpe it cn be fix before we come back for next year plus now my brother likes his room which was number 1 RM see U nxt year
- M D (7/5): - Pleasant and amenable host.
Convenient location.
Plenty of room.
Affordable
- Jean (7/5): - Chambre avec Vue sur la rivière Whanganui Proche de la route avec bruit des voitures. Peu de circulation néanmoins car c’était le week end
- Natasha (6/5): Comfortable stay in a good location that is an easy walk to cafes and restaurants. - Well laid out and good kitchen facilities. The road noise. Our room overlooked the road along the river. In the day it was very noisy as the windows are only single glazed.
- Steve (7/5): -
- Allan (10/5): Pleasant Peaceful short stay break - Location is excellent. The motel is within easy walking distance of the main shops which is a positive. Also, being located beside the river, there is the opportunity for good walks on flat paths - especially if you are interested in the riverboat history of Wanganui. The motel is a 5-10 minutes walk from both the wharf where river cruises depart and the riverboat museum. Nothing to say here
- Smithies (6/5): Clearly not more than a 3 star motel but very helpful staff and excellent location. - Very helpful staff. Close to the town centre.Very clean, good shower. Not enough lighting. Passing traffic noise. Mattresses too soft for our liking.
- Helen (7/5): -
- Barrie (9/5): -
- Ben (7/5): - Spa bath in bathroom was not working
- Graeme (10/5): Comfortable, clean and spacious - Plenty of rooms, clean and tidy, great place for relaxing
- Colin (8/5): Would happily stay here again -
- Rein (7/5): Overall, good - Good location, friendly staff. Traffic noise, steep stairs
- Stephan (8/5): -
- Tony (7/5): -
- Ross (8/5): -
- Bobbie (5/5): - Location The TV had no signal & I feel it was too pricy for the age & tiredness of the room.
- Mark (6/5): -
- Shalav (10/5): - Great location for access to central Whanganui
- Lynette (7/5): Pretty good value for a few nights stay. - Lovely large unit, with comfortable beds and couches. Friendly, helpful staff. The unit was hot and the ceiling fan didn’t cool things down. There was a fan in the main bedroom which was used all night. The fridge/freezer was the tiniest appliance I’ve ever seen, and quite awkward to bend down to access.
- Britt (10/5): -
- Jill (8/5): Spacious, clean and in a good location to explore Whanganui - Great location, walking distance to town and the river boat. Our unit was spacious with a separate bedroom, large bathroom and decent kitchen with two burners but no oven. The bathroom had toiletries and facecloths. The wifi was good. The receptionist was very helpful and gave suggestions on what to see and do. The location was quiet with no road noise. We couldn't figure out the TV and only a couple of channels worked.
- Faye (8/5): -
- Diane (9/5): Clean, comfotable and good environment. - The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were were friendly and welcoming. NIt was close enough to the centre to walk in for bars and restaurants. Nothing
- Peter (7/5): Decent accommodation in good location. - Good spot right on the river.
- Krzysztof (3/5): -
- Lorna (10/5): - Lovely motel with lots of space. Lovely staff
- Cook (4/5): This is a great location and a cheap motel in the area with zero frills. - This motel is is a great location opposite the riverside walkway and close to town. It is clear that there has been no investment in refurbishment for decades, which made it very dreary as the paintwork is battered, the carpet has carpet moth. The walls are very thin and the people through the wall were easily audible snoring etc. There was road noise.
- Chris (8/5): -
- Ward (8/5): - Walking distance to town
- David (8/5): -
- Fitzpatrick Debbie (8/5): - Clean, spacious good price Bed a little uncomfortable but adequate x
- Alan (5/5): Good views - old style accommodation - shower average - Location Very tired older style Accommodation

- hayley (8/5): Riverview Motel - Great location. Clean and tidy. Quiet. Spacious. Dated, but still comfortable.
