- Simon (9/5): Great location and amenities with excellent views. - Great location, excellent facilities and very homely. Very handy having a washing machine as we had been travelling for 10 days and to refresh some clothes. Nothing that comes to mind
- Astrid (6/5): -
- Patricia (10/5): - Vue magnifique, baignoire spa très appréciée
- Susan (9/5): Great location and beautiful place to stay - Well located with a beautiful view of the harbor. Perfectly clean and well appointed. Really appreciated having laundry in the room as well. Really enjoyed our stay! Nothing
- Roderick (10/5): -
- Donna (10/5): Crazy not to go there! Pamper yourself! - The beautiful views, the comfort, the size, the added touches, the friendly and helpful hosts: it was truly a sanctuary! Nothing
- Susan (10/5): It was a best stay in NZ. - Everything! Nothing
- Robert (10/5): Beautiful apartment overlooking Bay of Islands. - Very clean modern apartment with all the requirements for a very comfortable stay. Apartment situated on the high ground overlooking the Bay of Islands, was the perfect accommodation to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Nothing.
- robert (10/5): - Great views of the bay, really clean, plenty of room and a comfy bed.
We walked down into town to go to a restaurant, the roads a bit steep but good exercise All good
- Lisa (7/5): -
- Julia (10/5): -
- Graham (9/5): - Good location with lovely views. Accommodation was well appointed and had everything we needed.
- Frank Methorst (9/5): - Great accomodation
- Ros (9/5): - Location was wonderful, easy to get into the town for restaurants, ferry etc, lovely view from the lounge window.
- David (10/5): A lively relaxing stay - Beautiful apartment, amazing views!
- Leanne (9/5): Thee best experience hubby and I have come across. - Room, bathroom, kitchen, location and the garden view all lovely Parking was a little tight
- Ron (8/5): Very nice place, but for younger people (and only after the hosts improve the internet connection) - The view is fabulous. The furnishings, including the bed, are high quality and comfortable. The kitchen has relatively new appliances, and was well stocked and clean. There is a purified water spigot as well, which was convenient. The lighting is good. The onsite manager is very nice, but not really that helpful (see below). The hosts provided very comprehensive information about the area and resources. There are a number of negatives, particularly from the perspective of guests over 70. They include:
- the driveway is very steep making vehicle ingress and egress difficult;
- although the walk to the town and wharf of Paihia is about 12 minutes, the walk back is a trudge uphill;
- the hosts' instructions about when to leave the windows open or turn on the dehumidifier were at best, ambiguous;
- the bedroom TV didn't work;
- the remote for the bedroom A/C screen was blank so I couldn't tell what the settings were (but, I was able to set, and leave it, at a comfortable temperature); and
- although the bathroom was beautiful, the marble or some other polished stone floors and steps (yes, 2 of them) up into the tub/shower are a slip and fall hazard (yes, I did trip over the bottom stair getting from the toilet to the sink). The step corners were very sharp, and there were no railing or anything to hold onto getting in and out of the tub/show.
Finally, the Wi-Fi was HORRIBLE (caps because our stay was 6 nights with very poor internet). The signal strength was minimal. It made casting to the TV rather aggravating and simple internet activity very slow. The irony was that there was another locked Wi-Fi with a very strong signal. The hosts claimed it wasn't theirs, but given the strength and the proximity of the neighboring house, I doubt that was true. I used my cellphone data instead for everything but casting to the TV, which required the property's internet connection.
- Dene (9/5): -
- Chantal (9/5): - Das Appartement ist sehr gut eingerichtet und hat alles, was man braucht.
Sehr guter Kaffee vorhanden.
Waschmaschine und Tumbler sind sehr praktisch.
Viel Privatsphäre und Ruhe. Alles war bestens.

- Tracy (10/5): Perfect location, with a touch of luxury! - WOW! Exceeded all reviews and expectations. Every detail, was truly thoughtful, right down to bathroom amenities!
Definitely would stay again. Pacifika, was beautiful and private with a patio view of the bay!
- John (9/5): -
- Julie (10/5): - A beautifully clean and welcoming apartment . We stayed in the Pacifica suite and it was fantastic. Very comfortable with quirky decor. Lovely veranda with views over the Bay. It is a rather steep hill up to it but after the first time walking back it didn't seem too bad. Absolutely worth it and we would definitely stay here again (even with the hill). There was nothing.
- John (10/5): -
- Jamie (10/5): -
- Cooper (10/5): - Gorgeous views, beautiful apartment, well equipped
- jefferies (9/5): -
- Teresa (9/5): - Excellent and prompt communication. Great set up, has everything you can think of. Loved the spa bath and the candles, as well as the wonderful view when sitting at the table.
- ROBERT (8/5): - Quiet location and nicely decorated. The television in the living are was pathetic!
- Andrew (10/5): Fabulous location and views across the Bay of Islands - The view- the luxury- the lovely location Ants- but that was my stupid fault
- Andrew (10/5): This is a little piece of paradise and the hosts were so helpful! - This place is one of the best places we have ever stayed. The hosts were so helpful and saw to everything we needed. Nothing it was perfect
- Kelly (9/5): -
- B. (8/5): -
- Vincent (9/5): - Very nice Location. I didn’t realize how far it was uphill.
- Nelleke (8/5): - Prachtig uitzicht vanuit de woonkamer Ruim appartement. Alles is aanwezig. Jammer dat er niet echt een goede buitenruimte is om te zitten. Bij de andere appartementen van deze locatie is dat wel.
- Lisa (10/5): - Love the location with a view of the bay. The quiet and peace were what we were after and Sanctuary Palms delivered!!
- Andrea (10/5): -
- Christopher (10/5): Great views - spacious property - Stayed in the moulin rouge suite. Beautiful views. Spacious rooms. It was great to be able to cook and use the TV streaming facilities provided. Check-in was seamless with the electronic system. Onsite parking was much appreciated. I had a travel data plan so the slow internet was not an issue. Checkout occurred about 20 minutes past the checkout time and yet there was no agitation by the hosts. I would not stay in the moulin rouge suite if you have mobility issues, are older or overweight, due to the bathroom design. The shower is over a bath/spa which is elevated a fair way off the ground. You have to climb on potentially slippery surfaces to get into it.
Wifi connection is practically non-existent but I knew that before going and got my own travel data plan.
- Neil (9/5): -
- Daren (9/5): -
- Ali (9/5): Scrumptous accommodation, very relaxing. - Great locatiion close to town, lovely views, very comfortable. Discovered there was a better way to drive out of the property.
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janine (8/5): It was nice to arrive at our booking with clear and easy instructions for access and to have a property well presented a - Property was beautifully decorated and had all the facilities that we needed (and more).
- Richard (9/5): Superb - This was a great location for us as we were diving with Paihia Dive. The Apartment was bright and airy with great views. Possibly a little over the top for us. The wine and laundry facilities were a great bonus.
- Julian (10/5): Loved it - Awesome Nothing
- Veness (10/5): Relaxing & close to town , but in a peaceful area , located high above Pahia town. Overlooking the sea all the way t - Amazing views & a definite’ Moulin Rouge’ decor… this is a very romantic accommodation.
The furnishings were to be awestruck, very clean & comfortable.
Also, having Netflix etc was a great bonus, as was the fireplace that was ‘ not real’ but gave off great heat & looked fantastic! Nothing at all
- Lily (9/5): Superb -
- Smilez (10/5): Exceptional - Driveway was narrow but algud. amazing view in the garden suite
- Christopher (8/5): Very good - Location
- Donna (9/5): Loved the bay . Glad we took a local cruise as it was fabulous . - The view and little extra touches in the unit plus the spa bath . You really couldn’t walk to town eg if going on a cruise as it was quite steep carrying a backpack if you are older .. Even going out to dinner I didn’t want to walk there and back as going back is fairly steep and you’re not wearing walking gear . Apart from that great .
- Rodney (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): Fabulous apartment with stunning views - Fantastic views, luxuriously appointed apartment nothing
- Kelly (7/5): Good -
- Maree (9/5): Quality apartment. Excellent facilities. - Lovely apartment with a great view from lounge area. We walked to town but a steep hill . Really enjoyed our stay. Quality inclusions Parking was really tight
- Stephanie (10/5): Wonderful place to stay. - Wonderful place to stay, with extra touches to make our stay special.
Accommodation was clean and comfortable with plenty of space, with a balcony offering beautiful views over Bay of Islands. Excellent location for getting to quay fir boat and ferry trips and within walking distance of Waitangi Treaty Grounds. (Although the steep walk back up hill after a day out is quite tough...but view was worth it).
- Lucinda (8/5): Very good -
- Shannon (9/5): Overall great - Really easy key situation with the door, good and friendly communication from hosts, lovely location (but up a very steep hill if you are walking), super comfortable beds and a really good bathroom which the hosts stocked with nice bathroom products. We would have loved to write in the guest book but there were no pens available and we didn’t have one on us either! It was great however not as private as expected as the host walked directly past my window which I thought was looking into a private area - I was getting ready for a wedding and in my underwear so that was a little bit odd (maybe my fault for thinking it was a private area?)
- Margaret (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful apartment..so quiet &, relaxing ..very clean and sharron is an excellent host... There was nothing to dislike here..
.
- Christopher (7/5): Great location great views - Perfect location for visiting Paihia
- francis (10/5): Very nice self-service apartment - We stayed in the "Moulin Rouge" apartment, which was a very well appointed self-service unit with a wonderful view to the Bay of Islands at Pahia.
- Peter (9/5): Luxury & Views in Paihia. - Spotless accommodation and the most comfortable bed of all our stays in NZ. Fabulous view from balcony and luxury bathroom facilities and spacious loungeroom. It was not a problem for us, but the staircase might be steep for someone with mobility issues, and the walk back from the shopping area was also quite steep.
- L (10/5): The front apartment is an absolute delight - in a fabulous location, with incredible view - Apartment 1 is fabulous! - large, beautiful, well-equipped, amazing view, with lots of extra attention to detail! The only thing I’d recommend is softer feather pillows
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (8/5): Relaxing - View was the best thing Access by car is a little difficult. I wouldn’t want to negotiate the car park with a large vehicle. But it’s an easy walk into Paihia
- Andrea (9/5): We had the garden view suite which had lovely views to the bay too, great at sunset and sunrise. -
- Uwe (10/5): Exceptional - Highly recommendable place to stay at the bay of islands. Wonderful, very modern appartment.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was not included. Location was great. Great attention to details. Beautiful view from the balcony
- Alison (9/5): Superb -
- Ryan (9/5): Superb -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Great apartment- perfectly located to explore the area - Lovely well appointed apartment. Very clean and comfortable. Nice decor. Lovely balconies with view of water. Well located close to waterfront. Bedroom was a bit musty
- Elaine (7/5): 3 night stay close to things we did in the Bay of Islands - View from lounge area is beautiful. Bed was comfortable. Apartment smelt damp we when we arrived and throughout our stay. Needed to use dehumidifier most days. Shower didn't drain properly so neede to watch that it wasn't overflowing onto floor,
- Ann (9/5): Great view and peaceful - Great view and a very quiet location. Comfortable bed, very good laundry machines in the cupboard and a lovely large shower Nervous drivers might not like the steep uphill driveway entrance but the view over the Bay of Islands is great because you are up so high. The kitchen area is small and you needed to juggle around when cooking. The oven needs oven gloves otherwise you end up using a hand towel from the bathroom
- Nancy (10/5): Wonderful accommodations in a lovely town. Would highly recommend and if ever return to the north of New Zealand , this - Beautiful property in a fantastic location. Views were stunning. It is definitely a luxury accommodation with great amenities.
Everything provided in the kitchen and bathroom. We had coffee in am and vine in the evening on the balcony looking at gorgeous bay view. Although very close to town, we chose to drive and not walk due to the steep hill the apartment is on and as we are older, the walk back up would be more difficult. Others in the next apartment did walk to town with strollers and did fine. This should not be a deterrent for anyone
- Kate (8/5): Fantastic host support (transported from airport and provided with outstanding accommodation - The wifi access and TV usability
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carmen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (10/5): We loved our stay and would return when next in Paihia. -
- Colin (4/5): - The entire property was covered in scaffolding. It looked like a construction site. Views out of windows and deck were obstructed by the scaffolding.
- Karen (8/5): Very good -
- Neal (9/5): Superb -
- Eva (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mike (9/5): I will go back again! - This is truly a sanctuary. Tranquil setting with the chirp of the birds the only audible sound. Very relaxing setting
- Lucinda (9/5): Superb -
- Felicia (6/5): Pleasant - Beautiful location
- Murray (10/5): Peaceful seclusion above Paihia - Peaceful surroundings away from the main hub of Paihia. Ideal as a base to do all your sightseeing from. Unit well appointed and secluded from the other apartments
- Claire (10/5): A beautiful, stylish apartment in a beautiful area. - This is a stylish, luxurious and well equipped apartment. Offering views of the beautiful town of Paihia, it’s the kind of place that you wish you could spend more time in. We didn’t see the owners or any staff while we were there but they communicated well and our arrival and stay here was extremely comfortable. This was the last place we stayed during our tour of NZ and we certainly felt that we finished it in style. Nothing, although another cooking dish or two (for the oven) would have been appreciated.
- Louise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simon (10/5): Paihia stay - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sanctuary Palms everything is set up to allow for a relaxing stay. The photos really don’t do it justice it is a beautiful home from home.
Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone.
We were a little worried about negative reviews about the parking situation and yes, it is tight but it’s only a short walk to find plenty of free on street parking which we favoured so that our large rental car didn’t cause any bother to other guests. Thank you to Sharron & Paul for sharing this beautiful place with us.
- Michael (8/5): Super -
