- Paige (4/5): Disappointing Experience – Not Worth the 4 Stars - I booked this hotel through Hotels.com and had to make a simple change to my reservation—just shifting the stay by one day. Despite repeated attempts, the hotel never responded to the booking agency and ended up charging me for both nights, without any flexibility or communication. No reimbursement, no rescheduling—just a flat-out refusal to help. Very frustrating and not what I expect from a hotel supposedly rated 4 stars. The room itself was underwhelming. The bed was uncomfortable, making for poor sleep. While the breakfast buffet was good, both lunch and dinner options were bland and forgettable—not the standard you’d expect at this price point. To make matters worse, the rooftop restaurant that’s advertised simply doesn’t exist, which feels like false advertising. The building looks nice from the outside, but it’s nothing worth writing home about. The staff were notably unhelpful, especially compared to the warm, accommodating service I experienced at nearby hotels on the same trip. Bottom line: this hotel is overrated and inflexible, and I won’t be recommending it. There are far better places to stay in the area that actually care about their guests. Save yourself the hassle.

- Yakup (4/5): Not Recommended - The hotel is located on the historical and central part of Zanzibar called Stone Town, so the location is great, nothing to complain. The hotel arranged a taxi pick-up for the airport but the driver was not there, the driver was there but holding another name: Mary Lee. The taxi was very dirty and the driver not very hygenic. We arrived to the hotel with smiling reception but full of unprofessionalism. Me and my brother had booked 2 x Presidential Suites, but even though they had our details they were sloppy and asked unrelevant questions. We got to the rooms, on the 3rd floor next to each other and they were huge and maintained pretty well. As we were very tired we slept directly for 2h and after that wanted to have a shower to refresh up. But the water was not running. Tried to call the reception but either it was busy or no one picked up the phone. Went down in a rush, they said it will come back in 15-20min. It didn't, just imagine you are in a hotel for 12h paying decent amount of money but the water is not running! It was fixed after 2-3h. Another huge issue was internet. It worked well in the lobby but no reception in the rooms! Totally unacceptable in year 2024. We left the hotel around 02:00 AM with another taxi driver the hotel had arranged but this time when he started the car, on the android screen of the taxi an adult movie started to play. He quickly changed it to a muslim prayer. To sum up; historical nice building, But I had expected much more...

- Abiy (10/5): - The Dhow Palace was a great place to stay, convenient to everything that Stone Town has to offer. The staff is amazing, very friendly and super helpful in organizing taxis and tours, and recommending activities as needed. The breakfast was also plentiful with varying options on a daily basis, unlike some places that offer the same exact things everyday. Housekeeping also came to the rooms on a daily basis to spray against mosquitos as a safety precaution. This was out first time in Zanzibar and we were there as a group for a couple of days. We wanted to experience different types of accomodations, and also had booked an Airbnb for a part of our stay, a decision we immediately regretted once we saw both places. Even after checking out, we still ended going back to Dhow Palace almost on a daily basis for one reason or another for the remainder of our stay in Zanzibar. Highly recommend.

The hotel is not 'modern' but has all the conditions needed, has a lift, and room was well cleaned and comfortable. The fridge had 2 complimentary waters. They organised a taxi to the airport ( 10 usd) and prepared 2 boxes of breakfast has we needed to leave hotel at 6h45am.

And never resolved the problem. We were told we had a nice room. The room wasn't sound proofed, no safe, no pool view, ac never got cold at its lowest temperature. I didn't get what i paid for, I paid more for a room and was given a cheaper room. And the hotel did nothing about it except say sorry. Would NOT recommended this hotel.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - 5 star staff! Excellent service from EVERY member of the staff. Spacious rooms and free breakfast. Only negatives i can think of are slow wifi and wall window AC units which can be underpowered. Mosquito net on the bed was a plus!

- M (8/5): - If you are looking for a place in stone Town close to everything this is a great one to be in. Breakfast is great and you get a few options. The bigish fridge in the room is pretty nice to have to store water and drinks over the hot days. Staff are helpful and courteous. WiFi is decent depending on where your room is situated. Good security standards and try the restaurant currys they are surprisingly good compared to the graphic looks of the menu ;)

I was allowed to check in early to my large room with a balcony overlooking the pool. Breakfast was very good and I appreciated the art in the public areas and the smiles of the staff.

- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a beautiful hotel in all respects. The furnishings throughout were museum quality. The rooms were very attractive & airy. The staff was extremely helpful. The location was central to the main attractions. The only negative is that the WIFI sucks. We’re not sure if this is true in Zanzibar or just the hotel but we were essentially without WIFI.
- Helene (10/5): Dhow Palace Hotel - Wonderful stay at Dhow Palace Hotel. Booked a triple room for family of three and the room was lovely. Bathroom was a little smelly, but not off-putting and smell did not permeate into bedroom. Room 25 very quiet and dark at night. Breakfast spread very impressive.
- PATRICIA (10/5): - Wonderful 2 day stay in Stone Town at the beginning of our holiday in Zanzibar excellent hotel but, if you are a sensitive sleeper you may find road noise at little disturbing but traffic usually calms down after 10pm. Beds were extremely comfortable but, ladies clothes storage space maybe more limited than you might be used to. Great Hotel fabulous friendly helpful staff would highly recommend it
- Jane2019 (8/5): - We loved the old colonial charm of Dhow Palace Hotel and the many interesting, historical artifacts on display on the main floor. The hotel is also situated in a central location near restaurants and stores. One problem is parking for taxis - one had to walk with luggage along a back ally to get into the hotel upon arrival. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was always good with many choices. Our room was a bit small for two people as was the bathroom. Hairdryer was not really operable and should be replaced with something more modern. Lack of electric outputs testified to the age of the hotel. Otherwise it was an enjoyable experience.

- Shay (10/5): Gem of a spot, excellent location - Charming hotel in a beautiful heritage building. The rooms are small but wonderful. The only drawback is that the front desk is not all that attentive and so it is necessary to remind them a few times (!) that you are expecting a taxi collection / visitors, etc.

Could venture out for dinner and not worry about losing light and getting lost in the skinny, twisting, offshoots in the bowels of Stonetown. Had only booked one day in Stonetown, as an extension to our east coast beach time. To do again would have done at least two full days to give time for excursion to prison island, such a great place to stay! The hotel was clean, with a comfortable bed, friendly and helpful staff, ample breakfast and wonderful period furnishings. A centrally located pool - that I would only have used if I was a guy due to the predominantly Muslim culture. Would stay there again in a heartbeat - and do highly recommend.

- American (6/5): - The good: Dhow Palace has quite a bit of charm and historic value. It is an old Arabian style hotel that almost feels like a museum. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly lifting my heavy bags up the stairs and being careful not to drag them through the dirt in Stone Town. They even provided my friend and I with a delicious hibiscus juice welcome drink. The bad: The room had a very bad odor from the poor plumbing and septic system in the bathroom. The blanket on one of the beds was stained with food. There were tons of ants and mosquitoes. I actually got about 3 mosquito bites although the staff tried their best by spraying the room. The room was also quite dusty. Not quite the relaxing hotel experience I was looking for, but it's certainly worth a walk through for its its historic charm.

- DAVID J (8/5): Lodging in Stone Town - It’s a hotel that is, in my humble opinion just about a three star, the wi-fi only works in certain parts of the hotel and the shower has both pressure and drainage issues (you are left standing in shower water) but it’s got lots of old world charm, retains its character (this place goes back to the 1500’s) and has a lovely pool. It’s a bit like a bigger version of a riad you could find in Marrakesh. The staff were great, extremely helpful and it was clean, comfortable and the air conditioning was extremely functional. If you want 5 star this is not the place for you but if you want a good, honest and comfortable lodging then this establishment should be something to consider.

- Roland (8/5): Beautiful Boutique Hotel - In the Heart if Stonetown. Lovely boutique hotel. Very clean and excellent staff. Very good breakfast. Swimming pool is awesome as well. As when you always travel, bring earplugs. You are right downtown. Muslim prayers at 5 am through loudspeakers and happy roosters break the morning silence.

There was NO WIFI in the room at all - so I had to sit in the sweltering heat of the hallway to use the internet. The air conditioner does not allow you to set the temperature, on medium ac i was too hot and on high I was too cold. I genuinely liked the place though and if not for the wifi I would stay here again.

- Loren (10/5): Great option in Stone Town - Fantastic location a block from the beach in Stone Town -- close to everything but in a quiet neighbourhood, which not all of Stone Town is. Gorgeous architecture and furnishings, and the pool in the courtyard is great after a hot day.
- j (10/5): Nice hotel with character - Our stay was flowless. Note that the hotel has no parking but they allow parking in the sister hotel "tembo hotel" nearby (within 50 meters of hotel). The breakfast is varied and good. The hotel is well located within walking distabce of everything of interest in downtown.

The room was very clean and well maintained. The only slightly negative point was the intermittent wi-fi. The overall experience was a very enjoyable stay.
