Guest Reviews

- Heidi (10/5): Authentic Jamaican cultural experience in a lovely, comfortable, family-owned and operated lodge - Above all, the hosts are what makes the Pimento Lodge an amazing place to stay. Lloyd and Kate are wonderful, friendly, interesting and genuine people who truly made our family feel at home. They made wonderful breakfasts every day and also accommodated us with delicious dinners made from local ingredients several evenings upon our request. While not brand new, the property offers a stunning view of the forest and ocean, a beautiful and clean pool, and all the necessary comforts for a relaxing vacation in a much less crowded and more authentic place to experience Jamaican culture and nature than the resort towns to the west. Portland, Long Bay and the Pimento Lodge were everything we were hoping for while exploring Jamaica. Also—there are two beautiful owls that live in a tree on the property!!! Portland is a 4 hour drive from Montego Bay where we landed and there are not a lot of food options besides stands in the immediate vicinity of the hotel (most only take cash, and the nearest ATM is in Port Antonio, so take out plenty!). That said, Kate and Lloyd more than made up for any minor inconveniences with their hospitality, friendship and amazing cooking!
- ROLANDBTRAVEL (10/5): - Peace and view
- Verdoliva (7/5): Recomendadissimo - O casal que nos recepcionou foi maravilhoso. Cuidaram de tudo com muito carinho e simpatia. As instalações merecem uma atualização.
- Christopher (9/5): A peaceful and relaxing place to stay in Portland with amazing views. - The Pimento lodge exceeded my expectations. It is a very quiet and peaceful place to stay, set high up with outstanding views. The room and facilities were clean, and the Superior King Room with Terrace and Sea View was magnificant. The hosts Lloyd and Kate were very hospitable and friendly, who took pride in their lodge. The Pimento Lodge is definately a place to stay if you are looking to get away from the crowds and just want to relax. It's only a 20 minute drive to Frenchman Cove one of my favourite beaches in Jamaica. The road leading up to the property. But it's definately driveable and not a big issue. Don't let it put you off visiting.
- Michelle (6/5): Boring - The smidge of ocean view Lack of TV in room, spotty internet on day one or anything else to do. The property is soooo far out of the area of Port Antonio and the surroundings can be dark for tourists. As a vegan I struggled to find places to eat. I was the only one at the property. This wasn’t what I was expecting at all so was severely disappointed with this “vacation”
- Olari (10/5): - The Pimento Lodge is the perfect place as a base for spending few days in Portland and explore the surrondings. We (family of 4) found this area more interesting and unspoilt than further to the west, near Ochio Rios. The hotel is up the hill, away from the main road, providing stunning views over the sea. The rooms are comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. Local pool was clean - super good for a morning dip.
What made the place special were the hosts - Kate and Lloyd. Besides looking after you, providing the breakfast (made of local ingredients) and cooking a dinner (if you wish), they are the best to learn about Jamaica, it's history and traditions.

- Sophie (8/5): Fantastique ! - La quiétude des lieux
La gentillesse de Lloyd et Kate
- Libby (9/5): We had a wonderful time at The Pimento Lodge! Lloyd and Kate were the most lovely and welcoming host - We had a wonderful time at The Pimento Lodge! Lloyd and Kate were the most lovely and welcoming hosts. Our breakfast both mornings was delicious and the property was so beautiful. This is truly a hidden gem!

- Lavinia (10/5): Superb - Lloyd was a wonderful host. Our stay was so very relaxing
- P (8/5): Very good -
- Angela (9/5): Superb - Very spacious room, lovely view. The complex is located in a beautiful garden – yes with also piment trees.
- Marcia (9/5): Pimento Lodge - A hidden gem, that blends authentic Jamaican charm with warm hospitality and breathtaking scenery.
The accommodations are simple but comfortable, with a rustic feel.
Room clean, airy and equipped with essentials.
Highlight was the home-cooked meals made with local and home grown ingredients.
The hosts were friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Which demonstrates that they take pride in making guests feel at home.!
Thank you Kate, Lloyd and Dionne for such a. Lovely stay.
We will be back!
- Allen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Allen (10/5): Best Resort in Portland. - What an amazing facility with the best hosts ever! It is a family ran resort with all the feel of home and relaxation. Mr. Lloyd was the engine that never quits, you can tell he’s passionate about his resort. We got the old school no problem man vibe everytime we asked for something. And the view, the view was amazing! Sit out on the porch and look and the beautiful well kept garden or by pool and get a glimps of the ocean view. Either way you’re gonna fall in love this place like we did.
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional - We had an excellent stay, the hosts were very kind and helpful, with great tips for local attractions. I would highly recomend a stay here. If you are driving from Port Antonio the road is bad after Boston Bay, it will take at least 30 minutes from there. In the other direction the road is bad all the way to Morant Bay. Lloyd was hopeful the road works would be fininshed by September in which case it will be an easy drive, but be warned, it takes a long time to get out of Long Bay at the moment (which is in no way the hotels fault).
- Carol Chambers (10/5): - The owners were attentive to our needs and provided us with authentic Jamaican meals, referrals to local sights, and history and current events of Jamaica. We felt like we were visiting relatives.
- Shandy (10/5): A relaxing break in a beautiful location - The property is set in the most beautiful garden. The rooms are individually handcrafted by the owners. Lloyd, Kate and their small team look after the property and their guests very well. It is a perfect base to visit many things but also a great place to relax. Nothing
- Damion (10/5): - Kate and Lloyd were fantastic hosts with a beautiful peaceful property. We look forward to visiting again soon :)
- Rhiannon (10/5): If you like to stay in places with character and heart then you’ll love it here - don’t hesitate to book! - A stunningly beautiful and quirky property ran by Kate and Lloyd who are warm and wonderful hosts. The breakfast of freshly picked fruit followed by eggs was a perfect start to every day and evening meals can be requested and I can confirm are also very tasty. We will always remember sitting on our balcony listening to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore below combined with the chorus of tree frogs and crickets chirping from the lovingly planted gardens of the property - heaven! The roads to the property were challenging but don’t let this put you off as if you take your time you’ll be fine and I believe the resurfacing will be completed this year anyway.
- Brian (9/5): Fabulous authentic experience with lovely people in a lovely setting. - Self-styled Shangri-La, hand built by host, Lloyd, and run be his lovely wife, Kate, of some 40 years and daughter Dionne who assists via phone from UK. A little in need of maintenance.
- Tryggvi (8/5): Very enjoyable experience in the most beautiful parish of Jamaica. - The room was very good and the view superior. Long Bay is very beautiful and peaceful place. People in Long Bay were very friendly, Dinner more expensive than expected and experienced other place where we stayed in Jamaica. There was considerable litter on the beautiful beach.
- Tobias (10/5): Great stay, very homely and friendly hosts - Amazing host and staff
Very spacious and clean room
Very secluded and homely feel Not for people with impaired mobility issues, lots of stairs.
Very secluded, dont expect to be in the middle of town
- Matthew (8/5): - If you are looking to experience the real Jamaica, rather than an all-inclusive fantasy version, this is the place for you. Everything about Pimento Lodge is genuine: the lovely proprietors, the Jamaican cuisine, the ambience and the voluble crickets.
- Fernanda (10/5): Exceptional - The place is beautiful! The couple that owns the place are amazing! Thoughtful, kind and friendly!
It was an exquisite experience!
- Suzanne (4/5): Not what we'd - The onsite proprietors are really lovely people - very welcoming and kind. They try their best but need more staffing and support. The location and property is beautiful but it is in a remote area. Just one restaurant in easy driving distance. I had confirmed a booking for two deluxe king rooms. We received one modest room with a queen bed and an adjacent dormitory-style room that was as spare as could be. The booking agent kept insisting that was my request - but it was not what I booked! Neither room remotely compared to their larger rooms on a higher floor that might meet the deluxe definition. Booking agent acknowledged the difference but only gave a modest discount. Do not expect a "boutique" hotel. There are no toiletries, the breakfast is minimal with no menu or choices, no towels by the pool, there is no onsite restaurant or food, the shower is a makeshift handheld, the toilet flooded, etc. Booking agent acknowledged that upgrades are needed.
- Jennifer (10/5): Magically perfect! - I had such a magical time at the resort, the owners were lovely people and so kind, caring and welcoming. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. I am fully plant based and there was maximum effort to create the most delicious breakfasts with the most natural and fresh Caribbean food, some even gown within the grounds of the resort itself. The rooms are so clean and comfy and the resort is a dream with such beautiful nature and is super quite and safe. The white sandy beach is a 5 min walk at the bottom of the hill and close by is so many amazing authentic places to eat. Looking forward to going back soon. Nothing
- Christopher (9/5): Superb - The location is simply spectacular. There is an incredible view of the ocean, the grounds are beautifully curated with a diversity of flowers and fruit trees. You feel right at home and carefree on the property. The sunrise and sunset are simply stunning. The staff is incredibly friendly. Our meals here were really delicious and they accommodated one member of our party who has a very restrictive diet. The hosts are so approachable, very responsive, open, fun and gracious. The only real issue was the inability of stable POS machine for purchases. Our group would have purchased a lot more if there was a secure method of payment. The host did mention that they are working on this, so we are excited for this development for our next visit.
- Heather (10/5): Warm hospitality and a great location - Lovely hidden location up in the hills above Long Bay beach which is a lovely little coconut tree lined beach. From Long Bay you can take a route taxi for 300 per person to the many sights on the road to Port Antonio including Blue Lagoon, Boston Jerk Centre and the beautiful Frenchman’s Cove. We organised a driver through the hotel to take us on some day tours which were unmissable experiences.
The rooms all have balconies looking over the ocean, they’re spacious and a lot better than the photos indicate. But the highlight of Pimento Lodge are Lloyd and Kate who are wonderful hosts. Warm hospitality and wonderful home cooking for breakfast and dinner each day. Pimento Lodge totally met our expectations.
- Steven (8/5): Great base for east Jamaica - Lovely big room with sea views. Our hosts Lloyd & his wife were charming and looked after us well. A great place to stay to visit Reach Falls. Bar / restaurant / pool area could do with a makeover, it feels a bit tired.
- Sonya (10/5): Exceptional - My family and I stayed at Pimento Lodge for 8 days In January 2024 - what a wonderful experience. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, I found myself exploring the gardens and watching/listening to the birds each day. The view of the ocean from the lodge's high vantage point was a great start to each day and the ocean breeze at night made for some excellent sleeps. We had hours of fun in the pool with our 4-year old daughter and enjoyed our breakfasts each morning which included superb coffee, fruits, and local dishes such as ackee and saltfish. The walk into town each day was a great way to see Long Bay, a beautiful area with a very mellow vibe. Above all, we got to spend time with the owners of Pimento Lodge, Llyod and Kate, a very sweet and loving couple who made us feel right at home.
Kea, Seth and Sonya miss you. We will be back one day!
- Cliff (8/5): Secret rural treat. - Hosts and location utterly faultless. Incredible views. As the tap water was not drinkable, bottled water could have been provided in the rooms for free.
- Reza (8/5): Lovely place to relax and recharge! - Spectacular views and great facilities! We went for a swim in the pool every morning and then enjoyed a homemade breakfast made by the lovely hosts Lloyd and Kate!
The hosts are an amazing lovely couple who helped us with activities exploring the area and cooked for us every evening!
Definitely recommend to stay here if you are in Jamaica and want to get away from crowded touristy places
- Anonymous (10/5): We loved our stay. We were with family and friends traveling around the island and we all agreed this was our favorite p - Lloyd and Kate were amazing hosts! They were incredibly helpful arranging transportation and making sure we were comfortable. Home cooked meals were amazing. It was very quiet and relaxing if you want to get away from the craziness of the tourist areas.
- Bruna (10/5): De most incredible experience ❤️ - Our stay at Pimento Lodge was absolutely wonderful. Mr. Llod and Mrs. Kate are such kind and attentive individuals, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay with their interesting and gentle conversations. The entire staff is helpful and friendly, the accommodations are impeccably clean, and the overall infrastructure is fantastic. The pool area and rooms offer stunning ocean views, and the surroundings are embraced by nature. We highly recommend this place! We hope to see you again soon! Nada
- Irie (10/5): Amazing view and lovely hosts! - The view from the property was amazing! The rooms are nice, clean and cozy. The hosts were so kind and gave our group a warm welcome! The vibes of this place are just lovely and very familiar.
- Jennifer (10/5): - We loved our stay Pimento Lodge! It's stunningly beautiful place. The owners put a lot of care into the property and it shows. They also put their hearts into it. We thoroughly enjoyed conversations with the lovely hosts and missed them when we left.
- Gilman (8/5): A fascinating insight into Jamaican island life. - Beautifully designed, good pool, delightful hosts and fabulous views. Quiet and safe. Excellent varied breakfasts. The property is built on a hillside overlooking Long Bay set in a beautiful tropical garden. It is quite remote without many other restaurants or tourist facilities within walking distance. Our hosts were happy to cook for us in the evening, often using food grown in their garden. The roads between Kingston and Port Antonio are not for the faint hearted.
- Irene (9/5): Superb - The kindest most sweetest hosts, we were taken great care of. We all enjoyed our stay at pimento.
Thank you very much
- Purvi (10/5): - Kate and Lloyd are incredible hosts and do all they can to make you feel at home. They are wonderful storytellers and caring people -- we loved meeting them and spending time with them. Their property is delightful for any nature lover. We spent hours birdwatching and taking in all the fruits and plants on site. The facilities are clean -- and also rustic (i.e. not fancy in a modern way). It's also a shame -- and not the hosts' fault -- that the road to get to the lodge is so beat up. Pimento Lodge is a nature-lover's paradise and we are so grateful for our time in this slice of heaven.
- David (9/5): A very good choice for anyone in this less visited end of the island - Almost everything about Pimento Lodge met or exceeded our expectations. Lloyd and Kate are excellent and knowledgeable hosts, their daughter Dionne was also there and it was a pleasure to meet and talk with her. The food was good and the location and lodge surroundings were also very good. The meals and drinks are a little pricey, which no doubt reflects the lack of alternatives in Long Bay and around.
- Thompson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hazel (7/5): Peaceful location with easy access to Long Bay beach and a - Amazing views and coastline. Delicious excellent vegetarian food and fish, much of the produce grown organically on the property’s grounds. More information about property and area would have been useful. Supper is $35 with fish and $25 for vegetarians. Long trip from Kingston on windy roads over the mountains or the patchy tarmac on the coastal road.
- Sandra (7/5): Lovely property, superb hosts and hospitality. Shame about the WiFi - Scenery and location was wonderful. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Lack of access to WiFi as when booking one of my criteria for choosing Pimento Lodge was free WiFi. Having limited access to the one dongle in the property meant we were cut from communicating with family and with no TV in the room, there was no alternative entertainment on the property.
- Brittney (10/5): Exceptional -
- Teka (5/5): The owners are really nice people. The property is clean and the rooms well kept. - Breakfast was straight from the fruit trees on property (breadfruit and ackee) it’s was delicious and Ms Kate went the extra mile to have them fried for me. The view was nice. Staff friendly. Room was clean and good enough space for two people. Breakfast could have had more variety to choose from. There was no WIFI, no TV, not much to do on property and the attractions are quit a distant away. No stores or fast food close enough to the property. The roads to get the property are terrible not recommended for pregnant women, people who suffer from migraines or medical issues because it will take you a long while to get to the nearest hospital. If want to get away from the outside world this is the place to go.
- Thomas (10/5): - Kate and Llyod proved to be excellent hosts. The property was as advertised.
Fresh ingredients harvested from the property made meals special.
I would say the property pulls you away form high tech devices to a place you can just relax.
- Hazel (10/5): - An amazing location
Property well maintained with beautiful artwork around the place. Rooms tasteful, clean and comfortable.Beautiful views and peaceful spaces.
We enjoyed the breakfasts which was provided depending on what’s available.
The hosts are wonderful people who made us feel at home and were lovely company too. Lloyd plays an eclectic mix of tunes at the bar : )
We will certainly be back to Pimento Lodge when in Jamaica.
- Dennis (10/5): - Throughly enjoyed my 4 nights stay at Pimento Lodge with my siblings. Lloyd & Kate were wonderful hosts well supported by friendly staff. I would definitely come back and more importantly recommend this place. Dennis xx
- Wayne (10/5): - The property is an excellent Ecotourism spot with a very friendly and attentive staff and ownership. The owners are very responsive and they are quite friendly. I would definitely recommend a stay!
- Marcia Hayles (2/5): - You people need to take down the pictures of the resort, nothing of that sort is not there, i was booked to stay there, i couldn't the place is dirty, even the pool, no internet, the room smells old, mosquitoes were present in the room, as soon as went in the roommosquitoes were biting me, i had to leave didn't spend a night, nothing is like what they show on the site. You guys needs to do better.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Pimento Lodge is a hidden retreat, albeit, a rough diamond, offering solace & serenity. A quiet place to reflect & refresh away from everyday hustle & bustle. Hosts, Kate & Lloyd are friendly & relaxed. Rooms are spacious and clean. The grounds are kept beautiful & the sea views are breath-taking. Meals are deliciously prepared on request from local produce grown on site. However, it does help to eat out in one of the many Port Antonio restaurants from time to time, as the hotel food is very expensive. This hotel would greatly benefit from some upgrades, as well as some added features, in services and amenities such as, access to WIFI, a TV in the room or a radio, as the rooms are very sparse. There were issues with the AC and water supply. A few tea bags on Day 1 of arrival would have been an added touch to wake up to, as well as complimentary continental breakfast should have been included in the price. I should add that due to the Pandemic restrictions, my partner and I chose this hotel for advertised specifications namely, WIFI and added comforts, unfortunately, these were lacking. However, Kate & Lloyd have assured us that they are addressing the issues of no WIFI and cable TV. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, provided the facilities and services have been greatly upgraded. Thank you Kate & Lloyd.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great small lodge, great ower, quiet, serene on the hillside.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Pimento Lodge is very unique. It has many levels of outdoor spaces built into the mountain and lovely furnishings. The food was wonderful and the staff very friendly, courteous and friendly.
I felt very relaxed looking over the bay as the ocean breezes gently caressed me and fell asleep easily to the sounds from the gardens.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Jamaica has a wealth of hidden gems for the inquisitive tourist. The Pimento Lodge is one of those priceless jewels that offers far more than just an alternative to the all-inclusive experience. Huge rooms with comfortable beds, air conditioning, and glorious views of the Caribbean Sea are just the beginning. Katherine and Lloyd are superb hosts, excellent cooks, and go out of their way to insure you have perfect stay and want to come back.
For the experienced traveler, the Pimento Lodge is conveniently located near Boston - the home of Jamaican Jerk, the famous Blue Lagoon, and rafting on the Rio Grande. The Pimento Lodge is also a perfect hideaway for a writer, screenplay producer, or editor to start, finish, or polish a written work of art. The peaceful atmosphere lends itself to creativity at the highest level.
Complete with a large, clean pool and exotic garden, the Pimento Lodge has everything you need to refresh, unwind, and give yourself over to the natural life. When you’ve grown tired of the same “make believe” Jamaica, book a few nights or a few weeks in the Pimento Lodge and experience the “real” Jamaica for a change.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place is beautiful and the staff is delightful. Pool and views are amazing!
- Robert (10/5): - The Hotel offers great rooms with water and mountain views, food, and most of all Kate and Lloyd 2 wonderful people. The sad part was having to leave after only 10 days. Enjoy !!!
- H (10/5): Beautiful location, quiet for a relaxing holiday - Situated in Long Bay high on a hill looking out across Long Bay.
Wonderful opportunity to watch an amazing sunrise if you rise early.
Llyoyd and Kathy Edwards warm and welcoming hosts with a small team of staff.
Beautiful surrounding, nature at its best, bird song , flower and fauna.
Natural swimming pool although a short walk to the local beach.
Warmly welcomed by the local community
- Nikki (8/5): Peaceful Stay, in this tuck-away spot - I love the quietness and tranquility of this hidden gem in the Portland Area.
The low key atmosphere is great for resting and offer a difference from the larger scale resort type atmosphere.
The workers were very friendly and the owner was very amicable and accommodating.
Definitely would return.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good hotel in quiet location - Located up a steep hill about 20 minute drive from Port Antonio. Very friendly staff who offer a good breakfast and evening meal. Pool and bar facilities good. Internet can be slow and cable TV not yet installed but was coming soon.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel, near waterm falls and beach. - I upgraded to the full breakfast. The best accisaltfish I ever had!
