Guest Reviews
- carolef825 (10/5): Anniversary trip to Ferndale - We enjoyed staying at Redwood Suites as part of our 46th anniversary trip. We were in the Williams Creek suite. This is in a one story building with parking right in front of the room/suite. The suite consisted of a separate bedroom with a very comfortable king size bed and a living room/kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with plates, pans etc. The TV channels were good in the living room. The bathroom was nice although some people might consider the shower stall fairly small. The suites are located right in the center of Ferndale, a short walk from the Victorian Inn where a continental breakfast was served to us with delicious cherry muffins, oatmeal etc and good coffee. We were able to park the car and walk all around Ferndale and to shops and restaurants. The suite was very clean and comfortable. It's also only a short drive to the ocean (5 miles ?) at Centerville Park. It was good value as we had a whole suite with full kitchen including a gas stove and full size refrigerator. It was super quiet at night and felt very safe. I would say it's a great, more modern place to stay in Ferndale for those of us who don't like staying in Victorian hotels. I recommend it.
- William (10/5): - Clean room, quiet, great staff. Would definitely stay there again!
- 220sheryll (10/5): Perfect location and friendly hosts. - Our one bedroom apartment was clean, comfortable, and aptly furnished. Dinner at the Victorian Inn was very good and reasonably priced. It was perfectly located for walking the town center. We had a lovely stay.
- melodys908 (10/5): One bedroom unit is comfortable and spacious - Our one bedroom unit with a kitchen was spacious and comfortable. The location was quiet and within walking distance of everything in Ferndale. Breakfast is muffins and wrapped cookies.
- jordanpP4375GI (8/5): my very own little apartment - Everyone was very friendly and helpful. My room was like a little apartment. I felt like it was a Home away from Home. The only suggestion I would make to improve, is to have more cookware in the kitchenette to make it easier to use the oven. Apart from that, the price was very fair for the experience. My favorite part was the walkability to the charming Main Street area.
- Raymond (6/5): Okay stay - Cute little place but smelled so musty. No air conditioning but they provide a fan. Furniture was not in the best condition. The bathroom was super old and the shower stall was so little. The bed was the best part... so very comfortable.
- Geralyn (6/5): - We did not know it was a motel. The pictures online showed a hotel. We were given a room in between a staff occupied “office” and the laundry room. The outside light shined inside our bedroom. People walked in and out of the “office” until after 11pm. Since it was a motel, traffic was very loud. I never would have booked the room if I had known it was a motel.
- Mark (5/5): It was OK - location was fine and the town was walkable I did not think they still had shag carpet in a room for rent.
- Dan (10/5): - If you love old America, this is your place. The hotel, place, people everything about this place I loved. Don’t go if you don’t like old America.
- Soledad (10/5): - Had a later check in then originally expected.
Manager made it convenient for us and even made accommodations for an extra bed at the last minute. Couldn’t have had a more perfect check in. The continental breakfast was very enjoyable, thank you . We fell in love with the historical town of Ferndale !
- ALAN (6/5): - The best part of this location is its proximity to town. That is true for every place in town, though, since the area is so small. The continental breakfast at the Victorian Inn was a nice set up with quite a few choices. We had lunch on Main Street at a Es Tuyas. Their fish tacos were very good.
- Steve (9/5): A beautiful facility and in a beautiful location. It doesn’t get much better than this - Th facilities were excellent, the location and quality superb! The lounge closed way to early! The room rate a bit on the high side!
- S2809SYstevel (10/5): Ferndale at it’s Best! - A very well kept beautiful place on the California North Coast. Well stocked and appointed. A quiet place to stay! The town of Ferndale is very worth while to spend a few days. The beautiful California North Coast is a short drive away
- Darci (10/5): -
- Timothy (10/5): - Great room. Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Dorothy (8/5): -
- marymI9919GX (10/5): Quiet & Quaint - The room was perfect for us. Nice quaint quiet motel. We loved it.
Ground floor room, parked right in front, was so easy to load and unload the car.
Nice comfortable king bed, lovely shower, nice fluffy towels, kitchenette with Keurig coffee maker. Living room with couch.
Older establishment however it was very clean and comfortable.
Easy walking to the restaurants and shopping. Everything you need within a few steps, drug store, grocery store, shopping.
Checking in at the Victorian Inn was easy thanks to Jason!
We will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Ferndale.
Great breakfast at Pappa Joes and yummy ice cream at Patches Pastries. Highly recommend both.
- myshgsh1 (6/5): Great town, shame about lack of evening meals - Friendly welcome. Clean rooms, but it did smell a bit of damp. Massive let down was,ack of evening meal. The whole town shuts down on a Wednesday so although the parent owner is the lovely looking Victoria’s Hotel, they don’t do evening meals Wednesdays. Only a pizza restaurant open in the whole town. If I’d known that, I wouldn’t have booked. We needed up having to drive to a nearby town to eat and Uber prices were stupid. Breakfast was really tasty, nice to get coffee in proper china cups. ,massive fridge and kitchen, the town of Ferndale is beautiful. Perfect, iconic town.
- Cynthia (1/5): -
- beth_christensen0313 (10/5): Consistently clean, comfortable, warm and welcoming!! - I go to Ferndale to visit my nephew during the summer and in the winter for the Christmas Tractor Parade every year. I always stay at the Redwood Suites as the accommodations are comfortable, consistently clean and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. I look forward to stay there when I visit Ferndale. High recommendation!!
- G430HRbryans (10/5): My Ferndale Base - If anyone happens to be exploring the Ferndale area, I highly recommend contacting Jason Brasel, owner/innkeeper at the Victorian Inn, to establish a base camp. Linda and I just spent three days there, meeting up with old friends and finding out why the area appears in so many movies.
- Glenn (8/5): Enjoyable. Close to a very charming town. - Location, friendly staff Room smelled a little musty.
- Revlucky (2/5): Stay In Eureka - We checked in at the Inn, then drove a short distance to the “Redwood Suites.” The building is an old-style motel format, with parking in front of each unit. It desperately needs a refresh.
Upon entering our “suite,” we were overcome with the musty, unpleasant smell. This place looks like it hasn’t been updated since the 1950s. The bathroom is miniscule, with very dated fixtures. The decor is dowdy, everything is brown or shades of. It has shag-like carpeting. (When have you last seen that?).
We went out looking for a place to eat in Ferndale. There are a few restaurants in town, but all were closed for the day except one, and it was essentially a bar. We were forced to drive to Eureka to eat, and in doing so passed a number of modern chain hotels. After dinner, we secured a very clean, pleasant room in Eurkea for the same price as charged by the Redwood Suites, returned to Ferndale to get our stuff and departed. We never slept at this facility. We could not have managed the smell overnight, even though we had to pay for the “suite.”
- Y3860SFgloriac (10/5): Redwood Suites is Perfect for Ferndale - We spent one night in May at the Redwood Suites in the Fleener Creek Suite 2. Redwood Suites is operated by the folks at the Victorian Inn and is located a short distance down Ocean Ave. We loved our Fleener Creek Suite. This wonderful unit consisted of a roomy living room with a flat screen TV; a dining area; a separate, generous bedroom with comfortable, king size bed; a tiny but complete kitchen; and a bathroom with a shower. It was very clean, freshly painted, and lovingly decorated. This unit, like most of the other units, is on the ground floor with parking just outside the front door. We could have called our Suite home and moved in permanently. A lovely breakfast at the Victorian Inn dining room is included in the rate.
The Victorian Inn was renovating its kitchens and the manager sent us to the Ivanhoe Hotel for dinner. The dinner there was delicious, and the servers helpful and friendly. Ferndale itself is a magical place, and Redwood Suites is just steps away from exploring the village shops and restaurants.
- Q2545LDsj (10/5): Great location and experience! We would stay here again! - Great location, easily walkable to all Ferndale has to offer. Such a great town! The room was large and very comfortable. The scones in the morning were the best I have ever had! The restaurant next door was delicious and highly recommended as well. Everyone was very friendly.
- DeAnne (6/5): - Clean, but no carpet or needs bigger rugs. Bare tile was cold. Shower didn't have very hot water. Bed was comfortable.
- Mary (8/5): Excellent customer service. - The owner is all about making sure you’re comfortable. Very accommodating and serves up delicious coffee and muffins! We were pleasantly impressed by the Victorian Inn and Ferndale. We would definitely stay here again.
- Anita (4/5): - Room needed a good scrub and had a musty odor.
- Gillian (5/5): Friendly staff, a snack box..not breakfast, musty room, should be a bit cheaper than it is. - The location in Ferndale is great. You are in walking distance to everything you could need. Parking is great, you get a spot right in front of your room. The provided breakfast isn’t really breakfast. It was a croissant and some snacks. Nice, but not a breakfast. Unfortunately when we booked, we were under the impression the room had a kitchen and there was no kitchen. Just a microwave and mini fridge. Not a great surprise. Lastly the room had a really musty smell, as if the last guest was a 90 year old that emptied a bottle of perfume. We are pretty low maintenance people, we were happy that is was clean but it definitely should have been a cheaper stay for what it was.
- Sheila (8/5): Very good -
- Janette (6/5): - This was a basic drive up lodge style hotel. It was very basic, but did have nearby access to a Main Street with shopping, restaurants and even live music. Nothing fancy. Just a basic room.
- Stan (10/5): - Close to everything
- Roving245910 (10/5): Redwood Suites Ferndale CA - We were extremely pleased with the accommodation and its cleanliness. Although we weren't expecting a room with a complete kitchen and appliances this was a bonus for our short stay. Families looking for an extended stay may find this to their liking. The motel was just one half a block from Main street Ferndale which has a number of places to eat all within walking distance. I highly recommend a stay at Redwood Suites if staying in Ferndale.
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- S (8/5): - They advertized a full breakfast, but what you got was a boxed breakfast consisting of a yogurt and a croissant. Diddapointing.
- SuzAnne (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay. Perfect place to stay and park. Walking to town was wonderful.
- K5633WOjeremyg (10/5): Redwood Suites are SWEET! 😍 - Redwood Suites in Ferndale was perfect for us! Just a half block away from main street and all the shops. We thought it was wonderfully priced for the very large accommodations. It felt more like a lived-in 1 bedroom apartment than some stuffy hotel room. We will be coming back! We met the owners at the Victorian Inn and there are wonderful people also! Book your stay here and you wont be sorry!

- Toonsarah (8/5): Comfortable and convenient - The room wasn't fancy but it was well-equipped and clean. The bed was comfortable, wifi worked well and the location at the top of Ferndale's Main Street is convenient. We could park right outside after checking in at the nearby Victorian Inn where we had a friendly welcome. Breakfast is included but is a 'to go' bag amd not available until 8.00 AM. We didn’t bother with it so I can't comment on the quality. Instead we went to the Mind's Eye cafe a block away which I CAN recommend!
- Julie (7/5): Good for an overnight stay - The motel is located right off the main street of Ferndale, which made it easy to walk around. I felt very safe in the room and while walking around the town. The bed was comfortable and it was a big room. The facilities are a bit dated.
- Marilyn (8/5): Modest motel - Its a modest motel. Room was large. Bed seemed old. Pillows definitely old.
- florencegH3842VJ (10/5): Lovely stay - The apartment is spacious and comfortable. We prepared our dinner in the nicely furnished kitchen. Jenny was a gracious hostess during our Grab n Go breakfast which is offered in the Victorian Inn up the street a bit. She told us some fun stories about this area.
We walked along the streets and admired the architecture. Lovely stay and would certainly return if we were staying in this area again.
- Lesley D. (10/5): - The room was perfect. I enjoyed my stay so much. I drove the 10 min drive out to Centerville Beach. It was wonderful. Check in was easy and complementary breakfast was great. Plenty of parking and friendly helpful staff. Ferndale itself is a wonderful victorian town with quaint shops and resturants. I give it a 5 star review!
- Ashley (8/5): - Victorian Inn is a beautiful space, with very considerate staff. A refreshing change of pace.
- VernaF337 (10/5): Ferndale Fun - Ferndale is such a charming place to visit. We loved our stay at Redwood suites. We had everything we needed including a full kitchen. We really appreciated the thoughtful extras like a room fan. Our unit was clean and comfortable. Visiting Ferndale is delightful and so is a stay at the Redwood Suites.
- Laurie (8/5): I look forward to our next visit to Ferndale and staying at The Redwood Suites. - I liked the size and the space. I like that it’s on the second floor. It has a kitchen, sitting area so you don’t feel cramped. The bed is comfortable. The take away breakfast was decent. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. I originally was told we would be in room 9. I requested it. When we got there we were bumped to a different room because we were only staying one night. The room I requested faced Centerville Beach. Not a huge deal, just a little disappointed.
- Stan (10/5): - Always a great time in the surrounding area.
- jlholliday7 (10/5): Excellent stay, excellent service - I always love my stays at the Redwood Suites. How nice it was to see Lowell and Jenny again! Ferndale is my home away from home. Room was clean and quiet. Hope I can stay at the Victorian Inn next time. Always friendly service. I would tell anyone staying in Ferndale to stay here!
- Jamie (10/5): - Very beautiful and quiet town. People very friendly and small town shops
- Stan (8/5): - Close to historic Ferndale
- Lynda (10/5): - Love the comfort of this inn .
This is our favorite place to stay in Ferndale . Thanks for the healthy breakfast too !
- Jerry (8/5): - Great location. Could use a little sprucing up.
- Rebecca (7/5): Ferndale is strange - Very clean nice kitchen
- terrysC8630SL (10/5): Clean and comfortable - I always stay at Redwood Suites when visiting Eureka/Arcata. The rooms are very clean and comfortable - and the price is quite reasonable. Jenny and Lowell (the owners of the Victorian Inn) are very hospitable and full of information on places to visit in the area. I highly recommend Redwood Suites.
- Berret (10/5): Exceptional - Spacious room, very friendly woman who checked us in, and it's just right off the main town street
- Kieran (7/5): Great place to stay in Ferndale - Good location, friendly staff, cozy bed, easy parking, great grab and go breakfast. Room seemed outdated (shag carpet, old furniture, really small TV)
- G2754AUcarolj (10/5): Redwood Suites - Our plans originally were for a 1 night stay in Eureka on our way home to Washington. After pulling up to the planned hotel we were less than enthused. The hotel was in a very unsavory area of the city and we did not feel comfortable staying there.
As it happens, we had passed a billboard on the way for Ferndale.
After canceling our original reservation I phoned the Victorian Inn and was very excited to secure a room for the night.
Upon arrival, Lowell checked us into our room at the Redwood Suites, a set of rooms located outside (down the street) from the Victorian Inn.
The room was adorable! Double queen beds, a living room, and small kitchen.
Very clean and we were able to park right in front of the room.
For dinner we went back to the Inn and enjoyed a delicious meal, there was even my favorite drink listed on the menu. I usually have to describe the drink, and there it was. I took this as a very good omen.
The only sad takeaway was that we only had one night there. I would have loved to stay longer and explore all that Ferndale had to offer.
Guess this means I will have to go back again, oh darn 😊
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Susan (10/5): Charming town with lots of character - we enjoyed our stay - Great list cation. Very cozy with nice kitchen
- the owner was wonderful- very pleasant and helpful
- Mark (8/5): Convenient place to stay for Ferndale - Easy walking distance to the town. Good sized kitchen and bedroom.
- Flyer44476955961 (10/5): A great stay! - We love the Redwood Suites in the wonderful town of Ferndale!! Our room was so comfortable and clean. Everyone we dealt with was so friendly and helpful. The location is great, and an easy walk to town. And a plus is the pick up breakfast in the morning!! We will definitely be going back.
- Fernando (10/5): - friendly staff and town, very nice room. really enjoyed my stay :)
- Korina (4/5): - Arrives late after registration. Desk was closed, it’s a tiny little town, so they close at 8 PM. We had been caught up in San Francisco traffic and arrived at 8:10. But they were gracious enough to leave our rooms unlocked and our keys inside so we could Check in. My heater wasn’t working so they had to move me into another room. Which I appreciated. however, there was black mold, growing in the shower, where a leak onto the drywall made the paint peel and grow mold. So. Gross. I let the owners know and unfortunately they didn’t seem to think they needed to compensate me in any small way. I will not stay here again.
- spea77 (4/5): Go elsewhere! - We knew booking this (based on other reviews), it would be pretty barebones, but please go elsewhere. We walked in and immediately had to beeline to the store on Main Street looking for air freshener. It was so musty. Someone else had the same experience and the response was, it must’ve been very hot. We were there in February. It is completely outdated with old, stank carpeting. It’s also very noisy, as it is close to the road. Everyone raved about the hospitality, but we never met any owners. Dinner at Vi was fine, but we spent the same amount of money 2 days later for a much better meal in Sonoma. Go out for pizza in Ferndale, instead.
- gigiylva (10/5): 55th wedding anniversary - We had Suite #4,
two queens that were very comfortable, with the softest sheets and nice pillows.
There was a very comfortable couch, and nice reading lamps in the living-kitchen area.
We picked up box breakfasts - croissant, yogurt, granola bars and cheese.
The stay was very pleasant.
- Kane (9/5): Very quaint little town. Will definitely go back. - It was very close to the entire downtown area The TV in room 12 was very small.
- laurielE2467YP (8/5): Ferndale is a little paradise tucked away in a beautiful setting. Well worth the trip! - The room I stayed in was very nice and spacious. It had a full kitchen with a full stove and refrigerator. It was basically like a one bedroom apartment. Very comfortable and very well located in Ferndale. I was very pleased :)))
- CaroleMcSeattle (8/5): Nice Stay - We were on a cycling trip that took us through Ferndale. The town is quaint and welcoming. The motel was clean and comfortable. Would recommend to anyone coming into town - easy, convenient, and felt safe. We left before the breakfast which starts too late (8AM), so couldn’t enjoy that part of the experience.
- Deborah G. (10/5): - A fun destination with lots of good shopping in this quaint Victorian village
- Shani (8/5): Lovely warm welcome and helpful staff - Although the room/suite was old-fashioned (not in the cute Victoriana way the rest of the town is), it was very clean and functional. The kitchen was surprisingly well-equipped, the bed was one of the most comfortable that I have slept in on my trip up the west coast, and the shower was good. Having experienced some awful grab and go breakfasts, we were really pleasantly surprised by the croissant, yoghurt, cheese, jam and fruit in this breakfast box. The place is managed by the Victorian Hotel, which is in the next block. The staff throughout the hotel are very friendly, helpful and efficient - they really made our stay. If you’re looking for a more quaint Victorian experience, pay the extra and stay in the big hotel.
- BoardingPass544555 (10/5): A quiet refuge in a quaint town - We very much enjoyed our 3 nights at Redwood Suites in bucolic Ferndale during a recent community event we attended. Both of us remarked about the cleanliness and the quiet accommodations.
The suites are quite roomy, the wifi is solid and the beds are comfy. The complementary daily continental breakfast-to-go is tasty. It can be enjoyed with fresh-brewed coffee in the Victorian Inn bar and lounge across the street unless one prefers to eat it later elsewhere.
All of the staff are very friendly and attentive to every need.
We'll be booking a room at Redwood Suites again!
- Kathryn (9/5): Superb - Walking distance to town. The kitchen was a great asset.
- Eric (10/5): - Service was amazing!
- L9115VDtomw (10/5): Redwoods and more redwoods - We stayed in two unites for for nights in July, 2023. We loved the accommodations and the owners and staff. My daughter and granddaughter were in unit 5 and my wife and my wife and I in unit 2. Unit 5 was a little more spacious, but both were fine. The grab and go breakfasts every morning were great, and the coffee they served in the tavern every morning was terrific.
Two days we went south to Avenue of the Giants and Humboltd Redwoods State Park, and two days we went north to Redwoods National Park. The town of Ferndale is very charming. Everything was so convenient. There is a grocery store about a block away.
Our last morning there I went into the kitchen to make coffee, and I came face to face with a doe looking in the window. We checked each other out for a few minutes, and then she strolled away.
- Shoshana (10/5): We have stayed here several times and we have come to anticipate the high quality. - The location is a convenient walk to all downtown attractions. It would be nice to resume the pre-Covid sit down breakfast
- Vk (8/5): The location and facility was nice, breakfast was more than expected. - For the price we paid, everything was perfect. The box breakfast was more than we expected and more than most hotels offer. Lighting
- Caroline (9/5): Very pretty area. - Lovely location and having the extra living space. Enjoyed a cocktail too.
- julie (8/5): - It was fine. Pricey for room I thought.
Staff friendly.
- Wendy (10/5): Convenient and affordable older hotel get away with excellent staff. - Convenient location. Tasty grab and go breakfast. I’m sensitive to air freshener- I put air sticks outside.
- Randy (7/5): Good -
- John (8/5): - Convenient to historic old town
Shower had no shelves for sundries & no grab bar
- Brian (10/5): - Pretty place. Just disappointed the Victorian Inn restaurant was closed.Helpful and pleasant staff on check in.
- Reed (6/5): - Motorcycle trip. Great stop and stay. Hotel in poor condition. Stay was fine. Staff is great.
- Edward (7/5): Good -
- Debbie (8/5): - Was a nice little old fashion place, that was clean, quite, comfortable and within walking distance of restaurants, shops and other points of interest.
- Stuart (7/5): Charming Inn with friendly staff and breakfast treats, but find anywhere else for dinner... sadly. - The breakfast and the lady at the bar was so lovely. Anthony at reception was friendly.
The Inn had a nice ambience. The kitchen in the upstairs room had a great many ants on the counters. We were apparently moved to these rooms because of ants in our booked rooms.
The dinner ( for three) had nice starters, but the fish and chips x2 were both horribly overcooked... a hard batter shell with only a little very very skinny filet inside. The organic chicken was not cooked to gently falling off the bone, but tough and red on the bone. Honestly the boxed breakfast was much more tasty. Such a big disappointment.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - small town old style vibe nothing was wrong with the property
- Deborah G. (10/5): - Right in town and convenient
- BLANCA (8/5): - The location was good, the area was safe and downtown was right around the corner. It was a little noisy at night with traffic (large trucks) but overall a very quaint and beautiful town.
- John (10/5): Nice hotel, nice area - Ferndale is a nice town. Walkable with friendly people. My neighbors were a doe and two fawns. Also of note is that the hotel is but one block away from a fantastic drive through the mountains to the Pacific coast. I'd stay again in a minute.
- david (10/5): Why not stay here? - When visiting Ferndale I generally stay here. It's got a good location, walking distance to just about anywhere in town, clean and wholesome.
- Gail (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thomas (10/5): - All good
- Susan (8/5): - Inn keeper helped to resolve a booking issue.
- RITA (6/5): fair - Hotel was over priced. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Was expecting a really nice victorian room, instead got a park at the door suite that had a very musty smell. After leaving windows open and lots of fabreeze it was tolerable. Nothing going on in downtown Ferndale. Limited dining no entertainment.
- Craig (10/5): Redwood Suites. A great place to relax. - We had a nice relaxing stay at Redwood Suites and enjoyed the great location which was quiet and yet close to downtown with lots of interesting shops to explore. A nice breakfast with great coffee was included and available as the sister hotel just down the street. Jenny was fabulous and a great conversationalist. She deserves a raise!
- Kelly (4/5): #2 Not worth it - For $260, we were disappointed. The room smelled very musty. Carpet is old. We kept the door open to get fresh air. Single pain windows were dirty. Bathroom floor stained, and faucet and shower drain old and dirty. Bed was comfortable and small kitchen was handy.
- Dionna (10/5): - Everyone was friendly the room was clean much to be desired on the outside but nice inside cleanliness is key
- Janet (8/5): - At first we were a little disappointed as the pictures were not representative of our room. The room location was behind what is shown on the website and somewhat old and dated. It ended up being comfortable aside from ants in the kitchen area.
- Donald (6/5): - Room was ok but nothing great. Smelled of mold upon entering the room. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was fairly dim. All that considered, overpriced, even for Ferndale.
- Clifford (10/5): Just between us ...... - Not a large hotel, but that was a feature! Everyone was very friendly and made us feel that any need would be met. (The whole town is friendly and I hesitate to give too much of a good recommendation to prevent a mob. Let's keep this place quiet so it will always be as pleasant as we found it.). This was our first trip here and we look forward to the next.
