Angela (9/5): Affordable quick stay in Tokyo - One of the affordable places to stay in Tokyo, and nearest train station is about 10-15 minutes away (Minami-Senju). A quiet neighborhood with mostly elderly. There is nearby local supermarket (Super Shimadaya) and nearest convenience store is across the street (Lawson 100). The shared showers are at the first floor so it might be inconvenient for those staying in upper floors.

Clean, small and with air conditioning. Shared bathroom was also average semi clean. Staff were helpful but definitely Japanese love there rules. Expensive really for what you get. Definitely needs modernised. Facilities pretty ancient and location is a little out. Could do with HOT shower people.

Its very cheap and near train station(Minami station) and also can walk to Sensoji Temple. Around hotel still has many shrine. If u feel hungry and dont want to pay much, next to hotel have supermarket for cheap food box for u☺️☺️☺️. My favorite is free drink for all guest, hot-cold tea 24hrs. I love here and planning already to back there again if u dont mind with the very tiny room just come to stay ! Negative things ... -There has only 2 shower room not separate women and men. -toilet not separate women and men too. -abit far to Sensoji temple if u walk from the hotel.
takaharuf2013 (10/5): SPEND LESS and ENJOY MORE in TOKTO! - A WARM WELCOME upon arrival. I checked in later than I had planned though!　Hoteiya-san could be the best price ever in Tokyo district. The private room is tiny actually but good enough for the budget travel. It is quiet and comfortable provided with TV set, a fringe and an air-conditioner. All the necessary amenities are ready upon request. Shared shower rooms provided with shampoo and soap are all free; they might be occupied early in the morning, though. There is a Japanese style public bath. I bet this is worth trying. Free cold/hot water as well as tea is available on each floor. The owner with a good command of English took a great care in our selection of the cheaper restaurants nearby. The staff at the front desk were all helpful. A local convenient-store is just next to the facility. Some other stores and supermarkets are within a walking distance. My only complaint, though, is that there are just a few smoking rooms available and I had to make a reservation far in advance. I will definitely come back again to Hoteiya-san. Spend less and enjoy more in Tokyo! .

Rest of the hotel is good: service is very good; they also have a good public bath. As tourist, the location is decent as it's possible to walk to Tokyo Sky tree and Asakusa and maybe Ueno.
cynthiamT6639GH (6/5): needed an inespensive hotel in a pinch - one of 3 hotels stayed in during silver week do to bad planning. others were kimi ryokan and ryokan sawanoya. this was what i could find at the last minute. after reading reviews, i crossed my fingers and hoped that it wasnt smoky, smelly, clean, quiet as pass reviewers had mentioned. there were no foul odors. the ac blew cool, but didnt dehumidify and it could get stuffy quickly. it was relatively clean, and only kicked out one small cockroach. we had a bed and a futon. that was the width of the room. pics show it exactly as is. on a table was a small frig. 3 hooks on both sides of the walls. just enough room at the foot of the bed/futon to place your bag. the bed mattress was quite hard. my son felt uncomfortable. the futon mattress was a single and thin, unlike the ones at the ryokans we stayed at which not only were thicker, but also has a cushion underneath. after the first night, i folded it in half lengthwise, allowing my arms to fall off the mattress to better suit my back. barely enough electrical outlets. free wifi, but had to connect to the upper floor. communal toilets on each floor. we were on the 3rd floor. the elevator was quick and quiet. our toilet was women's only (several stalls, rubber slippers, sink). a communal sink area also had a hot/cold water dispensor with glasses. our neighbors had rented 3 of the rooms around us. my son had to go to another floor for a toilet. the showers were on the first floor. the showers were adequate. soap and shampoo provided in pump bottles. the blow driers were quite weak. there was a communal bath/ofuro, with assigned hours for male or female use. we did not try it. the laundry and kitchen were combined. the doors locked at 10pm. we were caught in a rain storm and needed to do laundry. they had two size washers and a couple of driers. detergent vending machine. i did get locked out of the laundry room with 5 min left on the drier. they let me back in. the driers were not that strong. 300 yen for a large load. 200 yen for a small load. 100 yen for 30 min. detergent was 30 yen (small load) or 50 yen (large load). the main entry is quite tight, with a computer room to the left, the main office/window in front of you and a hall to the elevator to the right. cash up front, no credit cards. although the main doors are locked in the evening, your key will open a side door, so no true curfew. the staff was friendly and courteous. it was fairly easy to find the hotel. straight shot from the train station using the south exit. to cross the RR tracks, you can take the stairs, ramp or elevator up cross the ramp, and do the same on the other side. uses the Hibiya line (non JR pass) the street is pretty utilitarian. this is a residential neighborhood. cement block with a few restaurants, shops more for locals. there is a 7-11 for an ATM. small grocery store. i was glad i had a place to stay. this was a very modest accommodation. clean enough, but personally, i would prefer a more comfortable bed and am able to pay for it. the very low price makes this hotel very affordable and less expensive than a hostel or capsule hotel for two people. i can understand why some would prefer to save money on a room and spend their cash on something else in tokyo. a friend of ours living in japan was offered a dorm room during silver week, but opted to do AirBnB in a nice apartment for about the same price. if this had not been available, we were going to look at staying at a manga shop or an onsen that allows you to rent a chair for 2000 yen.
Benicio (6/5): Cheap, simple room a bit far away from the action - A small hostel style hotel with western or traditional rooms with just enough space to lay down your bedding and bags. Shared shower/bathroom, towels are available for hire. The hotel is a good 15 minute walk from the closest train station and a good 30 minute train ride to the popular areas of Tokyo. If price is your only concern, this could be the place for you but be aware, the money you'll save per night will be eaten up by the time it takes to get anywhere from here.

Reasonably clean and quiet rooms. 3. Wifi, A/C, mini fridge, TV 4. Grocery store right next door, 7 Eleven about 2 blocks away 5. Metro station less than ten minute walk 6. Restaurants like McDonald's, Burger King, as well as local Japanese as soon as you walk out metro station CONS: 1. Customer service was ok last year, but this year was lacking. 2. Rodent (rat) on second floor. 3. Only 1 all female restrroom. (2 shared and 2 all male restrooms) Overall, I would probaby stay again because of the price even if customer service is not that good. It doesrovide a decent place to rest after day full of sightseeing!
34josephl (10/5): Best budget hotel I've used! - This hotel was easily the best value for my yen during my entire stay in Japan. I stayed here with my wife on a two-week trip to visit several cities. We stayed in this hotel for three nights. Key Points: - Rooms are tiny but quiet and comfortable. Didn't encounter a smoky smell. - All important amenities are there including clean showers and bathrooms and excellent free wifi. - Location was good, but not phenomenal (4/5) For more details, read on. The location was very good, there were convenience stores and restaurants nearby and it was easy to find (especially if you read katakana). It's two stops via JR train from the main Yamanote line, if you're using JR Pass. Otherwise it's beautifully connected to the subway system via the Hibiya Line. The room was extremely small, only about a foot on each side larger than the futon we were provided with. High ceilings kept it from being claustrophobic, though. The pillows were Japanese style, i.e. filled with beads. I liked this, my wife didn't. The tatami was a bit old and shedded on our clothing when we sat on it directly. There was free air conditioning, a mini-fridge and TV all in the room. We didn't experience the smoky smell some previous tenants were describing and it was wonderfully quiet. The first thing the management told us was that talking in the rooms was to be kept to a quiet minimum, and everyone obeyed this rule. For amenities, there are large, shared bathrooms with washlet (western style toilet with bidet), which are essentially like a slightly cleaner version of a public restroom. A little smelly, but nothing worth throwing a fit about. There are two individual showers that are actually quite nice and spacious and have shampoo and soap provided. There is also a sento-style bath that we didn't use, but trust it is as good as the rest of the hotel. There is a kitchen and a microwave as well as a sitting room downstairs. The staff at the front desk varied, but were generally very helpful and attentive. All in all, this was an excellent hotel, especially for the price. We spent most of our days out and about, so the size of the hotel room really didn't bother us. It was a great place to drop our bags and sleep or regroup during the day and use the internet. Would recommend it for singles or couples traveling on a budget.
SEIKOEPSON (8/5): No-frill but decent, great value - Positives: - Y2700/night in Oct 2013, great value - no curfew - free WiFi - air-con (hot & cold) - 24h shower - mini fridge - TV - fresh linens, room is reasonably clean (could do better but given the price) - 24h convenience store & local supermarkets (Shimadaya & My Basket - open till 11pm) within 2-5mins walk - 20 mins walk / short Bus ride to Asakusa - good access to Akihabara Negatives: - If you are super sensitive to cigarette fume, you'd better emphasize that you wish to book a room well away from any smoking rooms. The hotel owner is working on to improve but you'll still be exposed to certain amount of fume within the building as their smoking room isn't air-tight. The concept of smoke-free is yet to be fully understood by the Japanese in general and you'll have this issue pretty much anywhere you go. - 2 x shower rooms for the entire hotel. Can be busy during the morning. A bit mouldy but fully functioning. Overall: Highly recommended for shoestring travellers. No-frill hotel like this would be a brilliant choice for people who will be mostly out during the day. You can save so much YYY on accommodation and spend on something else. The area still retains an atmosphere of old Tokyo and just walk about the streets can be an interesting experience if you know what to look.
afkara (10/5): Nice and cheap - I stayed here with my friend last month. The staffs are friendly and very helpful. The caretaker even gave my friend a flight travel omamori when he checked out. (we checked out seperately). We stayed at the non smoking tatami room. The room for non-smoking is in different floor from the smoking ones. So I didn't have any problem like the review I read before I went there. (probably many has changed since) After you checked in, the staff will guide you to all of the facilities in the hotel. The room was clean enough, there are TVs, Refrigerator, and a cooler in the room. The microwave, tea/water dispenser, and shared shower could be used 24h. There's also a Japanese style public bath (sentou) that could be used on the first floor(Men's 4:30pm-9pm / Lady's after 9pm) There's free wifi for each floors. Convenience store is within walking range. Also near tokyo sky tree and asakusa. This place is good for budget travelers.

Also the person one below was smoking by the window and that didn't help. Still happy to return to this hotel but I'd ask the reception to place me in a well-ventilated room away from any smoker next time. I suspect they don't quite grasp the concept of 'non-smoking' in the same sense in the west. - One of the shower room (on the left) was a bit mouldy - No air-con for cooling, would be tricky during summer. Overall: Highly recommended for shoestring traveller. The area retains the atmosphere of old Tokyo, so, unless you spend majority of time stuck in your room, no-frill hotel like this would be a brilliant choice. You can save so much YYY on accommodation and spend on something else. (Isn't that the whole point of you being there?)
einbisschen (10/5): This hotel is awesome! - I actually went to tokyo in august 2009 with my best friend. Seeing as we were/are young we were looking a steal of a bargain. Not only is this place cheap, but it is extremely clean and quiet. It is only about 5-10 min from the minami-senju station. We opted for a "japanese style" room which entails sleeping on futons on tatami mats, but neither of us found it to be uncomfortable. Neither were we bothered by the size of the room, even with the two of us: just enough for our luggage, our beds and us. We thought that it added to the trip and found it to be fun. The front door is locked after "curfew" but the side door opens with your room key and is no trouble at all. It's true that this area is not nearly as flashy as other parts of tokyo, but I found it extremely endearing. Not to mention that all immediate needs are extremely close by: the train station, a grocery store, 7-11, multiple places to eat, koban (police box), etc. It is true that there are a number of homeless day workers in this area, but it is extremely safe. I spent a lot of time walking all over at all hours, with and without my friend and as a 20 year old female gaijin, never once did I feel afraid or threatened. I will definitely be staying in this hotel again.
