tootielovesu25 (2/5): Nice stuff but dirty hotel - I stayed because I was living in my car I'm still living in my car but it was nice to have a bed for a week so I guess I could get over the roaches at least it was a place to stay
klcosson (2/5): Unclean and Pest Infested - Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel based on our recent experience. Here’s why: Upon check-in, the reservation system did not carry over my Priceline booking details, so I had to provide all my information again. The staff member assisting us was kind, but that was the only positive aspect of our stay. Cleanliness was a significant issue from the start. When I moved a chair to access the air conditioning unit, I found trash and soggy cigarette butts underneath—clear evidence the room hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned. The refrigerator also had visible spills left from previous guests, and one of the pillows had a yellow stain. In the bathroom, the toilet paper roll was nearly empty, and there were no replacement rolls available. Despite trying to be understanding—perhaps housekeeping was rushed due to the holiday—the situation escalated when we saw a German cockroach in the room, out in the open, during daylight. German cockroaches are notoriously difficult to eradicate and their presence often indicates a widespread infestation, as they typically hide unless populations are high. This was especially concerning since we were traveling with our 12-year-old daughter. When we informed the front desk about these issues, the staff member offered more toilet paper or to move us to another room. However, because German cockroaches often migrate between rooms and a daytime sighting suggests a serious problem, we decided it was best for our family’s health and safety to leave. We spent less than an hour in the room and had to book another hotel at additional cost in order to continue our holiday plans with family. Neither the hotel nor Priceline offered compensation or a refund for our troubles. Long story short...the lack of cleanliness, inadequate amenities, and presence of pests made for an unacceptable experience. For these reasons, I would not recommend staying at this property.

Gloria (2/5): - This place was nothing like pictured! Was never able to enter lobby so service was at a window. Checked in that Sunday 17th room 141 was absolutely terrible!! Smelled horrible! I did a little cleaning to let it air out. I left and came back that night around 9 smell wasn’t so strong, open refrigerator dead roach, open microwave rusted with dead roach, roach on the wall. Monday 18th woke up with headache and coughing went to shower and I noticed the bathroom ceiling had mold! I request a different room that even after work and was asked to come back that night at 11. I wasn’t hanging out too that time which left me paying for another room!! Tuesday evening 8/19 they gave me another room so I went to get my things from 141 and roaches were in the sink. The other room 104 smelled alil better but I still had a dry cough from the first room and was hesitant about staying and it getting worse. I paid for Sunday through Saturday checkout and only stayed Sunday night! It wasn’t worth my life! I chose the place for sentimental reasons of 2021, but never again! The hotel has some major health violations among others! I won’t recommend to anyone even if you don’t care about the condition at this hotel.

TV didn’t work, I had to walk the property to find help ( no phone in the room) No bath towels… was not going hunting late at night to find someone. Air conditioner ran all night, noisy & auto didn’t work

Bruce (2/5): - Wow - where to start?!!! We arrived at 9:00p.m. The motel lobby was locked. They checked us in through a hole in one of the lobby door!! The chain lock on our room door was busted off (as well as half of the door trim) We found hairs on the pillows and bed sheets! Wet liquid on the nightstand and lots of food crumbs on the floor. Not even a bar of hand soap in the bathroom. When we checked out, in the morning we were not allowed into the building. No one told us how to check out so we deposited our room key, through the hole in the door. There was not even a cup of coffee available - not even in our room and no breakfast!!!!! We just needed a bed for a few hours of sleep as we traveled and we are pretty easy going, but this place was a shock!! Their write up on their website is mostly NOT TRUE.

Verified traveler (4/5): Just poor overall - After checking in, was sent to a room with the door ajar. After peeking in, was obvious that I had been sent to a room not yet cleaned. I notified the clerk and he reassigned me to another room with no problem; however, the new room had no towels at all, no remote for the television, and hardly any toilet paper. I would say this is the standard “get what you pay for” situation when it comes to hotels, but since this was Memorial Day Weekend, I got charged basically double rate for this substandard stay.

Melisa (2/5): Dirty, old and outdated! Don't stay here! - This place was awful! Do not stay here! Old and outdated, dirty, and a very uncomfortable bed with crappy pillows. We striped the bed, used our travel sheets, blankets, and pillows since we knew ours was clean! Thank goodness we always bring our own, we just didnt trust this place! We definitely would have left but had an extremely long drive prior to arrival so we needed to somewhat rest. We should have slept in our vehicle, which we would have probably been more comfortable in! When morning came, I used the toilet which ended up backing up just by flushing, #1 not #2! Not maintaining issues cause backups! We started getting ready for our day, showered which tub doesnt drain (yuck) and then we hear knocking at the door shortly after 7am from the housekeeping! Check out is not until 11am so no need to bother guests until you know they are gone or after the allotted check out time! So very rude of them! Dont stay here period! This place needs to be knocked down and rebuilt or completely gutted and start fresh. Just horrible! And don't bring kids here! Dirty needles in the parking lot and nasty condom was near the grass that was separating the street to room. I would never again stay here for any reason!

The place is not well kept, our room was dirty, the tv rarely worked, the bathroom fan was filthy, rust everywhere in the bathroom, holes in the bathroom door and the door knob was falling off bathroom door. The beds and pillows are old and uncomfortable. Will not be staying here ever again.

Dale (4/5): Poor maintenance - I was disappointed from the begging. The host told me to stand at the window instead of inviting me into the lobby. Next, the door handle was broken and that was a delay to get someone to teach me to open the broken door. Btw, if the handle broken then who would feel safe. Inside the room is in need of several repairs. The ceiling is peeling and falling, the tile is broken and missing pieces. The switch to the bathroom light and fan is broken and won't turn off so it ran constantly. Very noisy even with the door closed. I rarely leave poor reviews but the broken door handle and broken light switch are both safety issues. Watch YouTube videos to learn how to make these simple repairs. Better luck in the future...!!
Kathy (6/5): Not the best but Melinda made it worth the stay - Roaches in my room which smelled of weed so strongly that I had to leave the door open, the AC unit on high and the bathroom ventilation on for hours. Melinda was excellent as she provided a cleaning product that cleared the weed smell after being applied. A can of disinfectant helped as well. Melinda was always making sure to check if anything was needed during my stay. She also helped with getting my brother's room ready as it hadn't been completed when expected at 2:30.

Brenda (2/5): Stay away - Hotel of Horrors - This place must be shutting down because the owners have definitely given-up on the upkeep. I should have known when I checked in during the daytime and the lobby was not open. I had to check in at a window. The lobby was never open. This is a one-night stay and I almost left that same night. It was horrible! Here is the bullet list of reasons: > Weird smells. I brought in a scented candle to burn. > No working heat and temps in low 40's that night (owner brought in a portable heater that night that did the job) > Stained pillows & bed linens - you don't want details, trust me! > Only 1 cheap flat standard pillow per Queen bed > No extra blankets plus I really didn't want to use stained blanket on bed so I had to use a small fleece throw blanket i brought for a Christmas present. > Two cheap thin towels and no hand towels at all. > The only sink was clogged terribly with hair! The only good thing was there was hot water when I took a shower and that was a welcomed blessing. If I have to be in that area again, I'm not staying here or at any other hotel in the area.

alamito (6/5): Excellent? Not! - We stayed here based on an excellent rating on another site. However, there is absolutely nothing excellent about this hotel. It was a little below average for a budget hotel, nothing redeeming about it except for the good fridge which had a freezer. Not a room you’d want to linger in. Advertised free breakfast but there was no breakfast, not even coffee, except for in the room, but the coffee packet smelled pretty old, so we had to get coffee elsewhere. A first! Never have had to get coffee outside of a hotel. Would never repeat this experience. The town of DeFuniak Springs is charming, but I would advise staying anywhere but here.

Ryan (2/5): Terrible Management - Cancelled During Hurricane - I booked to escape Hurricane Milton. I couldn't make it there the first night of my stay, they called me, and I could not promise I would be there that night, as I was helping other people. They then cancelled the rest of my booking, without telling me. Then I was left to fend for myself, during a hurricane. In talking to management, it was obvious, there was a language and cultural barrier, but I did not expect there to be a humanitarian barrier.
Warry (4/5): Clean but no frills. - The room was updated and clean, the AC adequate, a little humid. Advertised as having a microwave but there was none. There was also no WiFi , which was not divulged at time of check-in. As with some other chains, there is no coffee in the lobby, no toiletries. Next door is a Starbucks and Waffle House with internet and breakfast.

If you were thinking of staying here and paying the higher price because of breakfast, their listing is not accurate and should be changed.

This is false advertising on part of Expedia.com. Shame on you!

King room non-smoking smelled like cigarettes, large foot size hole in the sheetrock next to the bed. Tv with no remote and side buttons wouldn't change channels. Continental breakfast was not available (lobby doors remained locked) again had to go to small after hours window. When i reported issues with room the person who checked me appeared to not understand me and just gave me a blank look. Another guy over heard me and asked what room i was in. Took my key card and turned back to his computer without any other comments. I normally do not write reviews on hotels i stay in however if you come across this hotel just skip right over and look at another.This hotel rating through hotels.com as 7.2 when it should have been 2.7

James (4/5): Not such a happy stay. We left early. - It left a lot to be desired. We arrived. There was no one at the desk we had to wait for someone to come. Our room was smell like cigarettes, smoking steel cigarettes, smoking all night we smell cigarettes smoke we complained the next day only to be told. Well that’s non-smoking, which we said we know because we asked for non-smoking. We had two bath towels that were old and ragged. The floor was not clean. The remote for the TV did not work. We could only get one channel. There’s no phone in the room to call the front desk. I’m not sure what kind of places is supposed to be, but it was not even close to our standards, we will not stay there again.
Janice (6/5): No breakfast! - The website said a breakfast was offered and showed many nice pictures of the breakfast area. After I checked in, I asked about the times for breakfast and was told that there is no breakfast and that the website is incorrect. This is unacceptable!

Jill (4/5): - I don’t usually leave reviews as I’m pretty tolerant with anything so long as the place is clean and safe. But I felt compelled to leave this review. We were due to check in at 2:00, and we got to the property around 12 so we went to the front to see if we could check in early, and if not, to use the bathroom in the lobby after travelling. The lobby was locked, and the male attendant motioned us to this tiny little window where we explained what we were after. He said we couldn’t check in early, we couldn’t come into the lobby, and we couldn’t use the bathroom because it was out of service. We thought that was totally weird. We came back at 2:00 to check in and again tried to enter the lobby - it was locked. The woman attendant motioned us to the tiny window. We asked if we could come into the lobby to check in. She said that normally they don’t let people into the lobby but because it was cold she would let us in. We go into the lobby, and there’s a perfectly functioning bathroom right there (counter to what we were told two hours prior). The female attendant said that they had kept the lobby closed ever since Covid. What? It’s 2024. It’s absolutely ridiculous to make us stand in the parking lot and conduct check in through a tiny opening in a window like you would see in a convenience store in a “bad” part of town. The fact that they aren’t allowing patrons into the lobby to have a civilized check in or to use the bathroom is ridiculous, using Covid as an excuse

Jim (4/5): Disappointing stay - Ice machine was broken. No continental breakfast which was advertised as included on the Hotels website. Clerk told me "they" were supposed to take that down. Room was clean but bathroom was in poor condition. Ceiling texture was falling off over the shower.
Marilyn (2/5): - We drove for 6 hours and really needed to use a restroom. She wouldn't let us into the lobby. It was only 4:30 pm. Not late at night. The room stunk of mold. Im very allergic and couldn't sleep. Hard to breathe. The handicap chair in the shower was wobbly. I was afraid to try to sit on it. No ice machine on site. No breakfast.

This place is not suitable for anyone.

Laura (4/5): - Checked-in during the evening with My Son and the room smelled stale and old and the TV didn’t work but I was willing to ignore until I wanted to bathe and the bathtub had cockroaches. I was disgusted and when I woke up around 1am cockroaches were on my laptop and a bag I bought in. I couldn’t return to sleep and made sure my son was protected as he slept. I did tell the staff I they acted ignorant and suddenly couldn’t believe there were cockroaches and will now look at the TV after I check out of the room. We started the night and left disgusted. I drive cross country and this Hotel was the worse.
776candiec (2/5): POOP on toilet paper roll! UNACCEPTABLE - Absolutely disgusting! Roaches came out of ac unit when we turned it on. Very hot in the room as the ac was no on prior to arrival. It did cool down eventually. Toilet paper roll in bathroom had POOP on one side of it. Microwave was not cleaned. Pillows smelled like cigarette smoke. Sheets, towels,tub, sink and toilet were the only clean things. Ice machine was broken and looked like it had been for YEARS. Not sure what was renovated but definitely not our room. No hair dryer, holes in the walls, cigarette burns on blankets, wires hanging out from prior lighting, shampoo bottles diluted with water and outside door did not close all the way. I'm sure I'm missing something too. As others have said NO BREAKFAST! Lobby doors stay locked! Pictures attached.
