- erichC2236QT (10/5): A nice place. - The room was clean as was the kitchenette. A very good place to stay. I didn't go to the restaurant but there was a wait to get in so it must be pretty good. It is about a mile walk to the Pabst Theatre. The neighbor was safe and walkable.
- sadiem889 (10/5): "Adventurous Stay with Bustling Cafe" - The Plaza has a great historic feel. It conjured images of an author tapping out a novel in the 1920s tucked away in the room. The place was quiet in spite of there being a ton of people there. The rooms are small but we don't mind. The only downside is that there is no ventilation of any kind in the bathroom. It is an old building, so it is probably not even possible. I also noticed our room did not have A/C. Not a problem when we stayed, but if staying in summer, I would recommend asking about this. The location was awesome. A great little neighborhood and walking distance to many points of interest, food, grocery store, bars, restaurants, the lakeshore, museums, etc.

The ambiance is nice, and it was walkable to my downtown event venue, good restaurants and coffee shops. Parking was on-site and reasonably priced. There was soft water and soft towels. The restaurant recommendation list available at the front desk was also very helpful.
- kitw299 (10/5): Great Hotel, Great Location - This hotel is extremely cute and boutique like. We were very happy with our check-in process and the layout, cleanliness, and overall look of our room. The hotel staff are amazing. They were friendly, accommodating, and answered my questions with a genuine smile. The hotel is about one block away from the light rail train stop at Cathedral Park, 10 to 15 minute walk to the Art Museum, and a 20 minute walk to the German restaurants and sports arena where the Bucks play. Great location, great hotel!

Location in Milwaukee's Lower East Side neighborhood is close to Juneau Park, the lakefront, and--via the free HOP light-rail--convenient to downtown. Would definitely stay again.

On departure we had to carry our bags through the full dining room. Bad set up. There was a pedestal sink in the bathroom so very little space for toiletries. The bed was very comfy. - Passport58150351797 (8/5): Beautiful room, service lacking - The room was beautiful—modern, spacious, and very comfortable. It felt like I was staying in a modern studio apartment. The strong air conditioning and ceiling fan made the space feel extra relaxing, and the overall design was fresh and stylish. Beyond the room, the hotel itself had history and personality; the art throughout the property was striking and gave the space a true nostalgic feel that set it apart from more generic hotels. That said, a few details in the room could use more attention. The cabling hanging down from beneath the TV was noticeable and an easy fix that would improve the polished appearance. They should use in-wall kits to hide that sloppy cabling or even just use plastic pieces that are painted the same color as the walls. Similarly, the artwork in the room itself was off-center and slightly wobbly—another small issue that takes away from an otherwise carefully designed environment. With such beautiful touches throughout the hotel, ensuring the in-room artwork is straight and secure should definitely be taken into consideration. I also appreciated the inclusion of the kitchen, equipped with a full-size refrigerator, but it absoutely feels like a missed opportunity. Only two small complimentary water bottles were provided. Stocking larger bottled waters, (both sparkling and still waters), or a few soft drinks (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Ginger Ale, etc.) would be a thoughtful upgrade for guests and an easy upselling opportunity for the hotel. The only significant challenge during my stay was with service. I checked into my room around 4:00 PM without issue. Around 5:00 PM, I called to request additional pillows, towels, and shampoo. By 6:00 PM, nothing had arrived, so I called again. The staff member I spoke with was pleasant and assured me the items would be placed in the room while I was out for the evening. When I returned from a concert around 11:30 PM, however, nothing had been delivered. My third call, close to midnight, was answered by a different staff member who seemed extremely irritated and mentioned how busy the evening had been with check-ins. While I understood the workload, the interaction felt unprofessional and unhinged. About 40 minutes later, the items did arrive, though not in the requested quantity. He was very grumpy; not someone you'd want to represent the face of your brand. The next morning, at checkout, the experience improved significantly. The front desk associate who asked about my stay was professional, warm, and apologetic. She listened attentively and then offered a complimentary breakfast voucher for the hotel café, which I appreciated. Overall, this hotel has so much potential. The room was beautiful and comfortable, the artwork and nostalgic personality of the property bring unique character, and much of the staff showed great hospitality. With more consistency in service and better attention to simple details—like hidden cabling, straightened artwork, and in-room beverage options for purchase—this hotel could absolutely deliver a five-star experience.

Our room was clean but very dated. 2 Plumbing backups in bathroom forced to change your rooms. I have a feeling the plumbing is original to the building and is an ongoing issue.

- micheleh525 (10/5): Wonderful stay - My daughter and I spent the weekend in Milwaukee to see a show, "Wicked!" The Plaza was the perfect place to stay. It was close to the theater and the neighborhood felt very safe. We walked to and from the hotel to the theater, no concerns at all. The hotel has a retro feel, complete with actual keys to the room. Once inside the room, it was perfect, modern, lush, and well decorated. There was a gated parking lot right behind the building with an entrance to the hotel opened with the above mentioned keys.

We had at least 3 of the young employees ask if they could help carry our things to our room, they were wonderful, very polite and friendly! We love the Plaza, it’s a beautiful old building with beautiful fixtures. One of the best parts is the full kitchen!

The art deco decor and overall feel is very cool. The back door entrances allow you to easily come and go without talking through the lobby or restaurant. Highly recommend!

If I have plans on the east side of MKE (Art Museum, Third Ward, even Bay View) I usually stay here. They make me feel special but- I bet they do that for all the guests! Don't miss the opportunity for a great breakfast at The Cafe before you leave!

- DenverKelly (10/5): Historic Gem Close to the Lake - While I was in Milwaukee for a work conference (July 2025), I stayed at the Plaza with a friend and my daughter. The Plaza is a gem, fun architecture and history. The rooms have been recently updated, and the beds are incredibly comfortable. Having access to a kitchen and proximity to the lake, the hotel offers flexibility for eating, as well as ease for morning walks along the waterfront. There is a Kroger brand grocery store across the street from the hotel, making access to groceries really manageable. While the weather was muggy, the room A/C works beautifully allowing easy climate control in the room. This is my second time staying at the Plaza, and I would stay again.

Only reason I have it 4 stars is because I called the day before to ask about early check in because i wanted to get our bags into one room before the concert which I paid the $25 fee to check in at 1 but everyone else was able to check in and didn't have to pay so instead of charging me they could've waived that fee since the rooms were ready. Otherwise great location and great hotel!!

- lindainmadison (6/5): Nice renovated room, kitchenette, steep staircase, inexpensive parking. - I like the idea of an independent hotel versus a chain. Pros of this one: clean, updated window shades, kitchen and bathroom. Take advantage of the kitchen if you are staying here. Otherwise just stay at a hotel without a kitchen and enjoy the amazing restaurants n Milwaukee. Inexpensive parking just behind the hotel. We found this convenient and easy on the wallet. If you’re walking or taking rideshare or public transportation, this is a very convenient location. Meh: The use of real keys is different but easy to get used to, just remember to take them with you because the door locks automatically. Also the separate key to access the hotel from the parking lot didn’t work on all the doors. It happened to multiple people. The size of the room and the bonus of the kitchen means no closet - remedied by an open wardrobe unit, in case that is important. They aren’t kidding when they say it is a true European walk up. If you have any issues at all getting up and down stairs, this is not the place for you. It’s not a small staircase. Lastly, the room we got faced inward and into other rooms. No view whatsoever. I don’t think this neighborhood lends itself to a view anyway.
- Jodi (10/5): - This hotel was amazing for the price! A kitchen in the room for far less than the Pfister where we were attending a wedding. My only complaint is that the room darkening shade would not stay up and sun was in my eyes.

- DCSv158 (10/5): Blooming Good Stay! - It was so convenient to get to the Milwaukee Art Museum from The Plaza for "Art In Bloom" and it was so nice to relax in the comfy room after a long busy day. Staff are all so sincerely friendly and helpful. Thanks for keeping the ice trays filled! It is always nice to end our stay with a lucious breakfast on the morning or our departure at The Cafe!

- 783tristana (8/5): Retro Gem for Brunch Lovers - Nice place to stay! We love the Art Deco/retro vibes and the jazz music playing in the background. The café was always packed during our weekend stay, which is a sure sign that it’s a great spot for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Would stay again

The café is always busy, so be sure to grab a bite when you can. The jazz music in the lobby, along with plenty of seating to wait for your table while playing dominos or checkers, is a great touch!

- PamM1978 (8/5): Weekend Getaway - Rooms are the “Best in Milwaukee” The Cafe at the Plaza restaurant is a local favorite spot- so good! I would have given 5 stars but I had a little credit card issue with the front desk. Be careful that you don’t give an additional card for incidentals-your room will be getting charged as well, regardless whether or not you gave a different card to reserve the room. The HOLD on my money is the issue, and being told it will take about a week to “drop off” That’s a week you won’t have your cash, just FYI.

- Reed (8/5): Go-to MKE hotel - Very clean, good room layout, sufficient amenities, friendly staff, super easy parking and check-in/out. Stayed here before and I’ll probably stay here every trip to MKE. It’s winter and the heat was CRANKED when we got there. I turned it down to the lowest setting before bed but the room stayed uncomfortably warm for the night. Plus the normal radiator clanks and whines 2ft from my head. Super minor but I’ll be sure to prepare next time.
- Y5143MRmichellem (10/5): MUST STAY in Milwaukee!! - This now is my regular place to stay in Milwaukee. Not only does it have the old world charm and architectural details preserved, the modern conveniences and cozy bedding are just so lovely! I also appreciate the full kitchen as I have very special dietary restrictions, so not only is it great to have the full kitchen to accommodate - there's a GROCERY store right across the street in the back!!! Talk about uber convenient! The employees also are very friendly and always willing to accommodate even the most random requests. The laundry facility is very convenient, and the cafe obviously is a local delight but also a welcome meal - and getting to sit at the counter is like stepping back in time too. Just LOVE this place!!!

I just wish the restaurant stay open an hour later for us late risers. I will definitely return next year around our anniversary which is on Valentines day.

Enjoyed a comfortable stay with convenient amenities in the room; it is nice to be able to prepare a light dinner when we feel like chilling in the room. I wish I could have tried the diner maybe next time all in all it was a nice place to stay. Easy secure parking somewhat ada compliant definitely would stay again
