Guest Reviews
- Floris (8/5): Small but friendly in great location - Very small room, almost no storage space, noisy street below on Saturday. Smallest elevator I have ever seen. Other than that, friendly staff, excellent location, reasonable price. Would come again.
- Nickolas (10/5): - Great property, friendly staff. Id stay again. Only downside - the street was pretty noisy with people having a good time until about 3/4am.
- Bryerly (2/5): - We requested a baby bed. The one provided was unusable - it was so old and broken and didn’t even have a mattress or crib sheets. Our baby couldn’t sleep in it.
The area was also extremely noisy and the room was tiny.
- Sheree (8/5): - Great location.
- Kristi (10/5): - Had an amazing stay here good location
- Daniel (8/5): Great hotel, just buy earplugs - Great location, friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, would recommend. The only issue is that there is a night club downstairs, so very noisy on Friday and Saturday night. But if you have earplugs (you can buy at a pharmacy for €4), everything is fine. Once I got the earplugs, the stay was excellent.
- Bradley (8/5): - Very clean and modernized room. Very friendly staff.
Only reason for dropping it down to 4 stars is that when booking it appeared as if the continental breakfast was included, however it is not. It is available for 10 euros per person which was a bit disappointing (and expensive).
- Anne (10/5): - This hotel was perfect for an affordable, family stay in a vibrant, central area of Paris.
We had a quad room and it was more than satisfactory. Located at the rear it overlooked a lovely courtyards d we heard no street noise.
Plenty of options nearby for cheap and cheerful breakfast and easy access to all public transport,
Adam on reception was terrific and really friendly. He was great with the kids and helpful information.
Definitely recommend!
- Blake (6/5): - The hotel staff was amazing! The sheets had hair and stains on them and at night it was very loud as there is a bunch of bars and clubs right outside the hotel, noise goes till about 6am so I recommend getting earplugs to sleep. Otherwise the location was good and the hotel was in good condition.
- Cameron (10/5): - The hotel was in a great location with friendly staff. The rooms are clean and nice looking, with comfortable beds.
The area around the hotel is very lively even late at night, with the typical great selection of Paris brasseries etc. and major tourist attractions are within easy reach via transit, rental bike, or even walking if you want to explore the Seine area. I would stay here again!
- Andrew (6/5): - Ok
- Naa (10/5): - Affordable. Closs to transportation options ans many dining options.
- Bijo (10/5): - Nice stay with nearby metro station/restaurants. 35 mins to Paris CDG Airport by taxi.
- Damian (10/5): - Fab hotel for city centre Paris
- Giles (8/5): - It's a 2 star hotel so I wasn't expecting luxury. The room was clean, quiet and felt safe. The staff were friendly and manned reception 24 hours which helped you feel even more secure and the location was superb. I think we got a bigger room than most when we looked at the floor plan on the wall so we got lucky as our room wasn't huge but was adequate. Aircon in the room came in handy on day 1.
- Donya (6/5): - Over-all the hotel itself was fine and the staff was friendly. But we were very disappointed there was little to no hot water whenever we wanted to shower. The area is a bit wilder than expected, lots of loud clubbing and rough sleepers on our street begging for money and even drugs ..! Would not recommend for a family stay but perhaps a young group who enjoys the party nightlife. Some nice restaurants around though, open late for a midnight snack and early for a nice breakfast. — another thing to mention is we had to leave our key with reception when we we left, which we found a little odd.
- Elena (8/5): - Good location, clean room, noisy outside
- Georgina (8/5): - Check in is after 2pm. Flights arrive from US early am.
- Karen (10/5): - For a budget friendly place it was just right for myself and my daughter. Close to lots and lots of restaurants and cafes, and an easy walk to all the metros. The front desk was staffed 24/7, which was nice to have someone to call on if we had questions or got stuck in the city and needed some information.
- Igor (10/5): - Nice small hotel right close to the Bastille metro station. Lots of restaurants nearby. Very friendly staff. Room was nice.
- Rach (8/5): - We really liked La Bastille. The area is lively, but perhaps a bit too much for us, as we couldn’t sleep due to the noise from the adjacent nightclub and bistos. However, the room was comfortable, and the mattresses were of very good quality. The service was excellent. The location is ideal – very central, and you can either walk or take the metro to get anywhere around the city.
I loved the Sunday market next by. It is a must-see for anyone.
- Natalie (10/5): Best staff! - I was there for a 3 day trip and just needed a room for myself to sleep. Though it wasn't very big, it was clean and exactly what I needed. Value was good for what I paid. I did want to write this review, however, because the one hotel staff (curly hair gentleman) was absolutely delightful! He was so friendly, and remembered my name. I would honestly stay here again just for the customer service. He was a gem! Location to the metro was also perfect and I was able to easily navigate around Paris.
- Sarah (8/5): - Great location. Friendly staff.
Basic room needs updating.
- Patricia (8/5): - Good room for a reasonable price. Great location and friendly staff!
- Eduardo (10/5): - I liked the view from my floor , Level 4
- Susan (10/5): Great hotel near Bastille - 4 nights in a room for 3 adults with a double and single bed. Was great!!
- Allison (2/5): - Worst hotel room, like a prison cell. No hot water.
- Elise (6/5): - Very much a 'get what you pay for experience' - the price and location were both fantastic. We booked a double room and arrived late on our first night. When we got to our room (first floor) I was very unhappy after the busy day and travel. The room was very clean but absolutely tiny, with only a small space down one side of the double bed to manoeuvre. There was a cupboard on the left of the double bed by the head space which clearly housed a water pipe or similar - everytime someone flushed or used their bathroom we'd hear the water rush by our heads. The noise from above and behind due to the staircase was unbelievable. It was so tiny we couldn't even open the suitcase, and the decor was shabby and dated. The bathroom was like an airplane toilet, tiny and plastic. After the first night I complained and to their credit, reception were very quick to get us moved into another double room, on the second floor. What a difference! This room had a bit more space around the bed, the decor was modern and fresh and the bathroom was lovely. I appreciate the staff going out of their way but was shocked that you can pay the same rate and get a completely different room experience. Unfortunately the issues with noise were exactly the same even after the move. I wouldn't stay again but it was fine for 3 nights.
- Tom (6/5): Basic with no mod cons. - You get what you pay for and we didn't pay that much so can't really expect a lot. It was very basic. Even with the heater on the room was freezing. But the beds were comfy, the shower worked and the rooms were serviced daily.
- Seve Lester Caraig (8/5): - Best location. Rooms are a bit small but price is really good for what you are getting.
- Renu (10/5): - Great place to stay. Good rooms with a great location!
- Rey Julius (10/5): - Just right for a stay in Paris
- Yacell Azar (10/5): Nice Hotel - Hotel en una zona buena, encuentras de todo cerca y buen ambiente
- Molly (10/5): - Convenient location, clean hotel, excellent and kind staff. I would certainly stay here again and I would highly recommend Hotel Daval to my friends! The location was great for getting around Paris easily. The elevator is small, but it was fine for us. The staff were all so friendly and kind. It was an enjoyable stay.
- Lisney (8/5): - Good place for the price ! Short walk to the metro, a lot of restaurants nearby .
- Nicola (8/5): Would happily stay again. - Chose this hotel because I like the area and the hotel price was good.
Easy to find by several metro, bus or train station nearby. Friendly, welcoming and polite check in.
Tiny 3 person lift. So cute! Agile on our feet so 3rd floor isn't an issue for us.
Stairs and corridors were clean and tidy. Room was compact for sure but actually well proportioned we thought, but we only had backpacks. Plugs and bedside table right next to the bed.
Bathroom was spotless with body/hair/ handwash provided. Also a hairdryer. Shower was great.
Our room faced onto the street which isn't a busy traffic street but at times human noise was rather loud, did disturb our sleep BUT this was only the Friday night and NOT the fault of the hotel. If I was to stay here again I will ask for a room facing the back.
Did not eat breakfast here as there is a place we like to frequent nearby.
Everything you could need is on the doorstep.
24hour reception. Staff were always there and always nice.
Would happily stay again.
- Mark (6/5): - Room was smaller than I thought but it was quiet and served the purpose!
- Matthew (10/5): - Would stay again. Great value.
Close to Metro and restaurants.
Elevator is really tiny though, so sent my luggage in the elevator and walked the stairs.
- Dominique (8/5): - The staff here was amazing! Every one of them was so nice and helpful. The room itself was very small but it was very clean and in good condition. We were rarely in the room so the size of it didn’t matter to us. The location was good in my opinion. There were 3 metros right next to us so travel was easy. There were also several restaurants and safe and grocery stores. It was a very lively area which made the experience so authentic and fun! With how lively it was outside though we couldn’t hear a thing in our rooms so that was nice! This hotel was a great stay especially for the price!
- Brandon (10/5): - I stayed here for four nights and was really impressed by the value. The room was simple, but very clean. The staff were also all friendly and helpful. And the location was very convenient for getting to lots of restaurants and shops, as well as the Bastille metro stop just a couple blocks away.
- Miriam (10/5): - Love the location!
Love the hotel!!!
Also, has elevator, air conditioner!!!
Would come back!
- Joanne (6/5): - Not a great location, very small, I would say too small!! I did not like the hotel at all especially for the price paid for it. Very noisy at night with no soundproofing so every little bit of noise is heard. Would not stay again.
- Weining (10/5): - Firstly very friendly staff welcoming me after a long day at Paris Games. Room was compact but felt like home - clean, tidy and air conditioned. The hotel is close to major metro stations and have various dining options just across the street. Can’t find any fault about this place.
- Craig (10/5): Lovely hotel in a great location. - Really enjoyable stay in a great location in the heart of the Bastille area. Staff very friendly and the room was clean and tidy. Would stay again.
- Andrey (10/5): - Good location, like everything)
- Clementine (10/5): Nice location - Very nice hotel, great location.
The room wasn’t spacious due to the age of the building but the confort was excellent.
Very friendly and helpful staff
- Lisa (10/5): - Property is very modern and clean. Staff is so friendly and helpful! Loved the area, cafes and other food/drink shops and 2 metro stations very close to get you wherever you need to go. Some noise from the street can be heard at night but that isn’t the hotel’s fault, didn’t bother me or keep me from sleeping.
- Emily (8/5): - Stayed here during the Olympics. Very clean, fresh towels everyday which was a nice touch. Small and compact but we weren’t spending a lot of time in it so it was suitable. Reception helpful. We had a room at the front of the hotel on the street so it was quite noisy at night due to bars surrounding the hotel.
- Irina (10/5): Enjoy your stay - Great location, very clean, friendly staff
- Frankie (10/5): - Excellent
- Maria (8/5): - Homeless and dirty
- Bernard Dela Cuesta (10/5): - Very small but no e staff and clean and near public transportatin and restaurants
- Veronica (6/5): - The hotel is ok for 2 stars, very clean however the noise from outside its terrible. People party on the street and it really wakes you up. To be honest also walls are so thin you can hear conversations …. And everything in between to the room next door. We got terrible neighbours that kept us up all night with their night time activities. We could even feel the bed moving along with them!!! It was unbearable. We couldn’t sleep for 2 nights!!!
- Christiana (10/5): - Great location and friendly staff!
- Megan (10/5): Would stay here again. - This is a fantastic, clean, affordable hotel. There is some street noise that you’ll hear, but it didn’t impact my sleep or my children’s. If you’re a light sleeper though, this may not be the hotel for you. For us, we will definitely stay here again.
- Lynsay (10/5): - Absolutely loved my stay at hotel Daval and will be for sure staying again great location / area and has great eatiers and great transport links
- jaune-marie (6/5): - Area is fairly good. Lot's of eateries and close to station for travel. Room was tiny! Hardly space for a suitcase.
- Martin (2/5): - This is an awful hotel in a bad area - was dirty and felt unsafe. Pictures are not what it is actually like. Avoid. I didn’t even stay - left straight away!
- Michael (6/5): - The bathroom smelled a bit. Elevator is very small. On the other hand, the location was great.
- Celesthe (6/5): - The room is standard and clean. Notice that there is no access to a hairdryer.
Breakfast "bufeet" is only access to some baguette, cheese, jam, croissant, coffee and hot water
- charlotte (6/5): Very good - A good spot for accessing the metro and very close to the centre of Paris. Good for a short city break. Bathroom was clean but a bit small. Lovely staff.
- Colin (10/5): - Staff was amazing! The area is near a large bar/food district so lots of people outside on the street near by can cause a lot of noise late into the night especially on weekends.
- Ratan (10/5): - Great location and lots of eating options.
- Cidi (8/5): - A simple basic stay in a convenient location in the heart of Paris. Fansy beat the price.
- jackie (4/5): - Very small room, Bathroom very tiny. (Like airplane bathrooms) shower super small!! No coffee maker or tea kettle. Beds need new mattress. Location was nice close to metros and buses. Will not stay in this hotel unless you’re traveling by your self. (Hallway to the room super narrow.
- Herbert (6/5): - Clean
- Rafael (6/5): - It’s a ok hotel for the price
The hotel need an update ASAP
- Mark (10/5): - Great location for Paris. Close to central Metro stations for access to the whole of Paris with ease. Room was fairly small, but perfectly clean and modern. Reception team were really friendly and helpful..even at 2am! Very lively location with bars that open into early hours. Recommeneded for a functional budget option.
- Margaret (10/5): Good Temperature in room and water - We stayed as 3 single women, so triple room. Met our needs. Quick walk to metro. A bit noisy on Sat. Night but settled down at reasonable time. Very close to market on Sunday. Safe in room is a plus. Bathroom was clean and fresh with good water pressure.
- Verified traveler (8/5): cozy stay - Room was pretty small, but clean and functional with very fast internet. Location of the hotel is good if you are a tourist in Paris.
- Verified traveler (6/5): I wouldn’t stay again. - Very convenient location and very clean room. Beyond that I cannot recommend this hotel. It is in a small a very noisy street with clubs and bars open until time 2am. The room was very small and claustrophobic. The curtains didn’t close properly, so no black-out and no privacy. The air conditioning did not work (there was only a tiny wall heater). Being on the first floor the toilet waste pipe from all the rooms on the floors above passed through a cupboard about 1m from my head when in the bed, so combined with the noise from the street and the sunlight at dawn I had very poor sleep for 4 nights! To cap things off the hotel overcharged me for city tax on arrival (and I believe not in a mistaken way!) and I am still having to chase a refund through my bank. I won’t be staying again and I suggest you don’t either.
- Karl (10/5): - Great little bakery just down the street. Close to Metro. Comfortable beds. Nice shower.
- Dana (10/5): - Hotel daval is a budget hotel in a trendy party area. It is clean inside - modern and rooms are reasonably sized. The staff actually helped my kids and I to the corner of the street when we needed to get a taxi. in the rain!
It’s important to know this area of bastille is bustling so if u r in Paris to party this is a great place for a reasonable price. Safe and has nice eateries across the road. request a higher floor if you want an early night in.
- Gene (10/5): - Cleanliness, conviviality and calmness in the midst of a very active neighborhood of boutiques, cafes, diverse restaurants, bars and creative arts venues, day and night! Friendly staff !
- Patrick (10/5): Great budget hotel. Excellent location. - Clean and friendly hotel at an excellent location near the fun 11th arrondissement and Le Marais neighborhood. Room is small but spotless, and at an excellent price point for the neighborhood in the off season. Plenty of excellent patisseries and third wave coffee shops nearby, and a mix of funky and traditional eateries.
- Benedict (8/5): - Near multiple Metro stop makes this a convenient location especially if you’re coming from Gare de l’Est station. Close to Richard Lenoir Thur / Sunday farmers market if you’re looking for local foods. Right around the corner from excellent bakery (aux 2 angels), get your pastries fix there.
Hotel itself is dated in decor and low on amenities, but acceptable for its price and location. Front desk is friendly and helpful, you can leave your luggage there for the day after you check out which makes it handy to go around Paris if you have a late train or flight to catch.
- Kyle (10/5): - Great budget hotel in a great area. Easily access to multiple metro lines, easy 20 minute walk to the city center. Bastille itself is also a very lively nightlife area.
Rooms were small but clean and comfortable. They are doing some renovations on the lower floors, so improvements coming!
- Edward (10/5): Perfect for the solo traveler - After reading some of the complaints:
1. The elevator is tiny but it’s very common for tiny elevators to be installed in older buildings that were built before elevators existed.
2. The stairs are narrow and dark but hardly a death trap.
3. The rooms are small but this is standard in almost any hotel in Paris unless you have booked a deluxe $500 per night room.
Overall the staff was wonderful. I was in a great location and my room and the horel were very clean. I would definitely come back here for another solo trip.
- Anthony (10/5): 100% recommended - Fantastic location with many bars and cafes nearby. Lift access to all floors. Comfortable beds. Great WiFi connection
The room was quiet and so was the street considering it's off 2 busy streets.
Staff were super friendly and helpful
- Michele (8/5): - Very well situated and my room overlooked a charming rear courtyard. The bathroom and the lift a bit small as is the room so as long as you don't have too much baggage it's perfect. Such a typical part of Paris, you walk out your door and boom, charming streets and cafes.
- Eva (6/5): - it was like very normal experience
- Brad (10/5): - The street is a bit noisy. But everything else about the hotel was great.
- ? (10/5): - Close to the metro, walkable distance to louvre, notre dame. Clean room.
- Joy (10/5): - Based on our initial impression, we wouldn’t have rated this hotel high at all, but we misjudged it. Since they were full, we weren’t able to get the room we booked the first night. The first room didn’t suit our needs and it was rather noisy. In fact, we hardly slept at all.
That all changed the next night. The staff moved us to a different room the second night. It suited our needs perfectly, and was very quiet. We slept like babies. The property is old, but they strive to maintain what they have. There was a soft spot in the floor in our room. The first night, there were also several hairs on the bedding. They were not in the inside though - just on the outside. Other than that, both rooms we stayed in were very clean. There is an elevator, but it is very small. Just keep that in mind.
The location is quite convenient to getting around in Paris. You can get breakfast there, but we didn’t eat there. There are plenty of restaurants within a block of the hotel.
The staff was absolutely wonderful. They definitely strive hard to accommodate their guests needs and make their stay excellent. I can’t speak highly enough about them. They stored our luggage for us on the last day of our stay, which was very convenient for us. Upon first impression, we wouldn’t have recommended this hotel, but after that first night, we did a complete 180. We really enjoyed our stay there and can definitely recommend this hotel to other travelers.
- Teresa (10/5): - Great location, and clean hotel, and no carpets in the room (thank you!). The room was small but very functional. The staff was very helpful.
- Pablo (8/5): - Great location. Friendly staff. Very clean. Just a bit noisy at night.
- Myah (6/5): - Fine place if you’re only going a few nights. Nothing special. Definitely be wary that there are super loud fights in the street outside on the weekends.
- Lucy (10/5): Great front desk staff! - We were pleased with our stay at this hotel. Everything was clean, and in a good neighborhood to walk to the metro, or get to anywhere else in Paris, the front desk clerk was so very helpful and gracious with all of our needs, we appreciated her smile and willingness to answer our many questions. We were able to leave our bags there before check-in the first day and after checking out the next day to explore more of Paris before leaving for the airport. This was a budget hotel that suited all of her needs.
- Brian (10/5): Local hotel near Bastille - Superb location, very comfortable, easy and friendly check-in, good
- Mojtaba Arabi (8/5): - That was ok
- Kathy (10/5): Pleased with our stay - Having read previous reviews I was a little hesitant but really shouldn’t have been. The hotel was very clean, comfortable and just what we needed for our stay. Our room faced the courtyard so no issues with noise. The area was lively but we felt very safe. Easy to get to from the metro and staff were helpful with any enquiry we had. Would definitely book there again.
- simona (10/5): - Great staff, well equipped room, centrally located, quiet and super clean.
- Christina (6/5): - I recommend requesting a room on the 4th floor facing the courtyard. If your room is facing the street, the noise of the street will bother you. The area is known to be quite rowdy and late night shenanigans. We had to change our room, after the second night because the sewer smell from the toilet was unbearable. The hotel offered no discount for the inconvenience of having to spend our time packing up our things and waiting several hours to be directed to another room. The hair dryer in the second room malfunctioned and the hotel offered no solution or discount. The rooms and bathrooms are clean but extremely small. Very minimal decor, nor comfort, no fridge, no coffee machine. It was absolutely overpriced and underwhelming. The staff however was exceptionally nice and helpful. One morning the hotel couldn’t prepare the breakfast and we had to wait 45 min, another day the milk was badly spoilt and they did offer a credit. The croissants are divine, it’s a reasonable $9 for breakfast, simple but good. The elevator fits maximum 2 slim people. The stairway and corridors are very very narrow and claustrophobic. Would I stay at Hotel Daval again? No, because the price is far too high for what they offer.
- Satya (2/5): - It was unbelievably noise, shouting and fighting all night. Could not sleep even a wink. And they refused to refund, horrible place and staff. Never again, you guys should remove this hotel from your list.
- Vasty (10/5): - We loved the location. It was a typical small but clean room. We were comfortable and will be back next time. Lots of restaurants nearby
- Javier (10/5): - Great stay
- Sharon (8/5): - We bookwd for 2 nights. First night the air conditioner wasn't working. We opened the windows but then it noisy...close the windows, it got hot. Therefore our sleep was interrupted and our stay was uncomfortable.
Next day, we asked for a change of rooms or get the ac fixed. After we waited we were presented with a room..we just collected the keys and transfer our stuff and left as we had meetings to attend. We came back late and when we tried to sleep, the samething happened with ac. We give up as it was late.
Luckily, the new room was facing the back, so it was less noisy and we were able.to get some breeze and some sleep to awaken at 5am to leave for another flight.
- Patricia (10/5): Highly recommended! - Hotel.Daval was a great.place to stay in a lovely, central area with everything you need to hand and Bastille is a great location for exploring Paris. The room seemed newly refurbished and well designed for maximum comfort in a small space. It was very clean and all staff pleasant and helpful. I had a single room; the bed was comfortable and there was desk space with a chair, enough room for a suitcase and to hang some clothes and a safe for valuables. The wet room was well designed and hot water whenever I needed it. The windows opened, when closed the noise of the pretty lovely street was blocked. There was a heater (not needed for my May visit) but I didn't see any air conditioning, that might be a problem mid summer.
- Danielle (10/5): - I would stay here again in a heart beat! Fabulous lively neighborhood, two nearby subway stations and bus huts, lots of restuarants to choose from. The room was lovely and quiet. I would have liked to have two extra pillows (there was one). The breakfast room was good with lots of goodies, although I did miss having a "coffee" machines.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel was located at a convenient area for transportation and restaurants. The receptionists were very kind. However, we got a small room that was facing the street in a very bar-heavy area. We could hear people talking and barfing and gagging, and cars driving by well into the early morning hours. The room was very small and hard to walk if you have a lot of luggages.
