Guest Reviews
- Omar (2/5): - No elevators
Overpriced food menu
Noisy
No one speaks English
- Kyle (2/5): - The reviews for this hotel are either paid for or written by friends and cousins, because they’re extremely misleading.
Located in the ghetto. Wi-Fi doesn’t work in rooms farther down the hall. Only street parking is available. The toilet in our first room was basically just a decoration — it wasn’t even connected to the floor. No way a worker didn’t notice that. The rooms are right next to residential houses, so you’ll hear loud banging, dogs barking, and trucks that sound like they’re falling apart.
There were construction workers lounging outside—literally lying on the sidewalk and the stairs leading into the building—smoking cigarettes and watching cars like they were waiting for a chance to steal.
- Mario (4/5): - Dirty room ,black hair everywhere , view of a filthy concrete wall two feet out, charging in US dollars when conversion was to be in Canadian dollars and only the manager spoke some English. Room was extremely small.Stay away and don’t get overcharged!
- Susan (10/5): - Staff are always friendly and helpful.
- Michael (10/5): - No
- Guillermo (10/5): sanjo calm - Me encanta este lugar por lo intimo tipo boutique, ricos desayunos y un terraza pacifica
- Steve (8/5): - The posada taranova, it's a very original authentic older hotel and has a very good restaurant in it. And the staff are very kindly, and it's especially close to the Central area. So we do recommend it
- Gloria (8/5): - Staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel is older so some things dont work so so well, likecshower and tiolet.
- Liudmila (8/5): - The hotel is right on the border of the tourist area. So we were able to have the best from the both worlds: breakfast and lunch from the public market and coffee, dinner and drinks from the art and tourist district. 35 minutes of a plesand walk to the beach (it was January, it can be hot in other seasons).
Breakfast and lunch at the hotel were OK if you like that sort of food. It was quite busy on Sunday because the place is popular with locals.
Hotel has its charm: built in traditional style with tile, stucco and dark wood. Somewhat crumbled bathroom. Shower head certainly in need of upgrade.
Next to the public market there is a laundry and we were able to wash our clothes just for 100 pesos for a bag.
Hotel personal was helpful. They called taxi to take us to the airport and helped with our luggage.
- Steve (6/5): Ok for basic/cheap place to sleep - The hotel is very basic. That's ok though. It's already very cheap. The room is very.... Crude as far as construction and materials. The bed was very comfortable though. Also the breakfast was good.
- Carolyn (2/5): - I did not stay, toilet was leaking all over floor, fridge not working, stains all over bed spread, it was awful.
- Cynthia (10/5): - Great place to stay in the centro
- Gary (4/5): - It was $700 pesos more than they gave me online
The water was barely warm
- Cynthia (10/5): - Great!!
- Benedict (10/5): - The hotel was perfect for our stay. Staff friendly, accommodations were nice, proximity to downtown excellent. Great value!
- PADMA (8/5): - Friendly folks in thr restaurant, excellent breakfast menu, easy check in. Super close to plaza Mijares.
I didn’t realize how basic this hotel would be from the reviews. All rooms need to be significantly updated.
- Carilene (6/5): - The location of the property is excellent if you’re looking to be close to the main square - about a five minute walk. It was a 20 minute walk to Walmart and just over 10 minutes to walk to the bus stop to get to Cabo San Lucas. It was VERY convenient!
The outdoor restaurant inside the hotel offered excellent service and a beautiful setting. I had breakfast there most days and loved sitting in the outdoor area after it closed in the evening.
The area around the hotel was very safe and quiet overnight. The staff were also quite helpful. I had to switch rooms though because I couldn’t get wifi in my first room. The second room had strong wifi but it was right beside another building which meant no natural light. There were a couple of issues though - the cold water shower faucet handle fell off, and the smoke detector started beeping in the middle of the night because it needed replacing. Initially the security guard wasn’t going to help me with the smoke detector but I begged him - it was 4am and I needed sleep.
The rooms were very basic but the bed and pillows were comfortable, and there was warm water.
- Peter (10/5): Great Place to Stay ! - I was extremely with the Hotel Posada. Super clean, definitely Mexican in style, friendly staff especially the lady receptionist. The bed was really comfortable and the pillows so good that I wanted to buy one. I hope the Costco back here in Calgary has the same ones.
- Sally (10/5): - Good consistency I use often for short stays
- Sally (10/5): Reliable Consistency and Good Price - This is a great downtime hotel we go to when we are here for business or stop over
Relaxing close to square and excellent
Big Breakfast
- Mirian (10/5): - Jsnsmsndnnd
- Cheryl (6/5): - Very pleasant people, 3 mins walk from Art District, hotel needs serious updating but does provide comfortable and clean bed and pillows, constant hot water. Breakfast available daily. No frills but not a bad experience.
- samuel (4/5): - AC not work with the remote. I reported to front desk clerk who spoke no English, and maybe not much spanish. Never did get it to work. So luckily it was not too hot with just setting the fan. Desk clerk only understood "No" and cared less if we got any help. Other personnel at the hotel were very helpful (cleaning ladies, restaurant staff).
- Robert (6/5): Location Good, the Rest Very Average - It’s a good location, the outdoor patio is usually very quiet, but if you can avoid it, don’t get Rooms 10 or 12. Both are next to the hotel laundry which goes virtually 24/7 and is really noisy.
Breakfast is not included and for what it is, expensive. Also no ice available. Be prepared for a wait at checking in, the internet is slow and the two who checked us in looked and acted like they’d rather be somewhere else.
Our room needed a serious upgrade. Light bulbs that actually shed light might be a start.
I know it’s San Jose and touristy, but for no amenities it’s overpriced. You’re paying for a central location.
- Brandon (8/5): - It is a nice little hotel conveniently located. Short walk to shops & restaurants. The area is rather noisy all night long. I love dogs, but the neighbor's dog barking every 45 min. right outside our window all night was a bit much! lol. Considering it was a one night stay till our flight the next day. I’d consider staying there again. Keep your expeditions realistic considering the area.
- Jose (4/5): - Televisión and air conditioning not working
- dennis (10/5): - Excellent place for the money. Great location. Breakfast at restaurant was excellent
- Vladimir (10/5): - Nice staff.
- Raven (10/5): - Quaint and quiet
- sylvia (8/5): - Good hotel with comfy beds. Lots of noises from dogs barking at night.
- Sushanth (10/5): - Excellent location in downtown san jose del cabo. Walkable to the plaza and lots of restaurants. The staff was very accommodating in terms of requests despite language barrier.
- Michelle (8/5): - Hotel Posada Terranova is an excellent budget option. The location is perfect! Just steps from the centre of the art district and some seriously fabulous restaurants and culture.
This property is fairly quiet considering how close it is to the art district. Even on Thursday nights when the streets fill with people for the art walk, it was relatively quiet. Yes, there are a few neighborhood dogs that occasionally bark, and sometimes you can hear people out in the hallway or guests slamming doors (room doors and doorframes are wood so they close loudly) but I found it quieter than expected and slept well.
The beds are advertised as queen size, but they're doubles. They're quite short so our feet hung off the edge. Mattresses are quite worn and no longer very firm, but the pillows are really nice.
Rooms aren't fancy, but they're clean! Room and hallways always smelled fresh. Sheets changed daily. A/C was tough to figure out, but it did keep the room very cool!
No fan or window in the bathroom. Shower pressure was good and there was usually hot water.
The hotel restaurant has some great Mexican breakfast options. We ate there a couple times and enjoyed everything we ordered. Staff is very kind. I don't think many of them speak English and my Spanish is terrible so it was a bit challenging to communicate, but they were patient with me and we made it work!
Overall I'm very happy with our stay. Facilities are outdated, but they're clean, and the location is hard to beat!
- Gloria (10/5): - Great location and good basic accommodations.
- Andrew (8/5): - Central location is excellent close to everything. Wonderful Staff. Nice Rooms comfortable, good shower. Lovely Breakfasts in the morning.
- Lizbeth (8/5): - Adequate for a 2 night stay. Reasonable rate, close to the action in town
- Jose (4/5): - Room was dirty!
- Ellen (8/5): - The hotel was in a good location so we could walk to shopping and the art walk. The rooms were clean and they offered a good breakfast menu. Staff were very friendly and the rooms had air conditioning. The rooms are very basic.
- Susan (10/5): - Great location. Friendly & helpful staff.
- Karen (4/5): - Two star at the most great location but nothing else
- Allen (8/5): - Close to centro
- Elvia (8/5): - Location was perfect, food was great at the restaurant inside and staff were very nice. Room was a little outdated but clean. The only complaint I have is the bed. The bed is not comfortable at all!
- Hector Francisco (8/5): - Great location. Clean. Economic. Unpretentious. A great value for your money if you want to stay in downtown San Jose del Cabo
- Maria (10/5): - A perfect hotel near the airport.
- Kevan (10/5): - Pleasant
- Guillermo (10/5): - I have been going to Terranova for 13 years… simple hotel room with air conditioning …. The restaurant used to have alot of traffic , but after COVID it lost its popular attraction… I love this place as a simple place to enjoy time in Los Cabos/San Jose
- Jorge (8/5): - Let be truthful for the money cost and the location close to everything in San José del Cabos. A 5 star rating for location
- Jack (10/5): - Quiet, good sized room, friendly staff, good neighborhood for walking
- Byron (8/5): - It is an ok place to stay a night
- Sally (8/5): - Nice simple hotel good for business trip for us
- sarah (10/5): - This is in a great location near the art market and great inexpensive restaurants. We did not get back in the car till we needed to go to the airport.
Recommended!
- Sheri (4/5): - Our room felt like a cave. I could not open the blinds because of the lack of privacy and the awful view.We could not get wifi in our room. There was no fan in the bathroom. The floor in the bathroom had black mold from the moisture.
- John (8/5): - Close to town centre
- Timothy James (8/5): - Basic room. Had an authentic charm. Clean. You get what you pay for.
- Stan (4/5): A good try, but no second stay - Hotel showing its age. No washcloths, only hand towels. Everything clean (except the bed coverlets and blankets that we didn’t use), but REALLY worn. Loud music and dog barking continued until very late. Steep, narrow stairs to 2nd floor - difficult with suitcase. Restaurant (separate entity) had great service, but so-so food value. Nice walk to town center.
- Shamaray (10/5): - Very safe area. The square is walking distance and they had delicious food nightly. Staff was welcoming and always available.
- Patricia (4/5): - Staff was lovely and breakfast was good but neither the fan or air conditioning in the room worked. We tried to check out a day early and as we booked with Expedia they gave us permission to cancel our last night. However the hotel wouldn’t let us cancel the last night even with Expedias permission. Very noisy with dogs barking all night which is not the hotels fault but made for very poor sleeping.
- Garth (8/5): Great short term stop - Great location, it’s not a fancy place but beds were great and it is clean. Perfect for a couple of nights stay.
- Fred (10/5): - Great staff, excellent breakfast (not free, but worth the $), easy walk to restaurants, bars, shops.
- Heather (10/5): - Friendly service.
- Glenn (8/5): - the property was simple, could get breakfast there and that was it. Staff was very nice. Room was a little dated and could be improved. Lots of amenities nearby.
- Loreen (10/5): - The premises is great. Staff are fabulous. We stayed in Unit#11, a suite which they upgraded for us due to stairs. Located in a great area, with some great dining $-$$. It is hilly and usual messed up sidewalks. We checked out other stays while here and this place is a gem by comparison. A couple blocks to main square, 30 minute walk to Walmart, 20 minute walk to the water. Would stay again!!
- Denise (8/5): - Easy checkin process. Low price. Close to airport which is why we spent our last there as we had an early morning flight. Walking distance to art festival and restaurants. No hot water was my only negative but it had been chilly the week prior and I imagine they needed hotter weather to heat water tanks. Beds were comfortable and room was clean.
- Antonea (6/5): - The location is perfect and staff was wonderful. The hotel itself is older and mine had a musty smell in the room. There was construction against my room wall1st morning, that started around 8am. It shows they are working to improve. The beds were clean and comfortable with comfy pillows. Shower and water worked well and warm. They have a very convenient restaurant there that has good food and prices. I felt very safe and will stay here again as the pricing is good for what you get.
- Lawrence (8/5): - it was cool. The Ranchero steak was good.
- Crystal (8/5): - Location is great. Quick walk to the square etc. staff was very kind and helpful. the restaurant appeared to make great breakfast but we checked out early so did not eat there. The actual room was a bit rough as beds were small, room was dark, bathroom was in need of a super cleaning. All in all it was a fine stay.
- James (2/5): - TV was not working. Loud music from noon to 11 pm a clothing store behind the hotel, a dog barking all night long next door.
Blinds did not open, very uncomfortable bed.
Only thing, good breakfast first day, but very slow service.
- Kevin (8/5): - Ok
- Roger (8/5): - Pros: Decent beds, sheets seemed clean and the pillows were remarkably comfy. The staff was very nice and helpful.
Cons: The beds were advertised as queen but they were not - they were doubles. The doors and door locks seemed very inadequate.
If you need a decent place to stay for a night, this is perfect. If you are expecting any type of luxury, this is not the place. The neighborhood seemed safe but there were annoying neighbors playing music and shooting fireworks until about 3am (this was Xmas day). The room had spots that were dusty so the cleaning crew could do a little better job.
- Catherine (6/5): - It’s not k for the most part. Just a little old and funky but I think it is nice and safe and clean enough
- pattie (8/5): - Good walking location. Parking right in front of hotel. Nice staff.
- Leo (8/5): - Older type property but great location. Rooms were clean enough, staff and service were great. The restaurant makes awesome breakfast, it's a bit pricier than other small local places in town, but good traditional food. Good price-value overall!
- Jesper (6/5): - OK but not the best.
- Irma (4/5): - wi-fi/internet did not work. Closet door broken. Very few closet hangers. Good location. Not a good value. Wanted to cancel last night because of lack of internet connection; was told to contact Expedia—Expedia webpage said to contact hotel. Disappointed!!!
- Carlos (10/5): - Great
- Violeta (8/5): - Its a budget hotel. Good A/C. Good breakfast. Beds are comfortable. It had what we needed. There are a few estetics that i didnt mind.
- Robin (10/5): - I love this little gem. My stay this last week was superb. From the Frobt desk Clerks, who set me up with Uber. Checked me in daily as My staytime changed every am,,everyday. The maids who were gracious and thorough, to the morning waiter who jumped my car battery, to the Security man on outside duty who always was helpful in finding me a spot to park. 5dtars to the employees thx again Robin
- Inette Marie (6/5): - I did not like the location of this hotel. It was outside of my comfort zone.
- Thomas (10/5): - Clean and friendly
- Luisa (8/5): - Nice wood doors and decor even if an older building.
- Peter (8/5): - Pretty much as advertised. Good economy place to stay. No glasses in the room, no in room coffee, refrigerator, etc., They were doing construction next to my room beginning at 8:00, thankfully I was already awake. Staff was very nice, and helpful. Beds were comfortable
- Christine (8/5): - Excellent location forwalking to old town & gallery district. Staff very helpful &friendly. Peaceful restaurant & patio area.
- Harold (10/5): - Very clean and simple hotel. Staff very friendly and accommodating.
- Doris (8/5): - The hotel is very well located. It is reasonably priced for the area it is in. The room on the second floor has light and was nicer then the first floor room I first had. I thought it was nicer then the picture I saw on the internet over all. Nice restaurant, professional place. No hot water later on in the evening. I enjoyed the hotel very much.
- Yves (10/5): - The food for breakfast was perfectly prepared. The restaurant should be opened for lunch and dinner.
- Jason (10/5): - If you want an economical, clean, and friendly place within walking distance of Plaza Mijares and great restaurants, this hotel is perfect.
- Paul (6/5): - Great location nice bed. Problem was NO HOT Agua.
- John (8/5): Decent hotel needs a makeover - Decent hotel near art district. Old paint, spackle on the walls. No hot water, no view from window, construction next door. Breakfast not included, but very good. Decent return on cost in an expensive town.
- doug (8/5): Good place. - It's a great little hotel. As others have said it's centrally located. the breakfast is decent I enjoyed it the guys and girls that worked In the restaurant we're very nice. Everybody that worked in the hotel was very nice and friendly. The cons are. It's not much effort the place can be upgraded some paint Some new T v's and some English-speaking TV channels. Beds are comfortable but, The sheets are too small and don't fit the beds and constantly pulling out it's a little bit annoying. So if they did just a few minor renovations and upgrades the place would be awesome I will go and stay again.
- Joseph (8/5): - Property was old and reflective of construction, but clean.
- Rachel (8/5): Excellent location and value - This hotel has a fantastic breakfast restaurant that's a great value. You're less than 5 minutes walking from an area that is jam-packed with fun things to do, like visiting Baja Brewing Company. The rooms are kind of small and there's no mini fridge, but the staff are nice, the beds are comfortable, the AC is powerful, and there are always fresh towels!
- James (8/5): Good location in San Jose del Cabo - Cute hotel right downtown.
- Kathy (6/5): Older motel in town - Hotel is older and could use updating. Room was dark and only window faces a concrete wall about 5 ft away. Bed was soft and definitely older. Ceiling fan blades caked with dust and ac unit smelled when I turned it on for some air circulation. Breakfast was ordinary and a bit pricey for what it was.
- Zachary (10/5): - Good place for the price. Everything was clean and staff was friendly.
- Barry (10/5): - Location location location, right in the historic district. No frills place to crash, walk anywhere, etc
- Kerry (8/5): - Nice location for Art district.
- Nathan E (10/5): - I have NO complaints about this property at all!
It was clean. The staff was friendly. It was walking distance to all sorts of fantastic sites. And for the price?!?!
I would definitely stay here again.
- alvin (10/5): - The property was very nice and was very close to everything that I needed to see
- Valerie S (8/5): - For the price it was adequate, basic,. Restaurant was good, with large portions. Not far from the Art walk. Had construction going on.
