Guest Reviews
- Johann (6/5): - Beautiful Gholf coarse, bed needs new matras. But in general staff are very friendly, helpful.
- Julie (10/5): Stunning - This has been my favourite find so far. The location is stunning, environment relaxing, the staff are fantastic. I have enjoyed many return visits to dine in the lovely restaurant and to stay. The children feel this is like a home from home and treat some of the staff like family.
- Emma (10/5): - Stayed here as we had a wedding nearby. We were able to check in early and the room was very clean and a good size.
- Christine (8/5): - We liked everything about the property & surroundings. One annoying problem was sound of voices & doors closing outside our room in the corridor very late at night & very early in the morning.
- Delia (10/5): Cannot fault, would totally recommend - Cannot fault this hotel. From check in to check out all of the staff were friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. The whole experience was relaxing with amazing views over the golf course and the sea beyond. The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was so comfortable, slept like a log. The food in the restaurant was good value, cooked fresh and was well presented - delicious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent all round - Could not have been better.
- Julie (10/5): Spectacular - We enjoyed a fabulous stay. Thank you to all the staff. The children said they had the best night's sleep ever and enjoyed the best dinner ever. Everyone was so welcoming, friendly and helpful. The views are breathtaking and the relaxed environment left us feeling immediately at home. We are already planning our next visit. Thank you all once again.
- Michael (10/5): - We had a one night stay at Craigielaw. Thouroughly enjoyed our time there. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was spacious well equiped and spotless. We only had one breakfast, so cant comment on the dinner service, but we were very satisfied and would have no hesitation in recommending Craigielaw.
- ?? (10/5): - Very spacious and clean room. Great view by the sea. Not far from Edinburgh city centre. Definately a good option.
- Kelly (10/5): - Great place for a comfortable and relaxing over night stay with lovely breakfast.
- Sara (10/5): Perfect for a quiet weekend away - Beautiful hotel in lovely surroundings. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Booked to stay one night as we were attending an even locally but wish we had stayed the whole weekend.
The hotel is modern, clean and spacious. The rooms are well fitted out with thoughtful attention to detail.
The food in the restaurant was great quality with good portion sizes and very tasty.
I’d love to see an alternative to plastic single use milk portions and toiletries.
- Lorna (10/5): Excellent - Perfect location outside Edinburgh. Ideal for us visiting family locally. Charming staff and great views.
- Kelly (10/5): - Lovely place to stay. Very comfortable rooms, quiet surrounding. Lovely breakfast, very helpful and friendly staff.
- George (8/5): - Pleasant stay.
We were wary about staying at a golf course hotel (not being golfers) but we had a lovely stay.
Friendly staff, close to E Lothian towns, lovely evening meal, easy parking.
A good alternative to over priced Edinburgh hotels.
- PHILIP (10/5): - Lovely hotel in a beautiful spot. good facilities and very friendly staff.
- john (10/5): - Staff first class nothing a problem , we stayed one night wish we had stayed more, Room 4 excellent . Many thanks
- Marwa (10/5): - Very thankful for staff acknowledging the late check in and showing around. Explained clearly all aspects and Breakfast was lovely. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Friendly atmosphere with beautiful ocean view.
Enjoyed watching golf and would love to go back again. Felt safe and secure. Room was fully stocked and comfortable. Thank you.
- Donald (10/5): - Food was good
- Lynn (10/5): - Disappointed with breakfast considering the amount of money I was charged. I think if they knew the chefs were going to be off this should have reflected in the price I was charged. Vastly over pricey
- Dave (10/5): - EXCELLENT ALL ROUND.
- M (10/5): - Great stay, lovely room and attentive staff. Will definitely return.
- kenneth (10/5): - everything was fantastic for our family stay
- Alan (10/5): - Pleasant and friendly place to stay. Nice view and quiet. Breakfast was enjoyabe. Perfect for peaceful few days.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful
- Colin (10/5): - The room was spacious, clean and the views from tge rooms were spectacular. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. Can't wait to come back and maybe be able to enjoy what looks like a wonderful golf course.
- Stephen (10/5): - Great Friendly staff from arrival to departure.
- John Chesterfield (10/5): - The owners must have spent a lot of money on this premises, decor was excellent, service was excellent.
Great staff and nothing was to difficult for them. We were impressed wih the food and the rooms were outstanding including the beds.
I will consider returning to the lounge in the future, John C B
- Louis (10/5): - The location for golfers is excellent, plenty choice of golf course in the area.
- Margaret (10/5): A comfortable place to stay - Everything perfect until we went to shower and found previous guest's soap residue on the wire shower basket!
Had to request a clean mug at breakfast- explanation was the tables were set when it was dark, so splashes couldn't be seen (Yes, really .... )
- Allan (10/5): - Absolutely lovely stay, great accommodations, great staff, great breakfast, excellent parking, safe secure
- James (10/5): - We loved everything about the stay. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The food and service are great and everyone was so welcoming
- Matt (10/5): Great place - Great modern facility. Awesome service
- Mandy (10/5): Beautiful - Absolutely beautiful place to stay. The room was very large and comfortable and spotlessly clean.
We had two meals at the restaurant and they were lovely.
The staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful.
All in all a great place to stay and I would highly recommend it to everyone.
- Andy (8/5): - The room we booked overlooked the river forth and was so peaceful. Food amazing! Room so fresh and inviting! Maybe just a firmer mattress.
- Sean (10/5): - Arrived very late, wonderfully warm welcome. Quick check in, nice room, good breakfast.
Flying visit but hope to return and spend a bit more time in the area.
- Lorna (10/5): Fantastic option for the area. - No idea how they can do, what they do for the price!!
Excellent in every way.
- Simone (4/5): Would have left if I wasn't staying with family - The hotel is nice. The rooms are spacious and clean. But the bed was atrocious. You could feel every spring. I slept for 1h before waking up with back pain. After trying to layer every duvet and blanket on top of the mattress, my partner went to reception to find us another room. The room we were given was sleepable, but the mattress was sloping and I had to place a pillow on my side so I wouldn't roll out of it. If I wasn't staying with more people, we would have left and probably slept in the car and I think we would have slept better. The people on the other room also complained of their bed. Breakfast was cold and generic. There were two girls and a guy waiting, but only the guy seemed to be working and running to serve everyone while the girls stood at the bar watching. We ran out of coffee, juice, sugar, milk, eggs, bacon.. and there wasn't much of a rush in replacing it. My brother was meant to be staying there next week.. I told him to find somewhere else. Wouldn't go back if it was the only place left. The car and a garage coffee would have been better.
- Robert R (8/5): - Very pleasant stay
- Marie (10/5): Our stay at Craigielaw - Lovely room, cosy and warm. Lovely views. All staff very helpful. Food was superb. Not been since before Covid but will certainly be back.
- Karen (8/5): - Very friendly staff, excellent customer service and fantastic food. However, the bedrooms were tired and in need of a makeover. Beds were uncomfortable.
- HUGH (10/5): - Great venue, rooms superb, staff excellent, was great having breakfast overlooking the course and the Firth. Also great value, we will definitely be coming back.
- Colin (10/5): - A unique hotel on a great golf course ideal both for anyone playing golf or just getting away from it all
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value - Stayed for 1 night. Had dinner, drinks and breakfast in the hotel. Polite staff. Dinner was superb. Could have been offered a breakfast menu (we did ask but none), as my partner ordered eggs Benedict and it came with avocado instead of bacon/ham which he would not have ordered. Would stay again however. No issues. Lovely location and parking on site.
- Guy (10/5): - Stunning location with very friendly and welcoming staff.
Only a small number of rooms so great service. It was very quiet plus the room had just been redecorated and the new carpet smelt lovely!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hotel, great! Service, not so great. - The Lodge is done to a high standard and has a great restaurant.
Our room, was spacious, warm and done to high standard.
Location is out of the way but maybe that's what some people are looking for and of course if you are looking for a round of golf, the course looks amazing with some great views.
However, What let our experience down was the lack of customer service from the front desk.
We tried to contact the front desk on numerous occasions to ask for directions as our satnav was given us false directions.
When we found the hotel, we went inside to check in. There was no one at the front desk, just a small sign to direct us to go to the bar. We went to the bar and we were then told to go back to front desk and somebody would be with us in a minute. We found a young man checking us in to be quite rude and very unhelpful. When we said to him we had been trying to phone the front desk, he replied with “I’ve been too busy at the bar, I wouldn’t have answered the phone”
Once we had checked in, the staff member then asked us if we were going to dine with them for dinner, before we could answer, we were told that it was very busy and if we didn’t want to dine with him he would be we need to let him know now. He didn’t make us feel welcome atall. We understand that hotel dining can be busy however his tone was very dismissive and we were made to feel like an inconvenience.
Our negative experience is more down to the service upon checking in, and not the quality of the hotel.
- Katharine (10/5): Highly recommend - Beautiful hotel, modern and clean. Staff couldn’t have been lovelier, food was excellent
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely accommodation and very good service
- Emma (10/5): Fabulous weekend - Stunning place to spend our weekend, staff very friendly and couldn’t fault the food, delicious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great stay. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms very comfortable and clean. Good breakfast too!
- Francesca (10/5): Lovely stay - We booked a night here last minute as we had dinner booked at The Bonnie Badger in Gullane.
The staff were all really friendly, the room lovely clean and spacious with a nice hot powerful shower.
We both really enjoyed breakfast and both hope to come back!
- Tom (10/5): Winter break - We had an excellent stay, even the weather turned for the better. Views from our room were stunning. Definately to be recommended. Thank you to all the staff.
- LEChristie (10/5): - All staff professional and friendly. Enjoyable food...good range throughout the day. Locals use just for eating. Paid extra for room with view over golf course, worth it. Flat course with challenging raised greens. Weather was worst week of winter so golf was limited but good base to explore the surrounding areas North Berwick, Dunbar, Eyemouth, Berwick on Tweed. Lots of nearby excellent golf courses. Recommend
- Kirsty (10/5): - Very clean, friendly helpful staff and great food.
- Di (10/5): Fab stay - Lovely room, great service, very clean and comfortable
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great accommodation in a lovely setting. - Room was spacious and comfortable. All staff were pleasant and friendly.
Food was very good.
Lovely location and ample parking.
Overall, good value.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff could have been more pleasant. Rooms are clean but lack character
- Yvonne (10/5): - Hotel spot on,views fantastic,sevice A1,food very good.
- Shari (10/5): Father Son golfing in Scotland - Facility was clean and comfortable, people were super friendly and accommodating. Great stay in Scotland, I would enthusiasticly recommend!
- John (10/5): The Lodge at Craigielaw- a must for anyone - The Lodge at Craigielaw was a great place to stay in order to explore the area. Although very attractive to golfers I’d encourage anyone wanting quality accommodation not to overlook “The Lodge”. Food, service and views across the golf course all added to a wonderful couple of days.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely golf hotel, we stayed one night for a local wedding, the staff couldn't do enough for us. Excellent cooked breakfast too
- Robert (10/5): Business trip - I want to stay again
- Lyndsay (8/5): - Very pleasant hotel. When we arrived on Friday evening it seemed closed at reception as no one there. The taxi driver took us round and the bar staff saw us. Needs a comfy seat in reception and a better larger mat so the front area doesn’t get so dirty. Otherwise very pleasant - excellent dinner and helpful staff.
- Alby (10/5): - Pleasant and welcoming staff. Excellent sea views from the room.
- Alastair (8/5): East Lothian visit - Fully enjoyed our stay. Staff extremely helpful. Food well prepared and presented. Not too much to do locally unless you are a golfer. Marvellous location with view over golf course to the sea.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Golfers choice. - Rooms a good size, nice shower and bathroom. The poor WiFi and TV reception is hard to understand these days as its really an essential especially as the 4g is patchy in the area.
Good breakfast, but dinner menu a bit limited.
Ideal for groups of golfers, but it makes the combined bar/ restaurant a little bit rowdy if your out for a relaxing break.
- David (8/5): Will return . perfect for golf / business - An excellent three star hotel with several amazing Golf courses within a 20 minute drive. 10/10. Price range affordable and generally very good value. Breakfasts excellent but dinners average and need a little more imagination. Very good Indian restaurant in Aberlady. Staff were well led and very helpful. The fact remains the restaurant and function room was being used all nights and the large public room was constantly full between 6pm and later. Speaks volumes for the local community and the Hotel however difficult to relax informally and tended to be pushed back into bedroom to escape..Bad Wifi reception. Date of stay 22-26th January 2018
- Jacquie (10/5): Cheeky little find - Fabulous view , extremely clean and large room . Excellent and friendly staff . Great golf and excellent breakfast
- Stuart (10/5): Hidden Gem - We live locally and we stayed one night as we were moving house and wanted a rest between emptying one house filling the new one. We knew about the golf course but not about the accommodation. We were very impressed with the staff, the facilities and the cost.
- Caren (10/5): - Room was very clean. Food was delicious.
- Dennis (10/5): Great location and helpful staff - We stayed at this hotel for convenience and we were well looked-after by all the staff. The rooms were spacious and very clean. We will definitely return.
- Tracey (8/5): - This was our 4th stay here and one of the highlights has always been the freshly cooked breakfast on an individual basis. Unfortunately this time 2 out of the 3 mornings it was a buffet style hot breakfast and nowhere near as good, the bacon was pretty hard and we had to wait for our eggs to be cooked, which were lovely, but the rest of the breakfast got cold!
Staff as always very helpful and friendly.
- James (8/5): - Great rooms and fabulous breakfast.
- Mrs C (10/5): One night stopover. - Enjoyed our overnight stay at Craigielaw. Arrived at approx 9pm and staff were very welcoming. Had an early start in morning and enjoyed an excellent breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Lovely place to stay - Lovely room. Friendly efficient staff. Warm welcome. Magnificent situation. No hesitation in recommending The Lodge at Craigelaw.
- Peter (10/5): - A very relaxing stay made the more so by the helpful staff and good food. We were well pleased by our choice of this modern and well appointed hotel and intend to visit again. Watching the golf was an added bonus
- Stephen (10/5): If you like golf, this is a great spot to stay - Food was very good value for money, well prepared & presented. I ate several evening meals there and all were very good.
Scottish cooked breakfast was outstanding
Staff were friendly and helpful
Nice sized room but unfortunately I didn't get a sea view room.
Outside probably needs a little bit of maintenance i.e. paint peeling in some area but interior very good.
Due to commitments I didn't have time to pay a round of golf, maybe next visit.
I would definitely stay there again.
- Kath (8/5): Nice hotel with lovely views of the coast. - Our stay here was just for one night and everything was great. Room was nice, food was tasty and the team looking after us were very helpful and friendly. I'd definitely stay here again.
- Mike (10/5): Fabulous hotel, great area. Plenty to do. - Great base for exploring a beautiful area with lots of interesting, historic towns
- david (10/5): Three peaceful nights in a lovely location - We stayed 3 nights in a double room. We were particularly impressed by the courteous and helpful staff, the location and the cleanliness of the hotel. The food was good although the portions were slightly on the large size. We would definitely stay there again, even though we are not golfers.
