Clement (9/5): Rare old world charm in San Francisco. - Old world charm in the heart of the city. It's not your typical impersonal large hotel or a trendy hipster boutique hotel and tricked out room decor and amenities. The place harkens back to a time when traveling is private, intimate and personal experience. The hotel is a spacious former private mansion converted into small inn. It has all the amenities of a large hotel but in an intimate setting. Located in a part of the city that's walking distance to Japantown. This is a personal preference about lighting in general. It seems like the lights in my room is outfitted with 3000K LED lights. Warmer 2700k LED lights seem more in keeping with what I'm used to. 300K lights is too bright and they belong in public space... not in bedrooms.

765gregoryf (2/5): No integrity - With only two weeks to go until our trip was scheduled, I received notice that the hotel was unilaterally cancelling my reservation. No explanation was given even though I asked for one. The person calling apologized but the apology was perfunctory. He offered no serious help in arranging for other accommodations nor any form of compensation. The Mansion is a nice property (I’ve stayed there before), charges premium rates but clearly, they offer Holiday Inn level service (and that’s not fair to Holiday Inn). Needless to say, I will not be staying there again.

Diego (10/5): Beautiful, romantic, safe, peaceful. - The room itself, the location, the atmosphere, literally everything about this hotel was beautiful and amazing. Far exceeded my expectations, everything was gorgeous Bathtub was spacious, bed was super comfortable, everything provided was stunning. Staff were super helpful and kind. 12/10 will recommend everytime. Parking was a little tight, BUT the fact it was gated and private (given the nature of the city) was fantastic and gave us peace of mind which greatly outweighed the snug parking. Don't let this turn you away from this place, it was so worth it.

Doris (10/5): Comfortable stay in a beautiful mansion - We had a very comfortable stay in the deluxe king room for 2 nights. The Mansion has a very beautiful interior, beautifully furnished with a lot of interesting decorative items and pictures to look at, like a little museum. Check in was super easy, so was parking with clear instructions given with the early online check-in option. Our room and bed was comfortable and it was quiet. The staff was very friendly and helpful and served us a hot beverages any time of the day. We liked the location. For us, everything was in walking distance to great Neighbourhood restaurants in Japan town or the Fillmore District. Places like Union Square, SFMoMA and other places of interest were in walking distance as well and we did not need a car for 2 days. Breakfast options were on the sweet side, but we could order eggs any style or omelette. For lunch we enjoyed great sandwiches at the Limoncello deli just opposite the Mansion. A wonderful place to come back.

Experienced all the extra touches provided by an upscale hotel. Rooms are spacious and all amenities are provided. Great location. Very quiet. Very clean. Great value for the quality of hotel. Food delicious. Beautiful hotel! Would definitely make this a priority hotel when visiting again.

Warning to everyone. The building has a terrible old carpet/furniture smell. Facilities are old. Lack of staff and basically no service. The price is a total scam. Should have read the review on google map before book this place.

Christine (10/5): - We loved our stay at the Neighbourgood Sutter Mansion. The room was very comfortable, surprisingly quiet, the bed was was heavenly and the bathroom was ‘spa’ like. We did not have the breakfast but the staff offered us espresso drinks and pastries. The entire team was outstanding, very welcoming but not over bearing. If I have anything to wish for more is an elevator for transportation of luggage’s.

Most furnishings are cheap; not inline with the overall "mansion" atmosphere. No hot water (staff checked and the same situation in other rooms when I was trying to take a bath/shower). The gym is not much of a gym.

They have been extremely welcoming with us, helped us in any sense (with the laundry as well as with an Amazon delivery or the parking). Great service, offers also the breakfast included which was pleasing. The room are good and we stayed on a very nice king suite - fully equipped with Molton Brown soap... A small boutique hotel that is giving back the glory to the building that host them. Well done!

Rooms were so comfortable and the service was second to none, next time I return, I will bring my wife for sure!
KimW3890 (10/5): Family Stay at Sutter Mansion - A Home Away from Home! - We stayed at Neighbourgood Sutter Mansion for a few weeks in June as a family and it was everything we hoped for - and more! The space is absolutely beautiful. The pictures don't do justice to the exquisite interiors and grand, opulent feeling of this historic building. Our suite was spacious, with a sleeper couch for our toddler and a gorgeous city view! We had a huge walk-in shower, double vanity (perfect for a couple or family!) and a big spa bathtub with great water pressure and temperature. The staff were so incredibly welcoming and genuinely cared about our experience, particularly when our son got very sick on our trip. They were so thoughtful with giving my parents and us tips on how to get around, and the best places to go. It truly really felt like a home away from home, and we were so grateful for their kindness! We loved the upmarket area where Sutter Mansion is located in Pacific Heights. It was a lovely, quiet atmosphere but also so close to everything, so it was a great part of the city to stay in. We loved how walkable the city is! If you’re looking for somewhere that feels elevated, unique and person - this is it. We can't wait to visit again soon!
Fearless816651 (10/5): Birthday Weekend - AMAZING Team! - My girlfriend and I had THE most amazing stay at Neighbourgood Sutter Mansion! We were there to celebrate her birthday and the Neighbourgood Team went above and beyond to make sure she had the most incredible weekend. They welcomed with flowers, there was a hand-written card on the bed and they had help me curate an itinerary for the weekend of some of the best cafes, restaurants and activities...some true hidden gems! Super thoughtful with incredible attention to detail. The hotel is really charming with a beautiful decor and art. The room / bed was super comfortable. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We'll definitely be back!

Stay795039 (10/5): A magical, historical stay at the Mansion on Sutter! - Wow! Staying at this hotel made our time in the city this weekend extra magical. Yash and Komal took amazing care of us. They provided ABOVE AND BEYOND service. A huge thank you to them! We appreciated all of the extra special touches. We loved our room, very good size with a patio to enjoy looking out over the city. As you step through the original doors that date back to the late 1800s, you are thrown back in time. There is so much to take in throughout the elegant mansion with its unique art and artifacts. You can just feel the history as you think about all of the people that have stayed at the hotel over the years. If only the walls could tell the stories! The complimentary breakfast was good, complete with eggs, waffles, cereal, yogurt, and more. The hotel is currently undergoing a change in ownership so I'm not sure if and how the hotel might change, but we loved it just the way it is. There are only 12 rooms and although 11 of the 12 were booked, we felt like we were the only ones staying there. We enjoyed tea and wine in the lobby at various times during our stay. We will definitely be back! Thank you, Yash and Komal!!

David (10/5): Affordable luxury in a central location. - The property was fantastic, gorgeous common areas and rooms, very comfortable bed, excellent bath tub (bathroom in general), and extremely kind and attentive staff. Parking was easy (expensive, but it's downtown SF -- I was happy to have a secure spot). Great value for the price, I would have expected to pay 50-100% more for a hotel like this downtown. Not much on the block, but it's a good central location nonetheless -- you're a short walk from Japan Town or Filmore, a mid-length walk from Chinatown / north beach or the museums, and a quick bus or cab from the park, Haight, the Mission, etc. I would 100% stay here again and recommend it to anyone. Nothing.

However, if the other room we were put in was a premium king, - Something went wrong with the dates of our reservation and they put us in a suite at no extra cost for the first 2 nights of our stay. The last night we were transferred to a room that we were allegedly supposed to have been in, but we did not feel it was fitting to a premium king room that we booked. It felt like we were in servants quarters. Was very oddly placed near the stairwell and an office. Very stuffy and a bit cramped. We did not complain as they had given us a suite the 2 days before.

They even upgraded our room and put extra touches to make us feel welcome. Very comfy bed and luxurious bathroom. Only suggestion would be to add more easily-accessible plugs in the room - but not a big deal and understandable given the historic nature of the property.

Jolyn (6/5): - My daughter and I stayed at mansion on Sutter about five years ago and it was such an amazing experience that when my husband and I decided to visit San Francisco I booked us to stay there as well. If few things have changed, but the customer service and the beauty of the rooms and the location makes this one of the most Wonderful places to stay in all of San Francisco. The property is so beautiful and the renovations were done so well. The customer service, especially by Amanda and Komal were above and beyond. We will be coming back to San Francisco this year just so we can stay again at this lovely property. The rooms are clean. The beds are comfortable and every room is unique. I highly recommend this property.

Verified traveler (6/5): - This facility claims to be a 5-star hotel, but I'm not sure what the basis is for that claim. It's a strange kind of BandB without a restaurant. The include breakfast is awful - literally stuff from Costco. They have a couple very helpful staff members around but the whole place seems kind of deserted. Location is not far from everything, but not close to anything. Isn't as well staged as the photos suggest. Furniture was nice but getting a bit worn, nice toiletries and towels, no turndown service. You only get housekeeping if you ask for it. We had an issue with our room, and an offer was made to move us. Finally, not sure why but we paid Expedia $200 more than the hotel's receipt shows we paid - guess Expedia is marking this up, not down.

kendalls773 (8/5): Beautiful mansion in Pacific Heights - There is so much to like about this hotel and also opportunities for it to be a bit more professional. For one, it is a gorgeous mansion from the late 1800's that has been beautifully restored with exquisite marble, Tiffany stained glass and deco chandeliers. The rooms were tastefully decorated and well appointed for the most part. On site parking was a big plus! Some downsides: The windows are old and do not block noise. The staff, though nice, was not well trained. It is certainly not 5 star service. Check in was weirdest at sofa to sign paper, no mention of wifi passwords or welcoming attitude. There was almost nothing on the history of the building-it has a great background, including the renovation, but all they have is a short note about the original. The breakfast was a joke. Plates all covered in Saran Wrap, mediocre offerings, no bowls for yogurt, no hot water and no one there to help. Beautiful bar area but after attending the symphony at 10pm we could not get a nightcap. Seems like the bar is never used! The atmosphere is lovely, just seems like a ghost haunt sometimes. Very little interaction with staff. I may return now I know what to expect but within all this splendor it seemed they could do much more.

Michelle (10/5): Beauty, Warmth and Hospitality! - We were very well taken care of during our stay at The Mansion on Sutter. The place is absolutely beautiful, feeling like a museum in addition to being a hotel. The staff was incredibly attentive to our needs. We were celebrating a birthday and were delighted to receive an upgrade, which made our stay even more special. We also discovered a fantastic gourmet Italian deli right in front of the hotel, and the food there was excellent. All in all, this was an amazing experience, and I would absolutely return in the future—something I’m already planning to do. Thank you to the very kind and generous staff for making our visit so memorable! The breakfast could be a little better. It felt more like a 3-star breakfast. But they brought breakfast to our room suoer early the morning we left and that was very thoughtful.

Heather (6/5): - I have stayed at this charming and historic property before, which is why I returned. Sadly, I probably will not come back. The staff is always helpful and friendly, but our room was musty and smelled like bleach. The walls looked like they had not been wiped down properly. They need to air the room somehow and at least wipe down all of the moisture from the walls. The last time I stayed here it was clean and fresh. Maybe it was that particular room, but the nightly rate was not cheap and we could have had a different experience for much less.
gulabi162 (10/5): Exquisite hotel in a royal mansion - We stayed at the Mansion for 6 nights during thanksgiving week. This is an exquisite boutique hotel which is a converted mansion and is gorgeously decorated . It never felt that we are in a hotel. It felt like we are in a royal mansion. The staff is excellent. Komal at front desk and Amanda in housekeeping went out of their way to make us feel at home. Hotel is conveniently located in lower pacific heights area near Japan town . Highly recommend it. 5 stars.

We had a couples massage in our room. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and were extremely attentive. Well worth the money. I highly recommend a stay here. Everything was great!
TADD (8/5): - Old-house fanatics like us will take any opportunity to stay in homes turned hotels like this one. It is very cozy and welcoming despite ornate details at every turn. The staff and concierge team made us feel at home and were a great help coordinating special parts of our first visit to SF. A critical eye would find a few faults in the small details where properties go from good to excellent. During our stay we were often the only guests to be seen or heard, and the absence of bar service or their former in-house restaurant were small letdowns. Some elements of room prep are quirky for frequent travelers. None of that is a problem nor should it dissuade someone from staying. It’s in a safe area of downtown SF and close to anything worth seeing.
