- David (10/5): Great choice for a budget stay! - I enjoyed my stay in room 6 at the Cactus Inn.
PROS:
1. Great location close/walkable to the beach;
2. Quiet & peaceful property setting with pleasant courtyard feel;
3. Nice and helpful staff -- feels like you are staying with family;
4. SImple, clean, basic room at a good price;
5. Secure/bolted room safe to store valuables;
6. On-site restaurant with plenty of food options;
6. Short walk to the beach, laundry, mini-mart, and restaurants;
7. Ability to use their wash machine, if needed;
8. Family-owned business with owner and staff living on-site, so it's always easy to get in touch with someone, if needed.
9. All items in the room work as intended without issue.
CONS:
1. Entry door needs weatherstripping;
2. Bathroom need a silicone water divider on the floor to prevent shower water from making its way around the entire bathroom floor;
3. Wifi network is open/unsecured;
4. On-site restaurant is cash only and doesn't accept credit cards.
I would definitely stay here again if looking for a budget accomodation in Langkawi.
- Alvin (10/5): - The owners are friendly, helpful and kind.
They also rescue dogs. There were three lovely doggos when I was staying there.
I would gladly stay there again.
Plus the restaurant just up the front makes good food!
- Stefanie (10/5): - The best place! The owners went above and beyond to help us when we realized we didn't have enough cash and the nearest ATM was a very long confusing 45 minute walk away. They called us a grab to the ATM, gave the driver instructions to wait for us and bring us back to the inn, and even called us a grab the following morning for our morning flight - letting us know that grab was WAY less expensive than calling a taxi, which would have been easier for them. They are such sweet people, and their restaurant is amazing too! We would recommend them to anyone. Great to meet them, if we came back to Langkawi, would definitely stay with them again - no hesitation!
- Ash (10/5): - Friendly staff, great location less than 5 minute walk to a nice little beach. The fridge in the room was not working during my stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and spacious. Close proximity to Pantai Tengah street. Excellent restaurant.
- Edwin (8/5): Free n easy at cactus inn - We are staying in family unit. Two rooms two bathroom. Safe, fridge, aircond, water heater are provided. 10min walk to tengah beach. With small kids 15min walk. Estimated About 1km..love the cactus cafe next door. Convenient when u have kids and not keen to go out late at night for meals n snack or raining season. Pancake for breakfast is nice. Satay for dinner is good too. Not sure about daily room clean up. They didn't do it although i stay 2 nights. My only con is limited to TV channels. Boss is gracious to allow me to check out 1-hour late. With car, u can go to crowded cenang beach in 5minutes. Parking is available at the inn.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Its convinient. We felt like we were taking part of the malaisan culture
- Verified traveler (6/5): - water pressure in the room is very low..
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice hotel near beach. They have a Cactus restaurant next to it. It services good food and great music.
- Lyn (8/5): Would come back, no hesitations! - Good location. Walkable to beach, duty free shopping, good eateries.
Cactus Restaurant has extensive breakfast & dinner menus as well as friendly staff who serve good food - but lousy coffee. Get your caffeine fix elsewhere. Great margaritas!
Would have rated it excellent if not for a particularly sullen Inn employee.
- Tanya (8/5): - The Cactus Inn has a popular restaurant and is close to the nicest section of beach in the area. It is also at the nicest end of the resort with access to other good restaurants.
- Patrick (10/5): Great place to stay - Great place to stay, near the beach and quite a few restaurants. The best is the Cactus Restaurant out the front.
Fabulous garden of cacti, and assorted similar plants; gives the place a good feel.
Only drawback was the mosquitoes of an evening, but a bit of preparation and request a few coils from the front desk & you're all sorted.
Staff & management friendly & helpful.
- A (8/5): Friendly - Very friendly staff and clean room. They gave us a suite for 2 people so the room was huge. You can eat at the restaurant and they have a huge variety. It’s about 7 minutes to Tengah beach -It’s a long walk to cenang beach area but about 5 minutes by vehicle. You can hire mopeds next door where there is a handy shop. A Few restaurants in the area. There’s a large hotel being built right next door but it wasn’t too loud. Also they have a lot of cats and a dog
- Verified traveler (10/5): A jewel in disguise - At first glance the Cactus Inn doesn't stand out, tucked away beside a vast construction site but it really delivers far above expectation. Our room, number 8, was clean and spacious with efficient air con, a fan, seating area and fridge. The bed was comfy and any noise from the construction next door had been efficiently cancelled out with double glazed windows in the bedroom. The food in the restaurant is excellent and good value and the staff are helpful and friendly.
- Lewis (10/5): Amazing stay at Cactus Inn - Amazing stay at Cactus Inn. Rooms basic with tea and coffee facilities and air con. Staff were fantastic. Food was incredible both for breakfast and dinner. After walking all of the strip, was the most lively place and food and drink was great value. Close to the beach and the marina for the sunset cruise and island hopper.
- Bruce and Laura (8/5): Welcoming, clean and close to beach - Our hosts, Lip and Liew, were so welcoming and helpful, and their staff friendly. Our comfortable room was clean and had everything we needed, plus many English movie channels for the rainy hours :) It was an easy walk to the quiet end of Tengah beach, and further down the road to see langurs, macaques, hornbills and more. And the restaurant food was yummy! The construction next door was unfortunate, but the cozy motel atmosphere made up for it - we would have stayed at the Cactus again if there was availability.
- David beaver (10/5): Great - another great stay, friendly staff, very convenient, excellent food, Lip is top man.
- fraize (10/5): Great place to stay - Really chilled place, deceptive, doesn't look like much from the road but the food is fantastic and the staff were great, the rooms were comfortable and more than adequate for me and my kids. Also great value.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel - Stayed for a short weekend. Close to the one love bar which we found to be a great bar to go to. Asked for some extra decor in the room and the team were able to supply. Room was very comfortable.
- Tjean Na (10/5): Great service, clean rooms. Will be back. - First time at the Cactus Inn and definitely won't be the last. Rooms were clean and very comfortable. Everything worked fine-Air conditioning, wifi, water pressure. Clean toilet/bath, which is important. The cafe provided well, so not difficult to feed yourself.
- Rich D. (8/5): Cactus - Nothing fancy, but character to spare and a great restaurant brimming with travelers' testimonials. A short walk to Tenga Beach and an assortment of other good eateries down the road.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very comfortable for family. Very clean room. Many restaurants nearby.
- Lori (10/5): Loved this place - Easy access to Tengah beach which was less crowded than Cenang. Could easily walk there too (20 min).
Room was actually a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms, full fridge. Able to use their clothes washer and hang to dry a couple of loads. Appreciated when traveling 4 months. Manager apologetic about construction of a large hotel next door but it really wasn't bothersome. There's construction everywhere you look in Langkawi.
Restaurant was really good, breakfast reasonable priced and we ate dinner a couple times too in our 3 nights.
Taxi stand right across the street. Great staff
- Marion (10/5): Please go!!! - Simple but clean and very well located hotel. Super clean and mainly ADORABLE team!
The restaurant offers also a nice menu for very decent prices.
Both hotel and restaurant highly recommended!
- Howard (8/5): A friendly place. - Very friendly staff a and a good restaurant attached to the property. Away from the main commercial area but within easy walking distance. Several restaurant options very close. Rooms are comfortable but the walls are thin! Wifi was a bit hit and miss.
- Verified traveler (10/5): The only place to be CACTUS - You are treated like one of the family the food is to die for there is no other place like it
- Justine (6/5): Great staff and good food ,room needs improvement - On the positive the staff were very kind and helpful, have only good things to say about them, it was the best thing about our stay, they were very generous with 2bottles of free water and coffee each day also the food was good in the resturant.
They even did our laundry for us.
The beautiful beach is nearby.
They had pre warned us about the construction nearby which was good of them and it is not their fault.
There was a damp problem in the room and it smelt very damp and even the sofa had mould stains around the bottom.
The duvet was dirty, however we asked if we could just have a sheet the day after as we were too hot and they took the duvet away and gave us nice clean sheet so we found it better after that.
I guess we are comparing it to other accommodation we have had much better for£30 a night but then Langkawi is more expensive than most of Asia.
We feel that the cactus inn
staff do the best they can with what they have but the owner needs to make a few improvements.
- Aishwarya (8/5): Convenient and clean family room - The family room was very spacious. Comfortable 2 day stay for 3 people.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great value - excellent value
- gavin (8/5): Great value - Good value and lovely staff and owners
- Noel (10/5): Great place to stay - We were very happy with our stay. Lip is so hospitable and Fika and Munni went out of their way to make our stay great. The dowside is the breakfast. They got all the orders wrong, were not helpful and ran out of ingredients. The breakfast is not part of Cactus Inn but is contracted out by Lip
They should improve so that Cactus Inn can maintain their high standards.
- Kendon (8/5): Very modern - The Cactus might not appear sexy from the outside, but the rooms are beautifully clean and modern, with a private safe, television, tea- and coffee-making facilities, hot running water and a sofa. Super-friendly staff address you by name! It might be a bit more expensive that other places in the neighbourhood, but it's a classy establishment and fresh. The only downside is that the bed is a spring mattress, which isn't everybody's cup of tea. The attached restaurant is also very reliable and understandably popular.
- Abhinav (8/5): Convenient location with clean rooms - The location of the hotel is very good. it is close to very nice eateries including the ones serving vegetarian north Indian food. Beach is also walking. can rent a motorbike from a T-shoppe located just 100 meters away from the place. Rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. To summarise, cactus Inn is perfectly located and the rooms are nice.
- Nat (10/5): As good (even better) than hotel - Second time and the standard has not drop at all. No hassle during check in process was a good start. and the rest, total sense of satisfaction ~~
- Maxwell (10/5): You get much more than you pay for - We were very surprised to see what we got when we checked in.
For an affordable price you get your own mini lounge room / sitting room, with a television, a separate little kitchen area (although very basic, mini fridge and coffee / tea stuff), the bedroom (of course) and even two bathrooms!
The wifi was solid, the accommodation spacious and comfortable, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Only sometimes they were hard to find, but it seems like they only have one person on shift at a time, so they need to do all the jobs around the hotel.
In any case, highly recommend, wish we had more time to stay and relax, but we were mostly out and exploring the awesome island of Langkawi!
- Susan (10/5): - I chose this hotel because it was close to Resorts World, where I was going for a race. It's also conveniently located near the beach and many restaurants. The room was clean and comfortable. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. I really appreciated that they let me check in early after an overnight flight. I also liked their adorable dog and cat.
- Deiniol (8/5): - Good place to stay for the price with good food and friendly staff. Conveniently located without being noisy. It's not a full hotel so don't expect hotel facilities.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Langkawi Motel - Nice & clean! Lovely restaurant too! Quite a long way from the beach facilities but the taxi fare was only 10RM!
- Marc (8/5): Very Good Inn Added to Excellent Restaurant - Very pleasant room with comfortable bed. Wi-Fi was a little shaky -- frequently had better connection to another guesthouse 200 yards away. Thought the price, w/o breakfast, was a little high, but breakfast at the restaurnt was very good value.
- Andy & Jane (10/5): Nice hotel close to the beach. - The Cactus Inn was wonderful. The owner, Mr Lip, could not do enough to help us, and even invited us to his New Year party. The staff were also extremely friendly and helpful, if we come back to Langkawi will defo stay at the Cactus Inn..
- Mary (10/5): Place to return - Excellent restaurant attached to hotel, best food we have had in Malaysia. People came from other hotels for food. Very friendly, helpful staff. Close to Tengah beach, 20 minute walk to Cenang beach. We would return.
- HUI JIE (8/5): Great stay and strategic place - We really love the stay there as it is quiet and we are able to relax ourselves for this trip. Also there is a lot of restaurant around this area, especially the cactus has their own restaurant. Great service and the room is clean and tidy.
- Rathi (10/5): Great place - Nice, comfortable, clean, and affordable room. Hotel is in a good location. Really genuine and friendly staffs..we appreaciate all the little extra things they did for us. And their restaurant has great food! Overall we loved our stay there..would definitely visit again.
- Michael (10/5): Nice place for casual traveler
- If you want to stay friendly a helpful owner run modest hotel, this is a GREAT place. Lip is extremely helpful in scheduling and generally advising on what to do/when/how. the hotel is not a 5 star place, but it is clean and safe, with a well respected and popular island restaurant serving EXCELLENT food. The room and shower were fully functional, with A-C, a small safe, and refrigerator. Wi-fi is adequate and relatively dependable. It's not a quiet place, with the restaurant and not exceptionally well sealed doors, but all was clean and comfortable. Its a GREAT place for a more casual world traveler looking for excellent local character and comfort. I would not necessarily recommend it for families
- Raymond (10/5): Good service and pleasant people - The location was perfect for us. Quiet part of town and yet not too far from all the happenings. The restaurant served good and tasty food. Quality of food was better than most places. Overall, for the price paid it was of good value for the room.
- nidhi (10/5): Amazing stay , perfect location - I stayed at cactus inn for two nights ...we rented a car from the airport and it was only 20 mins drive from there. The hotel staff were very friendly n polite and I had a wonderful stay there . They have a restaurant too that serves good food , I loved the breakfast there - had banana pancakes set and French toast . The rooms were tidy and cozy and had everything we needed . Overall a very great experience will definitely recommend this hotel . Walking distance from the beach and the crowd , perfect for a relaxing holiday
- Verified traveler (8/5): Well kept Inn - Only stayed the nights. Had rented car during daylight hours. Clean and neat.
- Ching (8/5): Great place to stay! - Great stay! Like the stay very much with the relaxing environment and nature. There are only 9 rooms in total. The house staff are very friendly and helpful. The Castus Restaurant located in front of the rooms serves delicious western food with reasonable price.
- Josalyn (10/5): Comfy and nice inn... - It was a nice and comfy inn. Approachable and friendly owner and staff. Affordable price and highly recommended to other tourist who wish to explore Langkawi...
- Wong (8/5): friendly - Promise will deco my room..but dint deco it ..
- Abdullah (10/5): - Very nice place to stay at Langkawi, Location is great and staff are very professional
- Jelena (10/5): Great place and affordable! - Found it hard to book a place in Langkawi for affordable price and somewhere that was great for location and facilitates. Cactus Inn was great for all that, near the beach, cheap taxi ride to the main street and great room with fridge, air con and ensuite. The restaurant was fun too we always went down for food or drinks. Staff were really great too! Really enjoyed our stay!
- Taso (10/5): Hotel Cactus Inn is located 200m from the sea. - I really enjoyed my stay in Cactus Inn. The stuff was very friendly and easygoing. The room is spacious and you have a nice balcony to relax. Its right next to the Cactus Restaurant which is also really nice and by the night you can enjoy your beer there.
If you want a nice clean and well maintained hotel and you don not enjoy the cramped huge hotels, this is definitely the place to stay.
- Waldemar (8/5): Good, Clean Simple Hotel - This is a good but simple hotel, probably most suitable for young backpackers, although I noticed older couples with children staying there. It has an open-air restaurant festooned with T-shirts and graffiti in many languages written by happy customers. The manager was a big help to us in solving a travel problem. Everyone is friendly. Just don't expect a robe and slippers in your room closet.
- Isabel (8/5): Give Cactus Inn a try! - I stayed for a short solo vacay at the Cactus Inn a few weeks back as I attended a Yoga retreat closeby at Ambong Ambong.
For fellow yogis who would like to stay some place clean, affordable, friendly staff, I would recommend Cactus Inn as Lip and his crew will make you feel welcome as they are always at smiles!
Besides, it's only a stone's throw away from Ambong Ambong.
It is close to amenities such as restos, motorbike rental, convenient store etc
Lip is very friendly and is always ready to provide his recommendation.
He even helped arrange airport transfer at a competitive rate.
Definitely stay at Cactus Inn should I head back for yoga again
- Eilis (6/5): Very clean and new but there are better options - The room was spotlessly clean, all appeared very new. The food in the restaurant attached was excellent. The owner was friendly and the two cats on site very welcoming :) A few things negatively affected my experience just a little and could fairly easily have been remedied:
- the wifi code wasn't in the room so I had to go back out to ask at reception (I realised when I was already in bed so basically had to wait til the next day)
- there were no net curtains so you had a choice of no natural light in your room (close the curtains) or no privacy at all (ground floor room)
- there were no channels on the TV in English :(
- there was no reading lamp next to the bed
- I was told to head across the road with my baggage to get a taxi when leaving - it would have been nice for reception to call one
- some info in the room about the location of the beach, opening times of the restaurant, shopping etc would have been very helpful
The location was pretty quiet (except at night when the local wildlife was really noisy!). Not the fault of the establishment though, and some people would like that.
All in all, it was ok. But I wouldn't be rushing back.
- Sylvia (10/5): Little paradise to be enjoyed! - Hotel is situated in a convenient spot where there are a couple nice restaurants around the area and across is a 5 star hotel that you have access to the beach where you can see people jet skiing and paragliding, Wonderful experience, the room has all basic necessities and are clean, drinking water, coffee were provided, shower and toilet are together, owners are friendly and helpful, we got a little sunburn and the owner gave us some aloe Vera to cool it down, it was really a pleasant stay at cactus Inn.
- Denise (10/5): Great value - Great place to stay.Rooms very clean,and beds comfortable. Friendly staff, both in Cactus Inn and Cactus Restaurant.
Would happily stay here again
- Hassan (10/5): Not just a hotel, but the home of a close friend - Far better than expected! No deposit, no passport required, no room checking upon check out.
No need to repeat everything about the nearby resort, everyday room cleaning, the smart waterheater, the extralarge bed, lovely frogs singing all the night, and white bellied eagles screaming in the morning...
The only thing that I have to add is never miss the hotel's dinners and breakfasts even if you stay in another place. Ahha, and this: Booking tours around the island will be a bit cheaper if Lip (the boss) helps you with.
And one negative point: I like to eat my breakfast with much bread, but I had to ask for one or two sets of "toast+butter+jam" every time I needed some bread:(
- Steven (10/5): Perfect cheap budget hotel! Don't look any further - Well cactus inn... Perfect cheap and clean and great staff.
Got a taxi from the pier... 30ringit so was decent start already.
On arrival check in was so quick and Mr lip the owner was very warming and helped us to our room.
Room 4, was clean big enough for two with a little sofa, TV on wall and decent bathroom. Aircon and a fan... Had a playing card were the key card Goes so can keep the air on on all day when not in room :D
One poor thing was the shower, poor water pressure but that's the only fault.
Wifi was okay, but gets turned off around midnight once restaurant shuts.
Location isn't bad... 3 min walk threw a resort to e beach, small and quiet, bigger larger beaches further up just longer walk.
It's a good 25 minute walk to the main area were the malls and sea life place is.
Taxi was 8ringit into town.
Restaurant was always busy morning and night, it's cheap wide selection and good service I recommend eating here!
Also go visit bird and animal place.... Great day out truly enjoyed feeding all types of birds and animals.
Also quick thing about Mr lip... Busy restaurant and we arrived in a taxi in the rain on our last night and he ran across with u break and helped. E and my partner out and gave us a second umbrella so we didn't get wet.
Great hotel and truly recommend!!
- natalie (10/5): Clean, cosy, simple and nice.. - Looks like a brand new place (maybe cause it is well maintained?) but i love how they have just everything we need, clean room and toilet, enough space for our bags, tv, wifi, parking spot, kettle, cups, towel. Love the experience! Great job cactus inn team.. Keep it up. Its close to the beach and cenang hot spots too.. Everything within walking distance.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Super - Our family felt very happy and comfort, It is located near to hotels, shopping and food taste is also nice in restarant.
- Muhamad hazim (8/5): clean hotel - The most clean i have stayed in langkawi...and the staff is so friendly..
- Keith (10/5): A little Jem... - Very friendly hotel, excellent location, clean and comfy rooms
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very good hotel, far from restaurants. - Far from cenang beach, we need to take a taxi 10rm to go to the center of cenang. About 20-30 mins walk to the restaurants and bars.
- Syama (10/5): Home Away From Home - I'm Syama, from Kuala Lumpur. My friends and I didn't know anything about Cactus Inn prior to our arrival at Langkawi ... we'd gotten a last-minute 4D3N deal via Expedia (flight + accommodation). We were pleasantly surprised with Cactus Inn and the staff (especially Fiqa) were the best! They were so friendly (and not the fake kind either).. and made us feel so welcome. We took a family unit - it had 2 rooms, 2 baths wt heater, bath towels, a counter top with 4 bar (tall) chairs, an L-shape sofa, TV (Astro), a/c units in both rooms, a ceiling fan in the living space, a fridge, basic cutlery and plates/bowls, mugs, kettle, a safe, wi-fi. There's also the Cactus Inn Restaurant just a few steps away, so we didn't have to go far for last-minute grub and drinks. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Cactus Inn was a heckuvalot better than what we had expected. We'd absolutely recommend it to anyone!
- Ngung Chia (10/5): 5-star facilities nearby by paying 3-star rate - Directly opposite Holiday villa (5-star resort). Can go over to use their pool and beach free - just bring your own beach towel (can request from Cactus Inn). Room is clean and newly renovated. Everything inside room has most facilities such as fridge, safe, limited cable TV, excellent WiFi and very comfortable big bed. There is however no toothbrush and toothpaste. Location is OK with a 20 - 30 mins walk to Cenang shopping area. Good food service in Cactus bar/restaurant. Very friendly owner (Mr. Lip) that give good travel tips (in Chinese and English) and able to book all major trips (e.g. mangrove tour and diving trips).
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK for a couple of nights - Owner, Mr Lip funny guy. Basically a few motel rooms out the back of a (great, well-priced) restaurant. Bit of a trek to not v impressive beach. Lovely staff. Room fine for price.
- Thomas n Paddy (10/5): Great option for accommodation in Pantai Tengah - Our stay at Cactus Inn was a pleasure. Friendly host in Mr Lip and his staff outstanding. Offers good, clean accommodation for a quiet and relaxing break. On site restaurant and bar are excellent too serving up great food all day. Free Wi fi during day and evening was appreciated. Will stay again!
- Rickard (8/5): Extremely nice budget hotel - Extremely friendly and helpful staff, a simple but nice hotel, simple but really good food.
- Elaine (10/5): GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY. - I found the Cactus Inn to be of good value for money, it seems a new construction and all the furnishings are new. My room was of a good size with 2 queen beds together, I had kettle and cups for making tea, there was also a fridge. Shower was like wet room with plenty of hot and cold water.
I had my own little terrace and the outside area was very well kept.
It felt very safe and friendly.
The staff were very nice.
- Diana (10/5): Great stay - I'm glad I followed the recommendation of other reviewers of this hotel.
The hotel may look regular from the outside, but the room is really clean, modern and nice.
The staff are also very sweet and accomodating. The restaurant is busy every night. Good food.
The owner is very nice as well. Overall I'm very satisfied with our stay. Will surely stay here again.
- Delly (10/5): A real hidden gem - highly recommend. - The Cactus Inn, is a real gem to the Pantai Tengah area. The staff are lovely and friendly, the room had more mod cons (a safe, a fridge, air con, TV with Cable and a fan) than I was expecting.
The room - standard, double bed was spotless, clean and tidy and no nasty surprises (aka bugs). I was so pleasantly surprised (being a hotel girl), and given how cheap I thought the Cactus Inn was especially over New Year. It really made the start of our holiday.
The restaurant was also buzzing, every morning and evening, people filled the tables...the food was delicious, we mostly ate local food, but they catered for everyone.
After we moved on to a hotel for some beach time, we kept going back to the Cactus Restaurant, it was that good.
All in all, we could not have been happier with our stay at the Cactus Inn. I highly recommend a stay there.
Noteworthy:
The plug sockets are 3 pin.
The bathroom is a wet room (with sit down toilet)
The safe is key access not pin code
If you stand by the house the back of the road, you can see wild monkeys.
The Inn is only 1.5 years old, and the restaurant is 16 years old
- gloria (10/5): An Excellent No Frills Budget Option - I'm not a resort person so this motel was perfect for me and my 2 teenaged daughters. Mr. & Mrs. Lip are just the nicest hosts. If you rent a car, then the location is nice and quiet. Without a car, the walk is about 20 minutes into Pantai Cenagh.
We stayed in the family room which was 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a small area with a refrigerator and counter, and a sitting area with a table, sofa and flat screen tv.
Amenities: water and coffee are provided. There is a soap dispenser by the shower wall. After traveling in Asia for over a year now, where toothbrushes, shower caps, etc are provided daily (a total waste), be prepared that only soap is provided. I was perfectly ok with this because I had read about it. Environmentally, this is better so I had no problem with providing my own shampoo & conditioner.
The beach is across the street so it's pretty convenient. Cactus Cafe is next to Cactus Inn so it's very convenient to have breakfast there. They are separate businesses. There's also a Russian restaurant, and a T Shoppe Convenience store. We rented our car here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice stay, very good value and good location - Stayed at Cactus Inn end of Dec. 2014, booked a family room for 2 adults+2kids. The rooms are more than adequate for the price you pay, very clean, nice TV and air-con as well as a fridge. Super value for money.
The adjacent restaurant is great, from breakfast to dinner, albeit the service is pretty slow (but friendly).
There are some shops right nearby as well as other restaurants, a money changer and a taxi station is right across the street.
The beach is 5 mins away and I have to say, if you come with (smaller) kids it's the nicest stretch of beach on - IMO of course.
So, good location + very nice beach + great food + good value = 100% recommendation from us
- Jemma (8/5): Helpful owner, quiet location, great restaurant. - A little out from the main drag of Pantai Cenang, but it's in a quiet location, a few hundred metres from the end of the much less busy Pantai Tengah. Room was comfy enough, bed a little on the firm side but not as bad as some places around Asia. Perfectly clean room, had a little problem with the shower but that was quickly rectified.
Attached restaurant is great - many locals and tourists come from other parts of the island to eat here. The owner of the place is helpful, gave me a lift to Resort World on the first morning to join a sailing trip, and organised a car hire for the other days I was in Langkawi.
- Amer (10/5): Good - Everything was fine except the low water pressure in the afternooon
- joy (10/5): Cosy room, excellent location, friendly inn owners - Room was better than what I expected. Appreciate that there is a wall fan in addition to the air-conditioner as due to my sensitive nose, I would leave the aircon at 26degc with the fan on to circulate the air. Inn owners Mr Lip and Liew were friendly and caring who made me feel at home. Will choose Catcus Inn again when back.
- Noel (10/5): Great stay at Cactus Inn!! - Stayed 5 days at the Cactus Inn. The room is comfortable and very clean. The toilets are well maintained and functioning. The best part of the stay was interacting with the owner Mr. Lip. There was nothing that he was not able to do for you. You asked and it was done! The food at the adjoining restaurant was fantastic but more than the food it was the ambiance that made the place so special. This was evident from the number of guests that just kept returning to the place night after night. The position of the hotel is about 2 minutes walk from the beach making it an ideal spot for beach combers. Without hesitation I would book a room at this hotel again!
- Firdaus (10/5): Nice place to stay - Friendly staff, nice place and good food. Comfortable room with an acceptable price. Suitable for families and newlyweds.
- Jeremy (10/5): Great hotel, enough said. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. - I picked the Cactus Inn based solely on reviews, and boy were these reviews on point!
It was a surprise honeymoon/anniversary trip for my wife, and i mentioned it when i made the booking. What i didn't expect was that they made up the room with some extra nice touches (rose petals, couple towel 'swans'), which was a pleasant surprise!
The Owner (Mr Lip) even helped to arrange for a Mangrove Tour at the last minute, which usually will entail higher pricing, but none of that with him, he got it at a good price point for us (below what i expected to pay).
We will most definitely choose to stay here again on our next visit to Langkawi, no doubt about it.

- John (8/5): Good for a 2-star hotel - The interior design is impressive for a 2-star hotel. The staff is very kind, friendly, and informal. They also were happy to let me use their washer and detergent to do my laundry (you dry it on racks provided outside your room). There are several restaurants and a couple of shops/convenience stores within walking distance. The only thing I would point out is that it is a good 15-25 min walk into town which normally would be no big deal, but you should factor in the heat & humidity (and afternoon showers). I tended to walk into town and take cheap taxis back for 8 MYR for one person. Taxis can be scarce near the hotel, but if you ask the staff they are happy to call one for you - just let them know (make arrangements the day before if you need an early morning pickup for your flight). Water pressure in shower varies, but I'm sure they would be happy to assist the best they can if you just ask them (I just chalked it up to life on what would otherwise be a rural island...just go with it!).
- Yeo (8/5): Good budget hotel - Very pleasant stay over four nights. Well designed room with all the standard facilities provided --comfy bed, hot shower, tv, safe, fridge, aircon and even a fan. Wifi worked very nicely most of the time. If it should suddenly stop working, just ask the reception to reset the equipment.
- kadir (10/5): very clean hotel and natural - easy to transport
price affordable
natural enviroment
- Osama (8/5): Nice hotel, but far from the city - the hotel managment , Mr Lip is a nice man and helpful. the other staff were helpful too, the location is far from the city center, u need to walk for about 15-20 min to reach there, u can find another closer hotel with the same price..but as over all experience, it was nice but i hate these little , like lizards that enter to the room so quickly and didnot sleep all night till my husband killed it, but it was in the last night in the hotel
- kuulia (10/5): A must stay! - Cactus Inn is a great place to stay in Langkawi. Great value, friendly staff, good restaurant, good location! Enjoyed our time at Cactus a lot and who knew Cactus grew in Malaysia!
- EL (8/5): Great location with a restaurant in front - I stayed at Room 6 for 1 night. The hotel room size was alright. It has many features such as cable TV, refrigerator, air-conditioner, water heater, mini safebox, sofa, kettle, coffee table and chairs. The rooms cleanliness was alright. Bed was comfy. Don't worry if you forget to bring a book, there are plenty at the check in counter. As for wifi, i couldn't connect to the wifi from my room. You can park your car near to your room. Would definitely recommend to stay here.
- Anne (8/5): Very happy with our accommodation - Newly built small and quiet accommodation adjacent to Cactus Restaurant and opposite the beach. The rooms are spotless and include good air-con, wifi and we had a king size comfortable bed. The staff went out of their way to ensure we had a pleasant stay, providing extra towels etc and offering complimentary laundry facilities and a well stocked library. The only drawback was the lack of a pool, however the beach is very close and the tariff is extremely reasonable!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place but not worth the cost. - Stayed there for 3 days and room was good enough though not worth the cost. Philip the Manager loves to be called as LIP though quite helpful :D.Always eager to have conversation and will talk to anyone even Monkeys and Birds if unable to catch hold of someone :P. The location is good, walking distance to Beach and Market nearby , off the main langkawi city. Place is quite small and its restaurant seems overpriced though you will be surprised that almost every restaurant costs almost the same in langkawi.
- sandra (8/5): Perfect for family with kids - All good apart from not close to Zhang nai beach where have the most shop and restruant
Staff at cactus are excellent , friendly and helpful.
- Anura Bird (8/5): Friendly Cat and Dog - I loved my stay at Cactus Inn. The rooms are new and generally comfortable. The people, both guests and staff, are friendly. The innkeeper is a birdwatcher and quite helpful with details about the flora and fauna on the island. Friendly guy. There is a friendly cat hanging around that adds to the cosiness of the place. The cafe offers local and continental food. quite tasty. Unpretentious place that soothes the soul, especially perfect if you value peace.
- Al Evans (8/5): Quiet place with good food, very welcoming - Nice basic accommodation, good fridge and wifi, tv not worth bothering. Good food in the attached bar or twenty minute walk to Main Street and a fab Mexican bar with 3 ringgit Heineken mugs. Fixed taxi rate for airport 22 ringgit. Hire car place 100 m at 95 ringgit for the day (9-9pm) plus petrol. Main town not wrth the bother. Cable car good for views but long winded experience, 2 hours just to get in, get up and down with 20 mins at top. Duty free was next to underwater world and better than main town.
- Krishna (8/5): Nice & clean room, friendly staff, close to beach. - It was a good decision made primarily from the review of previous travellers. I took up the family room and the room's were clean always, the bed was very comfortable. Hotel staff were very pleasant.
I would really recommend travellers to go for this place and is quite economical. Very nice location.
Overall it was quite satisfying and my family was also pleased with the place.
- Anna Struk (10/5): Great location, place, stuff and FOOD! - We stayed 3 days in Cactus Inn with my friends. The hotel is 2 star but it definatelly a value for money, it will exceed youe expectations. The locations is great, close to the beach, Cenang center and Restorants and Spa's. The room was clean and big enough. Stuff are very friendly. Restorant Cactus Inn - will exceed your expectations -I recommend to try Pancakes there on breakfast and Malaysian tea. Many guests from other hotels come to eat there. It is worth to rent a car and explore the island.
- Victor (8/5): Excellent Service - Four of us stayed in a family room, which was very clean and comfortable. Location is right in from of the Holiday Villa hotel. Service was excellent, very friendly and flexible and met all of our needs. I would recommend this hotel to any of my friends.
- Del (10/5): 5mins to the beach - What can I say. All round wonderful experience we had staying there a family off 4. Nice and pleasant. And cheap
- Sonya Jamie (10/5): lovely place great hospitality - From the time we arrived until the time we left 7 days we felt like part of the Cactus family. Lovely clean units. just far enough from and to the shops and spas..
- Penelope (10/5): What a fantastic place to stay, you wont regret it - We stayed here for 5 nights in July. We thought this place was great its only a 5 minute walk to the beach, a 20 second walk to the Cactus Inn which serves great food and cheap booze. Mr Lip and all the staff are so warm and welcoming. They are really helpful and always willing to stop and have a chat or point out the wildlife around the property.. Rooms are good value and are super clean and the air con is great. Location is Ideal and there is a scooter rental place just next door. Cant recommend this place highly enough.
