- genel934 (10/5): A pleasant surprise in So. Illinois - I recently stayed a week at the SureStay Hotel in Whittington, IL, and I can honestly say it exceeded my expectations. It was located directly off Route 37, close to Mt. Vernon, Benton, Rend Lake, Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park, and of course, Burton’s Café (a personal favorite), home of the original White Pie. Trust me when I say that alone is worth the trip to Southern Illinois.
The room was reasonably priced, clean, quiet, and comfortable. The free continental breakfast offered what one would expect: fresh coffee, hot tea, cereal, bagels, and yogurt. While it’s not brunch at the Waldorf, it’s the perfect way to start your morning before exploring the area.
One of the best parts is that it is pet friendly. Unfortunately, I was not traveling with my pets, however there was a dog next door that I never heard once. I am sensitive to smells and although it is pet friendly, I could not smell any trace of a previous furry friend that had stayed in my room.
The staff were exceptionally friendly, accommodating, and seemed genuinely eager to make me feel at home.
Personally, I have to say that the highlight of my stay was the impeccably dressed doorman, Oliver. Granted, he was a little chatty, he could be demanding at times, refused to hold the door open or even help with the bags, but that was easily overlooked because of his friendly demeanor.
I failed to mention, Oliver is the resident cat, and for anyone that thinks cats do not have personalities has clearly never met Oliver. While he is always present, he is never in the way. He has his own house; he is well cared for, vetted and truly a goodwill ambassador for SureStay.
If you’re traveling through Southern Illinois and want a clean, comfortable, and welcoming place to stay, do yourself a favor and book a room at SureStay Hotel in Whittington. You might even get to meet Oliver, the hotel’s local celebrity.
- Denise (7/5): - Beds were super comfy. There is a really bad smell in the hallways like gas
- Peter (10/5): -
- Morris (5/5): -
- Tara (9/5): -
- Patricia (9/5): - Did not eat there Ice machine on every floor
- Judy (6/5): - There is nothing around really. Plenty of parking. We stayed for a quick overnight and continued on our way in the am. The continental breakfast was subpar. Nothing hot at all basically cold cereal, yogurt bread or a muffin some juice and the milk was 3 days past expiration. Carpet in the breakfast area was grungy. Very small room and mostly high top tables. Bed and room were ok. Shower curtain showed some mold.
- Stephen (10/5): - Great place to stay.
- Louis (10/5): - It was a nice stay. It was very quiet and easy to relax and sleep. The staff was very friendly and nice. If I had any complaints at all, it would be nice if they had fresher bagels and doughnuts for the breakfast.
- Nikki (10/5): - Easy to get to
- William (10/5): Great motel to stay while visiting the winery across the road a ways. - Easy access to anywhere, clean comfy room. Elevator needs ac or fan in it,extremely hot, pray it doesnt break down.2 nd trip there they had power outage issues, when electric came back elevator not operable.thats the only bad thing i see there.
- Sean (10/5): - Friendly and accommodating staff! Breakfast is continental. Nicely kept hotel and great value for the price!

Staff was excellent. The tub/shower is a little small. I’m handicapped and had hard time getting in and out. Had my dog with me so couldn’t get handicap room. Would suggest grab bars in shower.
- Jennifer (4/5): - There were so many ants in our room! In the beds and the room smelled like cigarettes! It was honestly gross! I would skip and go to next town!
- Sandra (10/5): Wonderful location and friendly people.I would stay there again. - Staff very friendly

- Mark (10/5): - Very friendly staff. Very clean.
- Ron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (8/5): recommend - quiet and clean, away from busy roads and traffic
- Erin (10/5): - We had originally two different stays, but ended up extending our stay to be one long stay, it was very easy to do! However, the hotel keys kept not working because we would put them by our phones or in our wallets. This was frustrating.
- Gabriela (4/5): Disappointing -
- Brown (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cassandra (2/5): - The room smelled moldy and damp. We found multiple bugs in the room. Comments are misleading. Breakfast was cereal and bagels in a bin. It was not worth the price.
- Derek (6/5): - The advertised breakfast amounts to just cereal and toast. The few pastries there were for picked over right away. Wouldn't have been a big issue but the hotel has no other options reasonably close.
- Ivan (10/5): - Quiet place. Going through some renovations and our room was updated nicely.
- Angela (4/5): - Fine enough accommodation generally speaking, but did see roaches in my room. Was surprised based on how highly rated this hotel is.
- Jeanne (6/5): - There are plenty of other places to stay nearby, wished we'd have chosen another property. No one wants to have to change rooms once they've settled in. Staff is bare bones, had trouble finding someone to report to when we left this morning. Also, no restaurants nearby, or open on Mondays so had to eat what we had leftover from our earlier lunch. If all you need is a bed for a few hours it works, otherwise you'd be best to find another spot.
- Judy (9/5): Clean rooms, good location, friendly staff - Good location Breakfast could have been better
- John (8/5): - All in all a good clean place and good price. Stayed one night amd wpuld do it again
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good value - Easy check-in, quiet. Set expectations low for the breakfast and you'll be fine.
- Anita (8/5): - Very good place to stay
- Arleen (10/5): - Room very nice. Clean and spacious. Bed was comfy.
- david (10/5): - e
- Christy (10/5): - This is a lovely new place that's pretty far removed from traffic noises or busy streets. The bed is comfy and parking is super close to my room.
- Cedric (4/5): - Ok
- Martin (8/5): - A few small detail need attention
- Ressler (10/5): It was a no frills property to stop and rest to get ready to travel again. Just what I needed! - It was a great location, quiet and had a nice big area for dogs.
- Brenda (10/5): - Checked in with Amy, and got restaurant referrals from her. Everything was great.
- Sandra (10/5): - Very comfortable bed. Clean room. Quiet. Easy parking.
- Marilyn (10/5): Nice place to stay - Our stay was very nice. The hotel is clean and all the staff were very friendly. The beds are comfortable. My only complaint was that it is so small the front desk people have other duties, so we had to wait a little bit to check in and out. But, that was no big deal. The hotel met our basic needs - a clean place to sleep and shower. It's a nice place.
- Craig (6/5): - Rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. Bird poop all over both entries. Not close to dining or shopping. Continental breakfast was weak!
- Brandy (8/5): Good hotel for last minute necessity - Property is under renovation. The swrvice was good. Facilities were clean even thoigh construction seems to be on going. The breakfast was good, could have more options. The property has an issue with bird feces, it wouldnt be an issue, but it is built up by the front doors to the entrance of lobby
- John (10/5): Great place to stay - Excellent staff Nothing
- Laura (8/5): - Good Hotel with a comfy bed. Moderately priced. No frills breakfast- nothing fancy. Cereal and toast, with a few bagels and muffins.
- Susan (6/5): Question the high price - Nice, clean and fairly new hotel. However a little over priced and no breakfast offered. Just sugary cereal and stale bagels and apples. That is not breakfast!
- Christine (6/5): Mediocre but clean - The rating was 8.8 so we expected something updated. It was clean but the pillows were terribly hard and uncomfortable. The rooms were decorated in the 1970s as was the hotel. However, staff was friendly and the bathroom was updated as well. The carpet needs replaced throughout the hotel as do the drapery and entry.
- Jansma (7/5): Convenient clean affordable - Convenient location, older but clean. Petn friendly for a usual price. Nothing. It met my expectations for the price.
