Noisy due to traffic on road immediately outside of the room, especially emergency response vehicles passing through the adjacent traffic junction at night.

- Shu-pin (9/5): Lovely old pub in superb location - Spacious, comfortable room with large bathroom (and bath) in a characterful old pub. Spotlessly clean with tea and coffee facilities beautifully presented. Although next to a major city junction with only single glazing (I'm assuming because the building would be listed) our room was surprisingly quiet - at least on the Thursday night we were there. Location could not be better - only 60 seconds' walk from the city walls and within easy walking of the historic centre. Staff very pleasant, breakfast (included) very nice, off-street parking and good beer. We'll happily book here again when we visit next year. Nothing

- Ellacott (7/5): Lovely pub (food was great too!) lovely owners & staff, nice clean room and facilities . Short walk into York - Staff were lovely, especially the owner. Location was good, close to the wall and hop on -hop off bus. Sadly, we were in the front room and was next to the main road- it was so loud. The room was super hot so we were torn between having windows open or shutting out some of the noise. The pub noise was fine, the main road was hard going. I would recommend the hotel either providing fans for the rooms or bring yourself one.

Car parking really good and included in price which is not easy to find in York. Short walk into York centre along street with many food and drink options to suit all tastes. Good food menu kitchen open all day and food was cooked to order, exceptional quality well cooked and presented. Nothing to dislike all very good.

- NeilKelly77 (10/5): Busy pub - On a beautiful but bitterly cold March afternoon my twin brother and I were pub hopping around this part of the city when we decided to drop by The Rose And Crown Pub, been here before on many occasions, always had a good time and so it proved on our latest visit to here. A great looking pub,interior is superb, multi roomed, dark wood features abound throughout this pub, eclectic decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its just a really good pub to unwind in. We ordered beers from Carling Brewery, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling, we chilled out and planned out the day ahead while sipping our beers. A big fan of this most famous of British beers, an easy drinking lager, when this beer is served freezing cold as in this pub its such a delicious beer indeed, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a delicious beer and sat with my twin brother, best beer companion in the world. We both really enjoyed our beers in here, couldn't fault anything about our visit here before we moved on, can't wait to go again next time we're in York hopefully very soon. The Rose And Crown Pub is easy to locate along Lawrence Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Saturday, midday till 11pm. Sunday, midday till 10.30pm. A great pub,most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

- Clinton (3/5): The property is very convenient to the city with free parking. The meals need tj be improved. - The property was within walking distance to the city. It was a 10-15 minute walk. We had stayed at this property before albeit a few years ago but it was fabulous then that was the reason we rebooked there. The staff were nice & helpful. We had a meal on the night of our arrival & the pie was dry & horrible, the chips were cold. The starters we had were lovely. I had scrambled egg for breakfast & it tasted awful & was just a yellow mass on my plate & unable to eat it. In my option the property needs to be updated as it looks very tired.

- StephenKelly88 (10/5): Amazing Pub And Guesthouse. - Me and my twin love visiting York as there's so many historic pubs and one of the pubs we went to was called the Rose&Crown on Lawrence street.Its outside the walls but it was only a short walk away from the place we were staying in. It was established in 1786 and its housed in a superb period building that looks superb especially when illuminated at night.It's got a traditional pub interior with local fixtures and feature's and excellent seating area's and when we visited here it was as busy as can be especially during the week. We were visiting a brilliant craft beer bar in this area (The Rook&Gaskill) but we went in here first for a quick beer.They have a very good food and drinks range in here but on our visit we only had a few beer's.When me and my twin were here we had a couple of Timothy Taylor's Brewery Landlord ales'an excellent cask ale which was amazing and reasonably priced considering the pub me and my twin brother were in and where this amazing old world pub is located. Its a traditional pub and guesthouse and a place that's well worth going to as the staff were superb as was the service as were its beers and its a pub we'll go again the next time were in York.(This is my second review of the Rose&Crown). Opening Hours. Monday-Saturday-12.00-23.00. Sunday-12.00-22.30.

- REBECCA (10/5): Fabulous pub, great location, brilliant staff and excellent food - SUPERB! - We stayed for 3 nights and the Rose and Crown was even better than we expected. Superb location just outside the city walls but in very easy walking distance of the centre. Comfortable room, great shower (!), breakfasts were fabulous, the staff were all lovely, and the evening meal we had was fantastic. Great ambience in the pub and the only issue we had was that sadly we got back too late one night to join in the pub quiz as we lost track of time - not that we would have troubled the score card, but still! Anyway, R&C was brilliant, the staff were amazing and hopefully we can come back soon! Nothing - it was all brilliant!
- Elizabeth (10/5): Great place, I'll go to it again if I'm in York. - I really enjoyed my stay. It's a lovely historic building with very friendly staff and really good food at a reasonable price. The rooms are above the bar but it wasn't noisy - I drifted off to sleep hearing only the gentle burble of people talking and passing traffic. And we had no trouble parking the car in the small car park. There are steep stairs up to the rooms, but as long as that isn't a problem I'd strongly recomend this place.

The staff were absolutely lovely and the breakfast was delicious. The walk into the city centre was short and direct, so the location was perfect. Will definitely try to stay here again on our next trip to York. Highly recommend. Thank you. The radiator wasn't heating up despite being on so it was rather chilly at night. But we just slept in an extra t-shirt and put this down to the heating being switched off at night. It wasn't something that bothered us too much and didn't impact our stay at all.

- Matthew (10/5): Rose & Crown, cracking place to stay! - This was our first stay at the Rose & Crown, but not our first stay in York. On arrival we were warmly greeted, despite arriving early. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, just being on the edge of the city walls and easy to get to in the car. There is free parking for guests, and we readily found a space. The place itself is lovely and full of character, with a good bar and a fantastic selection of whisky if that's your thing. The room was spotless, with decor befitting the character of the property, and plenty of tea/coffee etc. The shower was very good, which is key. Given it is on a relatively busy road and we had a room overlooking the street, we found it quiet enough and had a very restful sleep. Breakfast in the morning was excellent, service was very friendly, the guys there couldn't do enough for you. We had full English breakfasts and it was great. I can't recommend the Rose & Crown highly enough. Great location, great room, great food, good bar and most importantly friendly and helpful staff. A very pleasant stay from start to finish, no doubt we will stay again. Highly recommended. Nothing, we had an exceptional stay.

Perhaps breakfast hours could be extended to 10am, rather than finishing at 9.30am. Good atmosphere in bar/ restaurant in the evening. Staff were excellent. Rooms were very clean and well maintained. Traditional made pies a menu speciality. WiFi signal was strong in our room. The over bath shower had very good power, and although the bath was quite low, it would be helpful if a grab rail could be installed to help ease of getting in and out of bath.

Sunday evening had the pies...tasty well filled, crisp pastry..very good. On site parking included in price. There is a busy road outside bedrooms so some road and street noise but you know this when booking -having easy walking access to city more than makes up for this.

As a family of four it was perfect for one night and we woke to a breakfast menu that we would have paid top dollar for anywhere else only to find out it was all included in the price! Then such a quick walk to the main centre and shambles.

- Leigh (7/5): Brilliant location comfortable bed but few issues - Comfortable bed, brilliant location for town centre and barbican centre and free parking. Staff were attentive and helpful. The bathroom was a little worn with some mould inbetween tiling and on shower head. The food was not great. First night the Cumberland sausage was not cooked through and was pink in the centre. Breakfast scrambled egg was grey and tasted awful.

- Neil (9/5): Excellent location, atmosphere, staff and meals. - All very good. Room was a bit too hot at night for sleeping - needs a TRV fitting to radiator.
- Roger (9/5): A great stay. Very relaxing and convenient location. - Close to the university for the marathon. Room was lovely. There were a couple of long hairs in the bathtub but other than that all facilities were very clean.
