Guest Reviews
- Keri (2/5): - We were given a ground floor room in the adjacent house next to the main hotel. As we walked in, it smelt very strongly of damp. There was mildew on the ceiling, walls and net curtains. It is a budget hotel and we did not expect the Ritz but even the basic fixtures and fittings have not seen an upgrade for many, many years. After the first night, I woke up with a burning throat and chest due to the damp musty air. We asked to change rooms. We were given a very small double room in the main hotel that was barely big enough to fit the double bed. Again, the fixtures and fittings hadn't seen an upgrade since around the 1960s. Worse still, the room still smelt of damp which was coming from the bathroom. Again, there was mildew on the curtains. The bathroom ceiling has clearly had a recent leak. The floor laminate was badly rucked below the ceiling leak. We promptly checked out. We've been liaising with Expedia for a refund for our remaining 3 nights but the hotel only want to refund us for two as they 'gave us a different room' which we checked out of after 30mins! The public areas downstairs smelt of smoke and had ashtrays full of cigarettes. If you don't mind the health hazard of damp and cigarettes, you will enjoy it here!
- elizabeth (10/5): - Hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. A nice homely atmosphere. No lists of does and don'ts as in some hotels.
- John (6/5): - No breakfast available.
Room was small.
Cheap mattress.
Tiny TV.
Not as per photos on website.
Smallest shower ever seen.
Staff very friendly.
- Christina (8/5): Clean, comfortable. Great for a one night stop. - Clean, comfortable room with en-suite shower. Basic but fine if you need to stay overnight for any reason, Reception staff helpful and friendly. Free parking a plus. Bring toiletries as you only get a sachet of shower gel. I always take my own anyway. Couldn’t find a hairdryer so maybe there isn’t one or maybe you have to ask Reception .
- Vera (8/5): Lovely place - Its a lovely place to stay. Everyone was so frienly. Its on a good bus route so i wnt to many different places during my stay. It was so clean.
The room could do with a fresh lick of paint to brighten it up.
On the negative side i wish the could be a bit more varity on the breakfast side such as yogurt fruit.
- Susan (6/5): cheap but not so cheerful - The room was clean enough and quiet enough. The public areas are pretty dirty and smelly.
- Roger (8/5): - Room adequate, cleaned and fresh towels everyday, spacious for a single bed room
- Paul (10/5): - We had a great stay at the oyo Goldolphin Hotel, food was excellent, staff were excellent, room was great, we highly recommend the oyo Goldolphin Hotel.
- Charlotte (4/5): Shocking. - Hotel was very dirty and smelt damp throughout the hallways, walls were paper thin and could literally hear the next rooms breathe. We were told free parking on premises but there was nothing, we had to park 4 streets away with our heavy bags. Bathroom had no heating and was very cold. I’m not being a Karen this is a genuine review, bedding was paper thin and the curtains blocked no light. This place is in serious need of a refurb. I paid £80 for one night in this place and I feel completely robbed.
- Robert (8/5): - Only stayed for one night, staff were great breakfast was ok easy parking , served it’s function well for my requirements
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good value hotel - A "budget" hotel with the basics that you are looking for. Comfortable bed and clean room / bathroom. A very good dinner. Good value
- SHERMAINE (6/5): Average - Room facing road was too noisy. Hotel bit far from rail station.. But breakfast was not bad.
- Rachael (4/5): - My booking got cancelled days before my visit and wasn’t offered another alternative so had to find another b&b last minute
- Nathan (10/5): Fantastic hotel - Lovely hotel, the staff are very polite and helpful. Very clean rooms, hot shower or bath. Only 10/15 minute walk into town or nearest beach. Breakfast was on point and the service was great. Would definitely stay again.
- MELIZA (6/5): - Shower had mold in it food was displayed unappetisingly noisy outside the window (room wasn’t on the main road so not traffic noise) construction and loud people def wouldn’t rate hotel 3 star
- Geoffrey (10/5): No complaints for the price. - Had a comfortable stay for a couple of nights whilst Boardmasters was on. Decent location to walk down to Lusty Glaze for a chill out before walking down the surf all the way to the walkabout for a quick lunch time pint before heading over to fistral for the surfing. The staff were so friendly and breakfast was lovely and parking was easy considering the time of year. Would certainly consider it again next year if I don't do the whole festival again because as somewhere to park, lay your head and wash before going out and spending the day on the beach it was all we needed.
- Seung (10/5): - Nice and cosy, breakfast was good
- John (6/5): Cheap but tired - The hotel is cheap however the room was very tired. Parking is free however limited as the hotel is above a pub. The hotel is appropriate for contractors but not for families.
- Glenn (10/5): Will stay again. - Good room with en-suite bathroom. Clean and tidy
- Stephen (8/5): My view - Small room and on suite
Thin walls
Very clean
Good food
On site parking
Price very reasonable
Well positioned for newquay
Ok for a short break
- Verified traveler (6/5): - For a ‘deluxe’ room the bed was uncomfortable Shower pressure wasnt great and the room had a musky/damp smell to it and breakfast was very basic. But overall staff were very welcoming and free parking was a bonus.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Pleasant hotel. Lovely helpful staff. Rooms cleaned with fresh towels on a daily basis. Good hot and cold breakfast. Thank you
- Verified traveler (4/5): Poor value for money - We had a disappointing stay at the Godolphin. While the staff were lovely, the facilities weren’t great. We slept poorly due to the uncomfortable bed, the amount of light let in by the curtains, and the thin walls which meant we could hear people coming in and out of the entrance. The parking was also really bad - we got blocked in on the second day, which meant we missed breakfast and had to walk to and back from our surfing lesson first thing in the morning 40 minutes away! We noticed we had been blocked in the night before so we spoke to a staff member, who said the van had parked there as they would leave by 6am, which was not the case. Overall, we felt that the hotel is overpriced.
- Fabiano (10/5): Nice hotel with tasty breakfast - Really lovely hotel 15 min walk to town, lovely tasty breakfast, with pub and garden. Staff so friendly and great service. Good value for money.
- Bogdan (4/5): Don't recommend - The breakfast is awful and people who servingthefoodthey speak rude, the room have been cleaned but the mattress is to old , i could feel all the springs and pillow is not good. Disappointing for a family trip
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I unfortunately caught COVID a couple of days before going to the hotel and because I was ill I forgot to cancel the hotel online and they have charged me the full amount for the stay
I have since contacted the hotel and they say there is nothing they can do as I should have cancelled
I have since read reviews on other sites and if I had read these first before booking I would have not done so
- am (10/5): Great place to stay - Great place to stay well located for Porth Beach and Newquay Beach and center. friendly and helpful staff,Breakfast was really good and the evening meals where great would not hesitate to book again if we could.
- Andrew (8/5): 2 night stay - Good location for our stay car park a little small for the amount of guests but we still managed to get a space friendly staff had the basics what we needed some parts like the bathroom had been modernised but other parts looking a little old but still clean and tidy would stay again
- Russell (4/5): Expectations and price! - good value hotel so wasn't expecting much. the walls must be paper thin because i had the pleasure of listening to a bunch off blokes in the next room being blokes till 1am ish!
the room smelt of damp
- Joanne (8/5): Rooms in Rome - Accommodation was very clean, some rooms abit dated but comfortable, breakfast was good and staff very accommodating
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very friendly staff
- Maria (8/5): Nice stay. - Nice stay. Will come back.
- Tabitha (6/5): - Shower didn’t work an bunk beds weren’t great but was ok
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All staff was extremely friendly would recommend staying here to anyone
- James (10/5): Realy cozy hotel - The hotel is a little bit out of the centre of the city (walking distance), but it was clean, comfortable, quiet and it included a really good English breakfast. Pub on site too. The bus stop is right out. I would stay again.
- Alban (8/5): Nice little hotel - Nice little hotel, perfect for my solo trip, not the fanciest one but it does the job, the staff is very nice.
- Emma (10/5): Highly Recommend - This hotel wins high marks based on staff friendliness! It is slightly dated but the rooms are very clean (which is very important in my opinion)and at a good price. Good social distancing in place.
Owner and staff very accommodating to guests and make you feel very welcome! I highly recommend staying here. I recommend having a meal there to.
- Glen (10/5): Basic and to the point - Nice comfortable clean room with enough conveniences to keep me happy for my visit.
Good value for money and most definitely suitable for a cheap weekend away.
It’s a shame COVID is still being given airtime as I think being able to eat and drink in the bar would have been fun.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Helped me out during the pandemic. Clean rooms. Friendly staff.
- Barry (2/5): Awful - I left or rather was asked to leave after one uncomfortable cold night in a dusty, unclean hotel with zero service. Never again!
- David (6/5): Business trip - This was during a lock-down so considering this I was grateful it was open. Very clean room, bed was comfy.
- Ibikunle (10/5): - Good value for money. A little dated but very clean and comfortable.
- Ibikunle (10/5): - Great value for money. Unfortunately my stay was during the COVID lockdown so I wasn’t able to enjoy the food which has wonderful reviews. I’ll gladly book to stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Wedding stay - Room was very small not what I was expecting. Bathroom was a cupboard and shower wasn’t clean. Staff very friendly and breakfast was lovely.
- Elisa (10/5): - Lovely stay, free breakfast and close to beach for our mini break!
- Verified traveler (4/5): short visit - The location is great for Newquay or surrounding beaches. Hotel very dated and needs a clean. Staff very nice.
- Dean Paul (10/5): Short break. - Family run, and extremely friendly and helpful.
- Ana (4/5): Nothing to do with the photos - We spent 3 nights in this hotel and the very first impression is that the accommodation had nothing to do with the photos the have online.
Very poor housekeeping standards, even the curtains at the bathroom were dirty and broken.
Not very polite staff and limited quality on the breakfast. I wouldn't give them more than a 5 as a score.
- Steve (8/5): Nice traditional hotel with Sky sport in bar. - The hotel, is obviously traditional in nature. However, nice friendly place, a good bar with Sky sport, a nice breakfast in the morning. All in all very good value for money.
- Tracey (10/5): - Lovely staff, very clean, excellent value for money just a little bit dated in certain rooms.. will definitely go again.
