Guest Reviews
- Christopher (5/5): - Some of the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was large and clean The entrance and stairs were very dirty. When we went to eat in the evening most things we ordered had run out. Breakfast was supposed to be at 8am but the restaurant wasnt open till about 8.15 and the chef arrived about 10 mins later, when breakfast finally arrived it was cold.
- Cyrielle (10/5): - L'hôtel est très bien situé, avec le restaurant en dessous qui était très bon. La chambre était grande et très confortable ! Rien à redire, c'est un excellent rapport qualité/prix.
- Marcelina (3/5): - No working heating and no hot water in the shower
- Alison (9/5): - Large, clean room. Excellent location with parking. The room could have been a bit warmer
- Christine (8/5): Nice pub with modern rooms - Very comfortable beds. Food ok. Quiet room Broken shower door
- Fischer (8/5): - Der Weg zu den Zimmern ist sehr verwinkelt, die Rezeption direkt im Restaurant - aber das Zimmer war sehr gut. Eine Bedienung war sehr patzig zu uns.
- Ashley (8/5): - The property was great value for money, room was nice and clean. Exactly what I expected for the price.
- Frank (8/5): Very hands little guesthouse with its own restaurant and pub. Convenient location, ample parking and extremely welcoming - Restaurant and pub downstairs , very handy . Very welcoming staff and plenty of parking at the back . If I have to say something negative , which is not major thing . Check in system confusing as it’s in the bar ( no major issue) bedroom space limited with one of the beds blocking the whole bathroom door . No major neither . It did the job
- Nathalie (8/5): - Literie excellente ! Bien pour une étape, sans plus
- Andrew (10/5): - Clean and comfortable room. Staff were friendly and helpful.
- Aum Shanti (8/5): 😕 - Food and the room size 😋 The.loud nightclub nois until the early hours 🎵 also the weather was not nice 🏴
- Robert (10/5): I'm glad I found this. - The beds were so comfortable within decent sized rooms, and the accommodation was really clean. The route to the rooms was a bit unusual.
- Paul (8/5): Enjoyed my stay. - Large, comfortable room and bed. Door would not lock from then outside.
- Patricia (7/5): Neat and tidy room above a noisy pub. - Convenient location It was above a very noisy pub. This should be mentioned in the description.
- philippe (6/5): Correct - Correct calme Rien
- Julie (9/5): The attic - The room was fresh and beautifully appointed. A relaxing feel about it. Nothing
- Rosalind (8/5): I would stay there again. - Delicious evening meal on the restaurant. Lovely room and en-suite. A warm welcome, friendly staff.
- Christine (8/5): Good accommodation - Friendly welcome and good service
- Murray (9/5): -
- Kevin (8/5): - The rooms are above the restaurant and ours was also above the pub next door which is also owned by the same place. Pub was extremely noisy but the host did say he would have the music turned off which happened later on. Food in the restaurant was good. Handy for the shops in Thurso as well. A fair stop on the NC500. Noisy and the frontage from the carpark looks a bit like a hostel but is nice inside.
- Anthony (3/5): - Was given a key to a room with someone already in it. I walked in on them and gave them a shock.
- Alan (8/5): - Meal location excellent food
- Graham (3/5): As I replied when asked by the member of staff who grudgingly took my groom keys. It was okay grudgingly took my room - Location Going outside to enter accommodation area. Entrance carpets were dirty. Room decoration needs attention. Shower enclosure - broken door with shower curtain as replacement . 4 vials of shampoo - no shower gel. Shelf required in shower enclosure. Hooks required in bathroom for towels Staff require some customer service training.
- Le Peltier (8/5): - Très bon emplacement au centre de la petite ville .
Chambre spacieuse et salle de bain chauffée.
Au restaurant ,décor chaleureux et plats bien cuisinés.
Nombreuses ballades dans la région.

- Guest (7/5): Great location - Great location Room could have been cleaner with carpet needing more cleaning
- Leateasha (4/5): Not as pleasant as we hoped. - Staff were very friendly. Restaurant down stairs was lovely. Only 1 towel was provided between 2 people. Carpets were very stained.. did not feel comfortable walking barefoot on them. No hand wash as provided. Coffee and tea was provided but no milk so therefore we were unable to make a morning coffee. One of the windows in our room would not close. Beds were 2 single beds joined together. Both mattresses were different.. one side was firm and the other was incredibly soft (sunk into the bed).
Duidelijk verslapen! Geen ontbijt!

- Guest (8/5): was good - room, supper, location
- Hazel (8/5): A very good base from which to explore that corner of Scotland and perfectly acceptable accomodation - There was a problem with the twin room booked for us,but we were upgraded at no extra charge to a large king-size room, which was comfortable and perfectly acceptable and suitable for us. No complaints about the room or the service. The Inn is centrally positioned and parking was straightforward. The staff were all friendly and helpful. There were stairs to climb to get to our room, but that is not the fault of the hotel-rather the fact that we are in our 70's and not as fit as we were ! We did manage. The onsite restaurant was very useful, but as a vegetarian,I could have done with a few more creative choices. Again,I managed, but any more macaroni cheese (which was delicious) and I would have started to look like a pasta tube !
- Elly (10/5): Outstanding large room. Very clean, great food and delicious breakfast - Clean modern and fun
- HANNAH (10/5): Exceptional and outstanding - Excellent service and very loving and approachable staff. We were very pleased with the service.
- Jann (8/5): Very good - Room great staff helpful meal good8 No complaints

- Paul (7/5): Nice and central in Thurso - This is more of an 'Inn' in the tradition of a place to eat that happens to have a few rooms you can stay at. The locations is excellent, central and opposite the Co-op if you need any supplies. While it lacks dedicated parking, there is a modest council car park outside that has no time-restrictions (unlike the larger Co-op park). The meals were good and service similar. The rooms were comfortable and fairly modern (by standards of other Thurso hotels) and the WiFi was reliable with a few access points around the building, although it seemed a bit slow (but that could be a deliberate per-user limiting for fair use, etc). Breakfast started at 8am or a bit later, as they don't really focus on those lodging there. Also you were expected to go outside and in the front restaraunt door rather than use an internal fire door largely as that needed some screws fixed on the door catch.
- Henri (7/5): 1 nuit sur notre roadtrip - Chambres confortables. Facile d’accès. Parking. Pas vraiment de charme mais bien et parfait pour 1 nuit lors d’un roadtrip.
- Bryan (9/5): -
- Gauld (8/5): -
- Amelia (10/5): Great little inn with friendly staff and an excellent bistro - The staff were so helpful, we had driven up from Sheffield (12hrs drive including stops), they booked us a table for an evening meal.in the bistro which was excellently cooked.
The rooms were good sizes, comfortable and clean.
We only stayed one night before getting the ferry to Orkney from Scrabstee would have happily stayed a couple more
- Claude (9/5): Superb - Spacious rooms, friendly staff
- Jessica (8/5): Very good -
- Aleksandr (10/5): Exceptional - Very helpful staff, helped us to arrange a boxing translation on the pub TV. Good food in restaurant and very welcoming atmosphere
- Kylie (7/5): Good -
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Stuart (9/5): Superb - Location and food excellent Room door key did not function properly
- Theresa (8/5): Very good - It was a good value.
- Terry (7/5): Good - It was handy for the town. The room was great nice and big and well maintained. Very good shower on the whole a nice place to stay. I felt that the entrance to the hotel was like the trademans entrance, round the back. The stairs carpet could do with a good clean and the whole stairs area brightening up. Also 2 fights of stairs to our room no lift.
- Elena (7/5): Good -
- Leeanne (2/5): Poor - Nice and central We arrived for breakfast at the time it opened and were told by a female staff member “I’ve got things to do I won’t be opening yet”
So we left without breakfast which I find unacceptable
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- Jean (6/5): It was adequate. Lovely meal in the restaurant. Not value for money for the room. - Beds clean and comfortable
Restaurant had good food and reasonable prices
Location Sticky bedroom door
Shower drain blocked causing overflowing and shower door not working probably, also shower temperature very hot and no ability to vary
Shower could do with some mould remover
No bedside lighting or small lights on dressing table
- Kim (8/5): Very good - The restaurant had a great atmosphere and room was comfy Room on top floor a bit of a hike for those with bad knees.
Room was a little warm
- Vera (7/5): Good -
- Sam (5/5): Just ok. Not awful but not great either - Good location. Friendly staff. Easy to park up. Dated decor. Hallways and landings need a serious new carpet and lick of paint.
Room was ok but we cleared 3 cobwebs and spiders and the carpet was dirty as well as wet under the velux window which had been left open despite the rain.
Staff were friendly but clearly stretched as the housekeeper was also front of house.
Not awful. But not great either.
- Elaine (9/5): Superb -
- Elaine (9/5): Superb - Friendly staff clean room good food in restaurant
- Dan (3/5): Avoid if possible, will not stay there again. - Very little. 1) excessive noise
2) not sure on the safety of the room as the door closer had been discontented
3) the lock had been forced and a temporary wooden panel had been placed behind the door handle.
4) a small metal bar been attached to the shower so you couldn’t turn it on fully
5) toilet roll holder not accessible when using the toilet due to its distance from the toilet.
6) the shower didn’t drain the water away so you couldn’t turn only use it for 2 mins before it over filled.
7) no staff in the morning to check out with
8) mould in shower
- Heffernan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anne (7/5): Good -
- Kevin (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (9/5): Overall a good place and location. - The room was clean and comfy. Loud music being played down stairs
- Manon (8/5): Nice place with good food - Nice spacious room, good hot shower and food in the restaurant was lovely. I personally don’t really like carpet in the room as it makes it look a bit tired.
- Conner (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly staff.
- Donna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Beth (9/5): Lovely spot in Thurso - Incredible room. Large, nice windows. Clean. Staff were helpful, kind, and went the extra mile to help with luggage and to get us places to sit in the restaurant for meals. The stairs were a lot to navigate for someone with mobility issues.
- Judy (9/5): Superb - We had a meal in the evening which we enjoyed. The room was cosy and very clean. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful .
- Mark (6/5): Basic comfortable accomodation. reasonably priced. - Comfortable room with the basic facilities. Welcoming staff. A few minor maintenance issues. Breakfast not included despite statement on their website - obviously not part of Booking.com price, which was disappointing.
- Marrianne (8/5): Comfortable but ould improve. - Location. Meal was nice in the restaurant and young man was helpful when we couldn’t get into the room allocate to us. Some initial problems with door locks not functioning well and made us concerned about being able to lock and get back into the room. Also instead of normal size towels we were left with 3 hand towels to use.
- Jan (8/5): Suitable and efficient stopover - Good restaurant in the building, parking facility available, not far from the Srabsterferry to the Orkney's
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Tina (8/5): Nice overnight stay - Comfortable room Nothing
- Claire (9/5): Great stay - We had a fab stay, the room was huge and we were treated to a super king size bed! We had food in the restaurant which was lovely. They did have a breakfast menu as well. Shower was a bit tricky due to it being fully fixed in but was working fine.
- Vanessa (7/5): Good - Large room and shower was good despite shower curtain. Staff really helpful and polite. Was clean. Seemed very warn, only 1 bedside cabinet and chair, bed was warn. Windows didn't open.would of expected breakfast for the price. Had a BT of a hostel feel to it.
- Frances (8/5): I would recommend this place to friends. - Breakfast options very good. Food is great. Access to bedrooms is overly complicated. No wash supplies in the shower.
- Gordon (8/5): Apart from the loud music on a Saturday night this is a good value for money location - Nice comfortable and clean. Staff very helpful. Food on premises very good. I stayed on a Saturday night. The music was very loud. It did stop at 2300 but for some reason started again around 2345 for another 15 minutes or so.
- Sue (6/5): It had everything we needed for a stopover but we wouldn’t have stayed 2 nights. 1 is enough. - This was a basic property at an average price but cheaper than most in Scotland which we have found to be expensive for hotels/B&Bs. That said our beds were really comfortable and we slept really well and the staff were helpful. Good as a base to visit elsewhere. It was basic. Very limited toiletries provided, paper thin walls, noisy bar underneath which didn’t bother us but might bother some. Area is a bit grim. They could do with a reception rather than checking in and out via the restaurant with people eating.
- Joan (9/5): We had a lovely stay here. The room was very spacious and the bed comfortable - It was a very spacious room. Nicely furnished with good bathroom It was very quiet and in a good location The walk up to the room was a bit circuitous. Breakfast not included
- Gareth. (8/5): Very good - Great food, easy location to find, 2 min walk into Thurso Town, local parking available. Shower was a bit too hot, but bearable
- Godfrey (6/5): Convenient option for a one night stay before ferry crossing. - Location for needs with easy access to bus to ferry. Load music in restaurant evening and breakfast. Staff reluctant to reduce volume. No soaps available for washbasin or shower areas.
There was a bright green exit light in the bedroom which necessitated eye mask had to be worn during the night as light was very invasive
- Kathryn (9/5): Nice room with en suite and great restaurant. - Good sized room and a modern bath. I had great natural light in the room. It was in a good location. The restaurant served excellent food. Co Op food was very close by. No breakfast included and they had some construction at the entrance. Otherwise, it is a nice spot.
- Clara (10/5): Excellent and restful! - Wonderful service and excellent bed…so quiet it was great! And would recommend this place over and over! Lovely and walkable to all of Thurso and across the street from Coop Grocery. Additional was great restaurant attached - The Grill at YNot - excellent service and delicious food. Nothing.
- Jessica (9/5): Superb -
- Tina (10/5): Very very nice - Everything Nothing
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laura (5/5): It did the job but I wouldn’t stay twice - Price point The staff were stand offish and rude
- Alasdair (5/5): Goid value - The bar staff were friendly Basic
- David (10/5): Confortable - Great Place!! We’ll located, fantastic food and the best the People who work’s there!!
- Haisams (5/5): Passable -
- Colin (9/5): Excellent - Large spacious well decorated room and very good en suite bathroom.
- James (1/5): Disappointing. Would not book again. - The room booked was not serviced so we were relocated to a sister hotel a 20 min walk away on a windy and wet night. Revised location made a longer journey to the station in the morning.
- Daniel (7/5): A good stay, handy location. - Great mattresses, comfortable stay. Food was very good. Complimentary toiletries and biscuits well received. Staff really friendly. The toilet was not clean on arrival, there were some broken fixtures, like the glass on the table wasn’t attached…I’m not sure if this was meant to be or not. The kettle had water left in it. TV remote was temperamental
- Jane (6/5): Pleasant - Shower door not safe use for disabled lady and the blody noise from night club kept awake and door of room go in handle slack in and out
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Su (1/5): Check they're actually open for your booking ... - It looked good in the listing ... We received a message 7 days before our stay to say they would be closed. The comms from that point were lackluster - it took a couple of messages and a phone call to get a response confirming our booking . When we arrived, the place was in darkness - the Inn was closed. A staff member met us in the carpark to arrange our check-in. We paid the room rate, checked out the room ... at the end of several flights and a maze of corridors. We were the only people in the building - it was as though they kept our booking to get the money. Too creepy. We decided to cut our losses, return the keys and spend the night at a warm, welcoming, fully open hotel down the way.
Not our best experience - would recommend that when they close, they close.
