Une odeur singulière flottait dans la chambre. Des araignées avaient tissé leur toile dans certains recoins,et il y avais de la poussière.

Outside was really scruffy, it was disappointing on arrival. Car park with dog poo included. Outside, initial reception, breakfast and room.

• Cheryl (8/5): ‘Au clos de Charny’ superb - We didn’t stay at Le Cheval Blanc as it was closed for holidays, Hotels.com advised of a nearby chambres d’hôtes and we stayed there ‘Au clos de Charny’ which was lovely, our only problem was our room was up two flights of steep stairs. The room was spacious and clean with a large comfortable bed, a very nice shower room with a good shower. The breakfast was superb, a great choice of cheeses and charcuterie, breads, homemade jams, fresh fruit salad and yoghurt. The host is a lovely lady too.

Parked at the back of the hotel, the gate was locked at nighttime. Will definitely return again and again as only 15/20 min detour and well worth it. Could not check it until 530pm.

• Verified traveler (4/5): Pas pour les familles - Bof... L'amabilité devait être en option. Nous avons pourtant payé 10€ de plus que le prix mentionné sur hôtels.com. Les rideaux ne sont pas occultants donc le réveil est matinal et la literie du grand lit ne vous incite pas à rester trop longtemps au lit. Le petit déjeuner est pas mal pour des adultes mais pas de chocolat à tartiner, ni de céréales pour les enfants.Dommage

• Julia (10/5): Séjour 1 nuit en janvier 2020 - Dès l'entrée nous avons été bien accueillis. Nous avions réservé en plus de notre chambre une table pour le dîner. Nous avons été très agréablement surpris par la salle dont les poutres anciennes venaient d'être sablées. Il s'en dégage une atmosphère chaleureuse renforcée par la présence de la cheminée. Les plats étaient délicieux et bien copieux. Nous avons été bien conseillés pour le choix du vin (côte de beaune). La chambre est bien spacieuse, séparée en deux (un lit double et deux lits simples) et une grande salle de bain. L'endroit est très calme (la chambre est située dans un cour). Le lendemain matin, nous avons profité d'un petit déjeuner bien garni. Nous avons échangé quelques mots avec le sympathique propriétaire des lieux. En résumé, nous avons passé un très bon séjour. Nous ne pouvons que recommander l'établissement.

• Bernard (10/5): Agréable séjour à l'Hôtel du Cheval Blanc à Charny - Court séjour d'une nuit que ns avons passé au Cheval Blanc, très bien accueillis, personnel disponible et agréable, cadre sympa et au calme, la chambre très fonctionnelle et propre, sans compter le dîner avec des produits cuisinés maison de qualité, excellents et bien présentés pour un rapport qualité/prix très raisonnable.... A refaire à l'occasion d'un nouveau passage à Charny.... A noter que ds la ville de Charny toutes les pers. que ns avons croisées ns disent "Bonjour" et la Ville a sa rue principale avec ses commerces entièrement décorée de grosses fleurs de papier crépon rose, ce qui égaye beaucoup cette petite ville..... Ns avons été très satisfaits de notre petit séjour !

Mais pas de double rideaux dans ce sanitaire hormis de simples voilages, ce qui me donnait l'impression d'être en vue de tous. Une des prises électriques de la chambre ne pouvait pas être utilisée à cause d'un meuble trop près et trop lourd pour être déplacé. Une seule table de chevet, une seule chaise dans une chambre pour 2. Par ailleurs, les hôteliers sont aimables et le service restaurant et petit déjeuner est parfait.

Le maître des lieux, cuisinier de son état à accepté de nous faire à manger au pied levé alors qu'il venait de fermer sa cuisine.Ce fut à la fois simple et très bon. Carte des vins de la région bien adaptée ( Irancy 2013) MERCI ENCORE POUR VOTRE GENTILLESSE ET VOTRE ACCUEIL SI CHALEUREUX. La chambre avec mezzanine était parfaite. Les lits douillets et confortables. Petit déjeuner complet avec cerise sur le gâteau des croissants et yaourts. En conclusion : un accueil chaleureux, des prestations d'un très bon niveau, un rapport qualité/prix remarquable. Je recommande sans restriction.
• Jean-Pierre (10/5): Très bonne étape. - En route pour visiter La Fabuloserie située à Dicy à quelques 8 petits kilomètres de Charny nous avons fait étape à l'auberge du Cheval Blanc et nous en avons été très contents tant pour la chambre que pour le très bon dîner que nous y avons pris . De plus les propriétaires sont d'une grande gentillesse et pleins d'attention à vos demandes. Nous recommandons chaleureusement.
• Werner (6/5): Monday blues! - Restaurant closed on Monday. This was not clear on website. Restaurant looked good, but there's no place open on Monday night in Charny. Any other night it would be a plausible stop.

Nice medium sized room with large shower and an excellent mattress. Quiet location with nice walks in town. Staff were cheerful and helpful. Restaurant is outstanding, with nice ambience and great tasking food with excellent presentation. Not to be missed, in particular the 3 course supper for 23 euros

• Camille (10/5): Ancien mais charmant et de qualité - Première impression était mitigé car assez vieux notamment l'escalier qui monte à l'étage mais par contre assez rapidement j'ai apprécié la chambre On est un couple d'age mur et notre fils nous accompagnait et la chambre était un loft avec un grand lit en bas et 2 lits simple à l'étage donc chacun avait son intimité. La literie est de grande qualité Le petit déjeuné est très complets (pain, beurre confiture,jus de fruits, fruits, yaourt,croissants et au choix café, thé, chocolat) Conclusion très bon rapport qualité prix

• Heather (10/5): A hidden gem... - We were on our way to Paris and needed a room for the night. We were in no man's land with no good options for three people. We took a chance with Le Cheval Blanc and on a whim booked a room thinking it might end up being a night to remember (and not in a good way as it had no stars - in France, that is a very bad sign). Boy were we pleasantly surprised!! When we arrived, there was a problem with our booking as the only room that would hold 3 people was given to someone else. The owners gave us TWO rooms for the price of one room to make up for this. They asked if we wanted a table in the restaurant for dinner even though it was past their serving hours and of course we said yes. Once again, not disappointed! What a nice meal we had!! We retired to our rooms which were very nice and very clean. The owners have made great effort to update the rooms - they were cute and perfect. The next morning we had a very nice breakfast. An extra bonus was the owner's Golden Retriever, Happy...he sat on the stairs that were next to the dining room during dinner. He was such a cute dog and well trained! Overall, this hotel was the highlight of our trip. We will definitely come back again.
• Verified traveler (8/5): clean quiet hotel stay - used this hotel as a stopover hotel while driving through France. It was in a nice quiet town, not too far from the highway. Our only problem was that we stayed on a Monday night and the town of Charny(including this hotel's restaurant) is essentially closed on Monday nights, so we had to go to a nearby (20min drive) town for dinner. The hosts told us about a restaurant and it was a fantastic pizza place, so not a total loss. We did want to try the highly rated hotel restaurant. Perhaps another time.

• LizzieGates (8/5): The provincial hotel with a gourmand menu! - Real warmth of welcome and a menu that never disappoints - what more could you ask for on your way through unchartered France? The Yonne region is two hours south of Paris and British tourists seem to pass through on their way to better known areas. A mistake. The food and wine here offers some of the best examples in France (Chablis is almost the next village!) And the region contains historical experience worth the candle. Visit for example the Chateau St Fargeau - a huge chateau maintained for love through son et lumiere summer spectacles. And Guedelon is a medieval castle building site, where you can see original construction craft techniques in real-time! We were there for only four days - we would have loved to stay longer and we will return.
