Guest Reviews
- Glyn (8/5): Good value for money and ideally located. - Well placed for exploring Cricklade and Thames Path. Breakfast not available
- Ian (7/5): Good value stay - Location was great , Nothing to think of.
- ulrich (7/5): -
- Steve (9/5): -
- Fiona (7/5): - Very traditional, loved the old wire framed beds. Warm and cozy. The inside of the electric kettle was delaminating - not good.
A little bit noisy from the bar below but we were both so tired it wasn't really an issue.
Guests need to be aware that access up a very steep flight of external stairs.
- Simon (9/5): -
- Ian (9/5): -
- Jake (10/5): 5* we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. - Everything. The staff were excellent and very helpful.
It was clean spacious and comfortable. Great location in a lovely little village. The bar was great with the locals.
The 3 single beds were perfect for 3 lads working away. It was perfect. Nothing
- Zoe (8/5): A great stay and good value. - The ample free parking was a bonus and we were able to leave the car early and go off. The room was spacious and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The shower in bathroom was brilliant - wish I had one at home the same. Whilst the venue does not serve food there was a variety of options very nearby. Host recommended a curry restaurant and it was honestly the best curry we have ever had. There was nothing not to like.
- Christopher (8/5): Handy stop over in Cricklade - This venue offered me a room for the night which is just what I was after and didn't disappoint. Clean, spacious room in modern decor with a nice big bed and toilet and shower en suite. Complimentary tea and coffee with kettle in the room. It's all you need on an overnight stop when you just need a place to kip. Highlight was the shower which was powerful and as hot as you need it. Check in at the bar upon arrival and check out by dropping the key in the key box as you depart. Easy. I personally found the mattress too soft, and the pillows too firm, but maybe that's just me. Regardless I got my head down and slept the night so no damage.
- RACHAEL (7/5): - Location was good for walking the Thames Path (2min walk)
Comfy bed, good shower. Some fittings in the room need replacing as very tired. Although dog friendly, be aware there is no ‘green space’ locally. There is parking but gets busy.
No breakfast but we knew this and lovely cafe (Wild Fig, dog friendly) up the road which opened at 8 on Sat.
- Stephen (8/5): - Clean tidy room good sized bathroom with new fittings Only 3 pillows in a double room
- Eleanor (8/5): -
- Beth (8/5): - the Size of the room had three single beds which were perfect for us The only thing was it was upstairs which my elderly mum, struggled with. The owner said they do have room on the ground floor which would be better for us to stay in next time.
- Moira (10/5): - Excellent
- martin (8/5): Just what it said on the tin. Thank you. - Simple clean room, all I needed, plenty of tea, coffee and towels. Landlord and landlady polite and efficient. Happy stay.
- Denny (8/5): Excellent and will stay if we come by again - We went with a container of Cullen Skink soup from our travel to Edinburgh and we had not had any hotel which would help us heat it up and when we asked Steve, he readily agreed and even took the trouble to stir it now and then to ensure that it was thoroughly heated up. Steve went the extra mile for us.
We were very happy with the room and especially the en-suite bathroom. It is a luxury compared to others we have visited.
The location was excellent as it allowed us to park our car in the carpark and walk around the lovely village. Need to have a sign to warn guests of the possibility of being "blessed" by the pigeon's nest as we enter from the car park.
- Isabella (8/5): - Trevlig personal och bra läge Ljudligt från grannar
- JeffTaylor (8/5): A good budget sleeping place - The Old Bear is comfortable, has a good shower, and it's easy to come and go without going through the bar. Though they don't do food they recommended some lovely places which was very good. There was nothing in particular I didn't like. Just don't go expecting chocolates on the bed or similar. This is a great budget place for Thames path walkers
- warwick (8/5): -
- Rob (9/5): - Great location right on the high street
Friendly staff and great beer in the pub which had a fantastic atmosphere
The accommodation was in a converted barn type construction out the rear of the pub
The room was small and compact but with everything you could need
Shower was excellent and very hot
Bed was very comfortable Nothing
- O'Brien (7/5): Good value for simple bed for the night. - Clean, simple and not too expensive. The wall is thin, so you could hear everything the neighbour is doing! Luckily, our neighbour was quiet and only returned to the room after his night shift, so we weren't personally affected.
- Susan (7/5): Great location on the Thames Path - Location and very friendly staff No meals available at that time
- Adam (9/5): -
- Sanford (8/5): - Very clean good room Just a bit too hot
- Sanford (8/5): - Lovely spacious room, very clean, had all the things we needed Room was very hot and no way to turn off the heating
- Joann (8/5): -
- James (3/5): -
- Moira (10/5): - Excellent as always
- Dawn (10/5): Great stay would stay again - Great location lovely clean room. Staff exceptional. Would definitely recommend Nothing
- Sukyi (6/5): - No breakfast offered The room was above the main bar. Due to been a very popular place was a little noisy before last orders
- Emma (6/5): -
- Linda (9/5): Highly recommend. - Room was clean and comfortable. Hair dryer supplied, tea tray and kettle included. Nice big towels. I would come again and recommend this accommodation to others. Much cheaper than the conference hotel that everyone else stayed at, with a lovely cottage feel. Tescos in the High Street so breakfast was easy, although there was also a cafe nearby. Room felt a bit cold (felt like September outside not June) Perhaps heating was off as it should have been warm outside!!
- Michael (8/5): -
- Graham (7/5): good - Location and the pub atmosphere The walls in the room were thin
- Hannah (5/5): Basic but clean and comfy room, shame about the beer garden noise - Pros - room and en suite were clean, beds comfy, shower hot. Basic but fine. Would have been a very serviceable budget option if not for the cons (see below). Unfortunately the guest rooms are situated on the ground floor around the beer garden and there was loud noise directly outside our window until almost 1am. It was a Friday when we stayed, so perhaps other nights are better. We asked politely about closing the beer garden but apparently this wasn't possible.
My friend and I were walking the Thames Path and chose to stay at this place because it was only very slightly off the path itself. Unfortunately, when we tried to leave at 8am or so in the morning, the door to get through to the front of the pub (the high street) was locked and nobody was around to open it for us (prob sleeping off the night before) so we had to go out the back and spend 15 mins getting back to the path to officially begin our walk for the day.
Just a note for any other female travellers looking to visit this place, you will likely not feel comfortable sitting and having a drink at this pub. This is not a reason not to book a room but just something to keep in mind.
- Rachel (10/5): -
- Francesca (10/5): Lovely small inn - Everything was great. Lovely busy pub with lots of dogs. Had a pint before we met up at a friend's. Stepped in dog stuff on the way to the car the next morning.
- John (8/5): Good value accommodation. - Free parking about 10 metres from door of room.
Good shower and fair sized bathroom sink.
Good pint of real ale. Room didn't feel cramped, except not much room between end of bed and wall.
WiFi didn't reach to furthest room. But 4g service good.
Sockets weren't right by bed, no bedside lamp.
- VW1900 (10/5): Comfortable, clean and convenient. - Comfortable and convenient. Very easy to let yourself in after hours as accommodation was in a separate block to main inn building. Great location - on the high street. Everything was great !
- Jackson (7/5): -
- Susan (9/5): Friendly, clean & good value - Lovely friendly pub. Nice atmosphere 👌. Room was comfy, warm & good value for a night stop over. Lighting could have been better as only main light in bedroom so awkward if you needed bathroom in the night
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Ian (8/5): -
- bałakława (10/5): Great place to stay - Room, comfort. Friendly staff. Good restaurants around
- Newton (10/5): Landlord was helpful. Parking was bigger than I thought and the rooms are lovely - The rooms was lovely. The rooms are not connected to the pub so no worries on getting a good night sleep and the parking is big Nothing
- Brian (10/5): Very good day, nice few restaurants in the town and pubs very good - No breakfast, but the room was clean, tidy nice pub Nothing really
- Arturo (8/5): Amazing stay at Cotswolds - We had a great stay! The hotel was very accommodating with our arrival time and kept in touch to make sure everything went smoothly. There was convenient parking available, which was a big plus. The room was spotless and the bed was comfortable. Overall, great service and a pleasant experience highly recommended!

- sarah (10/5): - N/a N/a
- Catherine (10/5): Cosy and comfortable good value room for a good night’s sleep - Great location in lovely town, very comfortable beds, warm and cosy room, good hot shower, white fluffy towels, nice to have tea and coffee. Everything we needed after a long day walking in the rain. A little hard to find the entrance to the car park as googlemaps takes you to the high street but actually you have to go down a narrow lane at the back and even then it’s very easy to miss the narrow entrance. So maybe some directions in the booking details would be good.
- linda n Julian (8/5): Warm, cosy welcoming - Hosts were friendly, helpful and kind. Warm and cosy room, clean smart. Lots of towels. TV. Tea not coffee making area. Hanging space. I have an arthritic knee so going up wet, metal steps to room was tricky. Just be aware when booking g as there are rooms downstairs
- Oxburgh (3/5): Disappointing - The towels were nice. The shower head had mould on it. There was no WiFi. No bedside lamps, only one overhead light. The bathroom fan didn’t work well enough to clear the room of condensation.
- Candida Doody (8/5): - Great location. My room was quiet, but it opened onto the pub garden so would have been noisy at busy times.
- Moira (10/5): -
- Moira (10/5): - Everything Nothing negative
- Lesley (9/5): Comfortable pub stay in a lovely old town - Lovely old pub in great location. Comfortable quiet room.
- Andrew (9/5): Comfy room for a short stay - The staff were very helpful in finding a secure place for my bike. The room met my expectations, and I had a quiet night's sleep. Although the lack of a breakfast option was inconvenient, there were enough cafe options within a couple of minutes' walk for this not to be a problem during my stay.
- Ronnie (7/5): - Good location, teas and coffees in the room, it was separate from the bar so you didn't have to go through the bar to leave, it was clean and spacious enough for me. Staff were friendly. The walls must be paper thin as I could hear the next room's TV through the evening and hear their phone conversations which is not ideal.
- bałakława (10/5): Great place to stay - Everything is fine. Lovely local pub. Very nice and pleasure staff. Nice place to stay.
- bałakława (10/5): Great place to stay. - Great place to stay. Lovely local pub. Very nice and helpful staff.
- Ashlee (9/5): -
- Peter (10/5): Great stay - Beds where very comfy
Lady who took us to our room was great The room size was a bit cramped but nothing too major
- M (9/5): Just what I needed. - Quiet, clean, lovely comfortable bed, cosy too. Hotel on the High Street and parking round back of hotel in Horse fair Lane, ideal. Lovely old buildings in Cricklade. Interesting visit.
- Stephen (9/5): Good value stop on Thames Path - Good stop off point for Thames Path walk. Places nearby for breakfast. Nothing.
- David (7/5): Straight forward place to stay. - It was excellent value for money. The was was a decent size and had all the amenities you would need for a stay. There was no sofa or chair in the room and it is very much somewhere you sleep and leave your stuff. Good straight forward place to stay. It is not a negative, but more a heads up for those wishing to say. The place does not do food.
- Abigail (9/5): - Lovely spacious room in a great location, above a friendly pub with lots of good places to eat nearby.
- Colin (10/5): A short but good stay - The room was clean and comfortable
- Elizabeth (10/5): Fab time - Really friendly staff, we got checked in really quickly and were shown to our room. Room was clean and had everything we needed. Overall a lovely stay. Parking on sight was a bonus too.
- Stephen (9/5): Perfect Position on the Path - The room was in what appeared to be a converted stable at the back of the pub. I guess in warmer weather the beer garden could've been a bit noisy, but this was a peaceful, self-contained unit that was a perfect spot to break up our Thames walk. No complaints
- Saskia (3/5): - De kamer was veel kleiner dan werd voorgesteld en er zat geen raam in, al met al heel erg benauwend. Ik raad deze niet aan.
- Gail (7/5): Comfy clean accommodation. Good value - Clean comfortable room, nicely decorated. Very friendly crowd in the pub. Central location on the high street.
Comfy beds, immaculate bathroom.
Quiet night. Didn't like the flashing lights in the courtyard which kept me awake. It would also have been nice if we could have got breakfast there instead of having to go into the town.
- Kim (9/5): Clean, comfortable, and convenient - Lovely little room behind a pub, with private parking directly outside. It was small, but clean and comfortable, and ideal for a stop off while driving south, with easy access from the A419. While the area was quiet, and anyone leaving the pub was respectful of that, the rooms had no sound insulation. I could hear the conversation of the people next door clearly, and also the snoring!
- martin (4/5): No usuable kettle due amount of limescale in when asked for a replacement not one available didn’t even get offered a te - Property was fine No usable kettle
- Jan (10/5): Great overnight stay, everything we needed. - Easy access, Good size room, comfy bed. Great shower cubicle. Lovely quality towels supplied. All the tea and coffee making supplies provided. Quiet at night. We rang to check about booking-in times as we were attending a wedding with a schedule, and the hotel was very accommodating. Nice and clean and everything working, would stay again, would recommend. The fan attched to light in the shower room/toilet stays on for about half an hour its quite noisy. Teeny tiny mention that although there is a key drop box, the notice in the room suggests leaving the key inside. The WiFi code on the mirror ( most prominent) was superceded by another on a notice. As I say nothing we couldn't overcome but why?
- Paula (7/5): Great for a place to rest your head. - It was perfectly located for the Thames walk. We got a taxi to the source and walked back to Cricklade- hence two night here. It was very reasonably priced and you get what you pay for. Bedroom was massive as a triple, but was very basic. Mattresses need replacing though.
- Thomas (6/5): -
- Enzo (7/5): -
- Dave (9/5): Nice and comfortable - Great location for us, comfortable room and good parking at a very reasonable price.
- McLoughlin (8/5): -
- Shirley (6/5): Ok for a short 1 night stay. - Good location. They opened at 4pm so no option to drop off your bags if you arrived early.
- Sue (6/5): The local area was nice and car parking was good . Local area has plenty of choice for eating out . Convenient to shops - Room was clean . Plenty of tea/coffee /biscuits
Toiletries
Parking was good No hooks to hang towels on
No table lamp
Very noisy until very late, early hours ( Saturday)
No ventilation in room and didn’t feel safe opening the large window at night as at ground level . A top opening window would be helpful . Thought the charge for two dogs was excessive as one tiny room to clean .
- Samuel (9/5): - Private, clean, good value, staff sound
- Belinda (2/5): Good location but very noisy - Good location It was VERY noisy. The room was over the bar and next to the outside drinking area. I could hear every word said. I have stayed in many very welcoming pubs and never been right over the bar , it was awful and I was unable to even attempt to get any sleep until after 11pm when I had to be up at 5.30am to get to my 12 hour shift
Heavy rain had washed a lot of slippery moss on to the metal external staircase to get to the room which was dangerous
Unable to park in the small car park
No food offering
- Roger (10/5): -
- Janet (8/5): A very welcome spot! - After a long walk along the Thames Path, the check-in was easy and the room comfortable. We got wahat we paid for and were very satisfied.
- Simon (7/5): - Location good, room large. A bit scruffy.
- andy (8/5): -
- Scilla (7/5): Great - Friendly and helpful staff nice clean and spacious rooms Nothing
- Murphy (10/5): -
- Nicholas (4/5): -
- ALESSIO D'AGOSTIN (7/5): - Camera pulita; pet friendly Il bollitore dell'acqua è da sostituire e anche il materasso del letto
- alan (8/5): - Really nice clean room and nice bar Room was above the bar area so abit noisy when trying to sleep
Before closing time
- bałakława (8/5): Nice place to stay. - Excellent location, lovely staff. Very good restaurants around. Thames Path if you like to walk. Nice place and village to stay. Wi-Fi. It's really poor in room 4 and one next to it. If the landlord can do something with that, it would be great.
- Tommy (8/5): -
- Peter (7/5): - Clean room, friendly welcome, reasonable price
