Guest Reviews
- Derek (10/5): Great hotel in the heart of Montignac - Lovely hotel with good quality restaurant in the heart of Montignac. Only problem was WiFi not strong enough to reach room 8 in main building
- David (8/5): - Pas de wifi dans chambre
- Ian (10/5): Great stay - We stayed one night on our way to a business meeting nearby the following afternoon, so had plenty of time to enjoy the hotel. The staff were very pleasant and although the hotel is in the centre of town the gardens are very large and peaceful.
- Sandy (10/5): Just awesome. - A guiet french paradise in the astonishing french countryside. The village and accommodations are simply perfect!
- Michael (8/5): Great location - This hotel is in great location in centre Montignac, only 30 minute walk to Lascaux II. Room was clean & comfortable, but bolsters really?!
Restaurant was good but breakfast @12€ a bit steep
- Jeffrey (10/5): We loved staying here! Recommended! - Fantastic! We loved this place, we loved the swimming pool, we loved the town so much, easy to walk from the hotel to everything, incredibly scenic and cute and beautiful. The Lascaux museum was an easy walk, but we also tried to walk to the Lascaux II cave tour, which was a much longer walk, and it was a bit confusing to realize that we should actually have taken our car for Lascaux II (a quite different location from Lascaux museum, but on the same road). Loved the local river, bakery, etc, etc. One of the best nights of our trip. The hotel itself wasn't SO special, but totally fine and nice, free parking, lovely pool, and the town is great. Recommended!!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very nice hotel in the Dordognes - This was our second stay here as we enjoyed the location and the free parking last time we were here.
- Monique (8/5): Hôtel très bien situé - Hôtel accueillant, très calme côté piscine. Personnel souriant serviable. A recommander.
- Verified traveler (10/5): great location and nice swimming pool - we stayed here for two nights and we enjoyed the very central location and enclosed swimming pool. the parking was also great as we had a rental car.
- Foggy (6/5): Assez bien, pourrait mieux faire.
- suse (8/5): Very pleasant hotel - Central for the Lascaux experience, river and village
- David (8/5): Spot on - The hotel was clean, tidy. Staff where all freindly & helpfull.
Great location with restaurant & bar downstairs.
- Adriaan (8/5): hotel in centre - Location perfect in city centre of Motignac, also lot off nice things to do in area, canoe, grottes and so on
- Malcolm (8/5): Good base in Montignac - Good pool and comfortable room
- Brian (6/5): - This hotel needs to be renovated.
- Doug (8/5): Good location for exploring mans prehistory - Booked in for 3 days in late May to explore the area and it's roots in pre-history. Great little town with many good restaurants nearby. The property is very nice with a pool and a large park setting in the back. Loved the bar service poolside.
We stayed in the main hotel and the only issue was with air circulation. The room was quite warm and it took some time to cool off with the window wide open. could use a fan to help move air in the room. The new hotel block appears to have air conditioning but I can't confirm. Just surmising based on the widows could not open.
- James (10/5): Relaxing Inn in Montignac - Great location, lots of good cafes along the river. Easy walking distance to the Lascaux centre, definately worth a vist.Very good breakfast buffet. The room could use a bit of an update but everything works and the bed was very comfortable. Would love to go back for a little longer stay.
- traveller (10/5): Lovely! - Beautiful town, and the hotel is situated right in the heart of town, by shops, cafes and a beautiful river walk. Only 900 meters to the new Lascaux 4 exhibit. The Staff is welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Good on-site parking, lovely pool and grounds. Clean rooms, comfy beds.
Will stay here again!
- Erin (6/5): - Really enjoyed our stay here. The outdoor pool/patio was very charming and the room was comfortable - nothing fancy but that was to be expected. Location, free wifi and parking made it a great value overall.
- Deborah (8/5): Super hotel - very comfortable hotel, the pool was wonderful, and very welcome after a hot day out cycling. The staff found a room for us to store our bikes safely. The hotel is very nice, although the room sizes are a bit small. The location and pool made up for this.
- Angela (6/5): Convenient Location but needs updating - Parking is easily accessible and located directly behind the hotel. The pool was very nice and well maintained. Upon checkin, the young man managing the desk at night was a bit rude. We were not offered help to bring our luggage in and had a room on the third floor with no elevator. The building smelled very musty. Our room was large with a separate room for the bath. It was clean but in serious need of remodel. It was very dated and peeling wallpaper. There is a restaurant on site but only 3 people were eating there when we took a look at the menu. Again met with rudeness from the young man so we opted to walk around and eat at a restaurant across the street. In the morning, when checking out, the staff were very pleasant and helpful. It is conveniently located to the Lascaux II cave but would not recommend staying here.
- Trevor (8/5): 1 night - Great hotel just wish french hotels would put team and coffee facilities in the rooms.
- Debra (6/5): A Reasonably maintained hotel - This hotel has a wonderfully welcoming staff, but no air-conditioning. We were there on a very hot night, and had the outside air not cooled about midway through the night, it would have been one with little comfortable sleep.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Well located hotel within Montignac in walking distance of shops and restaurants. Good basis for sightseeing in the area. large pool and wonderful garden. Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Jen (8/5): Charming hotel - The hotel is a charming 17th century historical archituecture. It is clean, spacious and offers everything. The rooms include: wifi, tv, minifridge, private bathroom with greek style shower. On the spot is a restaurant for breakfast, lunch amd dinner, outdoor pool, billiard pool and parking. The staff is very friendly.
- Daniel (10/5): Great place to stay - Excellent place, very nice people
Breakfast was great
Great location right in the city next to eveything
- Verified traveler (8/5): Traditional hotel - Traditional hotel with lovely outdoor sitting area and pool.
- Ken (10/5): A classic hotel with wonderful grounds - This hotel has been around for many years, but has wonderful grounds just a mile or so from Lascaux, the prehistoric cave site. The room was very large with a great bed and bathroom, but the table and the chifforobe in the room were getting on in years. The hotel building is getting old and in a few years is going to need some renovation. The receptionists were absolutely wonderful, helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was good, but a bit expensive. The hotel had two restaurants, a fancy one and a moderate one. But the most striking thing about the hotel was the back grounds. I walked around the pool and strolled the footpaths enjoying the back yard greatly. There is a private car park that you get into with a passcode. This is very helpful as parking on the streets is problematic.
- anne (8/5): Great location in centre of town. Nice pool - Uneventful. Comfortable and ok hotel, with lovely pool and garden.
- Traveller (6/5): Very basic room - The hotel is in a beautiful setting with superb grounds and downstairs rooms and dining facilities that were excellent. Then the shock of the bedroom! The bed was uncomfortable and on a massive slope. The room had no air conditioning despite being advertised has having it. The furniture was so basic as to be non existent. A wardrobe where the door couldn't be opened, a desk that was a very crude kitchen table and a chair. The room was too small to be really considered a double. The bathroom had been redone and was of a reasonable standard. Overall not what was expected or advertised. A great shame as the rest of the hotel was superb.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Oasis in the middle of Montignac - The Relais du Soleil d Or is on the main street of Montignac and like many older buildings in France the exterior is somewhat bland, but enter the doors into a garden paradise. Our room was very large, very comfortable and opened onto the street which proved to be an absolute delight because a festival was taking place in the street below. There is ample parking in the rear of the hotel. The gardens and pool are delightful. A great place to stay in the Dordogne.
- Verified traveler (8/5): nice hotel - good pool.
nice location in the middle of town with good size car park
- Bishop (10/5): Excellent hotel in a great location - Hotel was excellent with a super swimming pool. Montignac is a very interesting small town with very good restaurants overlooking the river. Also a great place to go to see the Lascaux caves and old troglodite dwellings.
