Guest Reviews
- Don (10/5): - Just perfect, will definitely stay again when in the area.
- Holly (10/5): Stay here! - We had a really warm welcome from Alex who looked after our every need. The cottage was very comfortable and breakfast was terrific. We highly recommend this B&B!
- Mark (10/5): - The host is very friendly and made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. The accommodation is spacious with a separate bedroom and living room. In the morning, full English breakfast is served. There is a lovely pub nearby and there are good walks around the nearby lakes. All in all, great location and good value for money.
- Michelle (6/5): - Not quite as it appears in the photos! Large space but a bit "dusty". Definitely a bit misleading. The host is VERY nice and friendly. Communication was great! The full English breakfast was a lot of food!! The village was cute and the local pub was awesome.
- Darren (10/5): - Great stay Host very friendly. Nice and quiet good breakfast and the pub in the local village also does good food.
- Karen (10/5): Perfect! - Just got back from a two night stay at this very comfy cottage. Everything was there that was needed. Bed was really comfy and we really felt at home. Alex was so friendly and helpful. We had a delicious breakfast brought to us each morning which was just perfect. We would definately return and recommend to friends. Thanks for a great stay!
- Howard (10/5): - Would have stayed longer if we could have.
- Roy (10/5): - Extremely pleasant and hospitable host. Local pub within 5 minutes walking distance was very friendly serving very good food reasonably priced.
Strongly recommend and would like to return to see more of the area.
- Derek (8/5): - Alex, the host, was extremely pleasant and helpful & we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Whilst some areas perhaps required updating, we had everything we needed, it was very comfortable and it was great to have a separate lounge area with TVs in the lounge & bedroom.
- Valerie (10/5): Excellent. - 2nd stay at this property. So comfy, clean and lots of thought has gone into the needs of the guests. Breakfast was hot and tasty, delivered to your door at a time pre arranged. 2 minutes walk to local pub that serves delicious food. Definitely would recommend.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Pleasant host, poor standard room - Upon arriving we met the owner who was very friendly and welcoming. On first glance the room seemed ok. But further inspection revealed to be a tired mismatched room. The path to the room was unkept and messy. The bed yet comfortable was mismatched bedding not the crisp white one colour bedding you would expect. The pillow cases didn’t match the sheets or the quilt cover. In the kitchen dinette was well equipped with a kettle toaster microwave and plates and cutlery for microwave or takeaway food. Unfortunately in the fridge stored open and used bottles and jars of sauce jam honey. In the cupboard was a Tupperware of some sort of cereal. Non of this should have been left in the room. There was a glass jar of biscuits that anyone could have had their hands on. Nothing was sealed new or fresh for use, like single serving jam and honey as I would not like to use an open jar not knowing how long it had been opened and used. In the bathroom the theme was the same bottle of soap already having been used and not refilled. Shampoo and things I didn’t bother checking was there too. The towels seemed ancient in design two brown patterned bath towels and a blue hand towel. A dirty toilet brush with tissue paper on it. I didn’t even want to use the shower and couldn’t wait to get home to wash my clothes and myself. The room was dusty too. The breakfast was bought to you which was sausage bacon poached sloppy egg but hard yolk and bullet beans and hard toast. Invest in single sealed use
- christopher (10/5): A quiet oasis - I was staying in the area for 3 days with work. I was considering a chain hotel but saw this on Hotels.com. It was reasonably priced and close to where I was working.
I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived.
It was a lovely little self contained cottage whee I could finish work and shut myself away from the world.
There was a microwave and kettle although no oven or hob but there is a decent pub a few yards down the road for food.
A lovely quiet oasis in a busy, frantic world
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly owner who is very helpful.
- Matt (10/5): - Great experience very homely and relaxing and we'll looked after hidden gem
- Amandip (10/5): - Beautiful little property. Service was amazing, breakfast was delicious. Only disappointed in the pub being closed on a Monday, but other than that it was a perfect place!
- Kathryn (10/5): Comfortable accomodation - Nice little apartment with everything you need for a short stay. Quiet village location. Clean and comfortable with good quality breakfast delivered to room. Friendly and helpful host. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
- Paul (8/5): - Spacious and well kept, breakfast included and great value compared to hotels around area.
- Jackie (10/5): - Everything was great. Lovely linens, nice large towels in the bathroom, easy to park outside. Good to have your own front door. The kitchenette had tea and coffee, a microwave and a fridge - perfect for our needs. Alex delivered the breakfast to the door and it was delicious. He was a fabulous host and is doing a wonderful job. I would definitely recommend. Well worthy of the numerous 5 star reviews.
- Elliott (8/5): Friendly, cosy and cute. - We had a lovely stay.
Alex was very accommodating, friendly and went out of his way to be helpful!
It was lovely to have a cooked breakfast too!!
- Richard (8/5): - A lovely stay. Most enjoyable. Loved it being self contained.
- David (10/5): - Great location for a business meeting the following day. Comfortable, clean and friendly welcome.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Comfortable. But details need attention. The loo seat needed holding up whether you sat or stood. Breakfast provision was very very disappointing (but no price reduction!) - what is the point of a toaster if there is no crockery - no plates, no bowls. We stayed three nights - we could only face the provided cereals twice.
But we were warm, and the bed was comfortable.
- Diane (10/5): short break - We had a very enjoyable stay and Alex is an exceptional host ensuring our stay was trouble free. Great accommodation with little extras provided including cookies, coffee machine and fridge along with a fantastic cooked to order breakfast make this B&B stand out from other accommodation . We will definitely return. There is also a local Pub less than 5 minutes walk away that provides evening meals.
- Lewis (10/5): Absolutely Fantastic - I have stayed here on a number of occasions and every time it is fantastic. It is a home from home, and the breakfasts are amazing!
- Nigel (10/5): Thorn House Stay - This is a gem of a place with good comfort and quiet rooms. Breakfast was excellent with every care taken to make sure you are well catered for. Would highly recommend Thorn House.
- James (10/5): Comfort in Fenland - Stayed for two days before Christmas. A very comfortable and thoughtfully equipped lodge by the most helpfullownerAlexander who served excellent breakfasts cooked to order each morning. Well situated for visiting Cambridge, leaving the car at nearby Swavesey then using guided bus.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was great to have a separate sitting and dining area with basic kitchen facilities. Unfortunately the mattress was a bit too soft and the quilt a little too warm so we didn't have a very good night's sleep. There was an interesting choice of menu for breakfast and it was delicious. Alexander was an excellent host and very kindly let us check out late.
- Valerie (10/5): A little Gem - A little gem. Tasty breakfast delivered to your door. Fabulous welcome too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We were running late, due to heavy traffic, so phoned B&B to ask if later check-in was possible. Alexander told us not to worry, and told us the key code for the key safe box, so we were able to let ourselves in. This meant we were able to relax and enjoy our evening meeting up with friends, without having to go to B&B first.Although it was after 10pm when we arrived, we were still able to choose our breakfast option for the morning, and appreciated the convenience of having it delivered to our door at the time we had requested.
- Kevin (10/5): Nice quiet B&B accommodation. - We arrived quite late but Alexander took the time to show us the accommodation and explain how things worked. He also explained about the breakfast options that were on offer. We said that we didn't eat meat, so the sausages were off for us, but he was able to offer vegetarian sausages too. He left us to decide on breakfast and to let him know what we would like. The house is in a very quiet road in the village so there was absolutely no disturbance at all. The accommodation was very comfortable and offered everything which we needed.
- Alexander (10/5): A great B&B with superb hospitality - Clean, warm and welcoming!
- Katie (10/5): Lots of special touches - A beautiful, cosy, self contained apartment. Thank you for the yummy breakfast (brought to the door) and the barrel of biscuits! Alexander was a really friendly and attentive host. The bed was super comfortable. I really enjoyed my stay here and will definitely be back!
- stacey (10/5): - A surprisingly roomy apartment. Very clean and comfortable. Very good breakfast! Don’t often make recommendations but would highly recommend this one. Very personal touches and service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great breakfast. Quiet. Took a while to figure out the shower.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Repeat business! - Second time staying here, lovely spacious accommodation and freshly made breakfast.
- Hsiu mei (10/5): - We had a wonderful and pleasant stay, comfortable bed and a nice separate seating area, super delicious breakfast.
- Heather (10/5): - A really enjoyable stay. Ideal for visiting Cambridge.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cosy, quiet and calm - Lovely quiet area, just what we'd hoped for, but within easy striking distance of Cambridge.
Room was lovely, clean and cosy.
Hearty and filling breakfast delivered to the door with a smile.
Couldn't have wished for more.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very pleasant stay here. Room was spacious and had a lot of amenities. Was particularly impressed with the selection of films on offer to watch and the generous size of the breakfast. Would happily stay here again.
- razorback (8/5): Interesting little flat - Stayed here a few times now when in area on business. Does well as a self-contained flat that the owner has added a breakfast-to-the-door service.
Wonderful fresh orange juice and coffee in the morning (especially if you like strong coffee to get you started). Always clean and spotless.
- David (10/5): Great service. - Great little B and B in the country side. Terrific service, very helpful. Not too far from a town with several pubs for food and drink. Birds get very active around 4 to 5 am so be prepared!!!
- William (10/5): - Arrived about 5.30pm Nici was waiting and greeted us. Show us to our room and recommended the local pub which gave a 10% discount to visitors to Thorn House This stay was so good we must find another reason to return, not like this visit which was to a friend funeral.
Lovely, spotless, cheerful stay with a brilliant hostess. Also a pretty village which deserves a walk around it. All very very friendly, made you feel comfortable. After the pub meal and my breakfast I need to go on a diet !!
- Olwen (10/5): Just lovely. - Lovely comfortable accommodation set in a picturesque village. We were greeted by Lesley a friend of the owner. She was looking after the guests whilst the owner Nicky was away for a couple of days.We stayed for three nights, the room was large and extremely comfortable. There was a well stocked tray of refreshments and biscuits, complimentary toiletries a huge television and a truly sumptuous bed.Lesley was delightful, very kind and thoughtful with a lovely sense of humour and thankfully an excellent cook. The breakfast was splendid,a good range of cereals, yogurt and fresh fruit washed down with orange juice, tea or coffee. The full cooked breakfast was made with quality products cooked to perfection.Nicky came back on our third evening and introduced herself to us and asked if we were enjoying our stay.We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thorn House and would certainly recommend 5*.
- look no further (10/5): hard to beat this one - best B & B
- Caroline (10/5): Wonderful accommodation - Thorn House was a lovely place to stay at. Nicky couldn't do enough to help us and make our stay a good one. The accommodation was clean and was to a high standard, everything was explained to us and we were given a voucher for the local pub. We visited the three tuns pub which was lovely and really good food. I would recommend staying here if you would like a quiet place to stay but still close enough to go to Cambridge City Centre.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quality B & B - Lovely room and excellent service. Highly recommended. Also lovely personalised breakfast.
- tom and val (10/5): Will come again - Was a wonderful stay for my wife and me. If near Cambridge you must stay here. the breakfast was to die for.. Excellent that is :-). And the owner was amazing - helpful, friendly, and the room was beautiful and clean. Hope to return in a few years!
- GBW (10/5): Welcoming & comfortable - Small walk-able village, convenient to Cambridge. Welcomed on arrival, lovely room, nice view of quiet street. Comfortable beds. Good food, full English breakfast plus cereal; gluten-free options on request. Had a wonderful & relaxing experience.
- Mel (10/5): Lovely B&B - Lovely B&B great breakfast and lovely staff. The pub just up the road is fantastic and I would visit just to go back there for dinner.
- Jonathan (10/5): Clean, pleasant and spacious b & b - I was made to very welcome and given a gratis room upgrade in this very nice b & b. There was free wifi, a nice assortment of toiletries and a very comfy bed. The breakfast was ample and tasty with fresh fruit and yoghurt. All for a very reasonable price. I would recommend this establishment to anyone!
- Carmel (10/5): Perfect spot for an overnight stay near Cambridge - Lovely little B&B, very hospitable and breakfast was nice. Would definitely stop again when in the area.
- Robert (10/5): Home from home - Fantastic hosts had car trouble wend above and beyond. Would recommend and will stay again a proper home from home
- Martina (10/5): Fantastic and good value for the money - Nice and quite neighbourhood, easy Access to A14 Highway,
Service was excellent, breakfast very good, if you wish you get English breakfast in Addition, very convenient as a guest, nice and cosy interior
- Alison (10/5): Overwhelmingly fantastic! - The hospitality and accommodation at Thorn House was outstanding! The owner was away, but Lesley could not have been more helpful, going way beyond what was expected to give us the perfect stay. And she cooked an amazing breakfast. Stay there if you can.
- Darren (8/5): Nice B&B in a quaint traditional English village - The B&B is located in a lovely and peaceful English country village in the heart of Cambridgeshire with plenty of thatched cottages and a great pub called the Three Tuns. The B&B was quaint and very clean, but there is a shared bathroom and the bedroom size was a bit on the small size. Luckily, I was the only guest on the floor, so I had the bathroom all to myself. The shower was small and I kept on hitting the water tap with my arm when showering and thus turning off the water. The wireless signal kept on dipping in and out from the bedroom, so could not really use the Internet on my phone or on my business laptop. Breakfast was nice, but not the best I have had in a B&B or hotel. The owner was very friendly and accommodating though and made sure my stay was very pleasant. The B&B is good for an overnight business trip, but I would not recommend it for a longer stay or a family holiday.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic & great value for money - Fantastic stay at this lovely B&B. Nicky the owner was friendly and professional from start to finish. The room was lovely and beautifully clean with a private bathroom just across the hall. The breakfast was amazing as well. Location is great too just off the A14 and we found it really easily following the sat nav.
