- Ladyivy1 (10/5): Wow!!! - Words might just fail me to truly express how much we adored this place! This is our first time staying at a Ritz and we were completely blown away. The kindness of the staff and eagerness to assist us with any questions is unmatched. There are so many smiling faces greeting you when you return each evening. I enjoyed the pool and sauna. The rooms are well equipped with everything you could possibly need or may have forgotten, the bed is so comfortable! We had a delicious dinner our first night at Mizuki. The breakfast is outstanding too! Roberto and Emma were awesome! Truly thank you for such an incredible and memorable stay! We hope to return to Kyoto and no doubt would love to stay here again!!

- A291VFjennm (10/5): Incomparable Kyoto experience! - We had the most amazing experience at this beautiful, quiet and extremely Zen hotel. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating and SWEET! When the kiosk that sold French macarons was closed and I had missed them for the day, a woman on the staff named Emma had some hand delivered to my room! Also a woman on the staff named Morae was probably one of the kindest people I have ever met! She made us feel as though we were the only couple staying in the hotel! Kyoto is such a magical beautiful city. We were also able to walk to the main shops very easily within 15 minutes. Cannot recommend this hotel enough!

But the lobby is beautiful and while the rooms are not like an American Ritz Carlton they are functional and fine. The service is perfection personified and breakfast something special. The location is within walking distance of super areas and we were made to feel very welcome. I would stay here again.

Our expectations were greatly exceeded. The room was wonderful, the restaurants top notch. We were greeted by the Rooms Division Manager, Masaya Tanaka, who proved to be the most outstanding feature of the hotel. Through the attention of Tanaka-san and his well trained and attentive staff, we felt as if we had a new immediate family! Highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is truly a one of a kind experience - the location is walkable to so much of Kyoto and perfectly picturesque. Attentive Service & Orientation: The staff member who conducted the room orientation was exceptionally thorough, taking the time to explain every amenity and hotel service to ensure a comfortable and well-informed stay. Refined Atmosphere and Room layout: The hotel’s decor and surrounding grounds are the definition of elegance. The lobbies and public spaces provide a sophisticated, tranquil atmosphere that perfectly complements the beauty of Kyoto. The room offered picturesque and tranquil views of the river, providing a serene backdrop for the stay, with a tiny bonzai tree. The room's layout was highly optimized for space and function, making it easy to navigate and live in. The surroundings were exceptionally quiet, ensuring a restful and uninterrupted experience. Thoughtful Local Touches: The room was stocked with charming, high-quality Japanese goodies, fruit plate, including a room cardholder made of silk, soaps and postcards that highlighted Kyoto’s local culture. These curated details added a unique and memorable touch to the experience. Impeccable Housekeeping: The standard of cleanliness was world-class. The room was kept spotless throughout the stay, reflecting a high level of attention to detail and care by the housekeeping team. Exquisite Dining: Both the multi-course Kaiseki dinner at Kaiseki Mizuki and the Japanese breakfast bento option we selected that came with a buffet pastry and juice/coffee bar were highlights of the trip. The presentation was artistic, the ingredients were of the highest quality, although for dinner it could use more creative elements for the price ¥22,000+ per person (a comparison to the 20+ Kaiseki experiences at the onsen ryokans we have had previously) and the restaurant service at both restaurants was consistently superb. One note about Spa facilities - For those accustomed to classic Japanese hot springs, while this is common for international hotel spas to require wearing swimsuits, it differs from the traditional Japanese onsen experience which we prefer. Therefore, we only used the bath in the room, which was equally enjoyable. Another note, yukata were provided in the room but not permitted at the dining areas, which we accustomed to wear in the onsen ryokans. It would have been more comfortable wearing yukatas at dinner and breakfast. Also, pajamas were not provided in the room but were available upon request. These are the tiny details that would have enhanced our stay but they are minor. Overall, we enjoyed very much of this stay and we would love to return to Ritz-Carlton Kyoto again soon hopefully!
- dantereyes (10/5): Consistent Personal Service from Start to finish! - We stayed at The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto and the service was outstanding from start to finish. The hotel is calm and beautiful, and the location is perfect for Gion. You are close to everything, but once you step inside it feels quiet and removed from the crowds. What impressed me most was the consistency. Staff remembered our names and greeted us warmly every time. It did not feel scripted. It felt like the team actually cared and paid attention. Concierge and front desk were a huge help with restaurant reservations, timing, and car service. They made the logistics easy, which matters a lot in a city like Kyoto. We did run into an unfortunate issue tied to our reservation at Gion Nishikawa, and Fujita handled it exceptionally well. He listened, took ownership, and followed through quickly and professionally. That support changed the tone of the situation completely. We also had a great spa experience. Very welcoming and genuinely relaxing. The send off was a highlight. We returned to our room to a bottle of sake and handwritten notes from the concierge A team, Asuna, Tepperi, Nama, and Kanko. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare, and we appreciated it. I would absolutely stay here again and would recommend it without hesitation.

- Josephliyen (10/5): Heavenly experience - I have stayed at 5 ritz carltons so far, and for a long time, ritz maldives was the top spot for me. I mean, who can challenge their heavenly backdrop and the amazing suites bestowed upon my family during our stay? Well, ritz kyoto certainly did with not just their facinating facility, but much more importantly, their gracious ladies and gentlemen. Prior to arriving, the concierge team worked tirelessly booking us a few michelin starred restaurants, and gave us many great recommendations. I knew this hotel itself is quite special, and booked an onsite art tour and a guided bike tour around gion as some of the complimentary activities Ritz Kyoto offer. Starting at the check in, I loved the sit down, much more personal and relaxed setting. Marin brought me some tea and snacks to start the check in process, then walked me up and introduced me to an upgraded kamogawa view room. Her professionalism, along with her warmth and friendliness, really showcased the soft touch of ritz carlton kyoto. The room is a treat in itself. A very large room by Japanese standard, it featured a full stone bathtub and beautiful washroom, of course accompanied by the highest end toto wash washlet. The sencha served in the room, along with a few different tea snacks, enabled me to sit by the window to unwind from a long shinkansen ride from shigoku earlier that day, while absorbing the serene sense of the kamogawa. Our bike tour started early in the mornign at 6:30. Our host is Gabriel from the Phillipines whom has a tremendous passion for Japan. His knowledge of both the bike and art tours were impeccable. His attentiveness during our bike tour, where he automatically stops for us anticipating good photo spots, and moved my bike for me just to make sure it was convient for me, nonetheless demonstrated ritz carlton's legendary hospitality. I felt he exhibited Japanese's amazing attentiveness to service, and truly appreciated his attention to us as guests. Finally, the breakfast is very well prepared at this Ritz-Carlton. It may not have the biggest number of dishes selection, but between the western and Japanese offerings their quality and taste certainly is top notch. I very much enjoyed their signature eggs benedict which featured a thick slice, but not overly fatty bacon.
- CantonGaBill (4/5): Very Disappointing Experience! - We were really looking forward to our stay at the Ritz Carlton Kyoto, but the experience was very disappointing. Having arrived after a wonderful stay at the new Waldorf Astoria Osaka, this hotel did not compare favorably. First and foremost, the service was distant and basically MIA for our two nights there. Unlike all other experiences at our hotels in Japan, the Ritz almost seemed intentional in their lack of attention and coldness from the staff. Even as Bonvoy Platinum Elite members, there was little to no acknowledgment of status, and honestly, no one seemed to care. The rooms and facilities are okay but could use updating at a minimum. Our worst experiences were at breakfast where the staff barely took time to seat you. The wait staff, on both mornings, only showed up to take our order and never checked back to refill coffee or inquire about the meal. On the second day, I also never returned my breakfast and eggs and could not get anyone to stop by our table to ask about the order! This was NOT up to the Ritz Carlton standards, and the team here is in obvious need of training or at least introduced to typical Japanese hospitality customs that prevail at much more affordable properties. Please avoid the Ritz in Kyoto

The property itself is stunning — elegant, peaceful, and beautifully designed to reflect the charm of Kyoto. The service was above and beyond, as always with Ritz-Carlton, but what truly made this stay special were a few incredible people who went out of their way to make our visit memorable. Lorenzo checked us in and personally escorted us to our room. He was so warm and welcoming, taking the time to get to know us. To our surprise, he arranged a distillery tour after learning about our interest in whiskey — such a thoughtful and personal touch that we’ll never forget. It was hard saying goodbye to him. We also loved the complimentary cycling tour with Berenise. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the experience so much fun that we immediately booked a second tour with her! Every detail of our stay was exceptional. We left feeling completely cared for and already can’t wait to return.

Starting a couple weeks before our stay the concierge diligently worked with me on booking activities, making reservations and a babysitter arrangement. The service was truly five-star -- attentive, nice and pleasant. The activities were the best part. - cbB9474FQ (10/5): Ritz Kyoto Incredible Customer Service Experience. Ritz Tokyo - Not so much - We visited Ritz Carlton Kyoto in the first 2 weeks of September, 2025. Staff make the experience even more special. They are incredibly attentive and responsive (from the front counter folks, to housekeeping. House keeping realized I didn't use the complimentary slippers(because they were way to small for me) and must have seen my other shoes - when I returned next evening - they had put out larger size!! Just a small example. Rooms were not particularly lavish, but very nice and had a nice relaxing feel to them Everyone greets you and asks if you need assistance - ALWAYS!!. Property itself is serene and peaceful, with tasteful cultural overtones. Even the fitness room is chill. Heads and shoulders ABOVE RC Tokyo!! Those rooms seemed like regular "OK" American hotel rooms. Staff is pretty formal, westernised and not particularly welcomimg (hardly anyone said a word as we left or returned). Beautiful foyer though - No real Japanese flavor to it at all - Why stay in a so so American hotel when you are visiting a Country with such incredible culture and beauty? - not for that money. Highly recomend Ritz Kyoto - we will stay there again!! They need to reach out to Tokyo folks and give them hospitality tips.
- cometdebris (6/5): Questionable Restaurant Service - Stayed two nights for a celebration and special attention was always paid to congratulating my wife for her birthday (in room fruit platter left during turn down service and after dinner at Mizuki). However, little attention was paid to my Japanese breakfast reservation which was made 2 months in advance. This was our third stay here and I had previously made reservations for a vegetarian Japanese breakfast with no issues. On our first morning, breakfast arrived and was absolutely perfect. I highly recommend it. On our second morning, they did not acknowledge my reservation, and even when I mentioned it, they still seemed to doubt my claim. About 40 minutes later, breakfast arrived but it was not vegetarian. I mentioned that I had made a reservation well in advance and they said I'd need to wait an additional 40 minutes. By that time we had been there for about an hour and my wife and daughter had already finished their breakfast. We decided to leave as we had to pack for check out. Upon returning to the room, we realized they had also forgot to bring the children's cupcake decorating activity which was also reserved a couple weeks in advance. I explained the situation through the Marriott Bonvoy app messaging system and received a call from the manager at La Loconda. After a long, wordy apology and overly verbose explanation, she said that she would bring the cupcake activity to our room. She asked if we wanted anything else, and I said a glass of milk would be nice. Several minutes later, the cupcake arrived but not the milk. I later received a follow up call from the manager with another wordy description about how they were doing an investigation regarding the matter. She asked if they could bring breakfast to the room and I accepted. Over an hour later, with check out approaching, I called to check on breakfast and was told she thought I didn't want it. No breakfast. I’ve previously experienced minor issues at Ritz-Carlton properties but they were always handled professionally, by limiting unneeded explanations and excuses, by listening attentively (I’d like to emphasize listening), and offering sincere apologies and resolutions. I felt in this case they were trying far too hard to make up for their mistakes, turning a deaf ear to my responses. The lack of attention paid to what I was saying was made especially clear with their unclear responses and disregard to my requests (for both milk and my breakfast). It’s been a month since our stay and I’m still bitter about breakfast. This has always been the highlight of my stays. But besides the cupcake and breakfast issues, the hotel is excellent, especially the special activities available, activities for children, and pool. I would highly recommend it, though I’d pay close attention to any special requests in the restaurants.

Every detail throughout my stay was executed to perfection, a true reflection of why this hotel holds its Forbes 5-star. The Japanese set breakfast was exceptional, both in taste and presentation. We were celebrating a milestone anniversary and they did small meaningful things for us, even though we never asked. Sonya in particular shone through her knowledge of the country, initiative, and attention to detail. Can say the same of many of the staff we dealt with. Makes us want to come back despite the long flight. Garden view room is fantastic. I like the design of the room. When you sit at the table, you sort of feel like you’re on a wood platform in one of their zen gardens. Black out curtains were particularly good because they are designed to go behind this wood frame so no light leaks around the edges of the curtain. Highly recommend their Japanese breakfast!.

The beds were the most comfortable in Japan, the breakfast buffet was great and you could walk from Gion through Pontocho and down the river back to the hotel. Our son had a mild allergic reaction at dinner and when we got back to the hotel, they got us to an urgent care and the concierge called the restaurant and gave us a spread sheet of ingredients.

- JulieTravels1 (10/5): Beautiful hotel and incredible service - We had a fantastic 5-night stay this past June. The hotel is serene and lovely, and the service is impeccable. We had a corner KITA suite and really enjoyed having a view of the river. Hotel is very centrally located, but also not in the touristy hubs that get very, very crowded with tourists. Walking distance to Pontocho Alley and Shinbashi-Dori street/Shirakawa Canal (charming historic district). One story that exemplifies the level of service at this hotel: I booked a van to the train station on our departure day and they didn't have the largest van available, only the second-largest. The concierge mentioned that with four people and four large suitcases, it might be a little bit of a tight fit. I said that was fine (it's less than a 20-min drive to the train station, so we'd survive.) The morning of pickup, we showed up at bell services to find that they'd given us two vans--one for us, and a separate one just for our suitcases-- so that we'd be comfortable. Other highlights: The Bar had a very nice ambiance at night, and a good cocktail menu. Nice breakfast with a large variety of options and very attentive staff. Highly recommended.

We booked the Garden Terrace Suite (1 King, Mountain View), and the moment we stepped into the room, we were blown away. The room was beautifully appointed with every detail thoughtfully designed. From the elegant Japanese aesthetics to the perfectly curated amenities, everything reflected refined comfort. One of our favorite features was the sliding door that opened to the terrace—equipped with a screen, so we could leave it open to enjoy the fresh breeze and the soothing sound of the river. It was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Every staff member made us feel special, but we would especially like to thank Chisa Koyama from Guest Relations, who went above and beyond to assist with our last-minute requests, including arranging an unforgettable kimono experience and much more. A heartfelt thank you to Catherine from Guest Activities, who made our kimono experience so meaningful—this is a memory we will cherish for a lifetime. And to Victoria Ng from the Guest Activities team, who led us on a wonderful complimentary cycling tour. She guided us to beautiful shrines and temples, explained the history behind each place, taught us the proper etiquette—what to do, how to pray inside—and even gave us thoughtful advice on what types of charms or souvenirs to get at each specific shrine. It made the experience so much deeper and more meaningful. The hotel’s location is perfect—right on the riverfront with stunning views and within walking distance to many of Kyoto’s most famous attractions. If you stay here, do not miss the Chef’s Table by Katsuhito Inoue. It’s an extraordinary dining experience where every dish is a masterpiece of flavor and presentation—truly exceptional. Also, the complimentary cycling tour is something you absolutely shouldn’t miss. It’s the most relaxing way to explore Kyoto without the crowds, while learning about the city’s rich culture and history from the knowledgeable Ritz-Carlton team. Our five nights flew by—we didn’t want to leave. We cannot wait to return to this incredibly special place. - world_traveler_ct (10/5): A magical place where Kyoto meets Paris - Stayed at Ritz-Carlton Kyoto with our adult children. We had two rooms: one with river view and another with garden view. Both were fantastic, very well furnished and spotless. Great location, where you can just walk out and stroll along the river. The staff is truly 5 stars! At check in, they had a couple of guests at the counter when we arrived. Rather then asking us to wait, they brought us to a bar/restaurant area, offered drinks, refreshing towels and completed check-in right there and then. This sort of attention to detail continued throughout our stay. The lobby level has an amazing outpost of Pierre Hermé Paris, not something you see every day not just in Japan but even in Europe. All pastries for breakfast were provided by Pierre Hermé and their glazed croissants, among others, were incredible. The only thing better was Pierre Hermé french toast! Overall, the breakfast setup and selection was superb. If you travels bring you to Kyoto, this Ritz-Carlton is not to be missed.

Had dinner at La Locanda and once again, very slow service.

The rooms are spacious, spotless and had every amenity one could wish for in addition to lovely decor. One of the highlights of our stay - the Ritz bicycle tours of Kyoto sights hosted by our very capable and engaging guide Victoria. - AnubhavKaul (4/5): Very disappointing rooms - Having stayed in many luxury hotels around the world and in context of the exorbitant amount we paid for our stay (over ¥300,000 / US$2,100 per room per night for a regular king room : US$8,500 for our 2 night stay for 2 rooms), we are EXTREMELY disappointed. This is the worst room we have stayed in at in any Ritz Carlton, or in fact in any luxury hotel in the world. We booked connected king rooms as we were traveling with our young kids. Unlike the photos advertised on the website and platforms like Trip advisor, our rooms overlooked a graveyard and a multitude of buildings with hundreds of windows looking directly into us vs. the beautiful river view advertised on the website and travel platforms. I have attached photos. It was eerie and absolutely disappointing to have this kind of a view at this kind of a hotel in a beautiful city like Kyoto. Again I want to reiterate, for the price paid, the room was not worth it AT ALL. Moreover given ~50% of rooms in the hotel have this morbid / graveyard view, we felt it was grossly mis sold and mis advertised as there are no photos of this anywhere. When we brought this up with the hotel manager Midori, at first we were told to pay an additional ¥60,000 per room per night to switch to connecting rooms with a river view, then it was suggested we move to a river view room (complementary) but separate from our children who they will not upgrade. Again for a Ritz Carlton and for the amount we had already paid, the service and the way they dealt with this issue was extremely disappointing. We regret picking this hotel. For this amount we could have picked any of the beautiful luxury hotels in Kyoto. I wish we had. This experience at the hotel really ruined our trip to Kyoto. Please check ahead about the room type and view before booking. And be aware that the staff will not be accommodating at all. I do wish to highlight that the concierge was very knowledgeable and helpful.
- JPSprings (10/5): Perfection in Kyoto - The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto was superb in every way. The service we received from the wonderful team, from check-in until we departed, was excellent. The entire staff was perfectly trained for their particular roles. The rooms and hotel facilities were impeccable, spacious, and beautiful. The food at the restaurants, including the glorious breakfast buffet, was sublime. I can’t recommend this magnificent hotel highly enough!
- Cocoadino (10/5): THE BEST Hotel - Hands down by far THE BEST overall hotel I have ever stayed at! The hotel is a nice property with very clean traditional but modern aesthetics. It’s located just a short walk outside of the tourist area along the Kanagawa River, which has a nice walking path to enjoy the outdoors. By far, what elevates the Ritz Kyoto to a whole other level is its customer service and attention to detail. It started with my email correspondence before my visit. Navigating direct Japan restaurant booking was somewhat difficult, so I emailed the hotel for help with finding a restaurant and booking it. The emails were always responded timely by the concierge staff and when I checked in, I was given restaurant directions to:from the hotel to give the taxi driver. When I entered or left the property, the staff went out of their way to ask me if I needed any assistance, whether it was directions, taxi service, restaurant recommendations, etc. They were always one step ahead of me offering assistance before I even realized I needed it! Megumi O in Guest Experience provided fantastic check-in experience, so helpful and accommodating. The absolute standout was N Sakamoto at the front desk. Thank you for providing such caring customer service for my friend who was fatigued and rested at the hotel while I was out. It was very much appreciated. The Marriott Bonvoy loyalty recognition is outstanding at this property! I could go on and on, but the bottom line, if you want the best, stay here!

- W5318GAnickr (10/5): Unparalleled Luxury at The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto - The Ritz-Carlton Kyoto was truly one of the finest hotel experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, the service was flawless, but the property itself is where it truly shines. It perfectly blends old-world Japan with modern luxury. The rooms, spacious for Kyoto, were beautifully designed and felt like a contemporary ryokan with sliding panels, natural textures, and elegant wood finishes. Thoughtful touches, like live Japanese string music, made the experience even more immersive. The location was another highlight—compared to the Park Hyatt and Four Seasons Kyoto, the Ritz offers a peaceful retreat away from tourist crowds, making it the perfect sanctuary after exploring the city. One downside was the subpar spa area and pool, which felt a bit underwhelming as they were located underground. However, we didn’t mind, as the overall feel of the hotel was just so incredible.
- GammelMont (8/5): Serene haven - A haven in lovely Kyoto. The hotel looks calm and serene and most of the patrons look like they belong there. Lots of locals so it has that true Japanese feel. Funny but you feel lile you have to act calm yourself. Staff is extremely professional. Food is good and they have decent american options for lunch.
- Seaside55188247887 (10/5): Thanks to Yumi and Neen for their exceptional level of service！Surpassing the Ritz in London and all other Ritz-Calton - I stayed at this hotel from December 17 to 20 in 2024, and it is one of the best Ritz-Carlton properties I have ever experienced. I will definitely return. First, I want to express my gratitude to Yumi for assisting with the check-in process. She was incredibly attentive and thoughtful, arranging every detail perfectly and even giving me a warm, handwritten postcard. I also really enjoyed the convenience of checking in directly in the room. As a member, I was also upgraded to a room with a beautiful view of the Kamo River, which I absolutely loved. The hotel offers many activities as well. On December 20, I joined the cycling tour, and the guide, Neen, left a lasting impression on me. She took us to a local temple that isn’t usually frequented by tourists, where we enjoyed the season’s last autumn leaves. Although the tour was just an hour, her attention to detail and thoughtful planning touched me deeply. I even asked to take a photo with her, and she later printed the photo as a gift for us, along with a handwritten postcard as a keepsake. Overall, the service at this hotel is the best I’ve ever experienced among all Ritz-Carlton and Ritz hotels I’ve stayed at, even surpassing the Ritz in London. Additionally, I loved the hotel’s swimming pool, which had the perfect water temperature. The sauna and steam room with scenic windows were incredibly relaxing. The twice-daily room cleaning service was also very satisfying. If I must point out a downside, it would be the breakfast service. The staff repeatedly asked if we were finished, which made me feel as if they wanted us to leave quickly.

We weightlift and they had more than the usual equipment for a hotel so that was nice. The bar and restaurants are also really good. We love Ritz Carlton and this one is a wonderful location. Right in the heart of Kyoto. It’s easy to walk to all the main areas

- Yo (10/5): A good place to go and best location for tourists. But skip BF if you can. - Location is unbeatable. Not terribly far by foot to major sites. Short trip by taxi and you can count on ur foot when weather is good or traffic jam. Room is spacious and well designed. Plenty space for tea time or in room dining . Good at winter or when u bought bento from takashimaya basement. There is a sofa besides very generous dining table and chairs. Bed is super comfortable. Breakfast high light: croissant and egg. Lots room to place luggages. We had 14 pieces there and still feel spacious. Bf: my son had Japanese bf and got food poisoned 2 hrs after. He was vomiting 5 times and destroyed his plan for Kitcho. We went there without him. A big disaster for him. The breakfast staff placed us at bad tables twice. First day placed by two energetic kids. 2nd day placed us next to a lady had none stopping speech over 1.5 hrs. Our entire bf time. None of the staff offer table switch or try to make these guest quiet.
