Guest Reviews
- Kathy (10/5): A wonderful find. - A wonderful find! The house is lovely and my room was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. And all at a very reasonable price!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Cosy character! - Lovely little room in a hotel with lots of character, and very convenient access. Everything I needed for a comfortable stay.
- megan (10/5): - old listed historical building, Brilliantly interior design.
outside wedding and events area is picturesque and beautiful. just off main road so still feel safe as its not in the middle of nowhere. we had a lovely stay in the Jasmine room, which has a boiler inside the room making it lovely and cosy! with a lovely sash window letting the sunshine in the morning. bathroom standard and clean. bed was a sturdy hard mattress. clean sheets and well kept room.
thank you Lisa we will be back to stay in your property the next time we are visiting.
all the best.
Megan and Lauren
- Alex (2/5): Loud bar - The room and property were fantastic but our room was directly above the bar that played loud music until 23:30 which was completely unacceptable.
- L (10/5): Definitely recommend a stay at this lovely house - This is not a hotel so do not expect any bar or restaurant to be available, it is a more personal service and better for it.
We prebooked a continental breakfast which was very nice but fresh baked pastries would have been preferable to the prepacked versions.
There is a lot of care and love put into this place and the staff were very welcoming and helpful to make sure we had the best experience. Our room was spotless and beautifully decorated and extra milk, pillows etc happily provided. Beware the uneven, creaking floors, but that goes with older houses and his one has plenty of character. Lots of eateries close by and pleasant gardens to sit outside. A lovely stay.
- Harpal (10/5): Fantastic boutique hotel - Fantastic boutique hotel wind wonderful service
- John (8/5): Business stay - Nice cosy place with comfortable room.
Needs a communal area for people staying as a group to be able to sit together.
Internet was keep dropping also which was a pain as I needed to work also and found it frustrating.
- Mark (10/5): Restful stay in nice spot. - Nice and peaceful, comfy bed, private bathroom, new coffee machine made a good cup. Car parking handy and very helpful and pleasant staff. The Hart served us a good meal after a long day.
Thank you. Mark and Sue.
- Geri (10/5): Friendliest most 'House Proud' Hotel - Absolutely lovely place to stay. Made more so by Lisa the manager who took so much pride in the place couldn't be more helpful and was really friendly.
Deffinatly will stay again when in the area.
- Andrea (10/5): Lovely! - Amazing! Lisa was beyond lovely, the space is a delight, and who doesn’t love a breakfast basket?
- Tatiana (10/5): Very cosy and warm bedroom - Very cosy and warm bedroom, nicely decorated.
Easy parking, great location.
- Beth (10/5): Most Beautiful Stay - Absolutely incredible overall. Such a beautiful and remote location, close proximity to shops & things to do. We even received a breakfast basket. The lady who showed us in was so helpful and kind. We had such an amazing stay & will definitely be booking again.
- Carlos (10/5): - Lovely and quiet
- Chris (10/5): A perfect boutique stay - A lovely stay in a very beautiful place with great staff
- Tracey (2/5): - Do not stay here! Bed was tiny, not a double and terrible mattress. Room 6 is basically the office with a tiny bed put in, doors opens right out onto reception desk so no privacy. Reception closes at 8pm so they left the room key under a flower pot outside for us to collect. Hotel left unnamed overnight. Shower tray blocked and completely floods onto the horrible bathroom carpet. Tiny tv that can only be viewed from the edge of the bed. Coffee cups that do not fit under the small coffee maker so could not be used. Dirty carpet, uneven floor and no one available to discuss with all weekend. We left at 6am as could not sleep, I am a well seasoned traveler and have never had such a bad experience, do not stay
- Trevor (10/5): What a hidden gem - An amazing property, situated in the middle of build up area but you really wouldn't know it. The building and the ground are beautiful and idelic . As soon as you arrive up through the little driveway past the pebbled car park the house presents itself wonderfully. From the reception to the rooms the word quaint comes to mind. There were a few little floors but considering the house is dated 1800s but I won't tarnish the house. I had tour of the morning I left so I got to view every room and the honeymoon suite which my partner and I stayed in was due for refurbishment which I needed. Every other room were outstanding. So the question is would I return ? No only am I returning we've decided that it will be our wedding venue that's how amazing the place is.
- Chris (4/5): Very poor - Impossible to get hold of hotel as apparently an electrician cut a cable. First room no shower no hot water second room better but no working shower in morning definitely a two star only hotel
- S (10/5): Perfect - The Orangery and Old Rectory Hotel is stunningly beautiful!
On arrival we were told that as it was our wedding night, they had upgraded us to The Honeymoon Suite.
Staff were extremely friendly and interested in how our day went.
This hotel doesnt have a breakfast facility, however; there was a beautiful little continental breakfast in a lobelt basket wairing for us. Pint of milk in the fridge as well as orange juice and yoghurts.
Would absolutely stay again!
Gorgeous.
Thank you for making our wedding night so special x
- RICHARD (8/5): - All good
- Gavin (4/5): - The Restaurant was a nightmare to get hold of we emailed ,tried to ring, there was no way to talk to anyone, so we had to make alternative arrangements. Even Hotels.com could not get hold of them!!!
- Stuart (4/5): Private = somewhere else - To start with NOT a 4 star - maybe 2 or 3. Very old and creaky, very creaky and be under no illusions with descriptions. Private bathroom whilst accurate, it is private, is also a little light on detail. Private means a different room across a public hallway from the bedroom. So this 4 star hotel includes rooms that are NOT en suite and with the freaks of the floor a visit to the bathroom in the night is a noisy and cumbersome experience.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - specious rooms.
Friendly staff
Good amenities
Convenient location
Property with character !!
- Stuart (10/5): Surprise gem - Amazing restaurant and friendly staff
- Marelle (4/5): Not worth the price - 3rd attempt leaving a review, am unable to upload photos, come on Hotels.com!
This was our 2nd visit here, first time stayed 2 nights in a double (only room left at time of booking), this time stayed in an executive room for 1 night only. We had been impressed by the customer service last time, was similar this time but my gripe is with the price and the cleanliness. We paid £129 for room only. Last time we learned the hotel was mid refurbishment, downstairs had been completed, the bedrooms were the next stage. Had thought this might have been completed but no. We checked in, left our stuff upstairs, room looked quite nice, went downstairs for dinner and drinks in the bar and only noticed on our return to our bedroom the following; huge cobweb on curtain in bathroom, light pull cord filthy and when toilet flushed, plumbing noisy! Also wardrobe had handle missing, pretty basic stuff...
On checking out I mentioned to reception which was passed on to the GM and I did receive an email from Lindsey. The staff were very nice but it’s the owners who are at fault here, far too expensive for the condition of the rooms.
- barry (2/5): - I was put in a room next to the reception and next door to a meeting room with a full on meeting that didn't finish until after 23.30 and I needed to be up at 0430
Drunk business men shouting and laughing was not what I booked...
- James (10/5): - Great stay, great staff
- Richard (10/5): Best hotel staff ever - An excellent little hotel. Very comfortable and clean. This is an old hotel and full of character. The staff here are what makes this amazing. They really look after you the whole time you are there.
- George (10/5): Tranquil - This is the second time I've stayed at the old rectory hotel and both times I've been very impressed.
The staff are attentive, friendly and courteous.
The hotel itself is very well looked after, the orangery in particular is very nice.
The garden area is tranquil and especially nice in the sunshine we've been experiencing recently.
My only slight negative, would be that the bathroom is down the corridor from the bedroom, which is inconvenient, but not a major issue.
- Don (8/5): - Pleasant surrounding and attentive staff but room a little dated and could be upgraded / modernised
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very lovely staff and beautiful breakfast. No dinner food for Monday & Tuesday was hugely inconvenient for us. Also rooms are almost not sound proof at all, no privacy in my room.
- robert (2/5): VERY LOW QUALITY HOTEL ONE STAR - The room was VERY DIRTY and the shower was Filthy the restaurant was not open but advertised as open and we were told we could go to a pub down the road to eat, the room was advertised as hsving a bath shower combination buth only had an old metal framed shower enclosure the cubivle was filthy and the shower head had not been cleaned for a long time when i asked the manager if there was a water hygene procedure to ensure against legionaires he did know what i was talking about, the bathroom door only had a hook to hold it shut but still left a gapping gap so there was no privacy when sitting on the loo. The windows had black mould between the glass and frame, the noise from a cocktail bar below the room went on untill the early hours and the bar wc below the room has a door which hits the toilet seat with a loud band everytime a customer in the bar used it. This hotel should not have four stars maybe two at the very most, we cancelled the second nights stay and was promised a refund but never recieved it, would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone and should be removed from your list immediately PLEASE
- Sergey (8/5): Good sleep and good breakfast, with some character - Located in the woods It is a listed building, so there is certain character there, in other words it is not neutral. If you are happy to accept that the building is old it is a rather pleasant place, it was a bit too warm in the room so I kept my window open through the night (November). So a combination of hot radiators and open windows made it just right temperature wise with lots of fresh air. Combined with no noise outside it was perfect for a good sleep.
Full English breakfast was very tasty and good quality. Parking is good.
I did not look thoroughly when I was booking, my bathroom and toilet were in a separate room, and to get there I had to walk through the corridor. There was no one else using that corridor though. But, the room was huge and the bathroom was huge too (bigger than my small bedroom at home) with a shower cabin and a big triangular bath.
- Deborah (10/5): Elegant hotel in secluded beautifully garden - Wonderful old property, very well presented in secluded established grounds. Excellent breakfast menu, cosy guest bar and the orangery is a lovely feature. It was like staying in a country hotel but with the benefit of being close to urban facilities.
- Jamie (4/5): A disappointment overall - The staff were really helpful, friendly and professional. The building and setting is beautiful. Parking is great. Location is great. We were really looking forward to staying here. However, the bedrooms are tired and dated. The kettle had to go on the floor to be used as the cable was too short to reach the table. The mirror was too low to stand in front of it (we're both 5'9" tall) and the huge room had such a small TV you could barely see it from the bed or sofa! We were shown three rooms before we found one that came with a shower and that had the bathroom right down the landing away from the room instead of en-suite. The doors were really creaky (WD40 required), the bed was so hard we both had a sleepless night with our backs aching in the morning. The restaurant was nice, the food was good but we both eat out a lot and thought the meal was 50% over priced for what it is. The waitresses forgot our drinks on both occasions we ordered them! 2 drinks each, a starter and a main each plus 1 portion of chips (which were extra but were needed in order to give a reasonable main meal portion) came to £76!!!! plus £7 tip is a huge amount for 2 people!! All in all we would not stay here again.
- Marelle (8/5): Hidden gem - We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting relatives in nearby Alvechurch. We didn't eat in the hotel but both nights relaxed in the bar. Mention has to be made of Liam who checked us in and later on, served us in the bar; exceptional customer service and a credit to the hotel. Our room was a bit dated however I note that refurbishment is on the cards. We will certainly stay here again in the future.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect for business and leisure trips - Beautiful location, quiet and comfortable
- Jane (6/5): Attractive old rectory in manicured gardens - Unfortunately due to several mishaps our stay was not a success. No signal for TVs meant there was little to do in evening, there's only so much time you can spend in the bar! We were given free Irish coffees.
Our room was extremely small and was more suited for single occupant, even set with single towels etc. Restaurant looked beautiful and lovely dining atmosphere however, due to staff problems our meal was very late in arriving, an explanation would have sufficed but it added to our frustration. We were offered a bottle of wine to compensate for lack of tv signal and certain staff were very apologetic.
Breakfast was an added charge to the room bill so we were expecting something really good.....it was awful, over cooked and had to be returned. They did refund us for this.
- Ronan (10/5): - Excellent hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Under renovation - no restaurant facilities.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff not always present\available.
Restaurant under refurbishment, but not told this in advance.
- CC (10/5): A very welcoming hotel - The staff were very welcoming and anxious to make sure we had everything we needed on our late arrival on a bitterly cold night.
The hotel made the most of its age + was decorated beautifully for Christmas in a Dickensian style. It had large magical Christmas trees in the reception and lounge areas + made the most of the manteled fireplaces.
The rooms were clean and well equipped.
- Deborah (8/5): Picturesque hotel - Lovely old hotel and friendly staff
- Sue (8/5): Secluded nice location - Ok comfortable and relaxing
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The house was of historical significance, having been the home of Christiphor Wrens grandson.
Lovely gardens & atmosphere.
- philip (10/5): - The old rectory was a very pleasant surprise ideal for a wedding ,delightful garden and central to lots of places to visit the staff where very helpful. Would definitely recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great overnight stop - Great hideaway in beautifully maintained grounds
- Liam (10/5): Great for mid-week and a fantastic weekend retreat - What a fantastic find! Beautiful, quiet location, offering a nice fixed menu for dinner and a proper breakfast. what more could you want as a business travel during the week. As for the building itself and the grounds, I'm sure it would be great for a weekend away too
- Jones (10/5): Old world comfort - First impressions were of the very friendly welcome given upon arrival.
After the endless experience to today's "digital hotels" this hotel exudes a more leisurely pace, even on the most rainy of days there is a feeling of tranquillity.
- Verified traveler (6/5): I don't rate this hotel..... - This hotel is not permanently manned therefore you need to ring the doorbell for access.
I only saw 2 members of staff in my 2 night stay. The young man who was waiting on worked really hard and was pleasant
It took me an hour to order room service, i rang the internal phone, rang externally, went downstairs and rang the bell on the desk - no one came, thankfully it wasn't an emergency! Finally, i got someones attention by going outside the hotel and ringing the front door bell!
Finally my room, it was small but manageable. The bed was comfy. As this is an older hotel, the noise from other residents doors and creaking floorboards got in the way of a good nights sleep. When i pulled my duvet back, there were lots of longish brown hairs all over the bed and bits/crumbs which made me feel sick, i hoped to god it was just from the person making the bed and not the previous occupant. Im working in the area again next week and won't be coming back
- Chris (10/5): V Good - Business trip made enjoyable due to the hotel and gardens.
- Jenny (8/5): - Friendly and relaxing place
- Paul (8/5): Breakfast - Every thing was good with the exception of the breakfast. I went for the continental, which ended up as two pices of toast with jam, then to be charge £12.00.When questioned I was told, OH that's £2.00 less. A very expensive couple of pieces of toast!!!
Left a bad taste and impression on me.
