Guest Reviews
- Edmond (10/5): - We enjoyed an idyllic adventure at the Beautiful Edge of the World bed and breakfast. Kurt and Caena were the ideal hosts. They provided us with a welcoming atmosphere into their home. The breakfasts provided were healthy and delicious. The setting on a coffee plantation enabled us to enjoy nature while relishing their warm hospitality.
The only challenge is that to reach the inn requires driving on unpacked roads. It was raining when we first arrived and our GPS stopped working. We called and Caena drove out to meet us and lead us to her home. The next day she led us out to the highway to ensure that we were familiar with the route. After overcoming this minor problem, we had a marvelous time at the Beautiful Edge of the World, which truly lived up to its name.
- Liz (10/5): - Kurt and Kana were wonderful hosts. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay with them! Kana made us a wonderful breakfast each morning. We got to try lots of tropical fruits they grew on their land, and the coffee was amazing. It was so peaceful and quiet, we could hear the waves from the few miles away the beach is. Kurt recommended some really good places to eat and beaches to go to. The sunset from the lanai was so gorgeous. The view was breathtaking. The bed was comfy. We also liked the water pressure in the shower. Also whatever soap they have for guests in the shower smells amazing and the shampoo and conditioner made my hair feel soft and look shiny. If we ever find ourselves back on the Big Island, we’re definitely going to stay here again! I would recommend The Edge to anyone and everyone.
- Delores (10/5): - Gracious hosts, wonderful breakfasts and coffee to start each day, fabulous views and no two sunsets are the same.
- Jill (10/5): - Great ocean view from the large, comfortable porch(lanai). Wonderful breakfast! We had the smaller room but it was sufficient and the living room and lanai were very comfortable to hang out. Bathroom was not in room but just a few steps down the hall and large and private. Jungle road to get there is awesome. A little hard to find at night. Jungle noises, mostly frogs, in evenings was nice. Roosters at 3:30 am not so nice but we got used to it. I had thought from the write up on it that we had use of the kitchen but it didn’t really feel that way but we did have our own small fridge to use. There were coolers and swim and snorkel stuff and beach chairs to use which was great. Easy access to good snorkeling and points south but a lot of traffic to go toward Kona. Overall it was a great place and we would stay there again. Nice hosts.
- denise (10/5): - The couple are very sweet and it was very personable
- Oleg (10/5): - Excellent!
- kendrick (10/5): - Our stay here was truly one of the best experiences of the entire trip! Try not to skip breakfast, we looked forward to it every morning!
- Sheri (10/5): - We loved our stay in the Pacific room. Large space, wonderful view from the deck, delicious breakfast. Kind hosts.
- Mona (10/5): - The owners, Kurt & Kana, are great hosts, providing your every need. The breakfast every morning was delicious with fresh fruit & ingredients from their farm as well as their own grown Kona coffee! We enjoyed our stay here!
- Katherine (10/5): - Kurt and Kana were very gracious hosts with a wealth of experience and understanding of the Big Island. It was a pleasure staying with them and the other guests.
- Lynda (10/5): - Definate feeling of getting away from it all. Amazing views. Fantastic hosts and hospitality.
Road is a little rough and might be hard to find in the dark. Had a great stay!
- David (10/5): - The owners provided a WONDERFUL breakfast with plenty of fresh fruit from the property. This was a real treat! Highly recommended!
- Robert (10/5): Amazing, but get a 4wd vehicle - It was a wonderful stay at an extraordinary place. Great hosts. Would return and will recommend.
- Marjory (10/5): - The Pacific room that we chose was wonderful. The huge veranda/ balcony gave us amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding countryside, The staff were great too! The only slight difficulty was finding restaurants for dinner due to many being closed for winter,
- Cynthia (10/5): - The private suite has a beautiful panoramic view from the room and a private balcony. The hosts, Kurt and Cana, are warm and welcoming. The breakfasts varied every day, including local fruits and coffee from their property.
- Zhan (8/5): Excellent - Excellent service. I can't expect any better. The staff were great, very helpful and extremely kind. I would like to thank them again and again. The breakfast was delicious. The view on the deck was beautiful. The drive to the property was scary, though.
- Dung (2/5): - Needs clean the place before rent to customers!
Up to date condition of the property!
Bedroom mattress, carpet floors, bathroom, towels needed to clean wash. no smellly! No new soap and shampoos!
Views outdoor not bad for sunset.
Overall the place needs major update!
We plan to stay for the whole trip bud and up can’t stand with the property conditions! Only stayed one night and have to move out gave up! Paid for the whole 4 days!
No start for the property.
- Michael (10/5): Amazing - Really amazing stay, great views and hosts. I don’t think there are many better places to stay and experience Hawaii.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly hosts. We really enjoyed our stay. We greatly recommend!
- Andreas (10/5): - Hidden away on the hill side with coffee farm around and beautiful views over the ocean.
The best coffee ever and delicious breakfast served by fantastic host. The host also knows the island very well and is full of advise and information. Very interesting and very helpful.
I would recommend anyone to stay at this fantastic place.
- Donavon Sandoval (10/5): - Kurt and his wife were excellent hosts; they were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the island and things to do. We loved the daily farm-to-table style breakfast, the variety of fresh fruit was incredible! The room was well furnished and the view from the patio was simply breathtaking. We can definitely picture staying here again in the future!
- Tony (10/5): - Thanks Kurt and Kana. Wonderful experience and perfect place to stay in Hawaii.
- Russell (10/5): - Kanae and Kurt are wonderful hosts on the Big Island. They have great advice on what to do and see, breakfasts were delicious, and they have beach and picnic equipment you can borrow.
- raul (10/5): Great view and place in captain cook area - Our hosts kurt and hana are the best. They're very informative and treated us like family. Their home breakfast meals were much better than 5 star hotels. I would definitely recommend their place. Very quiet and respectful atmosphere. The place is a little tricky at first to get to driving, but once you do its easy to remember.
- Attila (10/5): - The quiet in the wild this place. Clean ,comfortable and Kurt has the knowledge that tour books don't.Go and have your adventure.
- Kevin (10/5): - The hosts were very kind and gave us good advice about local activities. Breakfast included fresh fruit from the property. Do not miss the breakfast! Enjoyed watching the geckos. Nice view of the ocean. Comfortable bed. The drive to the property is a bit wild, but you get used to it. Very nice stay.
- Santi (10/5): - Fantastic views. Nice place.
Hosts, Steve and Barb were extremely nice and helpful. Breakfasts were VERY good, yummy and complete, yet healthy.
- David (8/5): - Overall, the place was great. The hosts were wonderful. Spectacular view!
Only negative was the drive to the house. The last half mile through a one-lane path. The path was difficult to maneuver as the terrain was rough and had steep sections. The rain made it even more difficult.
Didn't end up being an issue, but one note is that they only take check or cash, no debit or credit cards. This was identified in the communication, but can easily be overlooked.
- Christian (10/5): Incredible - What a Great place to stay. The road in and out is part of the charm and just adds to the remote feeling. We cant wait to return. Thx
- Gerard (10/5): Lovely and Relaxing Stay - We had a fabulous experience at Edge of the World, exactly achieving our goal of escape from the hub-bub of Oahu. Kurt and Kanae are very friendly, warm and welcoming (and interesting!) but also discreet, leaving us to our peace and quiet. The views are amazing, and Edge is conveniently located to Captain Cook and all the surrounding activities and excellent restaurants. Breakfasts are wonderful with coffee grown on site, yum! We highly recommend!
- julie (8/5): - Edge of the world is a great place to stay as a base to visit big island for a good budget. Room was big and clean and view from the balcony was awesome! Road to get there is a bit bumpy, but we could do it in a Camaro so any car can make it!
- Lisa (10/5): A relaxing stay in nature - Wonderful hosts. Our breakfast and coffee was harvested on the property. It was all very delicious. The view was magnificent and we felt very immersed in nature. The setting is jungle-like and there are piglets and chickens and cats and a horse and a donkey roaming around the property. We loved it. We will definitely return!
- Rebecca (10/5): Very happy at The Edge - Kurt and Kana were fabulous! Friendly and easy to talk to, and they take excellent care of their guests. The road to their place is a little intimidating at first, so Kana met us in her car and led the way. Great view, lovely breakfast (all home grown) and reliable recommendations for things to do in the area.
- Vismaya Shailaja (10/5): - We loved staying at the Edge! Kurt and Kana were both the kindest, nicest hosts I have ever met. The breakfast every day is delicious and the room is wonderful, stocked with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. The ocean view from the balcony is great, especially during sunsets and under the moonlight. The recommendations offered by Kurt were very helpful throughout our trip, and it was always great to wake up to both of their smiling faces. Highly recommend staying here!
- Tracy (8/5): - It was a fantastic and unforgettable stay at the beautiful edge B&B。 Kurt and his Wife is among the best host you can expect: Comfortable bed, delicious breakfast and a lot of advice for touring the big island. Definitely will recommend to friends
- Steven (10/5): - Wonderfully situated home with attentive host family. Beautifully decorated with lots of island artistry and a view which goes on forever. Breakfast was prepared with food grown on property and lots of local adventure follows.
- Teodor (10/5): - Very poor condition of the access road to the house. A 4X4 vehicle is strongly recommended.
- Andrew (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful people. Mary and John substitited for kurt and kana. They looked after us so well. Good local knowledge.
The drive down to the property is great fun. Lovely location.
- Kevin (10/5): - Very nice people, great local knowledge. Room was very clean, great view. Like a friendly home neighbor. Strongly recommended..😎
- Jeanne (10/5): - A Beautiful Edge is a great retreat away from the busier area of Kailua-Kona. The owners took really good care of us and offered suggestions for activities and loaned out beach chairs, etc. We stayed in two different rooms and preferred the "Crow's Nest" because it was the most private. The view from the lanai is extraordinary and such a great place to have breakfast or relax.
- David (10/5): Perfect stay, perfect hosts! - This stay was like coming home for Christmas. Kurt and Kana are wonderful hosts. Starting each day of exploring the big island with Kana’s AMAZING breakfast was the best part of the day. Kurt gave us excellent sight seeing tips including doing a circle tour of the island. We loved it. The place is located up above in the mountains and the ocean is spread below - fantastic views! Our room was very comfortable , well appointed, and whatever we needed was provided. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Edge and would love to come back some day!
- Cindy (10/5): Perfect place - Our hosts were amazing. Our room was excellent. They made sure we were comfortable in every way. Our breakfasts were from food produced on their farm clear down to the coffee. The view from the Lanai was spectacular. The road to get into the farm is a bit of an adventure but accessible by any vehicle. We will return there if we come back again. They made our stay wonderful.
- Ryan (10/5): Great stay! - Great stay, Kurt and Kona are wonderful people!! Very welcoming and very inviting!! It was a wonderful stay, would recommend to any one!!
- Larissa (10/5): - It is a beautiful edge! Peaceful and relaxing! Magnificent view over the ocean and sunset! Kurt and Kana are very friendly, warm and intelligent hosts. The room is spacious, clean, with a large deck. Absolutely delicious breakfasts with fresh fruit and vegetables. We wish we stayed longer.
- Roni (2/5): bad and good experience - It was reported that the room has a private bathroom, in fact, the bathroom and the toilet were outside the room and another couple living in another room in the house and they bathroom and toilet were broke down, so they entered our bathroom and toilet without asking our consent and without the landlord informing us that although we paid for a private bathroom in the room. the gust has even used our bath towels and it is not nice. Also, we have been traveling all over the world and it never happened that during all the days of staying, we stayed in a room that he is in a private home, they were not replaced bed linen, towels, and even the trash cans in the room and bathroom were not emptied even once.
Beyond the difficult experience of not getting basic services, I must note that the landlords are very nice people, the breakfast is special, the landlord gives tips for trips in the area every morning and let you use the sea equipment he has at home and umbrellas for rain. and the view is so beautiful from the house.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Kurt and Kana are amazing hosts, so knowledgable, friendly, and helpful and the location is out of this world with spectacular views of Kona Bay. It is also location-wise, the perfect jumping off point to anything you might want to do on the big island.
- Vincent (10/5): Best place we've stayed on Hawai'i! - Kurt and his wife were wonderful. Friendly, helpful, full of aloha spirit. The coffee plantation and farm it is on is secluded, quiet and incredibly peaceful with a panoramic view of the coast and sunsets. Fresh fruit and the best coffee I've ever had for breakfast each morning. The room was large, clean and comfortable. This is the way to experience old Hawai'i!! We will be back!
- Bev (10/5): - The large lanai overlooking the ocean with nice recliners to lay upon and see the sunset was superb. Our mini refrigerator on the lanai was a big plus as well. The free laundry if you stay 3 or more days a definite plus. Breakfast every morning with fresh fruit a real treat. A large friendly cat to pet on the lanai if you are so inclined. Our host giving great advice on things to see and do.
- David (8/5): Living on the Edge - A very basic room and double bed with no tv. Fabulous views from the deck. The drive down to the property is certainly not for the faint hearted. Good healthy breakfast that was supplied daily by great hosts. A reasonable price for B & B accommodation.
- Samiksha (10/5): - What an amazing place to stay with such beautiful views of the Pacific and lush green trees all around. The room is exactly how it was in the pictures and is very comfortable. Kurt and Kana were amazing hosts. Once you book, Kurt will send you detailed directions on how to reach his place, because the GPS takes your somewhere else. Just follow his directions and you should be good!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wow, the views! - First, I must say that if you're not familiar with the area, trying to get to the house at night the first time is an adventure in itself. We eventually found the house, and Kurt and his wife greeted us warmly. Both were gracious hosts throughout our stay, and a great source of local knowledge in terms of things to do in the area. Our room was large and spacious, with spectacular views from the room, balcony, and breakfast area; we really enjoyed working on our bird identification skills during breakfast (and watching the "Christmas Geckos" in the nearby fruit trees)!
In our opinion, the accommodations were well worth the nightly rate. My partner and I are already talking about our next trip to the Big Island, Captain Cook, and A Beautiful Edge of the World B and B.
- Patrick (10/5): Gorgeous place with a breathtaking view and vibe - We stayed in the pacific room and were blown away by the view, comfort of the bed, delicious breakfast, the amenities, size of bathroom and shower, and the graciousness and warm feeling that the place gives. The view of the west side big island coast line is just something to behold. Curt and Kana couldn’t have been more welcoming and their house is massive. The property sits above captain cook home to thee most gorgeous snorkeling spot I’ve ever seen. Two step! Absolutely a definitely big yes please. We will for sure be back.
- Alan (10/5): Gorgeous and best breakfast ever - The name of the B & B describes it well. Wonderful ocean views and great breakfasts and good conversation with other guests and hosts. We had no problems with the directions or the road.
- George (10/5): Edge of theWorld - Kurt and his wife were great hosts. The breakfasts were great and Kurt’s time pointing out places we could see was great. We got a much better picture of the Big Island that way.
The room was great with an incredible view of the Pacific. If we come back to Hawaii, we would definitely like to stop there again.
- Suzzette (10/5): Forever views, the BEST host! - The hosts are very responsive and helpful with knowledge of the area. The room was VERY clean and quiet. The bed a little soft for my liking. All in all , I would visit this B n B again for sure. 5 stars!!!!
- Scott (10/5): Outstanding place - my partner and I stayed 4 nights here. We loved the location. It's only about 20 minutes from Kona & 20 minutes from Two Steps (my favorite snorkeling location). The room was very comfortable. It's located off the beaten path but you are provided very detailed instructions on how to get there and after you do it once, it's easy to find. Breakfasts were all delicious & included fresh fruit. We really appreciated having our own refrigerator and the availability of coolers they y offered. They even did our laundry at no charge. We will definitely be back
- Ricky (8/5): Egge of World - Outstanding host - Louise, a gracious and friendly world traveler. She is very knowledgeable in the local plants, wildlife and things to do in the area. It was a treat speaking to her about her/our world travels. Fantastic view of the Pacific; the coffee, papaya and other plants from deck. Overall worth the white knuckle drive the last 1/4 mile. (Best to arrive before sunset!) The only way to experience this unique locale, is to get off the beaten path! Added a very "intimate" element to our stay on the Big Island.
- Kevin (10/5): Relaxing Hawaii getaway - A well kept secret on the Big Island of Hawaii. The view overlooking the ocean was amazing from our room. Spacious and comfortable. The owners were very gracious and breakfast was delicious. Staying with locals of the area give some insight to the area that you might not find in the tour books
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The view from the balcony was absolutely incredible, great place to grab a drink and watch the sunset (as recommended by our hosts). Lovely property tucked into lush forests, breakfast included locally grown and roasted coffee, fruit and pancakes. Our hosts were very welcoming and more than happy to chat about the local area, places to see etc. Can be tricky to find, do follow the directions for the nicest drive down!
- thomas (10/5): Edge of paradise - Lovely home, view, ambience. Don't attempt you first drive in after dark. Otherwise, a gem all-around.
- William (6/5): Radical 4 wheel drive Road - This property is extremely hard to find. Had to ask a few neighbors where it was. Fortunately we had a 4 wheel drive rental car. Good luck if you have a rental car without 4 wheel drive.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic part of the world - Kurt and Kana are the greatest hosts you can imagine. Each morning Kurt would provide a game plan for the day that catered to every set of guests. His recommendations proved to be exactly what we were looking for without really knowing what we were looking for😊
- Robert (10/5): Hawaii delight - Quiet, secluded; exceptional views; pleasant, interesting hosts; delicious breakfast. Highly recommended.
- Jeff (10/5): Wonderful Stay - Kurt & Kana are amazingly excellent host & hostess ! Real Hawaiian Ohana !
What a wonderful stay
- Kerilyn (8/5): AMAZING VIEWS! - Beautiful, expansive balcony with amazing views. No air conditioning so it can get warm. Beautiful but kind of awkward drive to the place. Nice owners, very knowledgeable and willing to share information.
- Edna (10/5): My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this place. - We enjoyed our stay at this place. The breakfast prepared by Keith every morning was delicious. Keith was such a wonderful host and he made us feel like home. Thank you very much for our stay at your lovely place. We hope to stay at your place again! Edna and Norman
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful and helpful! - Everyone was as wonderful as the views and breakfasts! I loved the balcony and ocean views. The rooms were nice, it was quiet, and they were so friendly. The drive to various things nearby wasn't bad at all. I would definitely stay here again!
- Linda (6/5): nice room and hosts, but this is NOT hotel. - This is a nice family room in a single family house in captain cook countryside. It was very hard to find the location when we arrived around 6pm in dark evening. We called the host and they came out to guide us to the house. The surrounding is dangerous since we did not see it at day time. If you come in the day time, you will be more comfortable with driving. The hosts are very nice and the family room is clean. Since we were not be able to go out for dinner due to unfamiliar surroundings, the hosts provided us with complimentary breakfast for us at night, which we really appreciate.
- Sherry (10/5): Lovely B&B - The host and hostes werevery helpful and pleasant. I would stay again.
- Charles (10/5): Awesome B&B. Great hosts. Great location. - One of the best trips we have ever had. Kurt and Kana made us feel at home. The Hawks nest room was beautiful with incredible views from the private deck. Kurt's knowledge of the area was very helpful and I enjoyed our morning conversations and getting to know the family. Kana's breakfast were a perfect blend of fruit with something different each day. Eggs, pancakes, muffins, etc. The fruit and coffee are grown on site. Our favorite memory is kayaking and snorkeling with dolphins in the bay, twice. Or maybe it was night snorkeling with Manta Rays. Kurt can hook you up with the right people....
- Ian and Susanne (10/5): Fantastic, from the minute you arrive. - From the minute you arrive you realise you have found a little bit of paradise.
- EVELYNE (10/5): Nice B&B near Captain Cook - The host are very freindly and helpful. They give good informations on the region.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place to stay. - I found the hotel staff to be very friendly and accomodating.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The room was very comfortable. The location of the B&B was remote, but a lot of the island sights were very accessible from the location, and the views were wonderful. Breakfasts were delicious.
- John (10/5): Secluded B & B - Wonderful hospitality including the welcome e-mail, morning breakfasts and unlimited information--
The home is a challenge to find, but the hosts provide very explicit directions--it is beyond GPS.
- Verified traveler (8/5): A special place - We enjoyed our stay at the aptly named 'the edge', which was very welcoming. The breakfasts were substantial and yummy. We would advise arriving before dark because the driveway is steep and narrow
- Gudny (8/5): Great atmosphere and beautiful view - Our stay with Kurt and Kana at "the edge of the world" was great. Kana makes a tasty breakfast while Kurt serves his own coffee and helps you with tips and tricks on the island. It is a very cozy place with beautiful view and relaxed atmosphere. We would definitely recommend this place to other couples visiting Big Island.
- Steve (10/5): Comfortable location in quiet area - My wife and I spent 7 nights at the B&B and had a great time. Kurt and Kana are great hosts. Kurt is very helpful with tips on locations to see and suggestions around time to be at certain locations to maximize your time on the Island. Kurt makes available to guests access to coolers, ice packs, and snorkel equipment if required... an added bonus.
The location is out in the country, so it is for people who want that type of location. You won't be able to walk to any amenities, but evenings are very pleasant on the balcony and the views are great. There were no mosquitos on the property that we experienced, including evenings after dusk.
The room was very comfortable. It doesn't have air conditioning, but this wasn't required as the location is higher in elevation than the shoreline, and evenings were quite pleasant. Breakfasts were served between 7:30 and 8 AM to get you ready to explore the island, and were great, including Kurt's locally grown coffee and fruit.
The only negatives were the rooms are not quite as sound proof as other locations, and if you want to go for an evening walk you are out of luck (not an issue for us as we had a great time on the balcony in the evenings).
One thing to consider if you book is that this location only accepts cash or travelers cheques if you don't pay through Expedia.
Would definitely stay at this location again.
