Guest Reviews
- Jason (1/5): Bad -
- Rhonda (8/5): - This is an old downtown hotel which is neat area. I like looking at downtown’s in every city I go. The hotel doesn’t seem too busy but works for my event. I might have been the only person there this time. The room was clean but other areas not so much. Have bought light bulbs before because there was only 1 wimpy one in the room.
- James (8/5): - Basically used for shower while dry camping at a local music festival. My friend used it for the WiFi to work a couple hours. He said the WiFi connection was very good.
- Tania (2/5): - First impression is that the "hotel" is run down and abandoned. Hotel advertises a bar on site, the bar was shut down with no one around. Had to call two phone numbers provided at the reception desk before someone picked up and told me they were coming down. When the clerk showed up he said "I only have one room for one person" despite the fact that online my reservation was clearly advertised to be for two people; and both my husband and I were in front of him. He kept insisting to "go have a look", and kept repeating " I have one room". No mention of upgrading to a different room was also made in person, while there seemed to be options online. The whole situation seemed very sketchy, and the "hotel" seemed very unsafe. When I asked for a refund as I had pre-paid, he said : " I wouldn't charge you" and turned around and ran inside the elevator even though my husband and I were still talking to him. I had to call Expedia and get a refund through them. The most unprofessional and rude interaction I've had in my life.
- Peri (2/5): - No soap provided in the bathroom. Shredded bathmat. Broken ceramic shelf in shower with jagged edges. Hole in comforter. Beetle bug found on bed. Blood stain found on side of mattress. 1 working light in bathroom (out of 5 light fixtures). Smoke alarm bracket on ceiling, no alarm. Garbage bags sitting behind a pillar in lobby area. (Have pictures of all, sans bloodstain.) Canceled second night of stay.
- Robert (2/5): Repulsive and misrepresented - Terrible facility
I refused to check in
- Beth (1/5): Couldn't recommend, wouldn't return - The desk clerk was nice and there was a vending machine. Dirty, worn furnishing, low attention to safety
- Greg (6/5): - There were no cups in my room. I was given an upgrade with a king-size bed.
- Lucien (6/5): - It was an ok stay
- Jaime (10/5): Exceptional - The Prince was great. Plenty of room, and a hot tub.....it was great. Later
- Mary (1/5): Go to Skyline Motel down the street. - Location is nice and the hotel itself has loads of potential unfortunately whoever is running doesn't give a hoot and it's apparent. It was absolutely filthy. Everything had a layer of dust over it. The carpeting was stinky and probably older than me. The towels all had holes and looked more like old washer rags. Rooms had no overhead light fixture. The shower had someone else's hair on the walls. These people don't even try to make this place worth the price they charge you. I live in Pittsburgh, but I'm from this area originally and I could get a decent hotel room where I live now that is actually CLEAN for what I paid for this dump. We left after one night because of the filthy condition of the room and bathroom. The guy who runs the desk, was supposed to give me a refund for the second night and he offered to do both nights which I didn't even expect, but he has never answered Booking.com in the last two months they tried to reach him. He also hasn't answered when I call directly. Don't stay here. I paid for a night I didn't even stay. Place is disgusting. Fabulouso and a bucket of hot water would go a long way and wouldn't cost that much! Please use my money that you kept to invest in cleaning supplies and clean the hotel!
- Jessica (6/5): Pleasant - Affordable, spacious, decent for the price, Smelled like smoke, minorly dirty, scuffed walls and furniture.
- Phil (4/5): Comfortable and convenient for a good price but lacking in room quality. - The price and location were attractive for my purposes.
Large bed.
Good television. The room's overhead light fixtures were missing, ceiling imperfections.
No wash cloths, hand towel, soap, drinking cups upon arrival.
The tub jets did not work.
Bed was too soft for my tastes.
- Mauricio (10/5): - Was an amazing to relax 😌.
- Purcell (1/5): Would not recommend - The place was bad. Nothing about the hotel
- Weathers (7/5): Good -
- Marilyn (10/5): - The staff were very friendly and accommodating
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jeffery (7/5): cheap stay. get what you pay for. - walking distance to activities room was dirty, stains on couches and table. probably would come off with some cleaner. didn’t look like it was attempted to be clean though.
- Lauren (10/5): I go here every time I wanna get away - I love how it is in the middle of town. beautiful rooms some of the rooms didn’t have working lights
- Kathleen (7/5): Owner is really nice; price is more than fair for what you get; but this is not 4 star luxury - I called before booking to inquire about early check in, and what I'm guessing is the sole proprietor (he was the person who always answered the phone, always greeted us, we didn't speak to or meet anyone else working there) was always really nice, helpful, straightforward and kind.
The location is awesome, the history of the hotel is cool, the town is a tiny little gem (hit the Deitrich theater, so fun) so it's a great cheap location if you want to visit nearby stuff like Jim Thorpe or other regions of the mountains.
At time of booking, the King Suite room with a jacuzzi was $107 plus tax - the cons of the room (below) are honestly pretty consistent with that price point. The rooms have def seen some age that could be cleaned up/repaired a little better. There's a lot of chipped paint, it's clear the housekeeping is not quite as thorough as it could be, and one of our blind valances literally detached from the ceiling in a hailstorm of paint chips and rotten wood lol - we had to tack up the top sheet to cover that window for the night as it was late and neither we (nor we assumed the owner) wanted to deal with switching/fixing at 1am.
Again, for the price - you're getting what you pay for and I will say the jacuzzi tub was def cleaned and it stayed hot and bubbly haha. If you're a major germaphobe or very anxious about cleanliness, this may not be the place for you. If you've got a little adventure in you and don't mind just maybe running an extra "sterilize" laundry load when you get home, it's just fine.
- Martin (3/5): entirely outdated Hotel stuck in the past, with weird access through a Mexican restaurant. Hotel staff motivated though! - very good location right in the center of Tunkhannock
free parking behind the hotel
free „upgrade“ which was appreciated due to the low occupancy they don’t have Someone at the reception 24x7 which is perfectly fine and once calling the number at the reception, someone was there within a couple of minutes.
the biggest issue was the fact that once we were in our room, my girlfriend used the bathroom but couldn’t get out anymore. For some reason the whole handle was useless from both sides. I don’t even want to imagine what would have happened if we both would have been in the bathroom without our cellphones. especially since the windows could not be opened and we were on the second floor anyway.
after once again calling the reception phone number the owner/front desk clerk arrived within a couple of minutes. he also once again tried it himself and went to get some tools. he tried around with the tools and was even considering to break the entire door. since nothing helped he „called a guy“ and told us he’d be back in a couple of minutes. this triggered us to give it a try ourselves and so my girlfriend basically unscrewed the handle from the inside and we managed to get her out of there.
after calling the person again he told me to leave the tools in front of the door, that he would get them later and that he would get someone to fix it the next day. the tools were still in front of the door the next day and the door had not been fixed by the time we left.
- Aseyev (9/5): Superb -
- Ronald (10/5): Exceptional - Everyone was very helpful and friendly
- CAROLYN (4/5): - The hotel was very unkept and dirty.
- Tabatha (2/5): Historic embarrassment - Couldn’t find the entrance. Checking in, the gentleman at the desk took me up to the room and asked if it was okay. It was dark in the room but everything looked fine at first glance. Went back to the desk and got our key. Went back up to the room. When I got in and started looking around, things started popping out to me. The room was sinking in toward the bed. Even the tall dresser was leaning into the bed. There was garbage in my can. Two bottles of alcohol in the fridge. No remote for the tv. The shampoo and conditioner were half used. There were red stains on the towels, looked like spaghetti sauce. This was a stay in my hometown, I brought my boyfriend to see how amazing and beautiful it was. I couldn’t have been more embarrassed!
- David (4/5): Needs work - It’s an okay place too stay, I had no hot water at all on my trip and no tv remote on the night I checked in but other then that I’d give it a 4 outta 10
- Verified traveler (6/5): House keeping - Comfortable beds, fairy clean. I asked them not to clean my room and they said i would be charged 200.00 if i didn't use their cleaning service. The cleaning service threw things away that i was still using which is why i prefer not having them come to my room until i check out.
- David (10/5): Awsome, I'd Recommend. - It was good, very good.
Im traveling, job related, and needed to search for a place close to the site, and decently priced.
The Prince met the criteria.
Staff and owner, very rrspectful, really cool actually
The prince will be my place, as the job continues.
- David (8/5): Very good, i'd recommend. - The Hotel is very nice, its my 2nd stay..soon to be 3rd.
So it would be nice, or i wouldnt be a repeat client.
- Rory (8/5): - Nice time simple
- Jayne (2/5): - No one answered the phone when I called at a normal time. I called & called. So my problem was that we couldn’t make it for the 1st night so we reserved for an extra night. So when we show up at around 8pm, they say they cancelled our reservation because we didn’t show up. They did say we will not be charged. So we had to find another place to stay a half hour away.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - its a cheap place to sleep at night. nothing more. The place is pretty desolate, the impression one might form is it's closed or about to be.. The parking lot has a spray painted sign "Prince Hotel Parking" it almost looks vacant with weeds growing threw the cracks in the pavement and no lines painted for organization. The building is old and at one time was likely majestic, decades ago I'm certain. rooms are very small, and with no smoke detectors. My room and the main areas where clean and that's what mattered most to me.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Room was so small and was always noisy even someone walks upside or at the other side of the room.
Floor board makes awful creaky noise and cant sleep at all the entire night. Wifi was very poor even 2g will work fine if you have on your phone. No proper response from the lobby/ reception. Not worth your money. spend some extra 20 to 30 bucks per night at another hotel
- Thomas (8/5): Prince Hotel 6/6/21 - The cozy room was clean and comfortable. But there was no hot water in the faucet in the evening. I was able to take a hot shower in the morning. I never saw another guest here. I guess that's not a problem but it seemed strange.
- Richard (10/5): Tunk - Since I am an American, I wish this was in English. Great hotel !!!
- Tyshawn (8/5): - The room was a bit smaller than I expected but it was a great stay. I arrived late at night and received a free upgrade to the hot tub squite. The room was exceptional and very relaxing. Great night sleep. Thank you.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Was once a grand property. Renovated but obviously limited by covid 19
- Verified traveler (4/5): - They over charged me paid $458 for 2 nights
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Home like with a few glitches. Mini fridge freezer didnt work and had water all over.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Mediocre with no issues - It was a cute little place. The service was awkward, like they’re not used to having guests. I would stay here again if i needed to.
- Liaisan (6/5): - Very dirty. I am happy i always travel with my own sheets and pillows, over vise i wouldn't be able to stay.
But location is great, building is great.
- Angela (8/5): More comfortable than those 3x the price - This was the most comfortable hotel I have stayed at in a very long time. I have stayed at hotels 3 times the rate and this room was more comfortable than those. It was a bit small and could use a dusting, but the bathroom was immaculately cleaned.
- Stanley (2/5): - Expedia should not offer this hotel. Phone number handwritten in the lobby to call when you arrive. 10 Yankee candles burning to mask the smell. One room off lobby was under construction, maybe? Light out in hall by my room. I used my phone's flashlight to see where to put my key. Room was disgusting.
Gouges in walls. Unbearable smell and no ventilation. I left and found a room somewhere else which had a minor defect, but was 100% better than the Prince Hotel.
- Lindsay (6/5): Convenient hotel - We went to a wedding at Shadowbrook but they were booked up, so we ended up staying at Prince Hotel because it was close enough by. There isn't a shuttle from hotel, so we called the local taxi service which was nice. The hotel used to be amazing but looks like the bar and restaurant are closed down. There are NO vending machines, had to go 2 doors down to Tioga Bistro for water bottles. Attempted to drink the tap water and it was atrocious. Check in took entirely too long of at least 10 minutes. The man at the counter was barely friendly but certainly not rude. Stay here in a pinch, not for romance or long term. The bed was comfy however.
- amber (2/5): Rough - There was no one there when we went to check in at 3 o'clock. Had to wait 20 minutes till someone showed after calling the number they had there. My whole family was kept up by loud obnoxious people until 230 in the morning. The bathroom was absolutely filthy. The rest of the room was very clean. I will never stay there again
- Verified traveler (6/5): Clean but small rooms - This is a mom-and-pop operation, and it shows. There's a dining room and a bar on either side of the main hallway next to the front desk, and it doesn't look like either one has been open in ages, so don't expect breakfast. It took the woman at the desk 15 minutes to process the guy in front of me, and that's including 5 minutes to sell him a six pack of beer from a padlocked display cooler. And she had to run my credit card three separate times, once for each of the three double-bed rooms I booked Two of the rooms were about 10x10, and the other was almost triangular at about 12x8, easily the smallest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. There was a luggage caddy in the room, but you can't leave your bag open on it, since then there's no place to put it without blocking a door or the aisle. The platform bed had these metal protrusions in at least two places that my wife and I both walked into, and the bed itself was overly soft. Worst part was, when I provided feedback, they actually had the nerve to blame me for expecting to get two people into one of these rooms (which Expedia sells as accommodating two people)
- Verified traveler (2/5): Would rather stay at a Hostel - The Prince Hotel, Tunkhannock, PA
Owner was not friendly or accommodating what so ever. For someone in the "hospitality" business, apparently she didn't get the memo. Room booked was not what was provided. Also wanted to double charge for the room (already paid, but wanted to charge again). Did not stay. Hotel is run down and dingy. Not sure how they are still in business. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.
PS. Nichols Village Hotel in Clarks Summit isn't much better.
- Robert (8/5): - nicely remodeled old hotel but needs to finish painting trim work and I know they are contractors staying there but the owners could clean carpets and wipe mud off of doors odd also no one at front desk to check you in when you arrive other than that it was a comfortable and reasonable rate for hotel thanks
- Luke (2/5): Worst stay ever - The rooms were nasty... black mold on ceilings... dead bedbugs on mattresses in both rooms...and a dirty sock from a previous person under bed...clearly they don't clean
- Jo (6/5): Hotel is dated and could be cleaner - Hotel was nice to stay at, as it was in town and close to amenities. However, the hotel staff could have been friendlier and the rooms should have been cleaner. I stayed for two nights and only got one bottle of shampoo and one bar of soap.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Convenient hotel and very reasonable price - Nice spot - convenient - very reasonable price - comfortable clean room
- Hannah (8/5): Unique, clean, comfortable - The Prince Hotel has a European feel to it- the hotel itself is made up of several buildings that have been renovated together. Our room was small but comfortable, with all of the comforts of a much larger hotel (tv, microwave, hair dryer, etc). It looks like it was recently renovated and the shower was the best part of the room.
- Mary L. (10/5): Very nice visit - I stayed one night in Tunkhannock. The room and bathroom were very clean and neat. The bed was comfortable, and the TV had lots of channels. The hotel is located right in the middle of town. Within 2 blocks are several nice restaurants, shops and a movie theater across the street. I walked around town and saw several beautiful homes. I enjoyed my visit very much!
- whit16 (6/5): Right in middle of town - Front desk not really friendly. Stairs were dirty going up to room. Hallway carpet pretty shot. Room was dusty but clean. Small but pretty updated. Bathroom was nice and clean. Bed and linens were clean and comfy. I guess all bar/restaurants were closed. No breakfast as listed in hotel description. From a couple earlier reviews guess that's not a bad thing. Overall still almost $50 cheaper than chains in town.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Dirty, cold, and weird - This hotel is so weird. It's an older building they tried to modernize, but parts of it are obviously still in bad shape. There are colored lights in random places throughout, like the decorator thought it was an 80s bar instead of a hotel. The lobby and public areas were freezing cold, but the rooms were warm - they were probably trying to save on heat, it was very unwelcoming. My room was dirty. Smears of something on the end table, comforter had stains and a hole, door had black smudges on it, there was a hair on the sheets and on the bathroom counter. Also, the staff said since I prepaid I could just leave the key in the room when I left - I wouldn't have minded normally, but with all the other nonsense going on, it seemed like they didn't want to be bothered with visitors.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Acceptable accommodations - We arrived late, about 9 pm. No personal was at the front desk. There was a sign asking to call a phone number to talk with someone. I did a a man came to help us. He was cordial but short. I told him about my reservation and he asked me for my credit card and diverse license. Again polite but sort. He gave me my papers back. Explain me where to park and asked me to leave the room key at the front the next day. After that time we never saw another soul. The room was clean but had only a small bed. It was acceptable for one night.
- Alfred (6/5): Middle of nowhere - Stayed here with my girlfriend after a weekend away. This town was small and quiet, which is nice if that's what you're looking for. It was a little too dead for us, though. The hotel itself was small, but it served its purpose. There was no breakfast as advertised, but it didn't matter.
- Verified traveler (2/5): don't risk it - VERY thin walls - no chance of getting any sleep if you have any neighbors around you. Even the softest conversation can be heard. very soft old mattresses.
- Michael (8/5): Great alternative to the usual stay - Historic building, nice facilities, beautiful bathrooms. Generous discount on meals eaten at the restaurant, and food is good. They have been short staffed recently, which sometimes impacts service. Otherwise, good stay and very reasonably priced.
- Corina (8/5): Nicely remodeled now let's work on staff and other - Beautiful town, wonderful shops and restaurants close by. Hotel recently remodeled and tastefully done. Could not get wifi as promised, hotel staff efficient but unfriendly and breakfast almost nonexistent.
- William (8/5): Boutique Hotel - Great bar and very nice clean European style boutique rooms. A little slow on room refreshing the next day. Excellent location in the middle of town. Will stay there again.
- Taunia (8/5): Very nice and comfortable - Very nice hotel that has been updated and redone. Rooms are on the smaller side but very comfortable and very clean! Overall a nice hotel to stay at that is close to town.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Prince Hotel experience - The first night we were awakened at 3:30 am by the fire alarm. After standing on the street for 45 minutes it was determined that someone pulled the alarm on the third floor.
The next day while I was visiting my mom, my husband went for a walk and when he returned all of our belongings were removed from our room and were in the lobby. The manager said Expedia made a mistake and only had y s staying one night. The printout I got from Ex o media clearly sais two nights and collected two nights from my credit card. Ths was totally unexceptable!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The old downtown hotel has been beautifully updated. The owner ran everything and was very helpful.
- Lee (10/5): Underpriced and a steal. - The hotel was extremely nice. I would stay there over the surrounding hotels every time. At $30 less $99 vs $129 it was both a steal and an experience. Don't count on the breakfast though unless your partial to fruit loops. Tips to owners of the hotel. Lose the continental breakfast and open that wonderful restaurant up for a quality breakfast and provide room service. This would have been a true treat of a weekend if you offered the full bed and breakfast package.
- KT (6/5): The good and not-so-good - The Good:
The property was recently renovated and is very nice inside. Very clean. I had a single room; bed was very comfortable and they made the best use of a small space.
The Not-so-good:
My room only had a recessed light in the ceiling for light and no bedside lights even tho there were outlets made. This made the room dim in the evening and inconvenient for reading.
I had dinner in their restaurant. Disappointing experience. I ordered the French Onion soup- hardly any broth because chef used a large piece of bread so it was like eating onion broth bread with cheese on top. Also, the "steak quesadillas" was a tortilla with a few pieces of meat in each section and a little cheese mixed in. No onions or green peppers. Very poor.
Food delivery for two appetizers was also very slow.
- Deena (10/5): close to route 6 - Friendly staff, clean room, great bar and restaurant. We had a great meal in the restaurant. Hotel is located in the middle of town, good location.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Good experience overall. The staff is friendly and accommodating.
