Guest Reviews
- Sonja (10/5): - A lovely hotel for anyone who wants to relax in a stunning location. With it's own private beach, you can enjoy the sunset right from the pool or restaurant, and we even had a few friendly water buffalo wander past! If you want more hustle and bustle then perhaps stay closer to the port, as there aren't many shops or restaurants nearby, but this was the perfect place for us to recover after our action-packed Komodo Islands cruise. The rooms are simple but very spacious and comfortable. The staff are lovely and accommodating - they even started the breakfast buffet one hour earlier for us as we had an early flight! Food is simple but it's great value for money overall, one of our favourite hotels on our trip!
- Jennifer (10/5): - An excellent property for a cheap overnight stay on the way to Komodo. Check in was fast and hassle free. Room was basic but clean and quiet. More luxurious rooms were available, but we didn't feel it was worth it for one night. Beach area lovely and perfect for the sunset. Restaurant on the beach served perfect food at a very reasonable price. We didn't use the pool but it did look a little tired. Collection from the airport and breakfast was included. We ordered the breakfast box to eat on the boat.
- travellingwine (8/5): Nice stay - The hotel overall has a great location on the beach and the pool has a nice view. The breakfast was basic but good and the rooms were clean and comfortable. I had dinner here also and found the food to be quite good. I would definitely return if I travelled through Labuan Bajo again
- Danny (10/5): - Tempatnya nyaman, kamar villa nya cukup luas, staff nya ramah-ramah, bisa anter ke airport free, suasana villa banyak nyaman, air kamr mandi lancar ,toilet bersih dan luas.
- Huzaima (8/5): - Hotel staff are helpful and friendly. Nice pool on the beach. Not crowded. Has its own restaurant and bar. We paid extra to be upgraded to the villa as we wanted more space and a balcony. About 7 mins drive to town.
- JeannieD_12 (6/5): Great service and location, but smelly rooms and not so well-maintained - This smaller hotel on the island of Flores; Indonesia has excellent service and a decent breakfast. The rooms could be cleaner, and the hotel is very poorly maintained. I got two rooms that smelled like sewage and it even smelled outside. The beach is nothing to be excited about and you really can’t go swimming. The place has been so neglected that even their paths are falling apart, there’s rust in the shower but the beds are comfortable.
- Pauline (10/5): - This hotel is a little easy out of town but reachable on a Grab bike for less than 20.000Rp. Great pool/beach and a nice little restaurant. Rooms are standard layout.
- MarkusJ493 (10/5): Wonderful stay at beautiful beach hotel Ayana - At the end of a wonderful trip to Indonesia, we came to the Ayana Hotel in Bajo to relax. It was an excellent choice. Architecturally, the building is a masterpiece: the design is harmonious, the room layout is perfect with extremely generous space. The swimming pool and seaside facilities are pleasant, the restaurants in the hotel are excellent; a generous international breakfast buffet with an Indonesian touch. Even more important than the practical and beautiful infrastructure is the courteous and diligent staff who spared no effort to make our stay more enjoyable - the cleaning staff, waiters like Rolin and Tania at breakfast, the waiters at the pool bar and in the restaurants, the lifeguards and receptionists deserve special mention.
In short: PERFECT!
- subdudea (8/5): Nice and cosy hotel with lovely view of the sunset - Staff at the hotel are friendly and some are english speaking.
Room is clean and big. Most rooms have a great view of the sunset.
There is a nice swimming pool and a beach volleyball court beside the alfresco restaurant where the breakfast is served.
- NicoleJade2512 (10/5): Beautiful Spa & friendly staff - We went to the Cave Spa at the hotel as people who stayed outside the hotel (not guests).
We had Hilma & Rahma as our massagers. The massage was amazing and you could tell that they had so much expertise and could feel where needed specific focus.
Really enjoyed it and my body feels so much better and relaxed! Loved the massage and lovely staff too :)
- snalo (2/5): Unprofessional, immature and poor maintenance . - 4 stars for this place has got to be a joke! They would barely come of as 3 stars. The maintenance is terrible, and the staff is so immature an unprofessional. They stare, laugh and talk about you when you can clearly see it. So uncomfortable. Think it would be good for them to get some education and evaluation from the management. None of them barely speaks English? The pool was basically a green pot full of dirt and the beach was full of trash. If you’re loooking for a nice place, I wouldn’t recommend this. It’s a huge scam and from reading the huge amount of bad reviews, they don’t seem to care about the low effort on accommodation service.
4 stars is very undeserved.
Do better
- Esther (8/5): - Luwansa is a nice place to stay for a few days. Food, room, people and pool are very nice. The beach is dirty; a lot of trash. And the bottom of the sea is covered with dirth. Not nice to swim.
The view is great and ideal to see the sunset.
- I1942KTbrentc (10/5): Cool Beachfront Hotel - Very nice, friendly hotel. Lovely rooms and helpful staff. This was our base as we did day trips to Komodo and it was a pleasure to get home each night and relax. The beachfront restaurant/bar is very comfortable and the breakfast buffet lets you fuel up for a day of adventure. I would happily stay here again. Labuan Bajo is a beautiful little town full of friendly people.
- iDiveDeep (10/5): Beautiful Resort Perfectly Positioned in Labuan Bajo - Luwansa is perfectly positioned in terms of location and value.
Right on a quiet stretch of powdery white beach. Sunset facing (and they were spectacular). Beautiful gardens. Friendly staff. Airport transfer included. Just a couple of km to central Labuan Bajo (5-8 mins). Motorbike rental available onsite or a taxi is 100 IDR. The rooms are basic but comfortable, clean and a good size. Pool was nice and warm. I'm genuinely glad I choose to stay at Luwansa and didn't stay in town.
The only criticism would be the price of drinks - 2 small Bintang and 1 fruit juice cost 218k IDR. A bit steep in my opinion and compared to other bars and hotels we visited.
- Peruloveaffair (10/5): Great bang for the buck - Great Value with breakfast and a pool. Spacious room Mimi fridge air in and large bathroom. Very relaxing atmosphere only 3km away from town. Walkable in great sidewalks.. Some maintenance needed in pool but otherwise solid value
- GoToKomodoTours (10/5): Holiday - Luwansa Beach Resort is one of the best option to stay in Labuan Bajo, Comfortable room, excellent service, all staff were friendly and helpful, also they provide free return airport transfer, this hotel is really recommended,Thank You.
- alexa0108 (10/5): nice staying - thank you for the best service .. the reception was so helpful and friendly.
comfortablem room .
and thank you for Mr. Alit, who welcoming us in the lobby.. very friendlyyyy.. !!
for the breakfast maybe can add more variant ..
hope can see u all again.. best future ❤️
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very friendly people there and the food was good. I walked to the city, takes about 45 minutes once.
- 530kmg (6/5): Not as described - Stayed as adult family of 4 with two rooms, which were upgraded to 'villas' on our arrival (I think because its low season and the place was quiet). The plus points for Luwansa are: comfortable rooms (in the villas), clean, nice gardens, good location (out of hustle of town), good transport into town, free airport transfers. The poor points: the pool looked positively unsanitary and we only saw it being cleaned/treated once in a 5 day stay. Pool is shallow and very warm - a great combination for bacteria! The beach is NOT as shown in the photos - at low tide its more of mud flat than beach and the rubbish is awful. I love to walk on a beach but only did this once briefly here. The "super high speed wifi" is only available in the restaurant and its not high speed! The food options are limited and with 3 of us requiring GF food, this was not really accommodated -little interest shown in finding something for us. No eco-friendly drinking water options ie bottled water only and no aqua-jug for refills (unlike a lot of places we found here). And finally....a small point but weird...the tea bags provided in the room were all inside a 'Liptons' paper sleeve, but were not Liptons tea! Someone has to go to the bother of replacing the Liptons with the local tea bag! Why bother - just give us the local stuff, who cares?!!
- whitneyk192 (4/5): Stay away... - If you’ve seen this property on hotels.com, expedia, etc. they say they have 2 bars/lounges, a swim up bar, 24 hour room service, an indoor pool, coffee shop, snack bar and barbeque grills and they don’t have any of these things. If you plan to have a cocktail or two on your vacation you won’t be able to get one here nor any of the other amenities I mentioned. The do call the restaurant “Komodo Bar” but it was out of stock entirely my entire stay while I had no problem getting a beer at any other restaurant or hotel in town. Also, it is about a 15 minute drive from Labuan Bajo town where you will need to go if you want to do a Komodo Tour, dive, snorkel, have dinner or drinks. They have a free shuttle from 7:00 am – 6:00 pm but you will need to be in town before that for any boats going to Komodo, diving or snorkeling and will be in town later than that for dinner so you will end up paying a lot more for their shuttle to and from town than if you just spend a few more rupiah to stay at a nicer place that is already in town. You will spend 100,000 rupiah for every trip to town and for less, you can stay at a nicer place that is already in town and close to the Komodo, dive, snorkel, dining, music fun. Restaurant food wasn’t bad but it is swarming with flies so if you order, you may want to have it in your room although cockroaches are an issue there. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend anyone stay here. It is managed really, really poorly.

- Junglehike (10/5): Need to air the bathroom - Nice hotel, short stay for us. Clean and good breakfast near the beach. Nice garden, but the bathroom is pretty closed up so it does get hot as there is no flowing air. Perhaps they can fix this. Very good stay, clean and modern. A bit far to downtown.
We got a room facing the beach and we saw the sunset.
- Y2724TTmartinas (2/5): Plastik beach - the hotel is ok.
the bed was big and really nice.
wifi only worked at the reception and half of the time it did not work.
But the beach in front of the swimming pool was completely covered in garbage and plastic.
There were so many people from the stuff sitting around in the restaurant and in the lobby and being bored, on Facebook and What's app. But no one would clean the beach and pick up all the plastic and garbage. I know that tourism is also a part of the garbage problem in Indonesia, but in a place, were tourist pay for being on the beach I expect, that the hotelmanager asks his stuff to clean it!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Dirty sheets and towels.
Messaged and emailed the hotel weeks in advanced and two days prior to let them know the number of travelers and hence room configuration. Never heard back and nothing was ready when we arrived so they needed to add extra beds in the room and charge us for it.
Woke up in the middle of the night, turned on a small light and bed was full of bugs and cockroaches came out. My wife was completely bitten by who knows what insects throughout the night.
Sheets and towels (which we had to ask for) were stained.
- Sebastian (6/5): Ok stay , reasonable price . - We received an complimentary upgrade to a villa , which was a nice surprise . The staff were very friendly and helpful. The villa room was nice, spacious and had a nice view of the sea.
Breakfast was average and there was an egg station and buffet food. The music played at breakfast was not good and really ruined the experience .
We didn’t go in the pool as it was not very clean , which was disappointing.
Overall an ok stay, but definite room for improvement .
- Jesper (8/5): Nice and clean hotel with boring & expensive food - Nice and clean hotel with a beautiful sunset view. Staff is fantastic and value vs price is excellent. The breakfast is very boring and the food quality is below expectations, and way to expensive.
- Anni (6/5): - Outside town, pool bar under construction, beach lonely and dirty
- NS (2/5): Lovely but beware of theft from room! - Great location on beach, warm sea but not much in the local vicinity. Staff are friendly and free shuttle as and when you need to Lubuan Bajo town is offered, dependent on availability. Although the hotel seems fairly new, the rooms are a little dated. The sea view villas/rooms are preferable with unobstructed views of the beach, pool and sea.
However we cannot recommend this hotel - had a substantial amount of cash stolen from the locked room safe. The friendly manager, Sigit, kindly took us to the police station to make a report on his day off, however I fear he has not taken the incident seriously or done any follow up. Despite his promises, he did not contact us again after we checked out, and has not responded to our emails/calls. He confirmed there was no CCTV and it seems quite possible that staff have access to the safe master key - if staying here be very careful. Given that it's a "beach resort" and you'll often find yourselves out of the room for substantial periods of time and not wanting to carry all valuables eg when on boats/diving and swimming this is a very substantial problem. It's a real shame as there's lots to like about the rest of the hotel and staff were mostly very helpful.
- annie (6/5): - It was okay. It was not worth the price i paid for it. They don't even have wifi in the rooms and the shower water was cold.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good service but no wifi in rooms - Overall it was a nice stay but frustrating when we wanted to use the wifi. We had to sit in the lobby or at the cafe.
- Maren Skullerud (6/5): Ok for one night - Hotel pickup from the airport was half an hour late, but check in was fast and easy. The room was spacious and clean, but the pool was closed because of maintenance. The breakfast did not have many things to choose from, mainly bread, egg and jam. The hotel was a little far away from the center, but it had free transport and the area was very quiet. Wifi only in reception area.
Kamar bersih , Dan sangat nyaman
Kamar mandi shower tanpa bathtub
- Eeva (6/5): Clean hotel, dirty pool and overpriced restaurant. - Hotel itself was nice, very clean. Room was big and had everything one would need for the stay.
I would not stay here again tho because of high price you would expect some sort of value for money but:
Pool was dirty and the sunchairs were from last century. Restaurant was way too expensive for being such remote location. Paying for bintang 66000 is way overpriced and restaurant would not give me my change correct. When you pay 22% Tax of beer you usually want your money back.
Airport pickup on arrival was perfect but when I booked for departure, they forgot and were leaving to airport without me. So not really on point.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice, comfortable rooms; beachfront view - We stayed two nonconsecutive nights with a short excursion in between (hotel stored our luggage). The first room we were given, in one of the villas, was huge with a comfortable bed and easy access to the pool and restaurant. The one downside was that it was mildly infested with millipedes (probably harmless but we did not want them in bed with us). The second room was in the main hotel building, less enormous but still plenty spacious. Hotel staff was somewhat disorganized in arranging our shuttle to the airport and in turning off the running water one evening for repairs (!) The pool and restaurant area have a lovely ocean/sunset view, though the ocean water is too shallow and muddy to make the beach good for swimming. The restaurant was quite expensive by Indonesian standards, but had pretty good food. There are no other restaurants in the neighborhood so you need to take the (free) shuttle to the main Labuan Bajo town if you want to eat elsewhere.
- Chi Kin (8/5): - The staff member with the best English skills is actually one of their drivers. Their "front desk manager" tried to pick us up in town for IDR 100,000 which was about 3 minutes before their shuttle picked us up !
- Ramon (6/5): Luces y sombras - Bueno:
- Clover (8/5): Nice hotel with beautiful sunset view - i stayed there for 2 nights. First impression was very good as it was the resort / villa kind of feel which I liked. However, it was not located close to town but luckily they provided free shuttle service from 7am-8pm (only to town, other areas one-way will be charged at Rp 50,000). You could arrange a time for them to pick you up at a location back to the hotel, but there was once the driver forgot to pick us up and we called the hotel after waiting for 15 minutes. Alternatively, you may borrow a phone from any restaurants to call the hotel when you wish to go back. Their airport transfer is free as well. The most amazing thing about this resort is their private beach has a nice view of the sunset. The staff were friendly and they would recommend us the places we can go.
- Joshua (6/5): Far from town - Far away from the town so you will be reliant on there shuttle service which was hard to get a hold of sometimes. Wifi did not work both days we stayed. Has nice views of bay and good sunset views. Access to beach but we didn't go.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Goed hotel met zeer vriendelijk personeel. - Prima hotel naar de maatstaven van Flores. Zeer vriendelijk personeel. Enig minpunt: Zwembad wordt matig gezuiverd helaas.
- Howard (6/5): Ok, for labuan bajo. - Nice set up, but staff are noisy in the early morning by the rooms waking up the guests.
Shuttle pick up is difficult to arrange but drivers are really good.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice quiet hotel - A bit out of the way, but very relaxing.
Staff were very helpful.
Worth a visit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Muy Recomendable - Realmente perfecto.
- Inge (8/5): It cut be better - The staff in komodo beach bar was very frindly..
- Nils (8/5): Nice beach side hotel - Decent hotel, good value for money, beach is on the dirty side
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK Hotel, but not worth the money - The theme of my stay here centered on the amenities promised were either missing or disappointing. They hotel itself is ok, the rooms are nice, but the rest of the hotel is lacking. The pool was closed the days I was there, the coffee shop is almost never open, and the restaurant is most just tables at the bar. This place is a ways away from anything else, but then does not have the services to make you want to stay at the hotel. The shuttle into town was nice and the beach in front of the hotel is nice. Overall the hotel feels like it wants to be a luxury resort, but does not want to put that extra effort into making the amenities of a luxury resort present. This is a good hotel, but it did not stand out as a great hotel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great sunset view from
Hotel bar out back
- Mark (10/5): - Used this hotel as a jumping off point for seeing the Dragons. We took 2 day trips one to Rinca and one to Komodo.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Rooms, Friendly Staff - Overall our stay at Luwansa was great. There were some problems when I tried to arrange the free airport transportation, when a staff member who didn't speak English answered the phone and then hung up on me. He also wouldn't pick up on a second call when I asked someone who spoke the language to call back. Also, although free rides to town were offered, we were told that we could only have one per day. This wasn't really a problem, but since the hotel is far from town, it might be for other travelers. Overall, though, the staff was great and the room was superb. Breakfast and Dinner in the restaurant were good. Nice sunset view from the beach.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Hummm - Overall good - quick service and ready to help. Quite shock initially with the 21% service and tax when they keep on bringing cold food with almost nothing on it. This was a big turndown. We are really not into breakfast but it is undoubtebly a really bad one we got. Now having said that, the sunset was literally one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Just breath taking - even better than Langkawi as we were almost alone on the beach front. So nice staff, great location but quite poor food... maybe a microwave might help! :-)
- Arlene (8/5): - Far from town, but they have a car that can take you there for free. Free hotel pick from the. Airport or harbor . Big clean rooms, quiet location. The only thing I thought was rude was ... 9 am. Call from front desk .. Are you checking out today? " yes" 10 am .. Call from front desk .. What time are you leaving ?... Umm now? ... If check out time is noon... Why do you have to keep asking me ??
- N Siregar (8/5): Great services - The hotel is clean and comfortable. This is not a luxury hotel, however they provide such a great service. It is the service that differentiates this hotel from the rest.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Very good option money/value - The hotel is very clean, comfortable and compared to many other in Lubuan Bajo it is a great offer for your money. It is a bit distant from city center, but they offer a free shuttle so there should be no problem. The pool is really nice and the staff is very cordial. The only problem, but this isnt the hotel only, there is no fast internet anywhere in Flores, it is less than 0.5mB,so dont go if you need to be connecte!! Otherwise, I highly recommend it.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean, quiet and very spacious rooms! - I loved staying here bc its clean and comfortable, definitely one of the best in all of flores island. Breakfast is not the best, but at least its included. I highly recommend it!
- Betty (8/5): Very gracious and helpful staff - The entire staff of Luwansa Beach Hotel were very helpful when we needed it. Since the hotel is a ways from Labuan Bajo proper, the hotel offers free drop off/pick up in the town. Just make sure you have the right phone number before you leave.
The villas are very comfortable with a door opening out toward the ocean. However, if you want wifi, you must go up to the main lobby to stay connected. The individual rooms in the hotel have every comfort of the villas and you have better internet connection up at the hotel.
We two senior ladies couldn't have had better in Labuan Bajo!
- Sethamy (10/5): Great stay pre liveaboard - Where else in the world do you stay where the hotel is happy to provide free shuttle to and from the city center? Here is where! This is your gateway to the liveaboard ships and your Komodo islands. The hotel is cozy with large clean rooms and a fantastic staff. Super accommodating.
