• ANGELA (10/5): An oasis of calm - Elmina Bay was excellent- the rooms and amenities were very clean. The food was extremely fresh and good. The staff were friendly with only a couple of exceptions- nothing was too much for our comfort. The owner was helpful and obliging- the pool was cleaned every day and was big. There was a steady trickle of guests but the atmosphere was serene and peaceful- good for us. Some aspects were a little tired ( Sun loungers/ relaxing areas) but the towels were large and thick. We would stay again if we were in the area.

The grounds were well lit and the entire landscape was amazing. The ocean view was awesome. The service was great, staff were very polite, helpful, and extremely professional. Truly an enjoyable stay and will love to return for a longer stay.

The food at the hotel restaurant is perfect ( very well cooked and varied local cuisine). Really a fantastic place to spend the weekend!
• Verified traveler (6/5): Potential for improvement - I would like to appreciate the owner of the place for the big effort he is doing to keep the property in good shape and functional. The environment is amazing because of the location in front of the sea. The swimming-pull is big and clean but one side was empty. The rooms are big and spacious with good ac and a lot of sockets to connect many devices, there is a balcony with perfect sea view but is necessary some repairs. The service is the problem here, I realized that they are doing their best but in terms of tourism that is not enough, there is not life at the place, for sleeping and relaxing is ok but to enjoying I don’t think so after 6 pm everything is dark and absolute silent, no music, no activities. The breakfast was good. Was not pizza or burger available.

• Verified traveler (10/5): - It has been a very pleasant stay. Hotel + home = hometel. From beginning to end our needs have been taken care of. The hotel is spaciously laid out so you don't feel cramped or in anybody else's space. The rooms are clean and the menu has a good selection. The quiet season maybe a good time to do some maintenance on the wooden deck chairs. The owner is very knowledgeable and welcoming I would absolutely return.
• Per (10/5): Family of 4 strongly recommend Elmina Bay Resort - After long flight delays (Tamale-Accra-Takordi) we arrived to the airport late, however the shuttle service provided by the resort were waiting for us and drove us to the hotel (+2h), where we were warmly welcomed by Ben (the manager) and his staff. We were quickly taken to our rooms, where staff waited for pre-ordering late dinner, which we soon enjoyed at the restaurant all by ourselves with the sea breeze as background. The Resort was more than we expected; very large and clean rooms/beds, with the pool right outside our room. We had the pool area for our self, with good service of drinks at the poolside. There is a stone barrier right outside the Resort, such we had to walk about 150 meters along the shore to get to the beach, where we could swim, however strong currents and some trash in the water made us somewhat reluctantly in taking long swim/sunbathing at the sea. We spent most of our time relaxing at the pool. We took one trip to Cape Coast where we took the castle tour, shopped souvenirs and dinned. At dark we escaped the overly close sales people by jumping into a taxi (after first negotiating the price) and went back to our Resort. The roads coming into the resort is really in poor shape; hopefully the roads will get fixed one day; at which time we think this resort will be much more utilized; now it seems to be a hidden and remote jewel. We are a family of 4 from Sweden, visited on Dec 21-24, 2019; and we strongly recommend the Elmina Bay Resort
• Jeremy (10/5): Beautiful, Comfortable, and Peaceful - Elmina Bay is a beautiful resort that is far from the business of Elmina and other towns. It’s very peaceful and relaxing just to be there and it feels very safe. The service is good, with the restaurant right on the ocean with open air walls. One thing to note is that although the resort is directly on the ocean, there is a large rock barrier that protects it from the ocean, which is nice to walk on and the waves crash against it. To swim in the ocean is just a 200 yard walk though. I also went for a run towards the beach and kept going for a few miles - it is beautiful! There are local fishing villages not far away and a few lakes with wildlife. Overall I would definitely recommend Elmina Bay to anyone who wants to be near Elmina or Cape Coast (8 minute and 20 minute drive respectively), but wants a peaceful sanctuary to come home to and relax in.

• Christine (10/5): Great resort right on the beach! - I had a fantastic 2-day stay at Elmna Bay Resort, and hope to go back again! The rooms were large, and the air-conditioning with a ceiling fan made the room temperature very comfortable. The room's balcony overlooked the sea, as well as the pool. The restaurant has a good selection of food, much more than is on their website, with lots of fresh seafood. They ask you to pre-order and let them know what time you want to eat, Top tip- eat early at 6 pm and you can enjoy your dinner to the fabulous sunset. The staff and the owner were very helpful and friendly. From the hotel, you can also walk a bit past the seawall to the beach and enjoy some wave watching.

• Verified traveler (6/5): So so with high prices - Unfortunately, due to the lack of real high end options in the area, hotels in this region will usually charge top tier prices for less than average services. The room was clean, but the towels had a faint smell of mold and toilets smelled bad (as if they were not properly disinfected). Breakfast was very bad both in quality and in variety.

• Verified traveler (10/5): - From the moment we arrived this plane is impressive. It's simply beautiful to see. The accommodations are very nice. The staff is very attentive and helpful. The food is quite good although it was disappointing when a number of menu items are not available and you have to settle for your second or third choice. We will definitely come back again for another visit and bring the family too.
• Joy (10/5): - This is a stunning setting, on the edge of a roaring ocean. It's too rough for swimming, but the pool is warm and perfectly maintained. With an attentive and marvelously hospitable staff, it's an ideal base for a half days at Cape Coast and Elmina. It's a bit removed from the towns, on rough roads, so when you return from the tours, it becomes your retreat. The full-service restaurant excels at Ghanaian food and dessert.

The hotel is located 4 km down a road in very poor condition. Our driver was not impressed and nor were we. We realized roads are not the resort responsibility but it was a negative experience. The resort was very quiet, only one other couple staying. There is no beach at the resort which was a downfall. Next time we would stay in another location.

They should have spread the rooms before we got there to prevent the red aunt for coming into the room. The food was good and the service of the staff very good. • Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall, i had a good stay, but found it not what I was expecting for the price . If you’re looking for high end, consider someplace else. Having said that, the Ghanaian owner went out of his way at every step to make my trip easy and now smooth: arranged transportation to kakum forest, for an in room massage, and was quite friendly and always around. The restaurant staff was friendly and served up a VERY tasty grouper in garlic sauce and the ocean view was great. The hotel could definitely use some updating but the entire experience was overall good.
• S (4/5): Not what we expected!! - The staff at this hotel are extremely nice, and the home-cooked food is fantastic! This is where the positive review stops, unfortunately. Our room was spacious but not very clean. I can’t tell when the balcony doors were ever washed, there are cobwebs in the corners and the bedside lampshades. Air conditioning doesn’t work continually. The tv didn’t work at all. We were there to relax, and we certainly got that opportunity because we were the only guests - so no music, no socialising, no tv and in bed by 8! Good thing my husband and I enjoy each other’s company lol! The whole of the hotel requires maintenance and thorough cleaning, hopefully receiving more guests, and reinvesting. Sad because it is in a nice position, but for now I would recommend Coconut Bay Resort not far away.
• Mel (6/5): Comfortable Beach Hotel in Elmina - This was my third stay at Elmina Bay Resort. All things considered, it is a good place to stay. With a few improvements, it would be great. First fix the air conditioning problems. It's been an issue during all three of my stays. This time, my daughter's a/c remote at first would not get the temp below 24 C, which is too warm, tho she got it to work the second night. Mine had no remote, and was fixed at 19 C, which got too cold in the night. There were double sheets on the bed, but no blanket until the second night. The swimming pool has two parts, one of which doesn't have water in it, a safety hazard. And it looks stupid. You shouldn't have to ask for towels. They should arrive automatically shortly after you do, or be kept in poolside baskets. Second night was busy and the restaurant was understaffed. It took 1.5 hours to get our food. To be fair, the waiter tried to get us to pre-order at 5:00, but we weren't ready to decide. Also an upgrade of the dining room is in order, with more comfortable attractive seating, ceiling fans, lighting. One thing this visit was really offensive:.loud, bad music played by the pool. It was playing when we arrived back and the manager played dumb when I asked about it. I came back a few minutes later to tell him it was intolerable. Really, I was ready to leave. We compromised in turning it down. It still ruined my afternoon swim. Finally stopped at 8 pm.

Food is also good. The sunset at the swimming-pool is great. It is a pity that now there is a breakwater in front of the hotel instead of the beach (erosion) For the price we could have had a "real coffee" for breakfast and not a Nescafe... Overall we had a very good week end.

Owner was apologetic, but still did not compensate as most US establishments would for problems and inconvenience. I reserved three rooms through Expedia. I have completed each survey and none have been registered. Not sure this one will since it is not a glowing statement. Strange.
• Tim (6/5): Good Potential, just not quite there... - Isolated location, you will need transport to go anywhere. The WIFI was poor and TV only had 1 channel. Air con did not work but I was quickly relocated to another room that night.The property was nice and has potential to be excellent however, it just isn't there yet.

Not worth it!! - If you are arriving late and leaving early, and everywhere else is fully booked and you are in desperate need for a clean room with aircondition AND you are bringing your own food - this could be it. Absolutely not worth the money. Maybe if the price had been 1/3 of what we paid (around 100 US for 1 night).. The 'restaurant' and food was so bad, I chose to go to bed hungry. My boyfriend ordered burger, and got a toast-like-sandwich on cheap white bread with 'some kind' of meat. It was disgusting and had we been in any other country, we wouldnt have paid a penny. I feel bad for the owner, who seems like a good man (met him while checking out). Somehow along the way he has completely missed the point of having a "resort" - creating an atmosphere. There was nothing besides buildings on a location. No energy, no vibe, no music, no light and nothing you would like to do here. After a 4 hour drive on bumby roads, I had looked forward to a nice dinner overlooking the sea. At least we had a good laugh about it. The place has potential (location is good and condition of the buildings), but as it is today - it´s definitel NOT a resort. We booked it because all the other resorts was fully booked and we decided to take an impulsive trip to Cape Coast and wanted to treat ourselves... I would rather have stayed at a local guest house and at least got an authentic experience.
• M.R. (4/5): Nice hotel in need of lots of maintenance - The hotel has a good name and the proprietor is a serious man, looking after his guests. However, the place is currently in need of a lot of maintenance, with the swimming pool out of order and rooms suffering from lots of minor defects. For the modern traveler a decided let-down is that the advertised WiFi is not working at all. The alternative mobile connection through your phone is no alternative either, because the signal does not reach beyond reception. For business travellers like me this is an absolute no go. Currently there is a new general manager appointed with a track record in the area and the type of hotel concerned. I have confidence he will be able to turn things around in due time. Investments in money, time and personal commitment by management and staff are absolutely necessary. For the moment, however, there is no value for money here. I moved to the neighbours.

• Nicola (10/5): Perfect beachside spot - A lovely hotel in a secluded location, with all rooms overlooking the beach and sea. The owner was incredibly helpful and friendly and the service from the staff could not be faulted. The hotel is in a quiet spot but has the hustle and bustle of Elmina on its doorstep. If you are looking for a quiet getaway then I would certainly recommend!
• Verified traveler (6/5): - There were several bugs and 2 lizards in our room. The hotel is located several miles off a bumpy dirt road. There is no way it can be located without assistance.
• Cynthia (8/5): Great staff, beautiful scenery. - The only reason Elmina Bay Resort does not get 10 out of 10 stars is that the bridge to Elmina is still closed so you have to take a detour over some very bumpy roads to get here. Once you are here though, you won't want to leave it. The view from the rooms are exceptional, the food in the restaurant is excellent and the range of dishes is great. The pool is outstanding. Everything about the service here is top rate. Good bird-watching opportunities on the property as well.
