Guest Reviews
- Stefania (4/5): Not worth the money, better pay a bit more and stay somewhere nice. - The place was kept clean. Although toilets and showers were common, they were always very clean.
The location is very good and central, with many restaurants, coffee places, and supermarkets nearby. The room was unhygienic and had a strong, unpleasant odor. The presence of mold made it feel unsafe to stay.
I would absolutely never stay there again. Although it was clean in terms of daily cleaning, the place absolutely needs a complete renovation or something to be done with the mold. It didn't feel safe to stay.
Also, the furniture inside the bed are almost ready to break down.
Also, I was asked to make a card deposit at my arrival, which I was not aware of! Not cool at all since it was not written anywhere and I was not informed neither with an e-mail or a booking.com message.
It has been almost a month since I checked out and still haven't received it back in my card.
- Zibon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Turkson (6/5): Your services are good - The services of one Mr MIN was excellent. But most importantly I have not received my refund of 150dollars I have not received my refund of 150 dillars
- Eloka (6/5): Pleasant -
- Julia (9/5): Lowest rates you can find in the middle of downtown Toronto -
- Eloka (5/5): Fantastic location; great staff, good for a very brief stay - Location was fantastic, staff were courteous. Facility was clean. The room had just one window, so it’s pretty hot in summer. The bed had steel springs inside, very uncomfortable, I had pains on my arm and shoulder after my first night.
- Ayomide (1/5): Bad - They took my money and didn’t check me in, they didn’t refund me and also didn’t return my deposit.
- Puneet (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katla (8/5): Very good -
- Brendan (6/5): Pleasant - The location is great for downtown and it is what it sells itself as, cheap and not really a hotel. It's worth a stay if you're on a tight budget and want someone accessible to downtown. It's very close to a subway stop if you have baggage. The rooms are very hot and stuffy but there is a large fan in the room.
Breakfast is very disappointing and I would recommend skipping as its 5 items most of which are sweet north american style breads.
- Serhii (10/5): Exceptional - There is a shower with a hose in the basement. For some reason it is hard to find a shower with a hose in Canada o_O
- Valerio (9/5): Superb -
- Fernanda (8/5): Very good - The staff was amazing, super kind and always ready to help. Breakfast was also good. The private room was old, but still nice, big and comfortable. The room wasn’t really soundproof so you can hear people walking outside your door and the doors closing.
- Busra (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (9/5): Good - Great location. Easy to leave bags. Smooth check in and check out Bathroom was out of order so inconvenient to use other side.
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bruno (10/5): Exceptional -
- Manman (7/5): Good -
- Gandhi (10/5): Awesome stay - Good staff. Great hospitality and support.
- Syed (5/5): Passable -
- Anonymous (10/5): I enjoyed my stay and it was quiet. - Very convenient location. Nothing
- Norm (9/5): Good to stay at - Breakfast No hangers in the room,, someone was yelling in the middle of the night..
- Chernloong (8/5): Overall it’s good at it’s reasonable price - Good location, responsive, 24 hours available None
- Anonymous (5/5): O.k - No air conditing
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good - Excellent
- Jason (7/5): Ok if you are a poor student - Cheap enough place for a night or 2. Clean bathroom, common area and kitchen. Ok for a “free breakfast” to grab some snacks for your day. Had good security and close to a large supermarket No vibe because it is just poor student housing. Bed was too small and I am short. Elevators take ages.
- Ron (4/5): A great low cost hotel to basically rest your head - The price was amazing. If you tamper expectations you may find this hotel to be a legitimate alternative to paying exorbitant summer pricing. If you only need a place to rest your head for 8 hours then this may be a solution to your needs.
It was very clean....there was zero noise, and the staff located me directly across from the bathroom and shower facilities.
The room was very warm, but a fan was supplied.
Bring a lap top or cell phone as it will be the only source of entertainment you will have as there are no TV or radio available.
Since I was out till midnight, the room was all I really needed and I would consider this hotel in future for solo accommodations.
The 11am check out was handy and next time I will try the complimtary breakfast offering.
Location is good and reasonably safe, friendly and helpful staff greeted me on arrival and departure.
Excellent option for those on a tight budget.
No bells and whistles....if you want that in Toronto's busy summer season expect to pay at least 7 times what this hotel charges. The only inconvenience I can think of was that the old fashioned door keys were finicky and you needed to fiddle with them to get the door opened.
- Kaur (7/5): Good -
- Petrena (5/5): Facilities clean. No access to any facilities to heat cook or have coffee - Location
Breakfast No access to facilities to boil kettle
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Everyone was nice and kind.
- Wes (8/5): Very good - Bed was comfortable. Breakfast included was a nice surprise. No A/C in room. No hand towels or face cloths, just a bath towel.
- Zuhaib (1/5): Horrible - Nothing except location In the midnight somebody opened my room lock with other key having the same room number as i have booked the entire room.
I shocked up and couldn’t sleep. It was a nightmare for me. I never had this bad experience before.
- Reuben (5/5): Okay on a budget - The staff were excellent, especially Ellie and her colleague who's name I didn't catch. So friendly and helpful.
The room was clean and the location was great. Would stay again as a solo traveller. Absolutely no frills at all- be warned.
Things that would easily make the stay better: a mirror in the room, a fan that doesn't turn itself around from the vibrations and isn't the sound of a plane taking off. A sign that explains how to lock the door (I couldn't figure it out and had to ask a staff member to show me), hand wash in the bathroom, a toilet brush, some fruit or yogurt at breakfast rather than all dry carbs, 2 pillows rather than one very flat one, a lamp/ light source that isn't just the big light.
- Bed (1/5): Very bad experience but reception staffs were helpful. - I was told by the staff in the morning that If I make a cash deposit for security, I will not get back the security money.
No where in the world, the security money is confiscated.
However the staffs were helpful.
The hotel management was extremely bad.
- Amanda (6/5): Not too bad for a short stay - It's essentially a student room in university halls, but has all you need, including a bed and desk and space to hang up clothes. The privacy aspect was nice, and the WiFi was decent (I was able to carry out an online job interview with no interruptions or loud noises). Shared bathrooms were clean and vacant when needed. The location wasn't too bad; approximately a 5-10 min walk from nearest bus stop / train station / supermarket. Lovely and helpful staff at the front desk. The breakfast was quite lacklustre, and only consisted of bagels and muffins. You are also only limited to 5 items, including a cup of tea or coffee. There's nil utensils in the shared dormitory kitchens, so you can't cook or heat up your own food. I also thought the refundable security deposit of $150 was very steep, especially since I was only staying for one night, and it was more than the room actually cost me!
- Sumalinog (6/5): Pleasant -
- Clifford (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good - The location and the staff hospitality, the roof top deck view at night quality of beds and in bathrooms some things were not working. We stayed on 7th floor C suiteOverall it was fine but it could have been very good.
- Atianeere (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deniz (10/5): Exceptional - Very value for money , good breakfast, good location Old building
- Anonymous (3/5): Poor -
- Geert (8/5): Affordable student accomodation - Simple student accomodation, central in Toronto. Breakfast included, 24 reception, safe. Great staff. No airconditioner, but fan. Kitchen but no utensils. No microwave.
- Obeng (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (8/5): very pleasant budget option, best for solo travellers. - I stayed here before 2 years ago, and nothing has changed.
Its very basic but that is reflected in the price, the location is excellent, its great value for money.
A no thrills base to stay and get your head down, a decent breakfast is provided.
This is not for young families or those with a `peel me a grape` attitude towards life.
It does what it says on the tin, and very well. The lifts are a bit cumbersome but its a minor negative.
Some herbert took my coke bottle from the communal fridge, not the hotels fault though.
- Macwan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pacheco (5/5): Enough - It was my lack of attention, but no air conditioning during the summer is a terrible idea. Better to pay a little more to sleep better.
- Carolina (5/5): Missing basic appliances - La location No kitchen stuff, air conditioner, best condition about elevators.
- Gino (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yong (8/5): Very good -
- Celestino (8/5): Good Hotel - The host. Nothing
- Felix (4/5): No TV in rooms - No TV in rooms No TV in rooms
- Corey (8/5): Pearl of Downtown Toronto. Will be back! - Location, friendly staff, bathrooms cleaned daily, value breakfast, common areas and amenities. Ease of extending stay in the same room. Perfect solo stay. Room can get hot without a fan (which are available from reception at no extra fee), evening street noise.
- Wilson (8/5): Very good - Close to downtown I wished there were AC but it is not overbearingly hot
- Worawut (8/5): Good and affordable place to stay - The location is amazing It was quite warm during my stay.
- Lynne (9/5): Great staff, location and price - The staff were helpful, friendly, and just all-around wonderful! The 5 item breakfast included is also appreciated I wish the room had a lamp. One of is wanted to read later while the other wanted to go to sleep. This was truly our only (minimal) complaint.
- Speedyextra (7/5): Good -
- Jose (10/5): Exceptional - breakfast was good a lot of choices
- Patrick (8/5): the staff were very kind and attentive -
- Kahia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (7/5): Not fancy but functional - Good location clean and friendly staff Can get very warm. A fan is provided.
Extra pillows would be a nice option
- Jayto (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast included. Great location Bed not very comfortable
- Rowie (3/5): Poor -
- Claude (9/5): Appreciate my stay - 5 items for breakfast good,
Very good location Bed
- Christopher (9/5): Wycik Hotel/dorms - Close to everything, free breakfast, three roof top areas to hang out at,clean, quiet, inexpensive No A/C, just a fan, but I've stayed there before so I am used to it.
- Mulaisho (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mathews (9/5): Superb - Good reception good service at breakfast. Hard to open Door on 7c2 door should be fix, bathroom in front of 7c1, need maintenance, handle of shower comes off, sink robinetterie is loose and might break when using.
- Cla (5/5): Passable -
- Anonymous (4/5): I wanted to love this, but I couldn't find its charm. - Location is great. Not far from the "gay neighborhood." Walking distance to a lot of food options. The grocery store down the street was top-notch! Lots of prepared foods.
Busy street but quiet. No ambulance or police sirens all night long. I felt safe walking alone at night.
Breakfast is great. You get to select 5 items from quite a few items - water, juice, soda, pastries, yogurt, continental essentials. The staff serves you at the counter. The staff was really nice!
Check-in: pretty standard check-in. Check-in staff was very friendly.
Security was friendly and present 24/7. They check everyone's key tag as they enter.
Elevators all worked while I was there. I WANTED to love this place, but couldn't find its charm.
It's not a hotel, it's a hostel. Call it what it is.
Each single room has a bed, a desk, a fan (no air conditioning). No lamp. No clothes hangers.
You get a pillow (a really shoddy, lumpy one), sheets, a blanket, a bath towel, and a face towel. I think they left a bar of soap. I'll give you this, though - the mattress was comfy and I actually slept comfortably the entire night.
The doors stick very badly. Likely from lots of coats of paint. I had to really put my back into it to get my room door to close and lock.
The hallways were dirty (carpeted). They smelled a bit, worse in the evenings for some reason. The whole placed is quite aged.
No visitors after 11pm. I found this odd, considering I'm an adult and I paid for the room. I didn't have any late visitors, but I wanted to - I was visiting friends and it would have been nice to host them a bit into the evening.
They give you a LONG list of rules to follow. I got so lost in the rules, I checked out late and they charged me $40 without even trying to contact me. They said they were very busy and needed the room, yet housekeeping hadn't even been to my room yet. Regardless, I would have appreciated a phone call, at least.
The room floors (tile) were dirty. Looked like they hadn't been washed in some time. I noted that housekeeping didn't have mops with them. They had a cart with linens and basic cleaning supplies and that was all. No vacuum, no mop.
Kitchen and lounge are shared. They were clean, people cleaned up after themselves. But there were no dishes to eat on or utensils to cook with.
Bathrooms are shared. I didn't feel comfortable showering in a public shower that hadn't been cleaned between uses, so I only used the sink and toilet, which were fine.
- Brian (10/5): Great place for a great price - I love that it was right off Church Street, so within easy walking distance of the Village. Very convenient for the trip.
- Anonymous (10/5): Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Toronto! - I like how safe I felt in my stay. Both the security and the front desk were very helpful and always polite. I also enjoyed the breakfast variety. Thank you for giving me a positive experience :) I have no complaints!
- Reid (7/5): Good will still go back but be more cautious when I check in I have been coming for three years - Location and staff Room by deck 5 p 6 and people partied all night I requested a room on the Guérard street
- Kahia (10/5): Fun, amazing service and non judgemental loved it - Everything, the customer service was amazing Nothing
- Anonymous (9/5): I like it - It was quiet and accessible to move around They are friendly
- Ian (8/5): Very good - Safe and secure, close to Yonge street, free breakfast, restaurants around there, Small shower(but still ok for me)
- Ines (8/5): Very good -
- Jazz (7/5): Good - Value for money and location Can't complain much. This is what I paid for.
- Andrea (6/5): Downtown Toronto, student residence - Price for downtown Toronto It can’t get any more basic.
- Sherrah (5/5): Passable -
- Anonymous (3/5): Poor room wirh bad staff which was not that cheap. - It was in a fairly good location. The food was fairly poor it was large quantity but the muffin was frozen. The drinks were ok.
One of the staff at the reception was incredibly rude. After a 16 hour travel to the hotel she rolled her eyes when i forgot how to get to the room.
- Brianna (8/5): Good breakfast - The breakfast was good and the beds were comfy. Not really a hotel, the bathroom was separate from the room and the room had no bin. I thought the room layout was a bit weird too.
- Olga (9/5): Superb - Location is good. Very simple room but you have all you need. There was hot water as hot water in the shower (what I can’t say about it in Montreal in another hotel) Simple breakfast is included in price. It’s possible to check-in at night if you need it. We had an issue with the room deposit. It was declined by bank and I was ready to pay it in cash but there was one thing: you couldn’t get it back. That’s a very strange rule. If you PAY it by cash you expect to get it back, it’s even called a deposit but basically it’s extra money to your check. If you pay it by card that’s okay, you’ll get it back. But nobody wants and expects that will be technical issues with the bank. But this may happen. All this was in the middle of the night. I asked if we could just check-in and solve this in the morning (we gonna stay several nights) but we refused according to another rule: you can’t check-in without this deposit even if your room is already prepaid. Kinda ridiculous situation
- Deokjin (9/5): Superb -
- Isaac (9/5): Superb -
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Kaitlyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Katherine (1/5): Bad - We came for 10 minutes, booked a room and went to view it. We were told if we didn't like it he would just refund it. Upon review it felt unsafe, small, and unsatisfactory. We decided not to stay there. Still no refund.
- Moawia (7/5): Good -
- Patricia (7/5): Great to find a modest hotel at $100, even less if booked early, even with short comings. - Friendly, competent staff. Room very clean but sparse, "H" door did not close unless one pushed it; being a single gal a touch unnerving. Bathroom again very clean, but no hot water in shower. Location may not be central, but it was fine. Breakfast staff also friendly/helpful; food good/plentiful. No hot water in shower. "H" door not closing unless pushed (perhaps some would not worry about closing it.
- John (8/5): Very good - Im a minimalist. I dont need much.
It was excellent for me.
I will definitely keep it in mind if I get a chance to return to Toronto.
I had stayed a decade ago over at King and Spadina in a shared kitchen/restroom situation - wish I had known about Wycik then.
Liked the laundry room. One machine was not working but was clearly marked - I always like clear communication. The shower stall 6D was tight space.
I can handle but I know many people would be concerned.
I didnt get to fully use kitchen since I was only for 1 night but the appliances seemed in working order.
I liked the laundry room but it appeared to work off cards. Modern convenience no longer deals in coin machines sadly.
The beds might be too firm for many but I like very firm. Yeah this is in the wrong category but I work with groups where I have to adjust to their preferences.
- Cassandra (8/5): Very good -
- Marek (8/5): Very good - Terrace on the 23rd floor with a beautiful view of the city Breakfast is too modest
- Labrecque (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sam (8/5): Very good -
- Harshpreet (9/5): Superb -
- Muriel (8/5): It was good - It was affordable
- Rod (5/5): This is more a backpackers hostel than a hotel. Not great value for money. - Closeness of restaurants. Downtown area a good 25 minute wlk to main attractions. B/f was small but sufficient. No room facilities at all apart from 2 fold up beds, thin old towels & small bar of soap each. No T/V, fridge, sink or even clothes hangers. They charge $15.00 to leave bags for short period after checkout (free everywhere else) & take a damage deposit of $159 on check in refundable with a few days.
- Nilofar (5/5): For the price, it was fine. - Safety, location, breakfast. Some staff are rude, especially those serving breakfast. They don't treat people respectfully.
The floor of my room was very dirty.
No hangers to hang clothes.
- Anonymous (4/5): Disappointing -
- Sofonias (7/5): Good -
