Guest Reviews
- Rong (7/5): - No reception on easy check in
- KevinB4164 (6/5): Inexpensive and unimpressive - It had a quaint European feel. Very small and the bed was more like a hammock. The front door was supposed to have a digital lock on it and it did not work at all. Anyone could walk in. The digital pad locks on the doors did not work right. I was locked out once and my colleague was locked out of his room twice. If you’re looking for a low budget place then this will work, but there are much nicer places to stay.
- Baptiste (1/5): -
- A4811THlouisa (10/5): Easy and Nice in a Great Location - Really great hotel in as good a location as you could ask for. The rooms are small but cozy with solid heating/cooling (I was there the weekend the “feels like” hit -20). Getting into the room and leaving was easy too, and hotel was in constant communication despite having no permanent front desk. Will definitely stay there again on my next trip.
- Beth (3/5): Will - Clean Cannot find front door- not at 147 1st ave- on st. Marks; entrance is dark and unsecure; hallway dark- door code is long- felt unsafe in time it took to enter, could not get the tv to recognize location on any of my apps after much trying; no deadbolt; no staff. Not as loud as last time (they leave complimentary ear plugs!), but not quiet. Would not have booked again but search for The Standard East Village was hijacked by the East Village Hotel.
- Harmohan (5/5): - Issues with microwave and sink faucet

- Leila Kelly (10/5): Great location for my visit purpose.staff was amazing - The great staff support was exceptional.
I called twice for support and was helped right away. Very satisfied. I would recommend
- Maps455156 (10/5): Excellent! Perfect location .. my go to hotel in NY from now on. - Excellent location, beautiful area, room is clean and stylish. Hotel staff are very responsive by phone. They were so helpful! Love the area!
- David (10/5): -
- Loralee (7/5): All in all the accommodation was acceptable and I think appropriate for short stays. - Location was excellent. Room was very small & all the stairs; however we were forewarned about both.
- Ilona (9/5): -
- Deborah (9/5): Charming, comfortable, and well priced. - Fluffy Turkish towels and soft bed linens!
Lovely toiletries and water pressure. #1 Room on 2nd Floor
-broken soap holder in shower
- no paper towels in the kitchen
- freezer is in bad shape; needs major defrosting!
- Brenan (10/5): - Great location, clean room.
- Mark (8/5): -
- April (8/5): - It was confusing at first as I had not received the check in email and there is no front desk but very responsive when I called. The room and bed were very comfortable. Street noise but ear pluges provided was a nice touch. Great stay all in all.
- Irene A. (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay at EVH. It was close to our son’s apartment as well as the subway and great restaurants. The area was totally safe and the staff we did see were very friendly. It was nice having a kitchenette. A suggestion would be to provide maybe some paper towels for the kitchen area or more than one kitchen towel.
- Carly (10/5): - Enjoyable stay comfortable room
- Melanie (10/5): - Very comfortable studio apartment type room.
- Alejandro (8/5): -
- Tom (10/5): - Love the location, and the hotel itself may be minimal but great value and surprisingly even includes a kitchen.
It basically just feels like a studio in the East Village, which is wonderful to experience.
- Walter (10/5): - Nice place clean rooms kitchenette is a good added benefit
- Noel (8/5): - My stay at the East Village Hotel was excellent - the room was quaint and very clean. If you want an experience in the Village of NYC, then the location cannot be beat.
The only negative I have is that if you want to store your luggage on the day of checkout, you either have to pay extra for a late check out or transport your luggage to another hotel ~ 1-1.5 miles away. This made for a tedious last day of my trip as it was raining and the other location was in the opposite direction of where I needed to be.
- Chad (8/5): - A wonderful, caring and accessible staff, and the showers . The room needed a deep clean.
- Jennifer (10/5): - This was the sweetest little hotel in the most perfect location. The contactless model was honestly very efficient and seamless. It’s basically like having your own tiny studio apartment in the East Village.
- Glenn (8/5): - Lighting in the stairways is inadequate. The stairs are narrow and need good lighting to make them safe
- PATRICIA (10/5): - Very helpful phone connection though nobody was there in person. Clean comfortable very adequate room.
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Apartment building style hotel in the East Village close to L and R/W.
- Laura (8/5): - The hotel was able to meet my request for a lower-floor room. The amenities in the room were fine, and the surroundings were relatively quiet. I had some trouble with the mini fridge. First I couldn’t get the door to stay shut, then after I got that worked out, it froze my foods.
I did have trouble with the door lock. It is a keypad and I always had to enter the code several times before I could get the door to open. That was frustrating.
- Tiffany (10/5): - Our daughter is at NYU so it was a great location. It is a little more work with no lobby and being able to leave your bags but we paid a great price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The toilet has problems flushing properly sometimes i had to unclog toilet a couple times.
Also one of the towels had a stain on them
- SrBruno (2/5): Loved the East village hotel - Couldn't have been happier with this hotel. Must be the best hotel value in NYC. Loved the location. Room was clean comfortable and updated. Bed was super comfortable, pillows were great, towels were thick and fluffy. Even has a little kitchenette. Good AC. My only complaint was not enough storage for clothes. Then I discovered the stage built into the bed. Suffice it to say, I would definitely recommend and return.
- ERIN (6/5): - There is no person on staff at the property and so when our room lock was broken we were locked out in the hallway for over an hour late at night. Other than that it’s a decent little inexpensive nyc stay.
- Kimberley (8/5): - Location was ideal.
- Nat (10/5): Hesitant but turned out great - I was hesitant about staying at a "no staff" hotel but it turned out there were minimal problems. I booked the early option ($30) but had to call to get the necessary codes for my Noon early checkin. Other than that, there were no problems. The staff (on the phone) were very nice. I entered the hotel off of 9th Street and it seemed a little questionable on the outside, but inside, everything was fine. My room on the 3rd floor was one of the nicest rooms I have stayed in during my many travels. There was a kitchenette with stove top, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher and dishes. The bed was very comfortable. I will stay here again. The only other issue is that they cannot store luggage - you have to take it to the Chelsea Pines Hotel, which is further away.
- K (10/5): - Lovely stay and would definitely come back
- John (8/5): - Very pleasant stay with many conveniences available!
- Briggite (10/5): - Muy lindo todo y muy limpio
- Martha (10/5): - I have stayed at EVH before and am always very pleased. The rooms and hotel are very clean and very well stocked in kitchen and bath. For me, the location is perfect
- Jennifer (10/5): - Small but well-designed and cute. The kitchenette was hugely useful. Location is fantastic — you could dine at cool places for two weeks within a two-block radius! There is some New York- style street noise, but with the blackout shades down and the A/C running, we slept like babies in the very comfortable bed.
- Kristin (8/5): - This is a no-contact hotel, so no reception desk, keys, etc. The room was clean, modern, and had good air conditioning. My room was on the 4th floor (no elevator), so I got my steps in. The primary downside was noise from 1st Avenue, though the property provided earplugs. I would consider staying there again.
- Meighan (10/5): - Enjoyed my stay! Lovely staff and great location!
Thank you!
- Samantha (10/5): - Loved this property. Housekeeping excellent. Great communication before hand about check in as it does not have a front desk. Easy to leave luggage on arrival and departure. Staff at sister hotel super lovely.
We chose this property for the kitchen. Was easy to make our own meals.
- Toshit (2/5): - There's no lift. The amenities aren't too good either. Stove doesn't work properly.
- Stacey (8/5): - Bath towels were really thin
- Kelly (10/5): - Clean
- Seanne (8/5): - Easy to use contactless option.
- Voyage481191 (10/5): Yes to the east side! - Excellent support in finding the hotel. Answered all of my questions. Loved the location. Great accommodations. Will definitely stay again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location, comfortable stay - Really enjoyed our stay here! Simple and small (like most rooms in NY) but had everything we needed and was in an amazing location. Bed might be a bit tight for two people but it’s comfy. The little kitchenette is a nice touch. Surprisingly super quiet for being right in the middle of the East Village as well. It’s a walk up with no elevator but if you don’t mind that, it’s a great place to be.
- Stacey (10/5): - Great location. Very comfortable. Surprisingly quiet
- Amy (10/5): - nice, reasonable , safe area. no lobby area to speak of... rooms perfectly fine..half the price of a hotel. worth it
- Francis (10/5): - Great location for us. Easy to get into.
- michael (8/5): - Chosen due proximity to a class.
- Yazmin (10/5): - Bed comfort, beauty, good kitchen.
A suggest: paper towels for kitchen
- Michael (6/5): - Liked the location. Very few hotels in the East Village. Small but had everything we needed.
Didn't like: I reported a broken hinge on the cabinet door under the kitchenette sink minutes after checking in for a 5 night stay. The door would fall off when we attempted to open it. It also kept the adjacent refrigerator door from closing properly and it would pop open spontaneously when we were gone for the day. The person we contacted said parts had to be ordered to fix the problem. It only needed 2 small screws but was never fixed during our stay.
Housekeeping entered our room when we had posted Do Not Disturb sign.
- Will (8/5): - I'll stay here again but I hope they've upgraded the bath towels, fixed the toilet and made the TV more than just a wall ornament. And, no, we didn't need the earplugs.
Overall, a great deal for a hotel in East Village.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - The experience was good for this price. The room is clean and has a kitchen. It is close to buses (M8), stores and restaurants. The cleaning ladies were nice and helpful. You have to finish online precheck in to get in, there is no front desk. The small lobby was hot, seems air conditioner was off. The room was noisy, from both air conditioner and the outside, however they provided earplugs which are helpful to me. The front door seems not always locked even it was late, which made us feel not that safe. The hotel has no elevators, could be hard if you get a high floor and have a big luggage.
- Claude (8/5): - Ac unit was very loud a night.
- Diana (6/5): Great location, fix locks, keep customer door locked after you clean!! - Location was perfect, close to my son’s apartment. The door lock was unreliable, it would not unlock until sometimes the 6th time I entered the code, I called and talked to an employee and they didn’t seem to care. Front door would also not unlock to exit until multiple times activating switch, dangerous if an emergency!!! One day the maid left my door OPEN after cleaning, not just unlocked but ajar!!! Not secure for single female.
- Ngayee (10/5): - Very convenient
- Claudette (10/5): - Everything about it was wonderful! Staff was communicative and always available. Only complaint is I wish it had an elevator. But otherwise, it was totally worth it, and I would absolutely stay again!
- Rylee (6/5): - The kitchen was great to have! Definitely wished there was a bigger bathroom
- Meghan (7/5): - Nicely set up Doors were difficult
- David (8/5): Enjoyable - Location
- Ngayee (10/5): - Very nice property. Super clean. Very good in communication. Kitchenette is very useful. The only minor negative comment is that the air conditioner is a little loud.
- Noble (10/5): - Great place to stay, thanks!
- Laura (7/5): Good - The staff were helpful.
The location was good.
- Sunni (8/5): - This little hotel was adorable! I would stay there again!
- Mark (10/5): - The hotel is very close to Stuy Town, which is a bustling area.
- Matt (10/5): - Easy check in and friendly staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Elbow Grease - Cute place but they can do so much more for not a lot of money. The place needs to be updated. Common area carpeting is filthy. Windows don’t lock. There’s a fire escape and anyone can easily break in.
- Amber (10/5): - We had a nice comfortable room. Would certainly return.
- Jonadiel (10/5): - It was really pretty and having a kitchen was the best. Thank you for everything
- Gretchen (8/5): - What I liked was the convenient location plus having a very small kitchen. The property is conveniently located. It was hard to find. The stairs are quite steep. The room is very small,
- smmenendez (10/5): Qaint room for quick stay - Quick weekend visit to Manhattan and the East Village Hotel was ideal! I'm a simple traveler so the no elevator and quaint room size didn't bother me at all. Wish I had the need for the luxurious kitchenette but will know its there for next time. The check-in communication was easy, door codes worked just fine. Location for me was ideal as daughter lives blocks away. Easy access to subway and all the East Village has to offer. Thank you EVH!
- Laura (10/5): - Great little spot in a safe feeling neighborhood. It even had basically a full kitchen, complete with a dishwasher, stove top and pots and pans. It was quiet (as quiet as NYC gets, anyway) but still convenient and the building and room were lovely. I would absolutely stay here again.
- zheng (6/5): - It was noisy, and I couldn't sleep for two nights.
- Michael (8/5): - The hotel was very clean, easily accessible, bright, well-maintained, and had a good air conditioner. Plus, it’s in a great neighborhood.
- Ge (8/5): - Clean hotel in great location.
Room is small but adequate.
Only drawback is the weak soundproofing, so noisy that hotel provide earplugs on nightstand.
- 257amic (10/5): Convenient location, comfy room - A comfortable, clean room. The air conditioner worked well. It was a quiet area of the city. Affordable!
Bed was comfy. Shower was nice.
Lots of restaurants in the area. Close to East river walk.
Win,win,win!
Will be booking this place again.
- Katie (10/5): - Great location. Has everything you need in a comfy studio sized room. Can be a little loud facing the street, but they provide earplugs in the room!
- Hildy (8/5): - Good location near Tompkins park. Easytouchless entry
- Cheryl (6/5): Clean and comfortable, but not for light sleepers - The location was great for us, and the decor was super cute with the brick wall and the queen size bed, and it was very clean, well laid out, plus the little kitchen was a bonus. AC worked well and was much appreciated as the weather was getting quite warm and humid. A few things were a little less pleasant. First, the towel bar in the bathroom of our unit was broken off, as was one of the hooks on the door. No big deal, since there was one working hook and another few hooks in the main room. Second, the shower curtain was made of cloth and just got soaking wet at the bottom of the shower. I don't know if they forgot to put a liner? Third, there was no fan in the bathroom, so it was hard to get dry in the steam. Lastly, and most importantly, our room was fronting 1st avenue, which was very loud, and then the room itself seems to not have any soundproofing. They offer free earplugs in the room, smartly, but even when my husband wore the earplugs, he couldn't ignore the sirens and such. I slept without the earplugs, and in addition to the sirens, it sounded like people were moving furniture in the room above us all night long. I couldn't figure out what they were doing! But yes, it probably would have been better with earplugs. I would do that next time, if we rented again.
- Dammann (2/5): Avoid - Check-in via laptop was not possible. The room was extremely loud and not clean.
- Margaret (8/5): I’d stay again. - This is a really good property. The room is quite small but it has everything you need. Great neighborhood too.
- GEORGE (6/5): - Basic room in dark and dingy hotel, with lingering cigarette smoke smell. Window would not stay open (we used hanger to keep open part way). Cheap blackout shade with broken pulls.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great hotel - Nice clean room with good facilities
Quite enough especially for New York
The air conditioning was quite noisy so couldn’t keep it on all night and it did get quite stuffy but overall a great place to stay
Communication was very good
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great location for East Village. - Great location in the East Village. It's a walk-up so you need to be able to climb stairs. This is an unstaffed hotel so the ever-present door code issues have to be handled by phone. Luckily someone always answers. Rooms are small which is typical for the area. Fine for a weekend stay. Our room needed some serious bathroom maintenance and cleaning. The glass shower door was hung wrong and ready to fall off.
- Lisa (10/5): - It was close to our daughters apartment
- Ami (10/5): Great location! - The room was clean and comfy.
It was perfect for our stay.
- David (6/5): - It was a small, but efficient room. Slightly dirty in the bathrooms upon arrival.
- Thomas (10/5): - Really good little property in a great location if you want to stay in the East Village. The kitchen was handy, bed comfortable, suprisingly very quiet even facing onto 1st Ave.
Was also very easy to get in contact with staff there even without any present on site. Just be aware there is no lift, however this was not a problem for me.
- Jim (10/5): - Great stay - great communication and in safe, convenient area. Replenishing of shampoo, etc for a multiple night stay is suggested.
- Taiz (10/5): - Really made you feel like you are a local
- Elisabeth (8/5): - I enjoyed the area the property was in. Despite being in the city, it wasn't extremely loud. The complimentary ear plugs were a nice touch. The only thing I wish it had was better curtains to block out the light at night, from the surrounding buildings and then early in the morning it was very bright in the room. I'm light sensitive and it's a bit difficult for me at times. Other than that, I enjoyed the room and thought it was clean and comfortable.
- Anastasia (8/5): Very good - The bed and the pillows.
Nice interior.
Many different restaurants and bars near the hotel. Dirty windows.
Sometimes the garbage was not cleaned.
