Guest Reviews
- nynnea2026 (6/5): Not so attentive to female customers - Rooms were nice, but very cold. Not as far from the city as it looks on maps.
Not ideal for a couples getaway. Bartender very keen on serving and talking to male customers, but not the female ones because they “talk too much”. My boyfriend had fun, but I would definitely not come back.
Owner however is very sweet.

- Lee (8/5): All things you need on site. Lovely owners. The beef stifado is amazing! I’ll definitely be back - The owner is so nice and laid back, we had a great time here! Location wasn’t great.

- Nina (9/5): It was ok - The staff was very nice. The cleaning lady came almost every day. The bed was very comfortable. 😊 At first there were no cooking stove in the apartment, but we ask for it and they brought it right away. There were no sharp knives, only butter knife i asked for it at the bar and they gave ne one, no problem.
The air condition had to be paid in addition 70€ per week - i never saw this anywhere before. Usually is within the price.
TV didn't work.
Water in the pool was so cold.
I missed a broom in the apartment (i got it, because i asked for it) and a drying rack for towels.
- SERBAN (10/5): - very nice ambience and very kind personal ; everything very clean
(10/5): Very nice hotel with a very good location! - Very nice hotel with a very good location!
- Richard (9/5): - De rust.

- Irina (6/5): - Gradina foarte frumoasa.
- Anis (2/5): - Beoordeling accommodatie – verblijf 16 t/m 23 september
- SueA1510 (6/5): How I felt about my stay . I wouldn’t want to stay longer than a week - Need a car . Couples in their 50s extremely loud at 2am. Bar staff are very friendly, Breakfast not enough different fruits. Too many chips with the evening meals . A couple of meals were overcooked Hated the bathroom. Plug stuck in basin sink so couldn’t use . Bathroom needs refurbishing. Nothing to cook on. Paid an extra 170 euros for tax, air con late stay, and safe . Taxi was coming at 9 out of the room by 6. Towels are rough. No hand towels.Bathroom could have been cleaner.
I wouldn’t come back here.
- jen69_11 (10/5): Amazing holiday - What an amazing place to holiday. Manos Costa and all the staff are so friendly nothing is to much trouble.
A lot of returning guests, you arrive not knowing anybody but leave as friends.
Very clean, relaxing pool area comfy sunbeds and plentiful. Food very good price & portions.
- simonwD7539PK (8/5): Great place, great holiday - Typical basic Greek hotel bedrooms, but they are only to sleep in and get ready in. Manos, works very hard and accommodates everything you require. Rooms cleaned every other day, towels changed.
Pool is very nice, sunbeds are quality and comfortable, no problem getting one. Snacks and drinks around the bar are great. 10 minute walk into the old town, 20 minute walk to the strip.
Costa is a great barman, very funny and makes you feel very welcome. Overall had a great 2 week stay at the Real Palace, and would return.
Weather was fantastic as well.
- E9200DUtinab (10/5): Lovely stay - Had a lovely holiday at the Real
Palace. We were family with 2 teenage daughters aged 16 and 14. Pool
was lovely nice size and warm. Plenty of sun loungers. Nice walk into the Old Town. Manos was very welcoming when we arrived. His daughter and son were also very friendly. Kostas was so friendly to and chatted to us every evening. Food was freshly prepared every day and was so tasty and healthy. Nice vegetarian choices. I would highly recommend staying.
- A5887AChayleyr (10/5): Great girls holiday - My friends and I went for five nights with a bed and breakfast deal. It was an amazing hotel for what we paid for. Perfect sized clean pool with plenty of sun chairs/beds to choose from. Good for young people’s holidays at that time.
The staff were very polite and spoke good English, they were happy to call reliable taxis for us to and from the strip. Twenty minute walk to the strip and a fifteen minute walk to the town. The breakfast was usually cereal or scrambled egg on toast which was suitable. Good service all day and most of the night from staff. Clean rooms which were spacious enough for four of us in one room. I’d recommend for a girls/boys holiday especially around June and July. Loved it there.
- Marianne (10/5): Very nice place! - Very nice and friendly staff, good pool area, clean rooms and nice surroundings. Would like to stay there again. Plenty of young people, and the nights were very noisy. Kitchen has only fridge and some equipment (not e.g. oven). No window blinds in all rooms, so in the morning it’s really bright in the rooms (could not sleep without a sleep mask).
- Joyce (8/5): - Zeer vriendelijk personeel!
- Lilygrass12 (4/5): Do not recommend if you want a clean stay. - Stayed here for a girls holiday, location was good, around 15 minutes walk to the strip and corner shops near by (around 10 minutes walk) Pool was a good size and plenty of sunbeds to go around.
However, if you’re looking for a clean hotel, we found multiple silverfish and when asked to move rooms, we were refused on multiple occasions/ ignored and basically forced to deal with it ourselves/ not much they could do. Upon arrival, there were brown, red, yellow-ish stains on all 3/3 bedsheets and was told “too late” to receive new bedding and had to get on with it. We were promised sheets and towels to be changed every 2 days but found this was often a skipped practice.
Though our rooms had a good size balcony with a nice garden view, the room itself there aren’t any toiletries provided at all (just a heads up) the bathroom was usable but was not pleasant- resulting often using the kitchenette sink- same as the dated room. Air conditioning + tax was another further €50 a week per room with no receipt (they could have been making the price up, others paid the same and got late check out included but not all?) and at times AC was faulty e.g. wouldn’t turn on/ off. Breakfast included variety was very limited and rather poor, you’re better off paying extra for food each day by the bar. Avoid if you want a clean stay!
- happyt896 (10/5): 10/10 book it! - Went with a group of 9 of us aged 19 who stayed for a week. Upon arrival we were greeted by a lovely man behind the reception who checked us in and we had to pay €50 each, but this included aircon, tourist tax and late check out in 1 room for the day we left. the rooms were spacious and the beds were comfy. the pool is always pretty much empty so you always get a sun lounger or a bed any time of the day. there is so much variety of food, and the carbonara and cheesy garlic bread are amazing with such good portion sizes. the walk to the strip is about 15 minutes but goes quickly, or a taxi is around €15 at night. the staff are all so lovely and helpful and can help with any questions you have. when we left the man on reception kindly gave us a chocolate each too. would definitely stay here again if i came back to malia, would defo recommend for lads/girls holidays, or if you just want a place to rest whilst you explore crete!
Camas: Muy blandas y almohadas altas
Poco espacio en la.habitación
Ducha: Muy pequeña y se salía El agua
- 924clevern (4/5): - Decent rooms but the toilet was horrific mold on shower curtains on the walls shower head was leaking at the side charged 70 euros for aircon and tourist tax don’t recommend
- 891kimberleyf (10/5): Fantastic and very enjoyable holiday. - We have just come back from this hotel in Malia and what can I say fab hosts couldn’t do enough for us during our stay there, hotel is clean, tidy, great housekeeping, ate there a few times and food was great and plenty of it. This is a vibe hotel but the youngsters didn’t bother us as we were young once and did the same thing after exams. The old town is quite close with lots of tavernas, two shops near by and just a ten minute walk to the strip with loads of great places to eat and drink especially one pub called Street with great hosts and lovely staff serving you. We will be back and thanks again.
- Junemann (10/5): Great stay. - Fantastic people.
- Dávid (1/5): Room 23, 2nd floor (top), near the motel's pub - Giant parking lot. Building looks nice. Owner is generally kind.
We checked TV with its few buttons egg-like remote. You can’t even change the language of the programme, but it didn’t matter since the quality was laughably bad (the brand is F & U, which is amusing in itself). Upon arrival, 50€ tax?, no receipts, at least we were able to pay with card.
First few days were swarmed by hundreds of ants (floor, kitchen top, around bed), that was until i blocked their entrances with dish soap, after that we only got ~5 ants/day.
There was no soap in the bathroom, and neither dish soap nor a sponge in the kitchen—we had to buy these ourselves. The kitchen was also poorly equipped, so we purchased an extra bowl. The hot plate made loud popping noises and its plug was badly melted, which was concerning.
Although air conditioning and a safe were advertised as included, they cost extra. The AC, for example, cost €70 for 7 days or €140 for 14 days, so we didn’t use either.
The beds were uncomfortable - too soft, with hard pillows that caused us neck and back pain. The two single beds were just pushed together, leaving a big gap in the middle. There was only one nightstand and a single, awkwardly placed power outlet.
Noise was a major issue: the room had no sound insulation, so we could hear outside conversations and loud noise from the bar below, even late at night. One night, a security guard shouted on the phone for hours. Even with ANC earbuds and music, we struggled to sleep multiple nights.
The shower was tiny and poorly designed, flooding the bathroom every time. The toilet leaked, and the bathroom sink plug got stuck after one use. There was no hairdryer (brought our own) or clothes drying rack (yet it was listed), and the only table was bit unstable and outside on the balcony. One balcony door was partly broken (couldn't be tilted), there was no mosquito net, and the extractor fan wasn’t vented outside, it just blew the air into the cupboard above. While the bed, towels, and sheets were clean, we did find various stains.
We mainly wanted a place to sleep while exploring the island, but the constant noise made it impossible to get proper rest.
*Pub's pool table could have been free for residents...
- Ashley (10/5): - Can I say Excellent!!!!
Manis and his staff was perfect. I got help with whatever I needed and whatever I didn’t understand as an English only speaker, they were quick to translate and explain. This trip was my first time in Europe and I felt very safe as a solo traveler. I slept with my balcony door open because it was so cool and I never needed the a/c. Yes there is a charge for usage but it was not needed during my stay. Breakfast was good with a lot of options. I would recommend a stay here and I will definitely be back next year.
- Mrniceguy68 (10/5): Absolutely brilliant - Well, what can I say. We have travelled all over the world and the level of service here is unmatched. This is a true hidden gem. The owners obviously take a lot of pride in maintaining the accommodation and the grounds as everything is immaculate. The food is excellent and the bar is super friendly. We will be back.
Jacqueline and Alan
- Z3351NBkarenw (10/5): Fabulous, friendly and very hospitable - Absolutely lovely place to stay, Manos and Kostas were brilliant and couldn’t do enough for everyone. We ended up eating in the hotel bar most evenings as the weather was rubbish for most of our stay. The food was fab and cooked by a wonderful lady ( I didn’t get her name)
The room was perfect for what we needed and kept lovely and clean. We had a corner room and even had 2 balconies!
I would definitely recommend Real Palace to anyone if you don’t mind a little 10 minute walk to the shops and tavernas.
For our first trip to Crete, staying here has definitely made us want to come back.
- Connolly (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place, run by beautiful people. Enjoyed everything.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - Great Accomodation, highly recommend
- T. (9/5): Superb - Big free parking, the staff, the whole complex Toilet too close to the cistern so the seat cover doesn't stay opened. If you are not wearing a shirt it scratches your back.
- Houghton (10/5): Exceptional - Always a pleasure staying at Real Palace.
Manos and Kosta always at hand with a greeting and a smile. The food is great and always plentiful.
The rooms are basic and clean. The pool area is great. It's always fully booked.
- Joshua (10/5): - Excellent hotel in a perfect and serene location.
It is new and very clean, strong wifi, comfortable beds and hot water!
The management is very warm and kind, family run, definitely will be back!
The place deserves more than 5 stars!
- debbie2110 (10/5): Amazing stay ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Amazing stay, my room was clean and fresh. Beds and bedding crisp and white. The staff are amazing!!! I’m veggie and every meal time they have gone out of their way to make me something special!!!! I honestly can’t fault this place. The pool has ample sun beds and big loungers which have never been held by towels!! Few things to note they do smoke in the bar but that has not bothered me and I’m a non smoker? There is no soap in rooms so remember to bring your own for handwashing etc the rooms have a lovely large balcony with table and seating a lot bigger than most places I have stayed. It does feel a bit out of the way in the hills with olive groves as you walk to the property but I feel that adds to the charm of the place. The grounds are kept immaculate and guests all speak to each other. I will deffo return. Thank you Real Palace
- Penelope Anne (10/5): - 4th stay always good, amazing staff, spotlessly clean and a friendly atmosphere at the bar where conversation flows at ease and new friends made.
- Jacob (8/5): - Overall, the place was nice. It was comfortable, the rooms were fairly big, and the pool area was very relaxing. The booking did mention air conditioning, but because it was the off-season, we were not given the controller, even though it got a little warm in the night. They also do not provide any hand soap, which was a little inconvenient. All-in-all, it was a good stay, though. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
- Magro (6/5): Great location, however you need a car to go to the centre . - Views - close to Malia Beach The room wasn’t as clean , the showers were a bit messy. Beds were separated and all in single format, we had to go up 3 flight of stairs!! Overall we enjoyed our stay and helpful staff.
- Louie (9/5): Hot refreshing class - Proper sound guys behind the bar, strong drinks, the food was absolutely different class, the pool was lovely and the rooms were clean and spacious and the pool area and greens were smart My only complaint while being there would be the AC being pretty poor but apart from that loved it
- Junemann (10/5): Great time at the Real Palace. - A very enjoyable stay. Wonderful staff.
- Alexia (10/5): Nice and quiet hotel - Nice room, comfortable beds, nice balcony, perfect surrounding place with big gardens with grass (plus for kids to play) and generally quiet place. Everything was nice - the only thing to suggest is to offer hand soap
- Esuola (9/5): We had a good experience at Real palace. Ther property was a very good value for money. The owner and staff are very acc - A lovely property with friendly staff. The owner is a very nice man, very helpful and pleasant
- Hall (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sylvie (10/5): Tres bon rapport qualité prix. A recommander - Tres bien. Personnel attentionné et competent. Espace piscine super.
- Martin (8/5): - Self catering facilities need to be improved. We had no cooking utensils. Short on plates and bowls. No toaster
- Susan (9/5): Great value hotel, relaxed atmosphere, recommended - Perfect location for us, quiet but a sort distance away from the bustle of Malia and a walk from Potamos Beach. The restaurant was good and the traditional Greek dishes very good indeed. Manos and his staff were very welcoming and ensured we had a good stay. Great value for money and we will certainly be coming back. Perhaps a few more utensils in the kitchen area and toiletries in the bathroom would have been good but generally nothing to complain about
- Jade (10/5): - Solo travelling woman - I felt safe, the property was clean and had all your basic needs. The staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful and kind. The beach is about 20 mins walk (max) and the old town Malia and the archeological site of the palace of mailia is not far either. I would happily stay here again! Thank you for my stay!
- andymacs3108 (10/5): Amazing stay x - This place is truly wonderful.
Manos greets everyone personally. He escorts you to your room, irrespective of the day or time of night.
What a gentleman.
Our room?
Self catering?
Give me a toaster and I’ll love you.
Absolutely wonderful. Clean, fresh.
Our young cleaning lady was incredibly nice.
Costa!
Top bloke
- Roxana (10/5): Exceptional - Spacious, comfortable, quiet
- Norbert (10/5): definietly coming back there! - Barman was a great guy, really made our stay nice breakfasts, price/quallity ratio was really low
- 997charb (10/5): Family holiday - Located in old town Malia, although quiet area is great for families, couples and singles. The staff are very friendly, made us feel very welcome.
Super markets close by also a 5 minutes walk from Happy Days apartments. I would highly recommend and I will definitely book again.
Keep up the good work to all staff at Real Palace.
- K7231VCmikeb (10/5): Totally worth it - My time at Real palace was great
Clean room and unbelievable view from my balcony

The food was really nice as well and cheap as well

- academytraininga (2/5): Not happy at all - Overall the hotel and staff are nice!
Food vile
Cats all over kitchen side,
Cats wrapped around your feet whilst trying to eat, biting and scratching them selfs at your feet doesn’t isn’t nice!
The prices are a bit steep to not be able to eat due to cats. Each cat is pregnant so u can only imagine what it’s going to be like in a few weeks when the kittens have been born and roaming around.
Not happy with the holiday, been coming here for the last 4 years. And my god it’s gone down hill. I will never bring any friends or family here again,
- Kushanpagan (2/5): Very disappointing . Unhygienic. - Breakfast disgusting also leftover food used from self catering apartments . Had to ask for bedding to be changed this was day 9 never got changed again. Room not cleaned the whole 2 weeks. Towels changed twice in 2 weeks. People smoking anywhere in dining room also cats on the dining table. Would never recommend this hotel to anyone , worst we have ever stayed in !
- Bianca (10/5): We enjoyed staying here. Thé owner very helpfull. Very good property for thé rate we have paid - Very good facilities for the price we have paid The lack of some room's amenities such as hairdryer, shoes' brush, soap and shampoo in the bathroom
- Justinwevers (8/5): Very good - Manos and his staff are very friendly!
We came back after 5 years to stay again at Real Palace. Bathrooms need to be upgraded. But mostly the kitchen is very poor provided.
- Justinwevers (8/5): Very good - After 5 years we came back to Real Palace.
The staff is still very friendly and the place looks great. Unfortunately I have to be honest to mention that the rooms are a bit outdated. Bathroom is rather old, kitchen isn't well provided and poor. There's no curtain in front of the door what means the room is lighten up at early morning and the room wasn't cleaned during our one week stay.
- Mary Anne (8/5): - The hotel is located outside of central Malia, which is harder to access by foot if you have luggage. It's walkable and the views are splendid. The air is pure as there are many olive farms surrounding the property. It's also very breazy and It's good value for money. The only annoyance was that they demand a supplement for the aircon of 10 Euros per day, which according to Experia is included in the stay. For the 2 night stay, I wasn't going to protest. Otherwise it's a good budget stay. I would recommend this property for short stays.
- Cristina (9/5): Superb -
- Sylvie (10/5): Tres bon rapport qualité prix - Toyt etait parfait
- car0ldurrant (10/5): Fabulous complex - We have had a great holiday at the ReL Palace
It's lovely hotel. Very well presented. Lovely clean complex.
Very friendly service. Will definitely be going back soon.
Very helpful staff
Food was good
Buffet breakfast was basic.
But you can order from the menu instead
- denisenW8699DU (8/5): Real Palace Malia - Very nice , peaceful place to stay at this time of the year . Lovely clean pool and pool area with plenty of sunbeds . Food served is delicious and very good value ! Plenty of chips !! We stayed in a studio apartment, plenty of room for the two of us and a lovely balcony. A couple of minor complaints - no rail on balcony to dry wet swimwear or towels had to hang over chairs or balcony wall . Our sheets were not changed in the two weeks we were there ! We did ask the young girl who does the cleaning if she would change them , she said yes but never did ! And the room could have been swept out a little better than it was ...maybe if they provided a brush and pan ..well we would have done it ourselves . Having said all that , we had an enjoyable stay and would highly recommend....all staff were lovely and Manus and Costa very lovely people!!
- Christopher (10/5): - The staff is wonderful, management and service at the (breakfast) bar, very helpful and welcoming. We loved the pool, the lobby (incl. pool & ping pong tables) with its bar and its attractive set-up. It took only about a 10-minute leisurely walk to the best restaurants in town (Milos is a must!) and far enough for the hotel to be quiet and relaxing. We'd go back there anytime.
- Melissa (5/5): Good place to stay but noisy overnight - Beautifully maintained property with very friendly staff. They were very easy to communicate with via booking.com. before our visit as wellThere was a gorgeous pool and bar with lovely cocktails and many other drinks.
We had a very enjoyable evening meal at the Real Palace as well. It was very affordable. Most unusual...there was no soap of any sort in the bathroom of our room.
The fridge didn't work, and a sign on the wall said you could pay for air-conditioning...As we only stayed one night, we decided we would just leave our balcony door open for a bit of air flow. Sadly, we couldn't because it was so very noisy until way after midnight with partying from the bar.area.
- smnjellis06 (8/5): Lovely hotel - We got a very friendly welcome from Manous the manager. The hotel was clean and tidy and the shower was lovely! Beds comfortable maybe could have done with more comfortable pillows they were a bit hard lol but that's just preference.
Its self catering where we were but there was no cooking ring or toaster! But we didn't bring it up as we were eating out anyway. There was a kettle and other bits and pieces so could make a cuppa! The hotel is about a mile walk from the main high street and the club and bars. The pool is lovely and the staff are brilliant Costa is funny and a great barman. The food is good and a good price too. Don't ask for extra chips you get loads!
- Aldo (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice and quiet location. Friendly staff. It is a pity they had just one night available.
- Fernando (10/5): Exceptional - very good hotel at an affordable price, the staff was very helpful and attentive which made the stay even more pleasant, the elegant accommodation with everything you need for an excellent vacation, the very nice pool, the location relatively far from the beach but quiet and close to several typical restaurants and super markets, I definitely recommend it
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Batsiaka (10/5): Exceptional - Mr Manos is an excellent host! The room, the pool and the garden were so spotless! The price was very low for the facilities which provides you!
- Eva (9/5): Superb - We spent five nights with our daughter. Great satisfaction, kind and helpful staff. Clean everywhere and a very pleasant environment. We also used the pool and bar. The breakfasts were also very tasty. The only problem was the very high and hard pillows. Thank you and we will definitely be back.
- Mimoza (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maciej (10/5): bardzo dobry stosunek jakości do ceny - Bardzo dobry stosunek jakości do ceny! Cena przed sezonem bezkonkurencyjna. Bardzo mili właściciele, cicha okolica - świetna baza wypadowa do zwiedzania wschodniej części Krety. Jedyny minus za brak sprzątania pokoju podczas 5 nocy pobytu i ubogie wyposażenie aneksu kuchennego, jednak duży plus za ogólną czystość całego hotelu
- Cassar (9/5): Superb - A good place to stay away from the busy roads while still being within walking distance to busy areas.
- Lydia (8/5): fabulous place quiet and relaxing staff very helpful - slightly out of huddle and bustle of Malia town birdsong clean outside pool - beautiful clean apartment with separate bedroom- tidy and lovely staff not enough pans and utensils to cook with. need to bring washing up cloth and liquid.
no sofa to sit on inside but you can bring in the chairs from outside easily
- Crowle (9/5): Superb -
- Christopher (3/5): Poor. - There was a nice pool and the facilities in the bar looked to be good although we didn't try them. Staff didn't seem to be that keen to help, wifi was poor (which was blamed on our computer and our iphone, although later one of the staff did say that everyone struggles), kitchenette was minimal (no scourer, washing up liquid, very limited cutlery, small stove etc), room small (described as an apartment which to me suggests bedroom and living room, but all we got was an en suite room with little space to spare for three people), no tea/coffee/soap, towels were fine but we weren't allowed to use for the on site swimming pool!
- Steven (9/5): Excellent value for money. - Clean modern apartments. Friendly owner gave me free upgrade to a family room. Great location, very close to all the great restaurants in the beautiful old town. Highly recommended.
- Hubert (9/5): Superb -
- Julia (10/5): - Wonderful property, great location and very clean. Manos and his team are great hosts and can’t do enough for you.
- Michal (10/5): Good hotel on the edge of the city - the hotel is located on the sidelines of the town, thanks to which there is peace and quiet. To the center about 10 minutes walk, to the beach about 20 minutes.
There are quite a few good restaurants and shops within 10 minutes.
The neighborhood is very quiet, you can walk around banana plantations and olive groves.
Fairly budget hotel, very well kept. you can't fault anything.
Value for money is very good
the pool really does the job,
If you are a beach fan go to Potamos Beach. Do not use malia beach due to the huge crowds WiFi quality was dire. Good quality of network signal .... and no internet every few minutes.
You have to use Your mobile data.
- Stephan (8/5): - sehr nett
