• Giacomo (6/5): - Abbiamo prenotato in questo hotel due notti spinti dalle ottime recensioni che ha sui vari siti. L’hotel è a poche centinaia di metri dalle mura di Cartagena ed il centro si raggiunge facilmente. Il personale è molto gentile e disponibile, sempre sorridente. Purtroppo però la struttura necessiterebbe di una rinnovo completo: i mobili sono vecchi (ovviamente è un’opinione personale ma non incontravano minimamente i nostri gusti), la stanza era pulita ma con pareti scrostate, tra la zona lavandino e il letto c’erano al massimo due metri privi di porta. Inoltre la zona wc e quella doccia erano in comunicazione con la zona letto poiché la loro porta non raggiunge il soffitto. Non abbiamo usufruito della piscina poiché anche quella si presenta male ed al nostro arrivo uno dei due lettini giaceva rotto. Per la colazione non si ha scelta: uova. Anche questa decisamente squallida, viene servita nella zona comune adiacente alla piscina dove si muore di caldo e con gli uccelli che beccano sul tavolo. Sicuramente ha prezzi inferiori rispetto agli hotel nelle mura ma questo non giustifica lo stato di decadenza in cui vengono accolti gli ospiti.

• N (10/5): Great stay at Castillo Ines Maria - We enjoyed a short stay at Castillo Ines Maria. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Our room was clean and comfortable and the breakfasts (which change daily) were delicious and filling. The hotel is small and away from the main tourist sights, so pleasingly quiet and peaceful at night. It is a short walk to the walled city/centro historico, but be aware it can be difficult to cross the busy arterial road which passes between the street the hotel is on and the walled city.

• TheReids (8/5): A Taste of the Old World - The Castillo is as described in booking.com and by others. I wanted to comment on the especial kindness and care given by Ines Maria to me and others that I witnessed. I was very ill from the stomach upsets that were going around the city and San Andres. Ines Maria spoke to her doctor on my behalf and arranged for the pharmacy to give me the medication necessary to help me recover. I spent a day and a half in bed so I had plenty of opportunity to enjoy the wall paintings in our suite with balcony. Ines’ care has helped me enjoy our remaining weeks in Colombia. Ines Maria is bilingual and I overheard her making very special arrangements for another guest to surprise and delight his wife on her birthday. This is the kind of care that is very rare in the world. While almost all of the staff were kind and attentive, I had difficulty communicating with the front desk person. At 8:30 a.m. I requested her to please have my sheets replaced but each hour or so I was told it would happen later. It didn’t happen until after 12:30 when I resorted to use Google Translate to explain that this could not wait until the end of the day when all the other chores were done. I really needed sleep. The housekeeper came quickly after that and did a lovely job so I slept the rest of the day and night.

• Gregory (10/5): - We loved our stay at this adorable boutique hotel. It is well-run, safe, and has great amenities. The breakfast is outstanding, staff are extremely polite and helpful, and the room was perfect. It's a very quick walk to the old walled city of Cartagena, and it is actually nice to stay outside of that area to get a break from the constant bombardment of people trying to sell you something. The pool is beautiful, and the water appears to be ionizer-conditioned, which means it has less chlorine needed to keep it clean. It's nice to not smell like chlorine after swimming. The hotel also facilitated us getting some laundry done through a contract service and even stored our clean clothes when it hadn't arrived on time for our 2-day trip to the Rosario Islands.

Cuando llegas te obligan a firmar tres paginas con todas las prohibiciones. Pareciera que te estuvieran recibiendo de caridad. La relación calidad precio no es óptima. No me dieron factura por mi pago, me dijeron que la enviarían por correo y no lo hicieron. Cobran 3% adicional por pagar con tarjeta, que el último día me regresaron y me hicieron firmar carta. No me parecen transparentes.
• Phanith (10/5): Best Vacay Spot in the Country!!! - HOLY MOLY!!!! We found a diamond in the rough, or should I say, a Diamond in plain view!!! This place is hands down the most comfortable, accommodating, enjoyable, and did I mention scenic hotel/inn that you can find in Cartagena. The staff and the view from the second and third floors are too die for!!! To begin the vacation Juan David and Andres welcomed myself and my fiance with open arms and the hospitality never ceased to stop. They constantly checked-in with us, they were never a stone's throw away when we needed help or advice on where to go, visit, eat or party. Elvis and Elmer were angels that saved us time and time again. They always made sure that we were well taken care of and always made sure that where ever we went, we were safe and not in harms way. The entire staff and property is like a HEAVEN OASIS! Our breaths' were constantly taken with every morning that passed. To say that we will return, IS AN UNDERSTATeMENT! The care, compassion, and family atmosphere that the entire property consistently provided is barn none. Can't wait to celebrate with OUR Cartagena family in the near future. Juan David, Andres, Elvis, and Elmer are the mainstays that will always have a special place in our hearts with how they made us feel welcomed and consistently comfortable with whatever request, question, and accommodation that we had. THIS IS OUR SECOND HOME AND WE ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR EVERYTHING THAT THE STAFF AND HOTEL DID.
• Vicki (6/5): - We stayed at this hotel twice on our trip to Colombia. Overall the experience was pleasant. The location of the hotel is great — quiet neighborhood and a short walking distance to the walled city. The staff was friendly. Unfortunately, my partner fell sick and had a rough night before our last day in Colombia. He spent almost the whole morning sleeping. So I requested a late checkout at noon, instead of at 11am. I was told we would pay 100,000 pesos (~$25) for the extra hour in the room. I also read on a card that storing luggages at the hotel would accumulate fees daily too. We decided to just pack up and leave instead of paying $25. I can’t say if their policy on extra fees was right or wrong. It’s just something other travelers need to be aware of.

• Elisabeth (8/5): - I spent just one night here and it was very comfortable. The staff was very helpful when I arrived very late from the airport. It's a pretty older house in an accessible neighborhood (although the immediate surrounding streets aren't very charming.) Breakfast in the courtyard (included) was very pleasant. One small complaint: there is no way to adjust the temperature of the water in the shower. It was hot -- it's the tropics! -- so I didn't mind. But it would be helpful to get that fixed. Overall -- good value for money.

The staff could not do more to accommodate you, especially Marisimo. We had a beautiful room and enjoyed the complementary breakfast, tea and coffee. Would definitely recommend this hotel, a 10 minute walk from the old town. Thank you to Marisimo for making us feel so welcome!

It was nice to be able to get away from the hectic energy of the city center, while still being about a 10 minute walk away. This is not a fancy place, but the decor is really nice, the breakfast plentiful, and the staff go out of their way to provide a pleasant experience.

On my last day, a couple of staff members were on their day off for rest and were filled by new staff with the same atmosphere of Family Oriented members. • samanthamcconaha (10/5): Perfect location for a weekend trip to Cartagena - My boyfriend and I traveled to Cartagena and stayed at this amazing little hotel just outside of the walled city. From start to finish the staff was welcoming and accommodating. We had no expectations, but they really left a great first impression of the city. It’s difficult to say what was my favorite part! The staff makes breakfast for you every morning with fresh juice and fruits and different meals each day. The back patio area and upper patio was the perfect place to relax after wandering the streets of Cartagena. Which in itself is a life changing experience. The hotel itself is located within MINUTES of major attractions and a short distance to the heart of Getsemani, which I recommend seeing for a first hand experience of the warmth and kindness of Colombia. There were tons of shops and restaurants close by and the beach is literally a road over, for those looking. Overall, it was the way the staff interacted with us and made sure we were happy and enjoying our time here. They even tracked down some ibuprofen for me in the late hours of the morning for a stubborn headache I experienced my first night. And they allowed us to leave our bags, free of charge for the last three hours of our trip after check-out and then arranged for a cab to take us to the airport I could go on and on. • 788smartv (10/5): Very nice place to stay in Cartagena - I went to Colombia to celebrate my birthday and I chose Cartagena for this date. The hotel is in a mansion, in a very pleasant street and walking distance from the old city wall. Very safe to walk. The hotel staff are very friendly and professional. I loved them all. Gregoria, Juliete, Yaudis and Gissele. The guys that works overnight too. My stay at the hotel and in Cartagena was wonderful. I will be back soon. Muchas gracias por todo. Muy amable.

We took a quick shower and quickly found out there was no hot water and the attached to the wall hair dryer didn't work. We told the front desk and someone came up and looked at our shower and sure enough, the water heater was broken as well as the hair dryer. They told us it would be fixed but they didn't know when because it was Christmas. Well, it was also Christmas for us. In the hospitality business, there are no holidays in my opinion. And, why wasn't this checked before? We stayed that night and found out that there were no blankets in the room either. There were only 5 guests in the hotel, yet there was no time to help us. However, the staff did manage to put on a Christmas Eve dinner complete with loud music until around 11 PM. One more thing - although advertised as having a bar/lounge, there wasn't one. We went for a walk on Christmas, returned at 3 PM and our room had not been cleaned, the hot water and hair dryer had not been repaired, no blankets showed up as well as no hangers. We decided to check out and find a better place. We agreed to pay for two nights and to cancel the other 5 nights. They did not refund any money. Do not stay here.

And one more thing - although advertised as having a bar/lounge, there wasn't one. We decided to check out and find a better place. We agreed to pay for two nights and to cancel the other 5 nights. They did not refund any money and to the credit of Hotels.com, a representative advocated for us but the hotel refused to refund the 5 nights. Don't stay here and I suggest you read reviews on other sites. This hotel should be removed from Hotels.com.
• galinaholechek (6/5): Cute Room, But NO AC - and NO refund. - I stayed here a couple of weeks ago when the humidity was 84% and at the height of the afternoon it was almost 90° outside. Every hostel I stayed at all over colombia had air-conditioning and this was supposed to be my splurge on my way out of town. I flipped on the AC and gave it a while to kick in -only to arrive to my room hours later and realize it didn’t actually work. The management weren’t rude, but they also weren’t ecstatic to help me find a solution. He said I could get my room refunded and stay somewhere else but at that point it was 10 o’clock at night. I opted to just suck it up, he offered me a fan. Ive contacted management several times to reimburse part of my stay and no one is getting back to me. On top of it, the audacity of the staff the next morning to charge me for a couple of waters and a beer that I had out of the "mini bar". Also, sidenote that the minibar has no indication that the waters and the beers aren’t free- no sign, no pricing. The fact that they literally expected me to pay for a couple of waters and a beer after that s- show was beyond me. I'm sure this could be a cute place to stay with AC - but didnt like how this has been handled.

As independent travelers, we loved the fact that this is not a sterile, hotel room but rather a home where we felt like a welcome family member. A real taste of Colombia in a residential neighborhood right near the Old City. We stayed for 2 nights in a room with a balcony toward the sea and came back to spend our final night in Cartagena in. Double room. Each room is unique, very clean and comfortable. The home is filled with antiques and we felt transported back in time. Breakfast was excellent. We especially enjoyed the neighborhood outside the hustle of the Old City. There’s a grocery store, pharmacy and restaurant options all nearby. The owners were wonderful, and gave us many excellent recommendations. Would definitely return.

Compramos un paquete que ademas de incluir todos los vuelo ( internac y domesticos), include los hoteles por 3 noches en cada ciudad que visitamos, Bogota, Medellin y Cartagena. Todo fue excellente en cada lugar hasta que llegamos en la noche a este hotel en Cartagena. Para empezar por cuestiones de seguridad, para salir o entrar hay que llamar a alguien para que abra y cierre la reja de la casa. El cuarto asignado a nuestra reservacion era super pequeno, si hubiera podido colocarme en el centro del cuarto podia con las menos extendidas tocar ambas paredes, cosa que no fue posible debido a los muebles que ocupaban el 95% del espacio. Para llegar aqui habia que subir una escalera a la interperie atravez del patio que no tenia mas de medio metro de ancho. Le dije a mi esposa ni desempaques que por no faster un poco mas voy a pasar aqui los peores dias de mi vida. Reservamos en el Hyatt Regency por 315.00 las 3 noches y fue lo mejor que hicimos. No pretendo que Ines Maria nos devuelva un centimo de la reservacion, y se que no lo hara, pero si, quiero dejarle saber a todos de esta mala experiencia y que no se dejen confundir de un nombre extravagante o de unas lindas fotos tomadas quien sabe cuando, porque todo parece ser de dos siglos atras sin nunca haber sido remodelado. Por favor dejen de llamar hotel a una casa grande parapeteada para ser usada como hotel. Si hay fantasmas o no en las noches se lo debo pues solo estuve ahi unos 5 minutos. NI CASTILLO, NI BOUTIQUE, NI HOTEL !! We were for 10 days in that wonderful country that is Colombia. We bought a package that also includes all flights (internac and domestic), including hotels for 3 nights in each city we visited, Bogota, Medellin and Cartagena. Everything was excellent in each place until we arrived at this hotel in Cartagena at night. To start we guest that for security issues, to get out or enter you have to call someone to open and close the gate of the house. The room assigned to our reservation was super small, if I could have placed myself in the center of the room with my arm extended I can touch both walls, which was not possible due to the furniture that occupied 95% of the space. To get here you had to climb thru a staircase from the patio that was not more than half a meter wide. I told my wife, don't unpacks, I will not spend here the worst days of my life. We booked at the Hyatt Regency for 315.00 all 3 nights and it was the best we did. I do not pretend that Ines Maria returns a cent of the reservation, and I know she will not, but yes, I want to let everyone know about this bad experience and not to be confused by an extravagance name or some pretty photos taken who knows when, because everything seems to be two centuries ago without ever being remodeled. Please stop calling a large house HOTEL. This is nothing out than a creepy old uncomfortable place for anyone on vacation. If there are ghost or not at night I owe it to you because I was only there for about 5 minutes.

• jcschew (10/5): My Vacation in Cartagena - The best thing about this hotel was the staff. Everyone is super friendly and helpful and the breakfast every morning was delicious. The pool is a nice added touch after a long, hot day of walking around. The location is pretty good too. It is a couple minute walk from the City Sightseeing Bus Stop (which will take you all around the area), it's about a 10 minute, at most, walk into the Walled City, and about 7 minutes by taxi from the airport. I really loved this little hotel that has a ton of charm.
• hibsb (10/5): Don’t forget the kitchen! - We stayed here for two nights in August, the staff could not have been more lovely, always eager to help with any requests. The rooms were great with a delightful bathroom and included a small fridge too, not many did on our trip in Colombia, so it was an unexpected addition. The house itself is just stunning with many terraces and beautiful views, plus hammocks to relax in. Great little welcoming pool open until 10pm, so cool to be swimming there in the dark with the pool lights on. Nobody seems to mention that you also have use of the kitchen, we only used it once for a snacky meal, but others did seem to use it for cooking small meals. Would I stay here again? Without a doubt, wish I was back there now!!☺️
• U5748YGryanb (10/5): Beautiful Colonial House and Amazing Staff - We just got back from several days at the lovely Boutique Castillo Ines Maria in Cartagena. We'd been looking forward to our stay here based on the photos, but the reality surpassed our expectations. The colonial house is gorgeous, full of charm and beauty with an impressive main entrance. The tiled pool area, the rooftop terrace and hammock were lovely spots to spend the evenings in the breeze from nearby Marbella Beach. Our room itself was quaint and cozy...the bed was comfortable, and the staff did a marvelous job at keeping it clean and inviting. With only a handful of guest rooms, the hotel was charming, quiet and peaceful. Every morning one of the housekeepers/cook served amazing breakfasts to order, allowing guests to dine outside in the gorgeous tiled terrace (think home-made arepas stuffed with queso and meat, and other delicious Colombian delicacies). The location of the hotel was amazing. Literally across the street was a cute beach with cabanas and local children enjoying themselves in the sea. In addition, it was a mere minutes walk to the old walled city (and given the close proximity to both the beach and the historical center, there was never a shortage of cabs that you could easily hail from right outside the front gate). The best part of our stay was hands down the beautiful, accommodating staff. Every single individual was so friendly and warm, and made us feel extremely welcomed and attended to our any need or ask. Maria, one of the hotel managers, was exceptional and took care of our every need. We didn't speak Spanish, and the staff were equipped with Google translate on various devices in order to best serve us. We couldn't say more wonderful things about this team and our time spent at the Hotel Ines Maria. If and when we return to Cartagena, we will be staying here again without a doubt.

We had the junior suite which was very very nice. Big and very comfortable. The price/quality is very good. Staff speaks basic English - thanks for that. The breakfast is very tastfull and every day different. There is a small swimmingpool - we enjoyed cause it was very very hot. The hotel is only 10 min walk from the centre. The staff does everything to make your staf great. Hotel is very clean.

Thank you so much Inez, Cindy, Julio, Juliana, Junior, Gregoria and anyone else whose name I didn't know. Kindness begets kindness. If you are looking for perfection and standards of the high end hotel chains, this is not the one for you. But if you are a global traveler and want to experience the flavor of Cartagenian colonial charm in a quiet, safe barrio close to the walled city, this is the place for you. The hotel is within a five min walk from a Hop on Hop Off bus stop which you can buy tickets for at the hotel and we highly recommend. Also,a private tour with Enrique, our guide, to Baru was a memorable day. A simple breakfast entree changed daily but you must like eggs, great fruit, good coffee; my favorites were the pancakes and the crepes.

Stranda ligger like ved så vi sto opp tidlig kasta på badetøy og inntok stranda fra morgenen av og kveldene brukte vi i gamlebyen. En utrolig vakker by fylt med mennesker, lukter, musikk, opplevelser og mat! Hotellet gjorde oppholdet vårt komplett og jeg garanterer at vi skal tilbake til samme hotell til neste år!

A relatively small hotel, nothing overly fancy, clean, very nice and quiet at night (found this hard to find most places in Colombia), helpful staff, decent breakfast, good internet. The hot water isn't the best, like many places but the rooms are big, clean and the shower is warm enough.

Very safe (you ring to be let in) and in a residential neighborhood with a couple of good restaurants nearby. At first we thought it a bit of a hot walk to get to the centro, but then we realized that there were cabs going by all the time and they take you there for 7000 ($2.50 USD). No haggling on fares here. Small pool, excellent and varied (included) breakfast served by the pool. Great tv service and good internet reception. Very quiet at night. Ocean view from upper patios. 1 block from a beach. Very recommended!
• Verified traveler (10/5): Loved the architecture and decor! - Beautiful historic home transformed into a hotel hundreds of feet from the ocean, and only a few minutes walk from the Rafael Nunez house and the old city. I really loved the architecture of the home, and tasteful decor. Really enjoyed the seclusion and quiet of the pool and patio area, which was where i spent most of my time during my working holiday. While i was there, they upgraded the internet connectivity with multiple providers and greater coverage throughout. As with any hotel, maintenance happened, but it was only a minimal inconvenience, and much appreciated. The AC unit stopped working, so they switched my room, and had a repairman there the next day to replace it. The staff was friendly, and dealt quite well with my incessant use of google translator. Being former military, i appreciated it when the staff reminded me about drinking unfiltered local water, and walking to and from the city at night in dimly lit areas, they even kept the front gate locked adding the seclusion and safety. The breakfasts were on par with most basic US hotel continental breakfasts. There are a few restaurants on the same street if that doesn't suffice. I would highly recommend this hotel to others, and have!

• Verified traveler (6/5): Not a great experience, staff is not attentive - The actual hotel premises is nice, but not as advertised. First, it needs to be better maintained and cleaner. The tub was dirty and the towels were worn. We stayed in the suite, and it's really nice, high ceilings, nice big bathroom, just kind of worn and shoddy. The staff is really the problem. They always had friends and their kids there, so if you need something, they make you feel uncomfortable, like you are inconveniencing them. You actually need a staff member to let you into and out of the front gate every time you are coming or going, so to track down a staff member and get them to actually assist you each time is kind of a pain. It was like they were enjoying themselves and we were intruding, so it wasn't pleasant to be on the terrace area or near the pool because that's where they always hang out. On another note, it's close to the walled city, just a few minutes walk, but to get to the part of the walled city where things are happening, it's probably a 15-20 minute walk. This wasn't a problem for us because we don't mind walking, but they encourage you to take a taxi because they said it's not safe at night. We didn't take taxis and we were fine, but that's not exactly reassuring. If, like us, you're not fluent in Spanish, I wouldn't recommend this place. It was difficult trying to communicate with the staff because of the language barrier.

The only negative is the bed was noisy and needs to be upgraded. Otherwise, we enjoyed the stay and the location. I would stay there again and recommend it.

• Verified traveler (10/5): My Home away from Home - Hotel Boutique Castillo Ines Maria is an eloquent old home in a quite residential neighborhood a couple of blocks walk from outside of the Old Town Wall. It is an easy walk during the day, however I recommend a quick taxi ride after dark. The hotel was very clean and well maintained, the air units were new and cooled quickly, which was very necessary during the time of year we were there. All of the staff were friendly and extremely helpful in every way, we felt like family before we left. We enjoyed a great breakfast that was a choice of eggs or Arepas and fresh fruit daily. We will be back again and again.

The location is a short 7-10 minute walk into the walled city and while the neighborhood is decent I would just take care after ours. The location felt super safe as the hosts need to buzz you in and then come to the gate to let you in. The best parts were the A/C and the breakfast which is made for you and served on a beautiful patio next to the pool. I would highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Cartagena!

Staff incredibly friendly but not a word of english so communicating in our limited spanish was quite difficult and led to a number of misunderstandings. And although it is located a couple blocks outside the walled city, we felt safe walking around (with the exception of late at night which one shouldn't do anywhere). There's also the Rafael Nunez house/museum on the same street one can visit and a great restaurant as well next door. When we left a couple items of clothing, they called the next hotel we were at as well as emailed. Overall, very positive experience and would stay again (with a spanish dictionary though!)

We forgot some stuff which was found and returned to us. The only "minus" is that to get to the city center you have to walk along a quite lonely street befor crossing the wall and there is no access to taxis as often as in a more central place.
• Rory (10/5): Great hotel and truly great value - Amazing customer service, beautiful historic building (full of marble) and good location - highly recommended. We stayed for for 4 nights in March 2014 and weren't disappointed. It's a 5 min walk from the old town (you can see the walls from the house), but that means it's near the beach, the rooms are better and there's a pool. The neighbourhood it's in is totally safe, it's full of other old colonial buildings and modern penthouses. Facilities are excellent, clean + well maintained, and the scrambled eggs for breakfast are really good! Bottom-line, for the price (Cartagena is more expensive than most of Colombia) and the care that the staff afforded us, I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
