Guest Reviews
- CHERYL (8/5): - Breakfast was good. The room was small. Some hooks for towels to dry would have been a good idea! Frosted glass door to the bathroom made for very indiscreet toilet visits!!!
- Jill (8/5): - Room was warm but they provided a fan.
- Geoffrey (8/5): Overnight before catching the early ferry - Overnight stay before the ferry home early next morning, so was unable to have breakfast.
The hotel reception and rooms have been refurbished since our previous visit two years, which has made a big improvement, the corridors are still the same, but the main areas had been addressed.
- Ben (10/5): -
Brilliant hotel and very friendly and helpful staff. Definitely recommend
- Michael (10/5): - I appreciated that the hotel offered luggage storage. This made my arrival in Caen very simple. I also liked the breakfast and the staff were helpful.
- Brigid (10/5): Comfortable - A quiet, clean room, with a compact bathroom. I especially appreciated having an elevator to get luggage upstairs. Pleasant, helpful desk staff
- Rori (10/5): - The hotel offers parking in the back of the building, which is a real plus. It's walking distance to shopping district, cafes and more.
It offers a great base for discovering Normandy beach history.
Friendly staff, clean rooms, pleasant enough.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Good central location, close to train station.
- Bill (8/5): - Great place to stay only stayed one night but there was some filthy areas or unkept around corner from hotel, parking lot behind hotel similar. Short stay not sure how accurate the staff is great, rooms clean. Good value
- Georgina (10/5): - This hotel was a hidden gem. Although an error was made in my reservation, the front desk made amends and upgraded my room. I wholeheartedly would recommend this boutique hotel.
- William (2/5): - We were put on the 4th floor with a broken elevator. The staff did not even offer help with our suitcases. We couldn't even find a bottle of water in the rooms that were just small. The hotel needs new mattresses, sheets and pillows as soon as possible. I can't recommend this place.
- Nick (10/5): - Clean and tidy. Slept good. Shower lovely. And the scrambled eggs for breakfast was yummy
- Jill (10/5): Lovely place - Lovely room and easy walking distance from the train station (15 min.) Lots of restaurants in the area, including a FABULOUS Indian place about 8 min away.
The only thing we weren’t thrilled with was the pillows on the bed. They were very lumpy and uncomfortable. I ended up folding the extra blanket up to use as a pillow.
- peter (8/5): - All good and a nive hotel room was very nice
- Lance (8/5): - Good location
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff were excellent! Very friendly and helpful. The room was small but ok but could have done with a fan or some air con as quite warm. Good choice at breakfast and good location for getting around.
- Martin (2/5): - We had two sleepless nights. The very loud outside noise only finished near to 4am on one night and 5am the next. After the first night we asked for a room move to the rear and were told we would be charged more. I would avoid this hotel. The only redeeming feature was the parking.
- Chris (8/5): - Excellent and very helpful staff.
- shaun (8/5): - Nice hotel on a quiet street. Beds comfy and breakfast really good with a great selection.
A short walk to the main part of Caen, with great restaurants and bars.
Also not too far from public transport hubs and car hire.
One minor gripe. The toilet/shower room door was opaque glass that if you are not a couple can cause embarrassment!
- Maylin (8/5): - Room was very small and dated but clean. Staff was friendly and polite. Location was excellent (close to the train station and transit). A fan in the room would have been nice to help cool it down.
- Tracy (10/5): - Property is well maintained, walking distance from train/bus station/bus stop.
Short walk to town center. Close to convenient shop.
Staff are friendly and polite and helpful.
Room was nice and clean.
No air condition
A bit noisy on as there is a club nearby -
- Klaus (8/5): - Very friendly and supportive staff. Great breakfast too. Thank you!
- Richard (10/5): - Second time is this close to the centre. Excellent
- Gary (10/5): - After a horrendous journey from CDG to Cannes, I was too late to check-in to the hotel, so slept overnight in the car. Reception opened at 7 am & they were very sympathetic & I checked-in straight away. Room was fine, although curtains would have been preferable to the voiles on the windows. Too much light & flashing blue lights outside didn't help. Breakfast was very good. Staff excellent.
- Ira Leonard (2/5): Don’t stay here - Not good tobaco smells surage smells no vent working in very small bathroom hotel noises
- adrian (6/5): - Bathroom drain smelled terrible. Hotel was aware because they had room window open to try to address.
Had to sleep four nights with the window wide open.
Noise from night club across the street every night until 6am.
- Glenn (10/5): - Nice staff. Simple and clean for a short stay.
- Gail (8/5): - Easily walkable to train station.
- Richard (6/5): - O.k. for a one night stopover. Limited dining nearby. Shower was difficult to use - small.
- Jane (10/5): - As a lone female traveller i couldn't have wished for more. My ferry was delayed so i arrived late, i emailed and there was immediate response, assuring me someone would be there. I was escorted to the carpark.Staff super friendly and helpful
- Richard (10/5): Good experience - Supper clean and smart small hotel with excellent and helpful staff. We found it a good place to explore Caen from
- Jean (10/5): - Bien situé , personnel agréable et salle de bain spacieuse.
- Stephen (10/5): - This hotel was ideally positioned near the river and a short walk from the Castle. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The rooms were compact but included everything we needed. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a stay in Caen.
- Fiona (4/5): Fine hotel but injured during stay - Overall the hotel was fine, central and comfortable but the bathroom door of our room was dangerous. It slides fully into the door frame resulting in fingers being trapped. I was left with an injured finger that has been permanently scared. I couldn't recommend this hotel unless the doors are fixed so this doesn't happen.
- Deborah and Wally (4/5): - Very noisy all night outside.
Losy pillows
Took long time to check in. Had to wait
for
r
manager to ask questions
- Rosalind (8/5): - Great for an overnight stop before an early ferry. Room was clean, and fit for purpose with a comfy bed. Easy to find dinner options in the local area.
- Alexander (6/5): - The hotel is well situated and has a parking, but all amenities are at a minimum level. A bar is situated on the opposed side of the street which is rather noisy at night. The hotel has no AC, so in the hot weather it is a great problem.
- Stephanie (8/5): - I like how near it was to everything, staff was helpful but I wish they had an iron or weren’t across that club.
- Richard (6/5): - Fairly good location, As a hotel it was acceptable nothing fancy.
- Linda (10/5): - Staff was very friendly, en francais and in English. Small double room a grrat use of space
- Alan (10/5): A happy stay - A group of friends visiting the Normandy Landing beaches & WW2 museums. Well positioned and helpful & pleasant staff.
- Michael (10/5): - Convenient location, nice facilities, helpful and friendly staff, good breakfast.
- Paul (10/5): - Great hotel. Breakfast was a good selection of cold meat, cheese and breads and pastries. Staff were nice and though I was no ggod at French and they were not good at english, google translate worked well. Nice rooms and private.
- stephanie (2/5): Bed bugs (punaises du lit) ruined our stay! - Our room had bed bugs (punaises), we were bitten all over and I reacted badly to the bites, see photos. I had to sleep fully clothed once I realised, though not fully effective in preventing more bites.
It is unacceptable for a hotel of this standard to lack in hygiene. This had a severe impact on the quality of my holiday and health.
I was extremely disappointed that the reception staff did nothing about my complaint, did not offer me a refund and did not escalate it immediately. They only offered an apology which is not adequate.
- Peter (8/5): - We only stayed overnight so we had no problems at all. Breakfast was OK and we were parked right outside the door ensuring a smooth getaway. Our only detrimental observation is that although the room had everything required of it, we could have used more space.
- Luke (10/5): Loved our stay - We stayed for 2 nights and we could not fault our experience. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were extremely friendly.
- Pavel (10/5): - nice hotel in the centre of town
- Verified traveler (10/5): Quite a little gem - Firstly DO NOT be put off by the area, yes it looks bit scruffy but is perfectly safe. I've no idea why people complained about the noise, there was nothing on either Saturday or Sunday night. Yes the car park looked a bit rough but it was only accessible to keyholders ( in this case the flat dwellers and hotel staff ) you can't get in or out without a key. Room was a bit dated but pretty comfortable and spacious. Big bathroom with 2 sinks, a loo, a bath and a good shower. Breakfast was as good as anywhere in France, with a wide selection which is immediately replenished if need be. About 10 mins walk from the town centre. 2 mins to the river and 5 mins from the racecourse. A great stay.
- Alison (10/5): - nice room with bath. Helpful staff. Great location for eating out.
- Ka (6/5): - Good location.
- Beatriz (8/5): Nice place to stay - Hotel Bristol is well located, 10 mins walk from the old town and castle and from the train station. It’s an average 3-star hotel, well maintained and clean. The room was ok size wise, not very big but ok for two people. We didn’t have breakfast there so can’t comment on it. Only thing is that there are a couple of clubs/discos on the same street so despite the double glazing in the room it can be noisy on a Saturday night, but there is nothing that a couple of earplugs can’t solve. The lady at the reception when we arrived just spoke French. I speak a little French so manage to understand. But honestly, I cannot understand how a person working at a hotel reception cannot speak other languages. She told us there was no space at their private parking so we had to pay on-street parking but only for the remaining hours on the Saturday, Sundays are free and then we managed to get a space in their private parking for the last days. The other guy at the reception did speak English and he helped us with the private parking. He was very kind also showing us the city on a map. There are a couple of bakeries (boulangerie) and a supermarket on the street round the corner, very handy. No fridge in the room though.
- Brian (10/5): - The receptionist went through his check list. Thorough
- Andrea (8/5): - Was a very nice central location..
Staff fantastic. Room and bathroom very small but was very clean and did meet my needs..
- Darien (8/5): - Super nice staff. Good location. Dated hotel, but perfect stay.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Disappointing end to an average stay. - Booked this hotel at the last minute as we were stuck in Caen due to the industrial action on the railways. Located between the railway/bus station and old town. The hotel was a little dated and the lift cramped, though the room was comfortable and the wifi was good. The translucent bathroom door will divide opinions, I am sure. Some eateries of varying standards are nearby. We agreed a reduced price to stay a second night, but they told us to hold off paying immediately and inevitably had no record of this when we paid at check out - a little uncourteous!
- Oswaldo (6/5): - The
- Abigail (10/5): Convenient and Affordable - Hotel Bristol was perfect for a quick stay in Caen before taking the train. It is a quick walk to restaurants and the main town center. The hosts were attentive and offered a wonderful breakfast. Clean rooms with nice amenities and an elevator. Convenient location to the train and nice rooms for the price!
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Good location but too noisy from the bars across the street. Shower was extremely small and the wash basin was clogged
- RY (8/5): - Hotel is dated but well-kept. No A/C controls in the room, just a fan. Across the street from a noisy night club, but it didn't bother us too much. Staff who greeted us was very friendly. Generally a pleasant experience.
- Deborah (10/5): Great walkable location - Great location which was walkable to many sites and restaurants in Caen. Staff member called a taxi for us and that was very helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - In a great location to not just the train station, (you can walk it the hotel), but to center town and churches. Modern, clean and wonderful staff. I never ate there, but the dinning area looks very appealing.
- Peter (8/5): One night stop - Useful overnight stop before travelling south. Good location with car park. Excellent breakfast included!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff. Our room and bathroom were spotless. Nice breakfast. Convenient close to railway station with an easy 8-10 min walk.
- Alfred R (8/5): Good value for the money. - Good value for the money. Solid, modest, nice sitting room w magazines and current papers, great cheerful helpful older couple there in the afternoon. Not fancy. Very clean and neat. Easy walking distance of the station and Hertz and by the River Orne. Restaurants nearby and walking distance of centre de ville. Room was fine, smallish.
- Alasdair (8/5): - No complaints.
Just what we needed.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel wasn't bad considering the price, however I was unaware when booking that it was located in a not very desirable area. We walked around and around and found limited food options. The room was small but clean and tidy. No tea or coffee services in room. Reception staff friendly. No parking offered.
- Dean (4/5): Dont leave anything behind in the room - Booked in at 10.00pm was given keys and told there’s the lift.
Breakfast was extra and we were not impressed as there was just minimal selection for the price we would have been better off going to a local cafe for coffee and pastries.
When we checked out at 10am we drove to our next hotel 200 KM down through France and my wife noticed she had forgotten her watch. I emailed the hotel to ask if a watch had been handed in at approximate 7pm and the following day I had a reply to say yes.
I’m not sure if I hadn’t asked if they would have called or emailed me to say they had found a watch though.
When I said I would collect the following day at 10.00pm I had a email to say yes this is fine. But when I arrived no one knew anything even after a few phone calls to bosses / managers no one knew anything. After about 40 mins the watch apeared first on some where.... overall not impressed..
- James (8/5): Friendly Hotel - Very helpful staff and well run hotel. The only complaint was that it was quite a noisy street (and a very loud party on one night). Double glazing meant that you could block out a lot of the noise but no fresh air as there was no air conditioning. We were offered a quieter room after the loud party night but it would have cost an additional 20 Euros per night.
- Ros (8/5): Overnight stay - Very convenient for overnight stop after ferry crossing and for continuing journey the next day. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Room spotless, bed comfortable. Only problem was noise from street, from people coming in/out of club and all-night shop opposite. Weather very hot so we needed to have window open which meant not much sleep.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very noisy Friday, Saturday, and even Sunday night outside due to the party scene on the street. Closed the windows, then it was very hot.
The hotel itself was very good.
- Michael (6/5): No frills room, poor car park.20 mins walk to city - The car park is via some locked gates to the rear. My car was ok but it isn't in the best of locations - run down flats and could be ope to crime. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was very hot with no air conditioning. Outside is a club which stays open late and people leaving make a lot of noise. Stayed 1 night.
- Dianne (8/5): Has all the basics - We needed a conveniently located hotel room with the basics. We were delighted that the room, although small and simple, had everything we needed: big bed, hangers, little desk and chair, tv, hair dryer, etc. The staff was really great and the little breakfast was perfect each morning with tons of options for cold breakfast, including hard boiled eggs, fresh baguettes, fresh apples, etc.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice hotel - Small quante hotel. 10 minute walk to train station, 15 minutes to castle & city center. Rooms small but clean. Hotel staff was excellant - very helpful !
- Val and Frank (10/5): - Close to rail station Nice Breakfast, Friendly and clean facility. Helpful Directions
- Mary (8/5): Good value - Larger than usual bathroom and bedroom. Great staff. Helpful. Would stay again.
- James (10/5): A gem of a city - Caen is a jewel with lots to see.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Affordable, good for quick overnight - The hotel was clean and had a decent breakfast. The rooms are small and have no air conditioning, which wasn't nice on the day we were there, though we didn't stay much in the rooms. Overall, a good place to stay for a quick trip.
- Glen (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Daryl (8/5): Great hotel, great prices, close to everything. - Staff were impeccable, they made no excuses for our ignorance at being typically English not speaking any other language and we got through it, help with places to eat, places to drink and in general were brilliant all round really good experience and when back in Caen there's goona be only one place for me to stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good Lauch Pad for Normandy - In a nice, quiet area of Caen, with a super nice gentleman who checked me in twice, later at night, when I was tired and just needed to get to bed quickly. Room was fine, bed comfie.
- stav (8/5): Nice for the d day beaches - Hotel that does what it says on the tin
Breakfast only continental but loads of it
- mike (8/5): Hotel Bristol : Caen, France - Surprisingly nice. Hard to find because it is on a one way street. Night clerk spoke English and very friendly.
No refrigerator and small lift. Free parking was around to corner. OK breakfast for $9 euros. Morning clerk cute and helpful but limited English. Caen, France has a race track (hippodrome), always something going on. Lots of history and old buildings to see. 2.5 hr. drive from Paris
- William (6/5): - Nice little hotel but it does not have A/C I must have missed it in my research. It wasn't very hot but my wife needed A/C we ended up moving to another hotel with A/C. The staff was very friendly and helpful and suggested another hotel. It wasn't a bad area a little out of the way from the center of town. I would suggest it if A/C wasn't a requirement.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location, close to train station.
Friendly staff and confortable bed
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was on the small side but OK.
- Doug (8/5): Good value - Good value . Older facility but rooms are updated . Within 10 minutes walk of good restaurants. Unfortunately many were closed due to the owners taking August family holidays.
- CAMELIA (6/5): A hotel for one night - The room was very small, the door of the bathroom îs transparent and in front of the room there are bars, much noise during the night. The elevator only FOR 2 people. The breakfast îs good, with Ham, cheese, pastries, fresh orange juis, etc.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice and comfortable stay - The hotel was quaint and very comfortable to stay at. It is not very spacious in terms of walking space but our room came with a double bed and there was plenty of space for suitcase, side desks and a table and chair.
Staff was very friendly and helpful at all times and their Wifi is amazing for a hotel as it is always available and very fast. The bathroom is rather small and we were glad we brought our own shampoo and shower gel but then again the hotel is cost friendly.
There is no air conditioning in the hotel so this is something to look out for as it can get a bit hotter in the room in the summer.
Great restaurants nearby! Central Caen and the castle are just minutes away as well as the train/bus station!
- Cathy (8/5): Enjoyed Caen. Good Normandy hub - Super friendly and helpful staff clean room and reasonable rate
- Michael (10/5): Overnight stay - An excellent place to stay overnight off the ferry
- John (10/5): Great Bristol. - Perfect hotel that did everything we asked for.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We picked this hotel because it was close to the train station and in Caen everything is easy to get to. This was our rest point for touring Normandy and the city of Caen.Nice small little hotel with a nice breakfast. Room was a little small but no big deal. Desk staff very helpful and some nice souvenirs also for sale.
- Susan (4/5): - The hotel is across the street from a billiards bar which empties out at 2:00AM. People stay in front of the hotel for upto two more hours. There is no ventilation so you have to leave the windows open so the noise is a big problem!!!! Could not recommend this hotel.
- Leslie (8/5): - Not much room in the room small shower room
Clean nothing fancy
- Verified traveler (10/5): Directly across from the Louvre on the Seine - Paris was lovely as always - wonderful to tour in the late spring versus the crowds in the summer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice little hotel, very friendly staff. Easy walk to explore the city. Our bathroom was tiny, but the one in our sons' room was fine.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel, walking distance from train station - We stayed 1 night as a stopover. Comfortable rooms, awesome breakfast!
- Michael (8/5): Good location and value for money - Very clean, well presented hotel, staff very good, the street can get quite noisy in the early hours
- Jan (8/5): Very welcoming hotel. - Enjoyed our stay in this well located hotel. Staff without exception, were more than helpful, especially as we had our ferry cancelled and arrived early in the morning. Rooms, although not particularly spacious, were bright and clean; breakfast was good with a plentiful variety of food.
Would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.
- humphrey (8/5): swell-sited in pleasant quartier - reception staff in particular worked above the call of duty to help us with a personal problem
