Guest Reviews
- Brit (10/5): -
- Moneen (10/5): - Beautiful house. Very comfortable. Attention to detail. Very good service.
- Suzie (10/5): -
- Jansen (10/5): Great stay ! - The garden is beautiful with some chairs to enjoy the quiet surroundings. Very spacious apartment. The bathroom is downstairs, but there is also a toilet upstairs. Good location for cycling. If you love that go for the Lake Dunstan trail which is fabulous. It is a 7 minutes walk to the (4) restaurants in Clyde.
The host is extremely helpful and makes good eggs for breakfast! The only thing is that the apartment is a bit out dated but it is a minor thing.
- Peter (9/5): Great location - Great breakfast and relaxed setting
- Ian (10/5): -
- Shaun (9/5): - Convenient & quiet location. Beautiful garden & great host. Comfortable beds.
- Janette (9/5): Close to bike trails. Cycle friendly - Quiet comfy and close to the bike trails Nothing
- michelle (6/5): A bit disappointed - The bed was extremely comfortable and the setting is lovely. Euan wasnt particularly welcoming which is a surprise after reading the other revues. He wasnt interested in any conversation or attempts to engage with him until the next morning when others were also present. Seemed a bit odd.
- Karen (10/5): Absolutely amazing. Loved my stay there such a perfect little spot - Euan was so lovely! Knew a lot about them local area as well further around the south island. He had the room nice and warm when I got there and was super friendly! Beautiful set up in a beautiful location Nothing!
- Steve (10/5): Great place to stay in Clyde. - The location is excellent, and the host is great. A heated towel rail would be nice to enable the towels to dry in colder months. Is able to be worked around.
- Steve (10/5): Was a great stay cool old house good food will be back - Was so good the owner was so friendly house was warm bed was great what more could you wont Nothing
- Shiree (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly service and lovely comfortable accommodation
- Neil (9/5): Superb - Very friendly host and a cosy place to stay
- Amira (9/5): A beautiful historic building, very comfortable and well presented and the host was excellent with delicious breakfast - Beautiful location and well presented.
- Amanda (4/5): Disappointing stay when I was really looking forward to staying…. - Comfy beds
Great shower Feeling uncomfortable generally during our stay.
Told we asked for too much breakfast (yoghurt, fruit and eggs)
No variety for breakfast. Not asked how we wanted eggs cooked. I didn’t eat all my accompaniments on the first morning so it wasn’t on my plate the next 3 mornings. Felt like I was a naughty child being punished for not eating everything on my plate.
Not offered juice or coffee ( only if we asked)
No fire / heating in lounge or breakfast room. 5 degrees in mornings. Host did have a fire in his kitchen though!
Old dated dark cold lounge room. Not a place you wanted to hang out.
I would turn the light on in hallway when going out for dinner, host always turned it off so then we would return to a pitch black house.
- Dorothy (8/5): Very relaxing. Great chats with Euan over breakfast. - Breakfast was great and varied. Continental or cooked available. Peaceful location right next to the river. Walking distance to the centre of town. Lots of wineries in the neighbourhood, and great restaurants in town. Lots of great walking trails in the region too, easy to get to from Hartley's. Our room didn't have a connected bathroom, which we would have preferred. However, the one we had was spacious and had everything we needed.
- Robyn (10/5): Hartley Homestead Boutique Bed & Breakfast is a great place to stay. - Amazing breakfast, extremely comfortable accommodation.
- .jenjen. (10/5): Beautiful stay in this Clyde gem - The homestead is beautiful and Euan is lovely and super helpful. Nothing!
- Abdy (8/5): Very good - Great breakfast, lovely garden, friendly host, strong and hot shower Room a bit small to spend time in, though there was a comfortable shared lounge
- Dougal (9/5): Period BnB style accommodation with excellent cooked breakfast - Lovely rooms. Quiet and comfortable with superb bathrooms.
Grounds are great, but we didn't make much use of the location per se.
Safe, offstreet, storage for our bikes.
The cooked breakfast, and decent coffee, was a highlight. No complaints
- Kate (10/5): Excellent - Everything. Euan is an excellent host.
- Sara (10/5): Fabulous, we enjoyed our stay. - Beautiful house and gardens bordering the river and we loved our stay. Evan cooked a delicious breakfast. Nothing.
- Amie (9/5): Very relaxing - Garden
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jenny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jeremy (10/5): Beautiful home with excellent host and breakfasts. - A lovely room with a comfortable bed in a house with spectacular garden with seating overlooking Clutha river. Friendly host who made us delicious breakfasts including excellent home made bread. It’s quite dark in the room which could be improved one day with new lighter carpet and curtains, but this is a minor detail.
- Hazel (10/5): Fabulous location and accommodation in Clyde! - Hartley Homestead is a quiet, comfortable place to stay. Euan is very friendly and helpful. The bed was so comfortable, it was like sleeping on a cloud! We enjoyed the breakfasts and sitting in the backyard area in the afternoons. The location is a great base if you are cycling in the area. We charged our e-bikes easily outside the garage and it was very safe having the bikes in the yard. The quail family wandering around the yard was a bonus to watch.
- Toni (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heather (9/5): A very enjoyable overnight stay in this lovely home of versioning the river, and Euan’s cooked breakfast was such a trea - High quality accommodation, delicious breakfast, friendly and helpful host.
- Madison (10/5): Beautiful homestead with a comfortable bed, excellent location, and a delicious hot breakfast - I had a wonderful stay at this beautiful homestead. The property is charming and well-maintained, offering a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The bed was incredibly comfortable—large and perfect for a restful night’s sleep. The location was ideal, with easy access to the main historical street while still offering a peaceful, serene environment. Breakfast was a highlight—delicious, hot, and freshly cooked, paired with a barista coffee that was the perfect start to the day. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with great hospitality. The steps leading up from the shower to the main living area felt a bit awkward and could be challenging for those with mobility issues. That said, the thoughtful provision of dressing gowns and slippers made the transition a bit easier and more comfortable. It’s a small detail, but worth noting for anyone who might prefer more seamless access.
- Christy (10/5): Exceptional - We had such a fabulous stay, the bed was sooooooo comfy and the retreat had everything we needed. The cooked breakfast was superb, and Euan was an excellent host. To top it all off the location couldn’t have been better, walking distance to everything in Clyde. We will be back!
- Geoffrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (9/5): A wonderful property that exceeded expectations, perfect for our last night in NZ. Excellent value. - A beautiful older style renovated property set in a wonderful garden and a few minutes walk from the centre of Clyde. Breakfast was excellent and the host Ewan was terrific. Our room and ensuite was large and luxurious.
- Diane (8/5): Lovely, peaceful spot, friendly, great breakfast, beautiful garden, dog-friendly. - The breakfast was easily the best we”ve had at a B&B before. The flavours were wonderful together, freshly prepared by Euan. The property has an amazing garden with a view across to the opposite hill. Euan is a lovely, friendly person and made us and our dog feel very welcome. The heat pump in the room kept us warm during a freak snowstorm! The split-level accommodation means that the shower is on the ground floor, away from the unit upstairs. But it wasn’t a problem. There’s a second toilet upstairs which is handy.
- Lynne (9/5): Very enjoyable and peaceful stay. Thank you - Great breakfast, peaceful Location All good
- Kayleigh (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful grounds, delicious breakfast, super comfortable bed and Euan was such a fabulous host! He made us feel so so welcome ☺️ The ONLY thing was the sheer curtains in the bedroom; would have been good to have been able to fully close the lined curtains that were there but the rails didn’t stretch the whole way across so they were more for decorative purposes than functional. It was very minor though in comparison to everything else hence the full score!
- Ian (8/5): Very Central and quite, nice spot. - I thought the Breakfast was Great if you wanted a cooked one. The Breakfast when not wanting a cooked one without eggs. I would have liked a choice of breads and some fruit to put on cereal with yoghurt. More choice would have been nice.
- Tracy (9/5): Great company and fab place to stay - Thankyou Eyan for going above and beyond and dropping us off on our bike ride The spa wasn’t hot after our ride I think there was a problem
- Denise (10/5): great spot, great weather and people. - very friendly and interesting host, felt like we had known him for years. Highly recommend..
- Marlise (9/5): Superb - Amazing host
- Michael (9/5): Superb -
- Andrea (9/5): Extremely comfortable. - The cooked breakfast was absolutely scrumptious. Homemade breads and spreads were a great touch. Euan was very hospitable and made us feel very comfortable in his home. Beautiful homestead and garden and the location to the town was brilliant.
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Carol (8/5): Very good -
- Felicity (10/5): Exceptional - Evan is a great host. Location excellent in a quiet Clyde street. Beautiful setting with well looked after gardens. Plenty of parking space. Room a great size, comfortable and cosy. Breakfast delicious - very fancy egg on toast with yummy relish and baked tomatoes. Extra toast and home made apricot/wild thyme jam. Coffee good too. We really liked the shared breakfast with other guests too.
- Pip (10/5): We were welcomed and able to use the homestead living room to make some personal medical apt - super breakfast, eggs bacon spinach and homegrown tomatoes nothing
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional - Very comfortable and relaxing. Walk to town for stores and restaurants. Enjoyed the grounds and Euan made a nice breakfast.
- Debra (8/5): Peaceful Homestay on the Clutha River - Euan’s B & B was a delightful old heritage home on the banks of the Clutha River. He greeted us warmly upon our arrival and showed us around his home and gorgeous garden before giving us directions into town and some dinner suggestions. The following morning he served us a delicious home cooked breaky after a comfortable, peaceful night’s sleep. Nothing. This B & B is exactly as portrayed online.

- Becky (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helen (9/5): Lovely place, very clean, tidy and well appointed. - Lovely area, we were in the self-contained unit which was well appointed. Great quality linen and facilities and the cooked breakfast was AMAZING! It's a bit dark upstairs and in the house (being an older house) so you probably wouldn't want to hang out there during the day - but that's about it!
