• Friedrich (10/5): - Einzigartige Lage auf dem Grootbergplateau. Einzeln stehende Chalets, alle mit tollem Blick in die Landschaft. Sehr ruhig. Schöne Terrasse am Hauptgebäude. Gesetztes Abendessen statt nervigem Buffet. Sehr gute, abwechslungsreiche Küche. Auffahrt mit 4x4 problemlos. Personal mit gebremster Herzlichkeit. Neue Matratzen wären schön.

• Joanna (8/5): All about the view - The positioning of the lodge is its defining freaturr as the views are spectacular and available from every room and the main building. The quality of the food was high with a set menu and 'fine dining' feel. The track up to the lodge is steep and a 4x4 is needed if you don't take the lodge's lift. The activities offered are a little limited and at the upper end of the prices of other lodges. The overall value for money is less than some lodges, but if you like views it's worth it.
• Marina (10/5): - Amazing views at the lodge, and amazing activities. We went on the rhino tracking activity and it was incredible: we saw a rhino mom and her baby, and we actually followed them on foot for a little while. We also loved the guided walk & sundowner drive, which both had unbelievable views. Even sitting on the patio at the lodge, the views were stunning. Highly recommend this place. Only thing to be aware of is that the internet doesn’t work in the individual rooms, only at the main lodge (and even there it’s spotty). However, with such views you don’t need internet!
• Petra (6/5): - Clearly overrated accommodation. Only the view is very good. Otherwise: Staff partly overworked and mostly not very helpful and friendly. Food mediocre. Room simple, bathroom (shower head, drain) very dirty, cheapest sanitary equipment. All in all, at best recommended as a stopover if you can't find anything else.

• Luigi (8/5): - Posizione molto esclusiva in cima ad altopiano. Condizioni della struttura un po’ da rinfrescare, così come la colazione troppo semplice per il prezzo.
• Daniela (4/5): Wichtige Details werde im Beschrieb nicht erwähnt - Leider wurden wir in unseren Erwartungen arg enttäuscht. Viele Dinge die in dieser Preisklasse selbstverständlich sind wurden nicht erfüllt. Die Koffer mussten fast ohne Hilfe über einen unwegsamen Steinweg zu Chalet getragen werden. Das Chalet hatte keinerlei Strom, sodass die Handys im Hauptgebäude aufgeladen werden mussten. Die Lodge bietet nichts als eine gute (nicht wahnsinnig gute) Aussicht. Die Auffahrt zur Lodge ist relativ gefährlich und sollte nur von geübten 4x4 Fahrern in Angriff genommen werden. Wir sind bereits nach einer Nacht vorzeitig wieder abgereist
• Peter (10/5): - Grossartige Lodge mit fantastischer Aussicht. Wir waren nur für eine Nacht hier, hätten uns aber einen längeren Aufenthalt gewünscht. Einzig die Tatsache dass der Pool infolge Bauarbeiten nicht in Betrieb war hat den Gesamteindruck etwas getrübt. Nichtsdestotrotz kann ich die Lodge uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.

• herman (6/5): mooie plek, matige lodge - Fantastische ligging op een bergrug met uitzicht op het dal. De laatste 800 meter omhoog is een uitdaging en alleen met 4 x 4 te doen. Maar alternatief transport is aanwezig. Het personeel is vriendelijk, de hutjes zijn leuk bedacht maar klein en stoffig door het rieten dak. Er is geen enkel stopcontact in de hut, opladen in het hoofdgebouw. Het pad tussen de hutjes is hobbelig, goed uitkijken in het donker. Het diner was ronduit slecht. Ontbijt (als pakket) ook maar matig. Zwembad lijkt leuk maar is klein en maar 4 bedjes. Prijs/kwaliteit in mijn optiek slecht. Wifi in het hoofdgebouw was matig.

Pro or con depending on what type of traveler you are: extremely limited wifi and power plugs, a very steep ascent to get to the property (we had a 4WD but if you don’t they will help you get to the lodge)

• Rui (10/5): Superb hotel! - This is an excellent place to rest and recuperate between etosha and skeleton coast park. The view is amazing. The staff is friendly and very helpful. This is also an initiative by an npo so you are helping to local community by staying here as well. The room is beautiful, cozy and just fantastic! No power outlet in the room (because the lodge is next to the cliff!) But you can charge your electronics at the reception. The check in was a positive experience. Theres transfer up the steep slope to the lodge from the parking lot. They have welcome drink and the staff will walk you through the place. Free breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner come with the charge makes it super worth it! The staff will also sing and dance to welcome you during dinner. Theres a communal staff tip box at reception so you dont have to tip everyone separately. We highly recommend this place and will definitely come back if we go to Namibia again!

• Aubry (10/5): - Personnel très accueillant, bon restaurant, possibilité de booker des excursions sur place. Si vous souhaitez faire les activités au départ du matin (par exemple safari éléphants) il faut au minimum rester 2 nuits car elles durent une journée. N’ayant pris qu’une nuit nous avons pu faire uniquement une balade 4x4 sur le plateau à 17h pour le coucher de soleil. La vue depuis les chambres du lodge est à couper le souffle! Wifi très bonne mais uniquement disponible dans le restaurant et terrasse.

• Adam (10/5): Fantastic lodge in a breathtaking location. - We stayed here for 2 nights and it was amazing. The pictures don't do the lodge justice. It's in a stunning location and the staff are awesome. They even sang for us one night. The guided walks, tracking and drives were amazing and we wish we had stayed for 3 nights rather than 2. The food was good, and the WiFi was patchy (restricted to 150mb per session). We stayed in the family room which was fantastic value for 4 people, however, it's worth noting that the two bedrooms and bathroom are open ceiling, so they have no privacy (hence family).

• Julia (10/5): Uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen - Top Ausblick - Jederzeit 100 % zu empfehlen; gigantische Aussicht, tolle Zimmer - alle mit diesem umwerfenden Ausblick inmitten von nur Natur; außerordentlich guter Service - wir hatten einen platten Reifen und der Reifen wurde um 17 Uhr - ohne große Diskussionen - vom Hotel zum nächsten Dorf / Werkstatt gebracht und war am nächsten Morgen um 7 Uhr repariert wieder da! Sehr familiäre Atmosphäre, insgesamt uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen.
• MARIA (8/5): All you need is a mosquito net! - Grootberg lodge was our 2 nights' stop from two long days of driving. However, we spent two sleepless nights fighting against mosquitoes....! No matter how much I could spray myself with repellent, they kept coming back biting and flying by my ears! It was an absolute nightmare. All they needed was a mosquito net, like all the other places where we stayed, much eco friendly than the spray repellent.

• nancy (8/5): mooie lodge met schitterend uitzicht! - Het laatste stukje met de auto is een uitdaging, maar er is een servies die je wil rijden. Aangekomen in hotel goede serieus van personeel, onze klep van de auto was stuk en ze hebben geprobeerd te maken. Zwembad is comfortabel en je kunt genieten van het schitterend uitzicht. Eten was erg lekker! Daarnaast bieden ze leuke safari's aan echter hier geen gebruik van gemaakt doordat we maar 1 nacht hier verbleven.

Individual bungalow facing the valley as per the photos advertised. Pool available. If you are not doig any rhino or elephant track there is not so much to do aroud but gor a night stop you will enjoyed.

• Verified traveler (6/5): - Der Empfang war kühl und unprofessionell, schlechtere Zimmerkategorie als gebucht und vorab bezahlt wurde zugeteilt und erst nach Protest und eigenem Buchungsnachweis das bessere Zimmer gewährt. Die Gastronomie hat sehr enttäuschendes Niveau. Die Qualität der Speisen und die Portionsgrössen entsprechen keinesfalls dem Preisnniveau der Lodge. Sauberkeit im Restaurant und Zustand der Zimmereinreichtung vor allem im Bad sind dringend zu verbessern. Zimmersteckdose zum Aufladen von Telefon etc. oder für die Nutzung von Rasierer/Föhn sind nicht vorhanden. Außer einem spektakulären Ausblick bleibt uns von dieser Lodge nichts Gutes in Erinnerung.

• Verified traveler (8/5): Panorama excellent! - The panorama is wonderful! The road (last part) to the lodge is very difficult and you need a 4x4 car for this! But the people of the lodge can take you also to the lodge. In that case you can park your car at a lower parking spot.
• Verified traveler (2/5): WAY Overpriced!Terribly Disappointing.Inexcusable. - Wrong from the start: The reception staff failed to provided us with accurate information over the phone before our arrival and also neglected to give us vital advice at check-in.We were not told that there were NO electrical outlets in the rooms so we were unable to charge our phones,cameras,etc.(In fact, you must leave all your valuable devices at the reception desk to be charged overnight!)You will also not have any hot water for your coffee or tea in the morning unless you know to ask for a flask the night before (again we were not told!).Dinner was a catastrophe.No ambiance at all in the dining room.Very small portions,overcooked inedible meat (no options),everything drowning in a pool of slimy grease.To make matters even worse,the activity guide,'Ernest', behaved very badly and disrespectfully.He bluntly and quite rudely informed us that there were no 'excursions' available to us.This turned out to be a total fabrication.Yes, he actually lied smugly to our face, concocting some absurd, rambling, lengthy story about how the safari vehicles were broken down,how guests staying two nights had priority,etc. Utterly pathetic, shockingly unprofessional, and totally unacceptable.We saw the manager about these awful and glaringly dodgy missteps, she listened, but the damage was too deep and our stay was ruined. This place requires a HUGE investment in money, time and effort needed to get there and out again, plus suffering The Very Worst Roads in Namibia. You have been warned.
• saskia (6/5): - Location is stunning. Spotting the dessert elephant a great gift! The waiting staff is far below expectations. no enthusiasm and no drive. It really feels like the women don't have a pleassure working and everything comes with sighing, moaning and groaning. Quality of the food is also not in line with the price you pay for the accommodation.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Leider etwas in die Jahre gekommen. - Lodge liegt in einzigartiger Umgebung, Personal herzlich und sehr zuvorkommend, Essen absolut in Ordnung. Leider ist alles schon recht verwohnt, im Zimmer keine Steckdose und das in vielen Unterkünften übliche Bad ohne richtige Türe zum Zimmer.
• Kathleen (10/5): Spectacular setting! - Grootberg Lodge was just spectacular. The view is unbeatable. The staff was super friendly. Food amazing - considering also the remote location. It is worth the drive. You'll already see game on your way up there. Make sure you'll stay two nights at least. We just stayed one and it wasn't enough. We couldn't understand how people complained about the pathway to the lodges in their review. You are in Africa and on top of a mountain - you know it is not a high heel vacation.

• simmonds (6/5): OK for an overnight stop but no longer - The location is stunning, on the edge of a high escarpment.However, compared to several lodges we stayed at throughout Namibia, Grootberg has only basic facilities, only average food and is overpriced. The escorted trips are particularly expensive.So, OK as an overnight stopover between Etosha and the Coast, but don't stay longer.
