Guest Reviews
- GINA (10/5): - The owner was accommodating to meet our needs for late check in and a very early check out, making the process very easy and hassle-free.The property location was right in the middle of the historic area within walking distance to the major landmarks. The room was clean and very pretty. All of the basic essentials for a stress-free short stay were readily available. We really enjoyed our stay in Rome at Calamatta Guest House.
- Matthew (10/5): - Staff was very friendly and accommodating. I showed for my reservation nearly an hour after reception was supposed to close and the staff waited to make sure we got settled in. Great service and location!
- HAO YAN (10/5): - Overall had a great stay here with my girlfriend. Valerio was very helpful and responded to our inquiries right away. Would recommend!
- Mihai (8/5): - Excellent location, clean room
- Marina (10/5): - We really enjoyed our stay, it felt like we were staying at a loved one’s house. The property was clean, the staff absolutely amazing and welcoming. It was well located, and we were able to do most things walking. We’d stay there again for sure!
- Judith (10/5): - Second time staying here, Pamela is very helpful!
Great location, simple and very nice place.
Easy access and great neighborhood
- Tiffiny (10/5): - Lovely!
- ELVEDINA (10/5): - Great Location , walkable to all sightseeings, clean and comfortable
- Oscar (8/5): Great location but difficult to sleep - The hotel is very well located and the staff is amazing, always responsive and attentive to the guests needs and questions. The only but about this hotel is the noise that you can hear from the inside. Literally we heard the other room toilet and shower, and the cleaning boy at early hours in the morning.
- Francois (10/5): - Its was amazing. The most beautiful room with great coffee. Noel was awesome so friendly and he paid special attention to detail and the room was spotless. I highly recommend this place
- Timothy (10/5): - Perfect place and the sweetest people! Could not recommend more!
- Mathew (8/5): - We really appreciated Pamela and Daniella's friendliness and information for surrounding sites and restaurants to visit. There was also a shared balcony on the second floor that was fun to use when you wanted to have a glass of wine or light meal. Location was perfect for us to visit the Spanish steps, Pantheon etc.
- Miguel (10/5): - excelente ubicacion y servicio
- Amy (10/5): - We were welcomed by Pamela who was very friendly and showed us how to get to various places around Rome. She gave us a map and told us bus routes and how long walking would take. She was very knowledgeable. She let us know about the summer events down by the river with music, shopping, food…
The room was clean with a little coffee station, plenty of towels and the AC was amazing!!
Calmara BB is in an excellent central location, yet down a quiet street.
- Maximilian (10/5): - The room was very nice and the hotel itself is in a prime location to visit the countless sites located in Rome. Pamela was so helpful and I would suggest asking her for food recommendations as we got around to three of hers and were pleased with them all!
- Maritza (10/5): - Very satisfied
- Ruby L (10/5): Excellent location! - Our stay was excellent
. Very friendly and helpful staff. I made an error with my check in date but luckily we were accommodated. Daniella and Pamela were awesome!!! They helped us make our stay very comfortable. Thank you ladies!
The rooms were big and comfortable and very clean ! Bathroom is a comfortable size.
There is a rooftop terrace you can hang out and have wine. The amenities were well thought of to make your stay comfortable.
Close to everything ... restaurants, cafes, public transformation very accessible.
- Lindsey (10/5): - Was in a very central location and staff was always willing to help you out.
- Howard (8/5): - The B n B was good, room was adequate, shower small for most, breakfast not U.S style expresso and a crescent roll. You can not hail a cab you need to go to a taxi stand not very convenient, closest one is 20 minute walk
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The owner Simone is very nice and helpful. It has great free breakfast. It is also close to a 24hr self service laundromat which is super convenient for travelers.
- Nathan (10/5): Perfect location - Amazing location. Walkable to all the main sights. Staff was very helpful recommending places to eat and ways of getting around. Really great stay!
- Derek (10/5): - The staff was very nice and welcoming. They gave us tips and suggestions on arrival and made themselves available to us. The location is great!
- Zahi (10/5): - Amazing, would definitely come back when I visit Rome
- Hashem (10/5): - This property is located in the best possible area in Rome, everything in walking distance, it was very clean and quiet, and the staff specially Pamela was very helpful and friendly. Absolutly a yes for the next time.
- Maddison (10/5): - Customer service was wonderful!
- Uyen (10/5): - This place made you feel like you were actually living like a local in Italy, as if you were staying at your nonnas place. The location is amazing, easy walk to Vatican Area only 10-15min walk. Easy to just find a Line Scooter using the app and use it to get around Rome. Best for people not staying too long but need a convenient and comfortable place to sleep
- siu kin andrew (10/5): - The water pressure is good, air conditioning is good, the location is good and the staff is too nice to provide me a portable fridge and let me store my luggage after check out
- Makayla (10/5): Loved It! - My friends and i had a great time! Great service and easy check in. Room was clean and everyone was so nice! Though it was across the river, it was still pretty close to all the action about a 15 min walk to the trevi fountain. Highly recommend.
- Mihaela (10/5): - Very clean apartment,convenient
location within walking distance to main attractions.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The position is fantastic, right next to the Vatican and within 30-40 minutes walk from everything else.
Times aren’t flexible in terms of checking in or out, however the staff is very open. We had a flight change at the last minute and the receptionist was accommodating because we had to leave very early in the morning.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect stay - Little things like advice on what to visit, kettle and tea/coffee, cutlery and biscuits provided. Our room for 3 was perfect. Close to bus to airport too.
- Namhea (10/5): - This is my second stay at the Guest House Calamatte. It’s a great place to stay. The place is so close to all the important places to visit in Rome. Pamela is great helper to get around Rome.
- Surya (8/5): - Great location and our stay was excellent.
Pamela was very polite and helpful.
- Manuel (10/5): - Calamatta's staff is super friendly, nice, and helpful. We could not be happier staying at this nice hotel. The bedroom is cozy, elegant, and modern. Walking distance to Roma's center, Vatican, shops, restaurants, bars, grocery stores, and a park.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Location! - Great location, walking distance from everything. The place is quiet, clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.
- LeahW (10/5): - Location was amazing, room was comfortable and very clean. Pamela was a lovely host and made sure I was taken care of. I enjoyed breakfast down the street at Il Catanese. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again!
- Harish (8/5): Decent stay near the Vatican - This is probably the best located place we have ever stayed in, a kilometer from the Vatican and 3 km from the Coliseum. The room itself is quite pleasant and the bed is nice. The A.C. is old and it was quite warm so we did have a few issues there but we were out most of the day so it didn't bother us too much. The housekeeping was pretty fine and we had no issues there either. The room was kept clean and the bathroom was decent with the Roman bidet system but there was tissue paper as well.
The only major issue we had is that we informed the reception (after many phone calls) that we would arrive at 10 PM. We were exactly 4 minutes late and he had left locking us out (this "guest house" is a B&B and located in a building that has a street facing door that was locked). Luckily some other guests were standing outside right then and they let us in. 15 minutes later the host walked in, showed us to our rooms and then left. We didn't appreciate that.
The breakfast is also a joke. What they call "breakfast" is actually at a neighboring cafe and it consists of 1 croissant, 1 warm(ish) cup of coffee and 1 glass of juice. That's all there is to their breakfast!
Despite these hiccups we could see ourselves staying there again if we visited Rome again.
- Cody (10/5): true 5-star stay - This was truly a 5-star stay - the most helpful welcome from Pamela, walking us through a map and giving great recommendations for neighborhoods to visit. Fantastic centralized location, lovely little balcony to enjoy a morning, nice room with character and a great bathroom; just a really great stay. Our favorite of the whole trip.
- Catherine (10/5): Wonderful Stay! - Great place, centrally located with very helpful staff and comfortable beds! Our keys would not open the door to the rooftop which was a little disappointing and the staff are only there between 10am - 4 pm. Overall we had a wonderful stay! We would definitely recommend the Calamatta!
- Brian (8/5): - Location is Great!! Access to the major tourist sites was so convenient, * minute walk to piazza Navona. Very quiet location on a small low traffic side street near piazza Cavour and the Tiber. Our host was great and spoke perfect english! She arranged our Airport transfers including arrival and a 3:30 AM departure and they were flawless! The daily breakfast is provided by a nearby Bar/pasticceria and was great. The only negative that we noted is that the beds are FIRM.
- Valeri (10/5): Rome City Stay - City Center near the Vatican, Piazza Navone and the Pantheon area. Close to everything, Comfortable rooms, Bakery nearby provides breakfast, lots of good Trattorias and pizzerias nearby and a wine vending machine nearby for your unexpected party needs.
- Emma (10/5): Wonderful stay - 100% recommend! - We loved our stay at the B&B Calamatta and would definitely recommend it! The location is good - it’s the north west of the central city, the other side of the river which meant it wasn’t really busy outside. It was close enough to be able to walk everywhere - we got a taxi once to the colosseum and that was only because we were running late for our tour! Njce restaurants and a few shops near by - and breakfast at the cafe was always good! Only thing I would say is the breakfast is only a croissant, coffee and small orange juice so we often paid for something more substantial.
The room was clean and modern, with a comfy bed and great shutters to keep the room dark!
Staff were friendly and very helpful - the advice Pamela gave us at the start of the week was priceless and we used the map she gave us every day. She also helped us book our taxi back to the airport when I’d struggled with the Italian!
Lovely little terrace too - and a fridge with hot drinks available and biscuits put out everyday which was a really nice touch.
Would definitely return and recommend the B&B!
- Charles (8/5): I would do it again. - It was very nice, they took good care of me.
- Claudia (10/5): - Great accommodations the hostess was very helpful with her recommendations around Rome, great location.
- Philip (10/5): - It's a lovely place to stay. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was an old tradition room with a modern bathroom and really comfy bed. Location was perfect, we walked everywhere, no need trains or buses. We when we go back to Rome, we will book this place again.
- Nahal (10/5): - Great location (10-15mins walk to most of the sites), super clean, and the best part: the kind and knowledgeable staff there (Valeri, Pamela....also Daniela who would bring her puppy to play with our toddler son)! Yes the bathroom is narrow but not a big deal. There’s a working elevator so taking the stroller out everyday was not a hassle! Super safe and quiet neighbourhood. Can take the Sitbus from to/from airport for 6 euros and only about a 5-10mins walk from the stop to this guest house. Also only about a 12 euros taxi from Termini train station and 20mins bus to the Colosseum. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again and recommend to others!
- Angelina (8/5): Nice place to stay - Good place to stay, central area, comfortable bed. Breakfast was poor wasn't a good deal.
- Tammy (4/5): - The location is great, walking distance to everything! Staff was a late to let us in even though they said they would be there at checkin. The tile floors make the place extremely loud. You can hear everyone. This was problematic the first night when one of the neighbor rooms was up late partying. The following day we had a note saying we owed them more money?...never understood why. Finally, I setup a ride to the airport through the hotel. We got up and we’re waiting at 3am for the ride who never showed. After 30 min I called an Uber. Wasn’t an awful experience, just wouldn’t stay here again.
- Elaine (8/5): Central location - We were a bit dubious when we arrived at the guest house Calamatta but the staff were efficient and very courteous and helpful. The bed/pillows were comfortable, room adequate. No view to look at though. It was in a perfect position to explore the Sights and very close to the River and The Vatican. Breakfast was in a lovely cafe close by. We were more than happy staying there and would go again.
- Candace (10/5): It was like having a mini apt. In Rome! - This is like having an apartment in Rome, with none of the hassles, and all of the joys! Great service, super area, wonderful bed and thoughtful amenities!
Thank you Pamela so much for taking such good care of me.
I will be back.....!
- Fiona (8/5): Rome visit - We had a lovely visit to Rome and the guest house helped to make that even better.
Valerio was very helpful when we arrived and left and Calamatta is in a great position, although a bit noisy at night .
- Mary (8/5): - We found the room very comfortable for sleeping. The location was excellent, within walking distance of many sites in Rome. The staff was very welcoming and we loved the coffee bar where breakfast was provided. We would like to have had a few more toiletries and we thought the shower needed a little maintenance. Overall we would definitely stay there again.
- Thomas (8/5): Nice place but not clean - Good location, service and condition but the problem is the cleaning. Dust under beds and over lockers, dirt in shower, no new soap, toilet paper and problem with noisy guests (not youngsters).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very helpful in showing us how to get around the city to the places we wanted to visit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent location, we would return. - Excellent B&B, staff were great. Room and bathroom spotless.
Great location, we would definitely return.
My only note is that it was a tad noisy in the morning, as you can hear the comings and goings, traffic etc, but we are lazy on holiday and like to sleep in late
- Robert (8/5): - The location is walking distance to most attractions including The Vatican and to restaurants and cafes. Rooms were clean and the facilities were well secured. Safe also provided. The staff were helpful and went the extra step to explain the layout of the area.
- Verified traveler (4/5): NOT A 9.2 PLACE AT ALL. - We stayed in Guest House Calamatta September 14 till September 17 2018. First of all, Hotels.com has mixed real hotels and bed and breakfast on their website and can be confusing.
Persons in the office and the owner were very nice. The problem was the bathroom was so small hardly can turn around or bend. It was literally one and a half arms length. Breakfast was nominal and had to walk several blocks. No real kitchen no microwave available. The place was very stuffy and old. I doubt the grading posted as 9.2 is authentic. Booked taxi initially owner quoted 50 Euro, when confirmed the guy stated it will be 65 Euro. I had left my backpack and had to return from airport to pick it up, friends were able to wake the owner and get my backpack. I appreciate that. The taxi charged me 60 euro back and forth when I went back to get the backpack. Overall I will give a rating of 6 out of 10m never 9.2. I doubt that 9.2 is authentic. Price too high paid $155 per night without tax. Over-inflated price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - super
- Alison (10/5): Perfect place to stay. Highly Recommend - Great location Hotel, great staff, great Wifi, great air con, free in room safe, everything perfect. what makes this little hotel so good are all the little home comforts that the owner has taken time to make available, unlimited, free, different kinds of tea and coffee,a little kitchenette and balcony available on another floor, great for drinks or breakfast if you want to make your own, little cookies left out each evening for you plus much more. Lots of help with free maps for finding your way around. The only very slight thing that was a little inconvenient was that the breakfast that comes with the room is not served at this hotel, it is seved at a local cafe a 10 min walk from the hotel, you get a basic breakfast with the room which is just a single small coffee, one croissant and half glass of very sweet juice, for us it wasn’t really worth the walk up there for that especially when there is unlimited tea and coffee that you can take on the lovely balcony at the hotel, you can pop a piece of toast in the toaster or warm up one of your own croissants and enjoy it all on the balcony. Just a personal thing we opted to do. Thank you Calamatta for a lovey stay, Highly recommended.
- Walid (10/5): - The manager Valleri and his mother were extremely helpful and friendly
- Zanne (8/5): Excellent location -
4 day Rome trip the hotel is close to the Vatican but also an easy walk everywhere. The staff were very helpfully with directions and restaurant advice. They also leave afternoon snacks which we were very grateful of, and on request gave us a small fridge for the room,
- Amelia (10/5): Perfect place to stay in Rome - We love our stay at Calamatta. Everything is perfect! It's clean, good service, very comfort and good location. Special thank you to Pamela and Valerio. They are very helpful and nice. They gave us all the information about Rome, including good restaurants. Thanks again.
- LUIS (10/5): I will definitely go back - I feel like at home beautiful place , at walking distance of the Vatican , Pamela was super nice and gave us a lot of info were to go thank you .
and
- Jolene (10/5): - We had a very nice stay. A bit small but close to everything especially bus stop. Staff was very helpful and accommodating.
- Hal (10/5): - Excellent location to the Vatican and area. Was exactly what we wanted.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Such a cute location! - I loved staying at Guest House Calamatta! That staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It's located in the heart of the city and is easily accessible to the Vatican and Coliseum. I loved the feel of this place - it was so cute and perfect!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice, close to everything - Great place close to the Spanish steps, Trevi Fountain, Vatican & Piazza Navona.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed here for 6 nights in late May, and we were extremely happy with the accommodations. Rooms were clean, with comfortable beds, nice updated bathrooms, and in a great location to see the sights of Rome from. I can't say enough about Pamela and Valerio, they were so gracious and helpful with all our questions about how to get around and where to eat. Would definitely recommend to anyone, and would definitely stay here again!!
- Terry (10/5): Hotel Awesomeness!!!! - This place was awesome. The location to many of the Rome sites was no more than a 20 minute walk or less. Services were performed daily. Hosts were extremely responsive to guests needs. Room was large (for European) and clean and the water was hot. Breakfast is offsite and is a Basic breakfast (croissant, coffee, juice) but we would always purchase a little something extra (omlette was huge). There is also a common area patio for guests to use.
My only complaint was that the WiFi was spotty in our room, but not the common area. Valerio said that they recently had a new system installed and they would investigate.
I would definitely stay again!!!
- K (10/5): Great location, value, and staff - My wife and I are very glad we selected this location while exploring Rome. All the major sites are within easy walking distance, the value was great, and the location itself is adjacent to Rome's supreme court, making the area much more professional and much less touristy.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Location is great! Bathroom very small.
- Anastasia (10/5): Very nice B&B, perfect location - The location is very convenient, close to all attractions.
The room was quiet, clean and nicely decorated.
Pamela and Valerio were very helpful and gave us useful tips about restaurants and how we could get to all attractions. They made our stay an unforgettable experience; I highly recommend it!
- Tina (8/5): No service in this hotel! - There is no service in this hotel when you really need one. I got no hot water in the midnight that I was in airport street out for find my iPhone got back later. Called service didn’t pick up so switched different phonehe picked it up but hung up right away when he heard is me. I was frustrated that only wish to call Hotel.com hope they can help me to reach him but Got no answer either. So I have to take cold shower in the 50 F° weather. Second day Morning, everything back to normal so I switched to different room instead with nice smile on his face. Unbelievable!
- frances (8/5): Adequate lodging if you are exploring Rome - We wanted to stay near the Borghese. We chose a place that was within walking distance and found that there was a lot to see and do in this area. Location was great...
- Verified traveler (4/5): - nice close to the best Rome attractions
- Peter (10/5): Great place. - Great location as we walked comfortably to all major attractions. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Room very clean and tidy. Very quiet at night apart from other guests coming in late at night.
Highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice and friendly B&B in a great location. - Really nice welcome, with great information on places to go. Our room was a nice size with a refurbished bathroom. We really liked the amenities - kettle in room and small communal food area, plus lovely little terrace to sit out on. The breakfast place is around 5 mins away and a nice start to the day- coffee, juice and a croissant. Great situation - 10 mins walk to most sights (Colosseum 25 mins) and a pleasant neighbourhood to walk around day and night, with shops and bars close by.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The stay was actually very good with one big exception. I was overcharged for my city tax by double the actual cost, but once I figured it out they did refund it.
- Isabelle (10/5): Living like a local - Extremely helpful staff, great design of the rooms. Small room but has everything you may need during your stay. Breakfast is served in an authentic Italian cafe a few metres away. Price was really good for 2 nights, and we even got a free upgrade in our room. Overall, great experience !
- Sylvia (10/5): - We enjoyed our stayed at the B & B. The location is excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. We recommend this place.
- David (10/5): Our trip to Rome - Guest house Calamatta was brilliantly situated for the Vatican and the Collosseum and all the other ancient monuments. The guest house was very clean the rooms had just been renovated and the bedding and towels were changed every day. The staff were very helpful with restaurants and other places to visit.
- Dale (10/5): Great place to stay. - Excellent location with a short walk along the River Tiber to the Vatican. The room itself was comfortable and the shower fantastic. Found everything clean and fresh on our return each day with extra snacks in the hall for refreshments. Very good service from the staff, they even forgave us for getting lost and booking in a little later than expected with respect and understanding. We didn't have a problem talking a short walk to get our breakfast as it was a friendly place with good service.
Overall I would recommend this place to anyone wishing to stay close to the Vatican, castel and Trevi Fountain.
- Caitlin (10/5): Lovely B&B in a quiet part of town - I would happily go back to Guest House Calamatta. The room and building a little old (including a beautiful elevator from the 1920s!) but recently renovated. The hotel staff were most helpful and gave me a great impression of the Italian B&B experience. Love the little terrace and cookies in the afternoon! For the included breakfast, they give you tickets to a local caffeteria (coffee shop and bakery) which gave me a very genuine feel for the neighborhood. It's close to the Vatican/Castel Sant'Angelo and if you cross the river, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, etc—I was able to do a full walk down to Trastevere easily. But the neighborhood around Calamatta itself has a nice, business-y feel—accommodating to foreigners but not entirely tourists. Being right by the big courthouse, the area is well-trafficked and policed, so I felt safe, though sometimes the street was dark at night. Check out the church and the one-room Museo delle Anime del Purgatorio (Museum of the Souls in Purgatory) around the corner if you are interested in weird religious/spiritual phenomena.
- mark (10/5): One of the best. - Superb location, right by the Castle, and the Vatican. All other tourist sites within easy walking distance. Enthusiastic hosts who went out of their way to point out places of interest and recommend restaurants and bars nearby, of which there were plenty. Rooms were spacious and cleaned on a daily basis. There were some nice little touches like the cakes and sweets left in the entrance for us. We think this is probably the best B&B we have stayed in and would have no hesitation recommending. Book with confidence, you wont be disappointed.
- Jennifer (10/5): Highly recommend - Fantastic location, we walked everywhere and Vatican was only 10 mins away. Lovely room, everything we needed inc comfy bed and great shower plus lots of facilities. Would definitely visit again. Thanks to Pamela for such a warm welcome and great tips about making the most of our trip.
- Michael (10/5): Thanks So Much Pamela! - Liked it so much we rebooked it for one extra day. Though the rooms are nice and clean and the bed is hard (which I like) it's the Service that makes your stay a Joy. Pamela goes the extra mile to help with any of your needs be it tours, restaurants, transportation etc.. She does it all with a smile and humor. Location is close to all the main sites or bus stops. Nice touch with little snacks available in the hallway thoughout the day. Voucher given for Coffee,Juice and Croissant in the morning to a restaurant a short walk away. FYI pay a little extra and get the fresh squeezed juice. Can't wait to come back and sit on the patio with a botttle of wine after it warms up. Too Cold This Time! We Will Return!
- John (8/5): Comfortable and convenient for our visit - Arrived late in the evening. Room was fine. Staff were nice. Breakfast is at a nearby cafe and is the standard juice, coffee, croissant. No problems, no complaints, would stay here again. Liked the location, which is away from major and crowded tourist areas, but an easy walk to Vatican and most museums and sites. Lots of nearby restaurants. About a five or six block walk to the nearest subway station.

It is also near a lovely piazza with good restaurants. The breakfast is continental at a restaurant close by. The only drawback was the mattresses were too firm.

The room was beautiful and clean and the breakfast was plentiful. Some days, breakfast was a coupon for a nearby cafe, which we loved. The air conditioning worked great, and the overall atmosphere of the place was very charming.
