Guest Reviews
- martin (8/5): - Disappointed swimming pool not available during stay. Outside area has not been maintained. Nice large room updated air conditioner. Old Furniture but nice and comfortable Looks like slowly doing hotel up. Staff were excellent
- Toshiyuki (6/5): - wifi
- Dave (4/5): - I booked this hotel in the expectation that it would be cheap and cheerful. It was drab and the room was way dated. Also I booked this as the pool looked very inviting on the net, (temps here 28-30C) when I got there they told me the pool was out of service due to COVID. It was obviously being worked on. I only stayed one night (after paying only for two nights as the facilities advertised were not available.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (4/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Excellent location and easy to walk or catch rides and tours as needed
- PH (4/5): - Room dirty, provide used toiletries
- Thomas (8/5): Best priced hotel in the area. Was a 4 star hotel - Night Bazaar very near, Free breakfast was OK. King size bed very comfortable, bay windows great views, good size room, old and worm but still a great bargain for the price
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Hideto (6/5): old hotel - Building. Equipment Everything is an old hotel, it's better to reconstruct early.
Punktum.
- Carlos (2/5): - Extremely bad place. Please stay away of it. Very bad condition of the premise and extremely poor maintenance. Very poor cleaning. Very bad food.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Next to the river has a very good view. But hotel do not serve lunch and dinner which can eat outside .
- yuli (10/5): - Amazing.
- David (2/5): Hotel should be shut down for health hazard - Worst hotel stay in Thailand old toenail clippings and weeks of dirt on the carpets ineatable food for breakfast, coffee like dirt water
- Mike (8/5): Close to night bazaar. - Great location, good value. Could use hand towels in the room but they supplied larger towels to use. Bed mattresses were very hard. Same food every day for breakfast but not unexpected for price of the room. Couldn’t beat the location.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Hotel in desperate need of upgrade, room smell funny and curtains were in tatters, bedding old and torn but clean. Not recommended
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Rinaldo (2/5): Da incubo!
- Gerhard (6/5): - Einfaches Hotel
Nähe zum Nachtmarkt gut
Frühstück eher einfach
Leider nicht sehr gepfegt
- Verified traveler (6/5): - In my room shower is broken.Hotel insufficient car park
- Jose (4/5): Overdue old hotel to be demolished - It looks like it is overdue to be demolished and no one has invested a cent to upgrade old curtains l, bath tubes l, 25 year old TVs...
- Anna (6/5): - Gedateerd hotel, lekkend sanitair, slordige montage van vitrages. Heeft opknapbeurt nodig!
Ruime kamer, incl. eenvoudig ontbijt.
Goedkoop overnachten vlakbij Night Bazaar en Ping River!
- Verified traveler (2/5): want wifi? not here - Old, not kept up, when no wifi - hotel desk says " because of a lot of people at hotel...", area not as nice as old city, lights in room dont work, etc...
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent location good value basic breakfast and slightly old rooms but amazing value for money and very helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (6/5): -
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Wonderful location, right near shops and the river. We were right next to the Yi Peng/Loy Krathong festival. Room was large and provided basic necessities, but was very out dated and not the cleanest. Location 100% made up for it though!!
- Lyn (6/5): - Bed and linen clean, room staff helpful and cheery. Bathroom could do with some sprucing up and cleaning. All in all, probably represents what I paid for it.
- nathaliefagerstroem (2/5): Dunno if we should laugh or cry - It's the dirtiest hotel on our trip so far, it has a "the shining" vibe. Shabby and the bathroom is really worn down with leaking pipes and not cleand properly for a while.
We where supposed to stay here for four nights but we felt that we could do better after one... It freaked us out.
- Teng Hock (2/5): - The TV channels not working. Service bad as they have only a small staff working and the period I was there, they have a big tour group. No bell boy have to carry my own Luagage. It’s ok but when I went they told me Hotel.com didn’t not email my booking
- Teng Hock (8/5): Cheap but no service - The place is cheap but the breakfast was so so. There no one to help me carry my bags.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Easy and cheap hotel at the Ping River.
- fredr376 (2/5): This hotel still dumps untreated wastewater into the Ping River! - For many years this hotel has discharged nasty black wastewater into the Ping River. Worse yet, the location of the discharge pipe is in front of the restaurant just south of the hotel, near the iron bridge, leading observers to think it is from the restaurant! When present, the discharge is sometimes jet black, creating a dark plume near the river bank.
If you have an environmental conscience, DO NOT stay there!
- K6736GAdanielc (6/5): Fine - This is an old run down hotel. It smells a little funny. On the plus side, it has staff that keep their nose of of your business and good cleaners. A big pool too which no one uses. Nice river views. I'd leader a cheaper price
- Balaia315 (2/5): The worst hotel I ever booked in Thailand - Please keep away from this place, this is a hotel that had better days probably 40 years ago or more...the location is perfect the structure indicates that if renovated could become again an attractive hotel, but really if you book there you will encounter an old smelly, dirty hotel with no professional management. Normally i am a person that does´t criticized a lot but this can never be a 3 star hotel. The pictures I put here are actually the nicest I took if I were to show you the other pictures you would be shocked.
- Teck Chye (2/5): - Nobody will belief me,I booked for two rooms at this hotel for 4 days and check into the hotel at 3.30 pm on 27/3/18. and check out at 5.30 pm on the same day.The reason is that I cant imagine how filthy and dirty the toilet was(for both room). The hotel agree to change both room for me but after viewing the "new room" , it made no difference its equally dirty ( Toilet cleanliness and hygiene is the most fundamental thing that everyone need).
- AlexandreHsu (8/5): Old hotel but big room, great location and view - The big hotel is quite old, the buffet breakfast is not too good, and the staff didn't seem very enthusiastic during my stay, but the rest makes up for everything: The location is excellent (by the river and at a few minutes by foot to the big night bazaar with all the shopping/dining/drinking opportunities; the room is huge and mine had a wonderful view of the river and the pool; the breakfast place is sunny and has pool view; the pool is big. It was an enjoyable stay.
- Dan (6/5): Distraction-free business hotel - The hotel has seen better days.
It's large, but under-populated, and seems to have only a handful of shy staff, so feels extremely empty - spooky even.
Value was quite good, given the size of the room, but things like lack of mini-bar or safe, hard pillows, old fixtures, indifferent staff, and general neglect made this a dull place to spend time.
As I actually wanted a distraction-free room to work in, and privacy to come and go, this worked out OK for me in the end.
The pool is a good size, and well-maintained, though the surrounding grounds and area were unattractive.
Wi-Fi was just adequate. OK for emails, but I ended up tethered to my phone most of the time for online work.
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- Verified traveler (4/5): Very old and dirty hotel - The hotel has a great day rate, but it's very old, dirty and food it's not very tasty and delicate. Room has lot of dirt all over and bed sheets must be about 20 years old by the look of stains. Same as for the floor carpet, and in general. Pool area was full of trash at arrival. They clean that up but the pool area is bad maintained and ugly.
The area around is great by the river and close by many good restaurants and Bazaar marked.
- Magdalen (8/5): Cheap holiday - Location very good 6 mins walk to the night market 15 min from the airport and many shops for the local food. Price very good. The hotel swimming pool good and the restaurant was clean but the rooms need a total change very old and gloomy. The carpets need a change as old and worn.
- Clark (8/5): Clark - staff great helpfull
- John (4/5): Find another one - Very old run down property. Location is good but other than that not anything positive. Even breakfast was substandard
- Verified traveler (8/5): Alles in allem okay. Superlage - Hotel ist okay. Fruehstueck ist etwas fad und einfallslos
- Verified traveler (8/5): Alles in allem okay. Superlage! - Hotel ist okay. Fruehstueck etwas fad und einfallslos
- Wilson (6/5): Good location for Loy Kratong festival - This hotel has the best location during Loy Kratong festival, just next to Ping river. You can also watch the sky lantern if you have river side view room. The facility is old and some of the electric plug doesn't work in my room. You get what you pay for.
- Verified traveler (8/5): hotel is so old I think it wants to retire - The hotel is in a great location, but it is very old and in a sad condition. Broken hallway lights are not fixed, with some wirings hanging out. Walls look tired and yellowish. Everywhere you look, the hotel shows you its old age and lack of maintenance.
The lobby looks like a museum, with massive ornaments and furnitures that serve the hotel no purpose. It's like one establishment closed down and this hotel kept all their stuff in their lobby.
Staff was half-friendly and very disorganised. Whoever cleaned my room left a damp washcloth and a disgusting white sheet on the side table.
Buffet breakfast sucks. No bacon! Chicken soup tasted like fish soup (possibly because of too much chayote).
I chose this hotel for the Yee Peng Festival, and it served me right for that purpose, because I could see the lanterns right out my window. Since that's done, I am not staying in this hotel again.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bad hotel like staying in hell. - We pay the room for 5 nights but just stayed for one night only. The rooms are unacceptable, stinky with mouldy smell. Faucet is missing for hot water supply. No light on the hallway. Socket exist unsafe. Water overflow after flushing the toilet. Irons burn mark on the carpet.
They don't have our registration record until we show our document. We had booked two rooms with one single bed and one double bed but they said we booked one room only and we need we paid extra 500 baht before they can serve us. Can you arrange for the refund or what procedure we can do at this stage.
- Thomas (10/5): best deal in Chiang Mai - Great location. Rooms are old but comfortable. Nice breakfast. Lowest priced tree star in the area.
- fredr376 (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE EARTH - I spend a lot of time in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Many times while crossing the iron bridge by foot (located on the west side of the Ping River about 100-200 meters south of the Diamond Riverside Hotel, I see a significant DISGUSTING discharge of brown to jet black water that runs into the Ping River at the SW corner of the iron bridge. Upon first glance, one would think this discharge is coming from the River Market restaurant, but it is actually coming from the Diamond Riverside Hotel through a good sized underground culvert. I have no idea whether it contains raw sewage but it is very disturbing and disgusting.
This pollution of the Ping River is absolutely disgusting. Anyone with any concern for the environment should NEVER stay at the Diamond Riverside Hotel. The discharge culvert is located a good distance above the river level just south of the Iron Bridge and when in use, can be readily heard and seen by anyone nearby. I have also observed an oily sheen in this same area.
I spoke to the lady at the front desk about this problem and warned her angrily I would write to TripAdvisor about this problem, and that it is unacceptable. If this hotel was located in the US or England or Australia or SIngapore or any number of other countries, it would be forced to stop the discharge and would be fined a large amount of money.
The hotel is using the Ping river as an open sewer. Do not stay here!!
I also intend to contact the City of Chiang Mai and the Thai government about this problem. Shame on the Diamond Riverside Hotel!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): close to night market - originally the hotel was surely a great hotel, but there was probably never only 1 baht spent for keeping it up to date after it was built. thats the way it looks. so dont expect too much. but ok for the price. thai breakfast + toast, sausages and scrambled eggs.
- MED-K-Globetrotter (2/5): You must close for renovation - I booked 5 rooms for two nights but we changed our mind and stayed at this terrible hotel for one night only.everything in the hotel is outdated and below the expectations of any traveler around the world; the rooms furniture are super tired and the colors becomes dirty. The windows curtains are half closing . The water in the showers is cold and needs at least 10 minutes to get hot.the buffet breakfast is bread , butter and jam for people who does not eat Thai food in the morning. The only positive thing I can say is the friendliness of the hotel staff.
- Captain_Rob_D (6/5): Good Value For $25 - Not as bad as the reviews might suggest as yes it is old but it is still great value for money. For $25 per night for 2 people with breakfast and a river Ping view and a short walk to the Night Market we actually enjoyed it. Yes it is an old hotel but the staff were friendly and the breakfast adequate if you are a budget traveller you will not complain. The bed was firm but comfortable and the furnishings a bit run down but still we found it a good choice to stay and actually ended up adding a extra night as other hotels were 3x the cost of here and this had everything we needed including free parking lot and a swimming pool. Recommended for budget stays.
- PeterAUCNX (6/5): Good value and good position - Yes, this a older hotel, that said it was once a grand hotel. Highrise with lots of open lobby area. It is set in a large area right on the river, steps away from the Night Bazaar.
The rooms ( mine) had been painted and new carpet and the views over the river and surrounds were magical. The room furniture was a bit dated but again they were clean and serviceable.
There is onsite parking and a large outdoor pool.
Breakfast was copious but not a big variety.
This hotel is very popular with Thais and the breakfast caters to their tastes, rice and noodles.
I was very happy here and would stay again.
If you want modern, go elsewhere but this is pretty good value.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - poor breakfast, pool and terrace and restaurant doesn't worked
- billdeeley (6/5): Not as bad as some say! - I had read some reasonable reviews on Expedia and other sites, but pretty shoddy ones on Trip Advisor. This hotel is like a grand, elegant old lady who needs a new set of flash lingerie and some cool outer garments. If the owner of this establishment wants to contact me, I can give him/her/them some really good ideas for making this a great hotel again.
Yes, it can use a good coat of paint and some new wallpaper and carpets, but I found no bugs or anything really bad; the staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast this morning was very good (a small selection of western things and mostly asian) - but, guess what folks, the hotel is in northern Thailand, if you want Cumberland sausages and bacon for breakfast then go to Weston-Super-Mare or Brighton!!
All in all, a perfectly adequate budget hotel.
- MasonSojourner (8/5): Nice Hotel Along River - This was the last hotel I stayed in before returning to California. This hotel is central to the night bazaar and I love the location. There are also massage places near that aren't very expensive. I highly recommend this hotel. I miss Thailand.
- Sagrario1985 (2/5): Sleep tight don't let the bed bugs bite... Literally!!! - We were moved to this hotel after ours was overbooked. We only lasted 10 mins. The lobby looked nice and clean but once we got to the room it was a different story. The carpet was old and dirty, furniture dusty. Worst of all of this was we found multiple bed bugs on the bed. We asked for our money back immediately after that. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Gross place!
- alexmT1557YR (4/5): Stayed one night - Room was good size, had a bath and shower
Breakfast was a terrible experience, typical Asian mad rue, all elbows queue cutting, food ran out and I went out to find breakfast around streets.
Last resort type of place
- stanyau24 (4/5): unbelievable and poorly lighted for the rooms - Old hotel with no touch of class. Rooms are pretty outdated including the TV set. Need to refurbish in order to remain competitive in the market. The carpet stinks and air conditioning (being centralised) is poor. I will not recommend other than its location.
- Gassulin (6/5): Tired but affordable, close to action - My husband and I spent 4 days there at the end of Feb this year, chosen because of the room rate 17 eur with breakfast and the building position. Nice but tired building, a bit dark in the loby,an outdoor pool, hotel seen much better days, elevators work, room clean but could be much cleaner with so little effort (nothing that ajax can`t do, mostly in the bathroom), no WiFi in the room (there is a WiFi in the lobby though), TV few channels but who needs TV in Chiang Mai !?!, bed and linen average (clean but little worn out), perfect incredible panorama room view over Ping river from 11th floor, breakfast mediocre, staff attentive (asked for late check out, no problem!). Close to action- Night Bazaar,Tapae gate, restaurants and lots of bars with live music. Don`t forget the room rate which is more than acceptable, let`s be honest! Would stay there again!
- TomislavK202 (2/5): STAY AWAY - I did not want to write a review, but since cockroaches are keeping me awake, i have nothing better to do. Usually i can deal with a bad hotel, but when roaches walk over you, yeah thats right, while trying to sleep, thats where i go crazy. The breakfast i cant even describe because thia morning a found sonething slimy in my coffe. No TV, no wifi. The pool is dirtier than some of Bangkoks canalas. Stay away fron this place.
- DAVID (6/5): Old hotel but OK. Good value & Location.. - The hotel is a bit old. The room was comfortable enough, but the fridge had mould around the edge of it. Not all the lights worked and one bulb blew while I was there (I just realised I forgot to tell reception - oops). The staff were friendly though. I checked in easily enough even at 0530, and the checkout was quick. The wi-fi was so poor I could not get a connection. The best features for me were the staff, the distance from the main road and the big, secure carpark. Sorry can't comment on the food as I didn't have time to eat there during my stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): overall okay - Okay over all. Have seen much better breakfast buffets
- stevefloyd (4/5): Very very tired hotel - Start with the plaudits.. a fantastic view over the River Ping, but just about everything else about the hotel was sadly lacking, miserable reception staff, strange reception area, wifi was non existent, rooms were very tired as was all the hotel.. I wish I could write something nice but even the breakfast was absolutely terrible
- Wilmslow_People (6/5): Great situation but very 'tired' could do with some care - We stayed therefore Loy Kaithong and so it was perfect for what we wanted with the city being full and we could walk and see the parade and launch our Kaithong but - the hotel was not in a good state. It was clean but the sheets were grey and the bathroom needed a good refurbishment, also we had an invited guest a cockroach! Breakfast was ample but don't have the warm milk.
- Pongyana364 (2/5): Tragicomic, you get what you pay for. - Very cheap due to ghost rumours, although a hounting might have improved our stay.
Yes, it is cheap and yes it is very very old and have had absolutely no maintenance for the last 25 years. Hotel staff dressed in their own clothes and joggingsuits. A very green algae-filled swimmingpool. Worn and torn interior. Someone had been writing on the dusty windows of the room. 5 of 7 lamp bulbs did not work neither did the electricity to the old tv, this was fixed though.
All springs in one side of the bed was non-existent. Well, then it's more romantic to use just one side of the bed. Mostly loacal warm dished for breakfast, toast machine out of order, but there was bread and jam preventing me from starving too much. haha, I must learn one get what one pay for - I just couldn't imagine it could be this tragicomic and ready for condamnation.
- CHAN (4/5): The hotel really run down. Poor services - Request for what I booked not delivered. Breakfast very poor. Everyday the same food I ate.
Because I already paid for the room for 4 nights. If not I will change to another hotel after the first night. Shouldn't list this hotel in your reservation list. ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY
- Lee Gulf (4/5): Strong point: location, location, location - My room faced the Mae Ping River on the 5th floor, providing an excellent view. Also, it was high and far enough from the street noise, which made for a quiet room. It is a relatively short walk to the night markets, a supermarket and some good restaurants. The staff friendly and helpful. Now for the weak points: Rooms need an update, carpet faded, needed more outlets and better lighting, bath tub quite worn. The facilities had a general dingy appearance inside and outside, like a place that had its heyday in the past. Conclusion: I was generally satisfied all things considered. I would stay again but g/f didn't like it.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Pleasant hotel, close to night bazaar - The best thing about this hotel is the location, a 5 minute walk from the night bazaar. The hotel itself was OK although it did have some flaws:
1. wifi access limited to the reception area only. I spoke to one of the drivers who said this was because the hotel wanted to avoid people inviting their friends to their room and using their wifi free of charge. They should be able to screen out non -paying guests as soon as they enter the building.
2. Mosquito infection at reception. Even when you get to use the wifi access, you can't enjoy it because there are mosquitos everywhere.
3. Don't bring anything sweet ( i.e food ) to your room as it will be colonised by the ants. Luckily they provided a fridge but an ants infestation remains unpleasant to the first time traveller.
4. Breakfast - Dissapointed that this was fairly limited - toast, jam, coffee and a few egg with noodle options. However again, some of the bread had ants crawling in them which is naturally off putting to potential tourists.
It wasn't all bad, room service was very good, although they could further improve by giving a do not disturb tag on the door knob.
Other than that, it was a good hotel for the price that was paid. They should increase the price to include airport shuttle instead of making you pay again , but other than that, it was ....a fair experience.
- Sanjay (2/5): Budget hotel, poor comfort, Not good for family. - We booked two room for family of 4 looking at photos on expedia. Had terrible experience. Linen dirty. Lot of dirt on windows, tables. Carpets old, and not clean. Lizard, cockroaches and especially mosquitoes in plenty. No wifi in room despite the description on Expedia website. Poor wifi in lobby but could not sit even for 5 min due to mosquitoes. Swimming pool dStaff hardly speak or understand English. Breakfast OK for most but not good for vegetarians like irty and not well kept and basically not usable. us. Overall bad choice. could have got better hotel in less price. Paid £30 (1500baht) per night. Very poor value for money. Fooled by pictures on expedia.
- Mykaah (2/5): Horrible Experience - My expectations of a budget hotel aren't high. I've stayed in some pretty questionable accommodations in Thailand but I've never once left a bad review. You get what you pay for but I wouldn't stay at this place if it were free.
We booked four nights and paid in advance through an online travel site. The price was low but it was near the night market so although I wasn't expected The Four Seasons, I didn't expect a cesspool.
Our greeting at reception was very stoic but I can put up with unfriendly staff if the price is right. When my husband and I walked in the room we were surprised, it didn't look that bad. However, on closer inspection I began to wonder if housekeeping had done anything other than change the bed.
The first thing I noticed was that the lamp on the bedside table had been on fire sometime in the past. The inside of the shade was scorched, and the fabric was black and flaky and had been burned right through to the actual shade. The cord on a standing lamp on the other side of the room had been repaired in six different spots with electrical tape. The TV didn't work and none of the electrical outlets we tried worked either. Our room looked down onto the pool (one of the reasons we booked this hotel) but there wasn't anyone near it .. and for good reason. The water was so green with algae, you couldn't see the bottom of the pool and the surface was covered in debris. The carpet wasn't just old, it was filthy and stained and didn't look as if a vacuum had passed over it in months. We found two price tags stuck to the wall presumably stuck there by a previous guest.
It was late in the day and we were so hot and tired that even with all these negative signs, we were stil prepared to spend one night and find something else the next day. However, the fingerprints in feces (okay, it might have been chocolate or mud but feces is more likely) on the roll of toilet paper on the holder that was the final straw.
This place is a filthy and disgusting fire hazard and the only recommendation I can mack is to stay away!
