- U6633OSdavidk (8/5): Modern, clean and perfectly placed - Very comfortable and well placed hotel few minutes away from the old town. Clean rooms and spacious bathroom with all necessary amenities. The distribution of our room was not the most convenient though. For a one night stay we didn’t need the massive entrance hall with a big closet. We would have preferred more space in the bedroom area as we used the extra bed for our teenage.
- jodiec4444 (8/5): Great Location - The hotel is in a great location, a 5 minute walk down the side of the hotel to the main centre and a 10 minute walk along the road to the train station. Staff at reception were very friendly and helpful. The early check-in we had prepaid for was not available so we were refunded but we were able to store our bags for the day. We were given a Basel card for free transport and discounted museums which was handy. We booked a courtyard facing room due to previous reviews about road noise. Unfortunately our room was behind the kitchenette area so there was quite a bit of noise around 6am each morning which was disruptive to sleep. The room was spacious and clean. The shutters provided great light blocking for sleeping. The bed was comfortable but there was only 1 pillow each and a cushion. There was a coffee pod machine but staff kindly offered us a kettle and teabags as an alternative. The room could have done with a few additional mirrors as there was only one on the back of the wardrobe door and in the bathroom. The shower was probably one of the best I have had in a hotel, the waterfall shower head was amazing. We didn't have food at the hotel so cannot review. Overall, I would recommend this hotel based on location and friendliness of staff.

- MicheleB250 (10/5): Almost perfect - A very nice, pleasantly welcoming hotel. The staff spoke multiple languages and were always available when needed. The hotel is like new, and the rooms (the one around €250/night) are spacious, with an excellent bathroom with heated floors. The location is perfect for visiting the city center. The only downside: it faces a very busy road. I still give it a top rating. P.S.: Excellent breakfast.
- Princesshan_212 (6/5): Friendly staff but far too noisy for light sleepers - I can’t comment on the food or drinks as we didn’t have either during our stay, but here’s my honest review based on the room and overall experience. On first impressions, the hotel was clean and the staff were really friendly. Unfortunately, the main issue for me was the noise. If you’re a light sleeper, I honestly wouldn’t recommend this hotel. The safest option for noise is probably a top-floor, courtyard-facing room. We had booked a courtyard-facing room on the ground floor, but on our first night we were put in a second-floor room on the outside of the hotel facing the traffic. It was one of the worst nights’ sleep I’ve had — the traffic noise was constant, the bed was very firm, and the pillows didn’t feel comfortable or big enough for the width of the mattress. The next morning my partner asked if we could switch to the room we had actually booked, and to be fair, the staff moved us quickly. They said the second-floor room was an “upgrade,” but it definitely didn’t feel like one. The ground-floor courtyard room we ended up in was more spacious and much quieter. However, the outside shutter didn’t work. I mentioned it, but it never got fixed, so we were woken up early by the courtyard lighting and the natural light. One morning, a staff member was moving cages/trolleys around at 6am which woke us up — I even heard someone else complain from another room. It just seemed unnecessary at that hour. Overall, the staff are lovely and the hotel is very central (about a 10-minute walk to the train station). The rooms themselves are basic, with a slightly odd layout — the shower is in the room, hidden only by a curtain. Personally, I wouldn’t stay here again because of the noise, and I wouldn’t recommend it as a romantic hotel for couples. The rooms just don’t give off that vibe. Friendly team, great location, but the noise made the stay difficult.
- Roving22417743089 (8/5): The Passage - Good location a short walk from the Central Rail Station and from the centre of town. A quiet atmosphere with charm. Double rooms a good size with excellent bathroom. The lobby bar is on demand and the bar prices reflect local costs. The hotel prices are typical for Switzerland. All public areas and rooms were clean The gym and sauna were a pleasant bonus.

- Gilapaz11 (4/5): Check the location carefully not near anything in Basel walkable restaurants! - I was very disappointed with The Passage. It seems to be in a more residential neighborhood with no walkable restaurants, shops, mini marts etc. Thank goodness I had breakfast with the room or I would have starved. I am sure that one could probably take a tram/bus to a restaurant but I wasn’t familiar with the system. The hotel gives you a free tram/bus pass but no further information. Wish I had stayed at the Marriott which according to my fellow river boat group was right in the center of everything!

The hotel is located very near the old town where the stores and restaurants are located. The room was very spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was very large as was the shower. It had the best rainwater shower that I have ever used. The staff are extremely pleasant. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast in their lobby. Everything was very fresh. The hotel is extremely immaculate. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Basel.

Staff are fabulous - helpful in every request. Nicolas even phoned our cruise line to find out the exact docking location, which had changed since our previous notification. You will love this hotel.

Clean and a real plus was the disinfectant available. I find post Covid that this has lacked in hotel gyms. The shower pressure is amazing! The staff are friendly and so accommodating. About a 10 minute walk from the train station and steps from Old Town. Highly recommend this hotel!

Remember you must come back up! We opted out of room cleaning for our short stay and we were rewarded with refreshments. Excellent idea. Would definitely recommend.
- Kaitlyn (10/5): - We loved our stay at the Passage. It was very clean, well organized and the staff was incredibly kind and helpful. While the suite didn't have a separate room, it was nice how far away the sofa bed was from the actual bedroom and, with a sound machine, we were able to feel like we had two separate spaces. The bathrooms are very nice, but there were a couple quirky things 1. This would *not* be a suitable option for friends or multiple couples that like privacy. There is only a clear glass door for the shower room and it never fogs over so everyone who walks by has a clear view of the person bathing. 2. The toilet is in a separate room from the tub, sink and shower, so you have to go into a separate room to wash your hands Overall, though, we would return to the Passage in a heartbeat--just a few small things that might have been nice to know in advance :)

We got the suite and it was very spacious. It has a lot of storage for putting away clothes. It's very clean and the bed was comfortable. We will definitely stay at this hotel again for our next Basel visit.

Impeccably maintained facilities and soundproofed room, absolutely clean, with blackout curtains for a good night’s sleep, a super shower, nicely air conditioned (for many of us, a necessity with this intense summer heat, a nice breakfast buffet, and a hotel staff that is friendly, courteous, efficient and welcoming. I could not ask for more.

The location was close to many sights so we could walk most places! The desk staff were very kind and helpful. Natalia and Camilla were exceptional! Don’t skip their buffet breakfast - it was fantastic. There were so many options! The free Basel Card provided great discounts to many sights. Fresh lemon water and candy were in the lobby. A Biscoff cookie on the pillow. This hotel makes you feel welcomed!

- ross_electrickiwi (10/5): Very positive experience - great location and comfortable stay! - Had a really enjoyable stay here during Eurovision week in 2025. The staff were friendly both before arrival (as I had a couple of questions I needed to ask before we arrived, and their emails were warm and helpful) and while we were there. When our keycard wasn't working in the elevators, the reception staff proactively swapped them for us, and you were always greeted with a smile. We were staying in a patio room which was a really good size - nice big TV with lots of channels (very pleasantly surprised to see we could get BBC HD for example), amazing shower and very comfortable bed. Breakfast was good - a nice selection of pastries, yoghurt, fruit, scrambled egg and breads. The location was very convenient for us - if you walk round the side of the hotel and down the stairs, you're right into old Basel which is a great starting point for everything. There's a tram stop right there, so perfect to start exploring. Overall, we had a really great experience at The Passage. In fact, I'm hoping Switzerland win Eurovision again soon so we've got another reason to visit Basel and stay here again :)

- ZenDark30 (8/5): Convenient Location in Old Town - This hotel was selected as part of our bicycle tour group likely for its central location and convenience to public transit. The breakfast buffet is plentiful. The rooms are clean and adequate. The outdoor patio seating is especially nice. Staff are friendly and helpful. The one wrinkle is that I had sent an email asking about an early check in and the response was that it would cost an additional 40 CHF. However, once I arrived, the staff told me that the additional cost only applied for check in before 12pm. This was critical information and would have made a big difference in my arrival.

- Steve (10/5): - The room was very nice. The bed was extremely comfortable. We were greeted warmly and they answered all of our tourist questions. The bathroom and bedroom were spacious and quiet. It was an easy walk to lots of restaurants. I Highly recommend this hotel.
- CMW76 (10/5): Highly Recommended - Excellent hotel. Modern style, but very relaxing atmosphere. Very clean. Great location, walking distance to old town. The room was a good size, and especially the bathroom/shower. Also, the fitness room and sauna are really top notch, I felt like I walked into a high-end gym. Last but not least, the staff was very friendly and helpful, from the front desk (Natalia) to the cleaning staff. Overall, a great experience and we will highly recommended this hotel.

All pf their rooms are simply beautiful like a luxury home. I go to this place since 2 years and they never disappoint! Greatest personal btw :)

Decent buffet breakfast, although personally I would like to see the streaky bacon cooked a bit more. I have never experienced such an intense water pressure from a shower - it was awesome. Lovely toiletries in bathroom.

- Mark (10/5): - Got bus into town and short 10-15 walk to hotel (Free bus from airport if you staying in Basel) room was comfy, clean, excellent powerful hot shower. Very comfy bed, liked how curtains totally blocked out light so get a great nights sleep. Sauna in hotel was very good, needed after a long day in the cold outside. Nice little touches like tea, mulled wine and cookes in reception, again very wlecome after coming in from the cold. Location was great, short walk into town and christmas markets, or to station to get train to Luzern or Zurich or wherever, perfect location in that respect. Staff were beyond excellent, gave us so much advise and just so friendly. Didnt eat at hotel as we were out most the time and so many options around town, but it looked good. Loved our stay

- TravelerTP (10/5): Phenomenal Staff - The staff here was really outstanding. From helping us with luggage to just checking with us whenever we might be in the lobby or eating breakfast, they were so attentive. It felt like we were at a high-end hotel with the service, but this service was actually much better. The hotel was also very comfortable and clean, with a great breakfast buffet. It was nice to come in from a cold afternoon to some warm Christmas tea in the lobby awaiting us. They also gave us each a Basel Card, which gave us free access to public transit (conveniently close to the hotel) and discounts at local attractions. I would very highly recommend this hotel.
- IHeartTraveling2013 (10/5): Great Hotel - Friendly and helpful staff, very clean, great location - We stayed here for 4 nights. The location is fantastic - you are a 5 minute bus ride from the main train station (bus runs every 6 or so minutes) and steps from the old town. The staff were very friendly and helped us with any questions we had. The room was very comfortable and had great amenities with everything we needed. Also, it was super clean and had the best soaps provided. I would definitely stay here again!

- Stacy (8/5): - Good location within east walking distance to the Old Town area of Basel. Bus stop right out front of the hotel and only one stop to train station. Beds are extremely firm as are the pillows so not very comfortable. The night before our last day they posted signs that the hotel water was going to be turned off from 0800-1000. On a Monday morning. Basically forced to get up early and checkout well before we planned. Disappointed at the timing and the lack of consideration. Room rates should have been reduced for inconvenience.

- Michael (10/5): - Stayed here for a conference at the Messe. Check-in was very efficient. Jasminka was really knowledgeable and helpful throughout the stay. She explained the travel routes, trams, buses all in detail. Answered all the questions that we had. The other male receptionist was also really helpful asking about our stay. The room was clean and really quiet. Very roomy and bathroom equipped with all the essential toiletries. Hotel just 1 min from the Bus to the Basel SBB main train station. Highly suggest to have a day trip to Colmar, Lucerne, and the Outlet Mall in Germany border. Highly recommended. A short walk down the steps will be the Toy Museum and the main tram station to the city and river. 10 min walk to the old town and main shopping areas.

We did not upgrade to breakfast so cannot comment on food, but plenty of good places to eat in walking distance. Close to tram stop and Basel SBB train station (10-15 minute walk). 15 minutes to city hall/Rhine river by foot. Close to museums as well.
