Guest Reviews
- Adrian (1/5): - Nothing! I left without staying. The bathroom was disgusting and the toilet wasn't even fixed to the floor properly
- Dennis (9/5): Great, for a short stay - The breakfast was great, the beds comfortable and clean?the room was small but ok for one night. Wish there was some type of food in the evening, the local fast food shops were closed or not suitable.
- Alan (7/5): No complaints - Good food
- Laura (10/5): Great value, no compromise. Would stay again! - Friendly staff, great breakfast, well appointed room.
- Carrie-anne (8/5): -
- Kathleen (9/5): - The staff were absolutely lovely extremely friendly and very helpful.
The pub is a very old place with lots of character but was lovely all round, it is on a busy road but that was no problem
The seperate door for the rooms is open so you can come in and out as you wish. The room was great clean and comfy with everything you need.
The food was fantastic, so we really loved it.
- KARL (5/5): cheapness - room o.k, shower o.k, awful breakfast
- Robert (10/5): Lovely stay at the Bugle Inn - Lovely location - great pub with decently priced drinks and staff were really helpful. Room was clean and nicely decorated with everything we needed for our stay. Really impressed by the included breakfast which could be customised to your liking. Full English was delicious! Would definitely come back again.
- Sharron (10/5): Great value for money, with an excellent breakfast. - The breakfast was excellent.
Yes I could hear the noise from the bar, but it was good to know that the pub was busy, this did not disturb my sleep.
- Jeffrey (7/5): Great room & breakfast but to noisy from the bar below & parking issues - The room was clean ,nice decor ,coffee & tea facilities
Comfy bed. Parking insufficient & music very loud from downstairs, even at 11pm
- Mariana (7/5): -
- Jason (8/5): Value for money stay, great breakfast and nice staff - Old style location with great staff It was a bit away from everything including restaurants
- Katherine (9/5): - Excellent breakfast which lived up to previous reviews. Very friendly and helpful staff, great landlord, lovely local pub was a welcoming and comfy vibe. Very handy for Saint Austell.
- Renpal (9/5): - The room was comfortable, and our small dog was welcome. As a pub, there was music till 11.30 at night, however after that it was peaceful. Just something to be aware of.
- luke (1/5): Horrible - Intoxicated staff who showed us our room, who could barely walk in a straight line or string a sentence together. Bathroom has black mold in nearly every corner, wallpaper was pealing away from the walls, stained carpets and no mattress protectors extremely grotty and dirty would definitely not recommend
- Maureen (10/5): Lovely stay will definitely book again - Excellent room with everything needed.
Breakfast was excellent as was the evening food Female member of staff used bad language quite a lot
- Ann (8/5): EXCELLANT - Location was ok.
Room was fine. Bed was very comfy & had a good nights sleep.
Breakfasts were brilliant .
+eveni g meals were very good too We did have a problem with a blocked toilet.
Also the shower didnt have enough water pressure.
We spoke to the landlord & he was aware that sometimes as its an old property there can be problems sometimes .
He apologised.
Its didnt cause us to worry about not going there again .
- Christine (9/5): Great Value, Great Food, - Friendly welcoming pub, Staff and Locals were very friendly, evening meal was very good and the stay was great value for money. The room was clean and warm. Shame we had to miss breakfast as we needed to leave early, I am sure that would have been as nice. The Car Park is very small but not much you can do about that.

- Clarke (10/5): -
- Kloda (10/5): -
- Robert (7/5): - The manager was friendly and accommodating. He explained a problem with his central heating system and was most apologetic it was not functioning properly. The breakfast was really good. For the price, it was pretty good value.
- Martin (9/5): Excellent place the stay was enjoyable - Room was clean and tidy, we had an evening meal that was excellent recommend the ocean pie, breakfast was great and freshly cooked to order. The only downside was the parking limited but there was an event on at the time and there is plenty on on street parking

- Sallyann (8/5): Great stay...Great staff. - This is a working pub..Great staff, great, regular customers...some real characters here. Wonderful breakfast. Staff went the extra mile to make sure we were happy with our stay. Well done to Teegan, Leah & Rob. This may not be for everyone, bear in mind it is a fully working pub & there will be some noise during opening hours...but we loved it.

The food was excellent. Cooked well and presented well.
Would highly recommend.
- Mariet (8/5): Lovely helpful staff - Staff friendly and very helpful.
History of the building was interesting
Good breakfast.
- Preece (7/5): The Bugle was an adequate place for a one night stay. - The room had an ensuite bathroom and an air conditioning unit. There is not a lot of parking. We were warned that we might be trapped in the public car park if we left our car there overnight.
The room had a radiator that we could not turn off, so we had to have the window open and the air conditioning unit on, which resulted in a lot of noise from the street outside, the pub below and the air conditioning unit itself.
- Vicki (7/5): - The breakfast was nice and it was good that we had a car park. I was able to have fresh air come in the window. We weren't happy with the shower. Having had a cold one the first night.
- Stephen (4/5): - Location poor, attitude of staff.
It's a local drinking pub with rooms, no service.
- charles (6/5): -
- Stephen (6/5): -
- john (7/5): Not bad for the price - Room good and clean, breackfast excellent Bar Needs upgrading, customers young and a bit noisy, toilets very smelly in bar area.
- Jamie (6/5): -
- Juliana (8/5): -
- Vickers (8/5): Lovely place to stay, clean comfortable excellent food and some very colourful locals! - Lovely old Inn with excellent food. It is a very old property with some damp showing in the bar area. It was masked with fake chemical sprays which was very strong I would have preferred a bit of a damp smell.
- Debbie (6/5): - Good breakfast
- Heavy 33 (9/5): - Great people, exceptional breakfast and thoroughly enjoyable. Made some great friends and had a great time. Thanks, Tegan Piper Rob and the rest of the gang. The parking could sometime be challenging.

- David (8/5): - Main road traffic noise.
- Tracey (8/5): Cute old pub - Comfortable room. Helpful staff. Good location for visits to the surrounding area.
- Henny (7/5): - Good small room with value of money.
- FF1970 (9/5): - Accueil sympa (environnement direct moyen), resto fermé ce soir mais nous avons pu apporter notre fish & ships dans le pub et s'y installer avec une biere ! Chambres bien tenues et lits confortables. Bon petit dej ! Bonne etape avant de visiter Lanhydrock !
- Lloyd (1/5): Avoid at all costs - We stay away 3 to 4 times a week and this was the worse experience weve had.
I wish id read the reviews before i booked as the bad reviews were spot on.
Im not actually sure why they are running a B and B as the staff don't want you there and the locals definitely don't want you there.
- Mercier (9/5): Un établissement où l'on se sentait bien. - Repas et petit-déjeuner de qualité et copieux. Grande disponibilité de l'hôtelier, très convivial et très serviable.
- Karen (8/5): - Friendly staff. Lovely breakfast.
- Brooks (9/5): -
- Daniela (9/5): -
- Sally (7/5): Great place and value for money. I would return but not with a vehicle. - Great shower. Comfortable bed. Fantastic breakfast. Good choice of drinks and biscuits in the room. Friendly staff. Good size room. Car parking was difficult as the area was very busy. Traffic noise was loud. Dust and dirt on and behind bedside tables. People smoking right outside the doors that led up to the rooms.
- Ogston (10/5): - Everything was good
- Janine (6/5): - The breakfast was very lovely.
Not the cleanest place I've stayed at.
The waitress was quiet and looked very unhappy.
- Blunt (9/5): Great village pub, nice rooms, lovely food - The food choice and standard was really very good. Breakfast exceptional in variety, quality and quantity. Our favourite evening meals were the Cumberland pie, the Ocean pie, Chilli con carne, the curry. Very dog friendly place with friendly staff. The locals (and it is the village pub) are very welcoming and friendly. They're genuinely interested in meeting guests without being intrusive. I also really liked the loyalty they show to the pub. Nobody has a bad word to say, and they all muck in. There's pool, darts, and other things to do. I'd seen some complaints about noise for guests staying upstairs but I had no problems. There's a CoOp and Spar within easy walking distance as well as a good Fish and Chips shop and a Chinese takeaway. The location is next to a busy road but secondary glazing keeps noise out.
It's not "The Ritz" or "Savoy" it's an honest pub where guests are welcomed, not shunned by the regulars. I'd seen on previous reviews that there'd been mentions about the cleanliness. The room, which was a good size, was an acceptable standard, although I did see patches of mould around the public bar windows area. This had been mentioned by other reviewers in the past and would be an easy fix.
Alcohol drinks-wise, there was a good choice of beers and spirits. Wine was OK, and the beautiful Rattler cider is a favourite with most visitors. I personally don't like St Austell brewery beers at all. Had there been a few alternatives, guest beers, or even bottled beer from other breweries, that'd have been better, in my opinion. I guess when it's just locals in the pub (winter months), they'll want the usual beers.
- STEPHANIE (8/5): -
- Helen (10/5): - Everything you want from a local pub The staff and pub users always friendly
- Philip (8/5): Definitely would stay again. - Nice pub with lots of character giving the age of the property 1800’s building, fortunately not haunted. Comfortable, great food and really nice / friendly staff and locals who really made us welcome.
- SteMariani1994 (8/5): -
- Elzbieta (10/5): - Pyszne śniadanie.
- Daniel (7/5): -
- Heather (10/5): Lovely stay, would return - Comfortable beds
Clean
Helpful friendly staff who go above and beyond
Nice food
Good location Did pay £50 extra for a different room as advertised on booking.com (twin room with a bath and large bathroom) however we did not get this room. I believe this is a mistake on the website as this room is no longer a twin room. But the room suited our needs fine.
- Paul (9/5): A great, simple stay with good food and friendly service! - The Bugle Inn was a great, simple stay - perfectly situated close to our GB Divide cycling route. The evening bar food was great and the service friendly. The next morning, the landlord very kindly packed us off with an bacon roll for our long day in the saddle.
- Jo (7/5): -
- Shella (4/5): - The two members of staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful and breakfast was ok. The room wasn't clean, there was mould in the bathroom, wallpaper peeling off the wall, beds not comfortable, the TV had Netflix option but wasn't connected to the Internet, the dining area was by the main bar and didn't smell good at all and last but not least there was mould on the walls there as well.
- Ulrike (9/5): Leckeres Pub, moderne Zimmer - Sehr nettes Personal, leckeres Essen, schöne, große Zimmer. Lage direkt an der Straße, daher etwas laut.
- Kevin (5/5): Disappointing - Not a lot Property run down not very clean behind the bed looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned for ages not very inviting Staff at breakfast could have been more welcoming when we came in she was sat on the table in the entrance on her phone no acknowledgment didn’t engage well even when taking our order
- Craig (10/5): - Very friendly staff. Craig and John really looked after us.
- Julia (8/5): - It was great place for us to.meet up with our friend who lived close by It was exceptionally hot in Cornwall when we stayed, which was lovely but as the hotel is old the room was very hot, no fault of the hotel and they did supply an ac unit, but still hard to sleep
- David (9/5): -
- Thomas (7/5): -
- Mihai (7/5): - Close to Eden Project.
- Sara (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay—it was comfortable, relaxing, and we’d happily come back again - The Bugle Inn is warm, welcoming, with great food and friendly service—a perfect spot for relaxing and enjoying time. The smoking area is a pleasant spot to relax, but it really needs cleaning up—especially all the cigarette butts scattered around, which spoilt it.
- Carine (8/5): - The staff were very friendly, and the breakfast, which was included was excellent The floor sloped in our room. The parking was a challenge
- Andrea (8/5): A comfortable, budget friendly hotel, great for visitors to Eden project! - Great location for our trip to Eden project. Room was clean and comfortable.Delicious breakfast! We stayed during a heatwave a fan for the room would have been useful. Carpark was full when we returned from an evening out but thankfully we were able to park on the road close by.
- Kathryn (9/5): - Rooms were light and airy with good facilities including an air conditioning unit which was very welcomed due to the heat. We loved the artwork in our room.
Staff were welcoming and helpful. The car park was small but we did get a space.
- Sarah (10/5): Excellent value and close for visiting the Eden Project - Location was fabulous for the Eden Project - quiet enough area with parking. Breakfast was lovely.
- Tetiana (3/5): - Breakfast was alright Very noisy place, an alarm rang in the middle of the night, could hear all the traffic and see the headlights in the room, the lock on the door didn’t work, unfriendly waiter in the morning serving breakfast, almost sleeping on the job
- Tamsin (9/5): -
- Peter (7/5): Pretty good - Friendly staff and perfectly adequate room with decent shower. Location not great and a 10 min taxi to St Austell. Fine for Eden.
- Peter (8/5): -
- Darren (6/5): -
- Elaine (7/5): Enjoyable - Breakfast ,Room ,Staff All good thank you
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The guy who was behind the bar was fine but the land lady oh dear well what can I say drunk rude and totally inappropriate in her comments I was made to feel very uneasy
I advised I would be down for breakfast at 7 and told it was to early and then the room was not the cleanest
- Joanne (6/5): Nice friendly people just needs more time spent on cleaning room 1 - Pub was nice amd friendly room was bright and airey Food was good though Thickndust in bathroom under the units and skirting boards and windows needs a good clean
