Guest Reviews
- Geraldine (10/5): Lovely experience; great place to have as a base for our pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady - Breakfast was great; fresh and delicious; set us up for the morning. Eclectic decor style was exactly to our taste, super-friendly and helpful host family, made to feel very welcome. Bright and comfortable room with facilities. Will definitely visit again!
- Philip (10/5): Delightful stay, wonderful room and facilities. Justin & Charlotte are fantastic hosts - Quaint, traditional, charming

- Kayte (8/5): Quirky charm, cosy rooms, kind hosts and a perfect location made our stay memorable. - We really enjoyed our stay at Walsingham Bakehouse — it has quirky historic character and cosy, art filled rooms which made it very memorable place to stay. We loved how full of charm and personality the house was. The hosts were really welcoming and took time to give advice on local history and places of interest nearby. We opted for the cooked breakfast at the nearby Black Lion for the 1st morning and the continental at the bakehouse for the 2nd morning, can recommend both.
- Jonathan (9/5): Amazing - Very cosy. And Justin the host is nice. We like the paintngs as well. None
- O'Beirne (9/5): - Lovely warm almond croissant
The piano - it was lovely hearing that. With decor to match, it took me back a couple of hundred years. Excellent! Nothing
- Joy (9/5): - We had a truly beautiful and memorable stay at the The Old Bakehouse while travelling with our family to visit the Walsingham Shrine. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt peaceful and special.
Our room was filled with spiritual statues and meaningful pictures, which made our pilgrimage to Mother Mary’s shrine feel even more personal and touching. It created such a calm and reflective environment — exactly what we hoped for during this journey.
The house itself is full of beautiful antique pieces, each with its own character and charm. We absolutely loved the historic feel of the property. My husband and child were especially delighted with the Victorian-style room setup — it truly felt like stepping back in time while still being warm and comfortable.
Breakfast was thoughtfully arranged and thoroughly enjoyable, with a lovely, welcoming setup that made us feel at home.
A special thank you to Justin, our host, who was incredibly kind and welcoming. We had such a pleasant chat with him during our stay. As we were not travelling by car, his thoughtful offer to give us a lift to Fakenham was deeply appreciated and went above and beyond our expectations.
Overall, it was a peaceful, heartwarming experience for our whole family. We would highly recommend staying here, especially if visiting the shrine — it made our spiritual trip even more meaningful. While we truly appreciated the character and atmosphere of the room, we did feel that the housekeeping could have been a little more thorough. There was some noticeable dust in certain areas, and we unfortunately came across a pair of used socks that appeared to have been left behind.
We completely understand that occasional oversights can happen, but a little more attention to detail in cleaning would make the experience even more comfortable for future guests.
- Sue (6/5): Quirky - Very comfortable bed. Fire lit in our room on return from an evening out Too many religious artifacts for our taste
- Parveen (9/5): Comfortable stay in a beautiful quaint village of Walsingham - Beautiful property of period charm. It is close to the Anglican shrine and about a mile from the Catholic shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.
The room was comfortable. Justin is a kind host. He even dropped us at the Fakenham bus terminus on the morning of our departure. The breakfast was beautifully presented. It felt like home serving yourself at breakfast. Warm comfortable feeling. Thank you. We were in Walsingham to visit the two shrines. This property served the purpose. The price we payed through booking.com was a bit steep. Would be more economical to book directly with the property although not sure if they accept credit card payment. Check with the property.
- Ludovica (7/5): Lovely family-owned B&B - Friendly and welcoming hosts, lovely warm croissants at breakfast, central location. Due to the age of the building, lots of noise in the bedroom, you can hear people flushing their toilets, walking, talking in the other rooms. Shower is dated and the plastic curtain keeps sticking to skin and makes it difficult to shower. A splinter from the old wooden floor tore through my sock.
- Pamela (8/5): Great value - What was advertised was what you got . Good value for money ! Very friendly and helpful staff . The little kitchen that guests could use could do with updating and a deep clean !
It was useful though .
- Paul (1/5): Walked out after a full inspection - Hardly anything Way overpriced, religious, no TV, limited breakfast (when they advertised ‘breakfast included) they offer a choice of 3 croissants, o parking issues, squeezed headboard, trip hazards and poor lighting.
- keith (5/5): Host was excellent but parking on narrow road was difficult - Adequate and quality was good I expected an English breakfast
- Leonie (7/5): - Location was spot on for the thursford Christmas spectacular!! I did feel like I was imposing on their family home
- Teresa (8/5): - The host was lovely, we came back to the bedroom and had a beautiful coal fire waiting for us, the property was a great old house very comfortable, breakfast was fresh warm croissants, joice of cereal and beverages all on comfy couches in front of roaring fire, perfect start to day.
- Mark (10/5): We were very pleased with our choice of accommodation. - The whole character of the property was typical of the area. A historic building with a rustic feel but very comfortable and welcoming. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make you feel at home.
- Mary Hinge (10/5): Wonderful stay - Beautiful property, cosy and friendly, right in the heart of the village. Most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Nothing
- Andrew (8/5): We found it to be a great place to stay within a short drive of Wells. - Unique property in great location with friendly hosts.
- Debbie (10/5): The Bakehouse - Great historical property - Loved the historic village. The Bakehouse is great, the bedroom we stayed in was from 1527!
Justin our host, was so helpful taking and picking us up from the Thursford spectacular He also booked us breakfast at the local pub. Parking was easy, directly opposite the Bakehouse.
Beds were comfy too. I understand its a listed building and it's probably challenging to change some parts, but having a shower instead of a bath would be my preference.
- Barnes (10/5): Great Place to stay ,wonderful host - We felt so privileged to stay at The Bakehouse! We’re a family of four visiting Walsingham for the first time on pilgrimage, and from start to finish, Charlotte and Justin communicated so well and made everything easy. Charlotte welcomed us with a warm smile, and Justin was always around, happy to help with anything we needed — truly wonderful hosts!
The location couldn’t be better — just a few steps from the Holy House and the Anglican Shrine. There’s also a great local pub nearby, The Black Lion, and free parking right across the road, which was super convenient.
If you love places with history and charm, you’ll adore the rooms here. They make you feel like you’ve stepped back into the Georgian era — a really special and unique experience.
We absolutely loved our stay and would happily return again!
- Wendy (8/5): Such lovely people, felt like home
. - It was very relaxed, no set time for breakfast, lovely hosts made me very welcome, bed was incredibly comfortable. I have to say it felt like a b&b in progress, my room had little space to put my things away wardrobe had building materials in it !!! shower was incredibly small, and unfinished.
- Jamie (9/5): -
- NAIR (10/5): It was a very lovely stay , Justin, charlotte and isador are very kind and helpful , - Location , accessibility, value for money, the host was very informative and helpful
- Alexandra (9/5): Cosy stay and brilliant base for exploring North Norfolk - Brilliant location to get to many places and sights in North Norfolk. Beautiful room, ever so cosy and loved all the artwork and decor. Warm and welcoming, brilliant service and care. Really lovely to have the fire on for breakfast and plenty of options to set us up for the day. Family and dog friendly too. Would definitely stay again and will be recommending to everyone! Shower area a little bit prone to flooding.
- Baby (9/5): -
- Fiona (10/5): Lovely cosy B&B - Everything was excellent from.the communication to the welcome when we arrived. The room was so cozy and beautiful.
Lovely real fire on in the morning at breakfast.
Not a cooked breakfast , but lots of choices and plentiful. Nothing
- Peter (7/5): Comfortable relaxing stay - Good location traditional band b with charm. Good bed. Nice log burner which was welcome. Confusing information instructions. Cups and cutlery were not the cleanest and were not replaced during my stay. No washing up liquid or tea towel. No way of specifying breakfast day day. The shower did not work correctly despite a fix. Could have been cleaner.
- Andrew (9/5): the bakehouse was very interesting with lo - The breakfast was lovely and a good selection of preserves x The shower was a little cold despite running it for a while .
- Susan (10/5): An absolute gem. - Our host, Justin & Charlotte, surpassed all our expectations. Us 4 cyclists, were welcomed with tea, fruitcake and a lovely fire in a characterful, historic building. Our beds were super comfy cosy. The shower lovely and hot. Our host kindly did our washing and securely stored our bikes. The fresh warm almond croissants at breakfast were out of this world. We can recommend Walsingham Bakehouse, especially to those cycling The Rebellion Way. There is nothing we didn't like. This is a 15th century building which we found absolutely charming. One should not expect modern amenities.
- Marcin (10/5): -
- matthews (9/5): -
- Rebecca (7/5): Comfortable with disappointing breakfast. - Nice period style decor and quirky.
Very comfortable beds.
Alcoholic beverages on offer for a small fee. Breakfast items were not replenished such as juice and bread.
Had to have the last bit of juice and it wasn't enough for the party of guests with me and there was only bread out from the day before which another party of guests ate.
The owner was supposed to get more but didn't.
No highchiar.
- rogers (8/5): Perfect stay - We had a wonderful stay at The Bakehouse in Little Walsingham. Our room was very comfortable, and the beds were excellent – we slept really well. The family who run it were warm, friendly, and extremely helpful, even allowing us to check in a little earlier which made things much easier.
The decor has a charming and homely with a vintage feel that gives the place real character. Everything was clean and thoughtfully presented, with fresh towels laid out on the beds.
We were visiting the area with our basset hound for the annual Basset Hound Beach Invasion, and the Bakehouse proved to be the perfect base. The hosts also gave us a great recommendation for a local pub, The Black Lion, which turned out to be an excellent choice for dinner.
Overall, The Bakehouse is a lovely, welcoming place to stay in a beautiful village – highly recommended!
- Lenka Adamcova (7/5): - Very friendly and extremely accommodating staff. Great location. Breakfast was continental, great quality, fresh pastry, coffee, toast, butter jam. Family-like feel. No savoury options. You have to make your own drinks and breakfast.
- Saunders (10/5): -
- Roma (7/5): -
- Lousich (9/5): We were spending just a short amount of time in Walsingham, we were out all day and leaving early the next day, so we ju - Lovely comfy beds, very homely.

- Katie (10/5): Perfect dog friendly stay - Great host and great family feel. Very welcoming. Justin was great host
- Snigdha (9/5): - Very welcoming, friendly, accommodating and very helpful.
Very nice bedding, kitchen facility available also. Nothing
- debra (7/5): We had a lovely break that was good value - Hosts were friendly and hospitable, they were very welcoming. I loved the location and history of the building and area. Although close to beaches and nearby Wells next Sea , it was very pleasant to be out of the crowds . Host booked a local pub / restaurant for us, which was very pleasant and friendly .
My granddaughter aged 7 … advised that it was best breakfast she had ever had .. ( chocolate croissant and hot chocolate and fresh fruit for breakfast !! ) what more can a 7 year old ask?
The property is a traditional old style bed and breakfast … where focus is on family run hospitality. I felt that beds and bathrooms were clean but the overall decor was somewhat tired … and perhaps could do with refresh .
- Massimo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fiona (9/5): A very pleasant stay in an historic location - A welcoming, friendly laid back vibe. Bed was super comfy. A great spot from which to explore North Norfolk.
- Parmenter (8/5): Very good - Good relaxed feel to our stay. Good location. Enjoyed the breakfast.

- Ian (9/5): We enjoyed our stay and would recommend. A refreshing change from the sanitised hotel rooms. - A very interesting house with a curious history. Very comfortable bedroom.
- Jennifer (8/5): Good place to stay. - It was an old bakehouse! Sitting at same table as everyone else at breakfast as not very wide awake first thing!

- Colin (7/5): Rebellion way Adventure - On route as we were cycling the Rebellion way.Host very helpful in getting bikes into property also would have been able to charge them if needed Shower could have been better but this is an old property so it was the best it could be.
- Cybel (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (2/5): Location is very worth a visit. But the property is likely to disappoint. - The location in the centre of the very quaint and interesting village was fantastic. Text messages exchanged beforehand were very friendly indeed. Including booking an evening meal for us. The home was full of character, but see below. We met the lodger. She was lovely. I believe Booking.com just said “breakfast included”. So, I assumed cooked. So, was surprised to get a message to choose my croissants. Mainly the home was very tired. Old was nice. But it felt unloved and cluttered and dirty. And the hosts weren’t there.
- Elizabeth (9/5): A perfect place for interesting people to stay. - A characterful family home, full of beautiful art and conversation and very much at the heart of Walsingham.
- Patricia (9/5): Magical. - Great breakfasts. Self service was fun. Anytime breakfast. Lots of fruit.
Lovely setting. Nothing to dislike if querky is your thing.
- Daniel (7/5): Good -
- Jill (7/5): Friendly and helpful owner. - Owner very friendly and helpful. He recommended a great pub for a meal in the evening. He very kindly washed our cycling gear. Shower was rather feeble. The mattress was saggy in the middle and not as comfy as we hoped it would be.
- Matthew (7/5): Good -
- Tom (10/5): Exceptional - Very English, great breakfast, lovely hosts! N
- Natalie (10/5): We loved our stay at the Walsingham Bakehouse! Perfectly located on the main street of the village of Walsingham, easily accessible to shops, pubs and religious sites.
- Susan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mcgonnell (10/5): Weekend away - The whole place was charming very cosy Nothing
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Claire (8/5): Very good -
- Pete (9/5): Quirky in a good way - There was a self catering feel to the breakfast. If you wanted cooked then you could always go round the corner to the pub. Croissants were fresh every morning.
- Elaine (9/5): The hosts were very welcoming and accommodating. - Convenient location in a lovely, peaceful village Nothing
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional -

- Melanie (4/5): Interesting accommodation with quirky decor - The property had quirky decor and was a very good base to explore north Norfolk. Walsingham Village was charming.
The complementary almond croissant for breakfast were delicious Everything was just a little bit tired and dirty
The breakfast layout was dirty, any mug or glass that you used was dirty
The bedding had a ripping it and the rugs were grubby
- Peter (9/5): Would recommend to anyone wanting an escape from modern life - A lovely, relaxed and magical house. Steeped in history. Well looked after and owner went out of his way to post a charger I'd left in the room.
- Sarah (7/5): Good -
- Iain (8/5): A rich and warm experience - Excellent hosts. Very welcoming and accommodating. Good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Good shower! Very quirky in a VERY nice way Nothing
- Biju (4/5): Disappointing - Host zn family where friendly., they offered breakfast which was good. Offered one double bed and 2 single beds in a very congested room. Single beds were very poor folding beds. My 17 year son couldn't sleep at all. There is nothing to feel freshness or relaxing. Definitely will feel disappointed. We didn't want to stay in the room . You don't get any value for what you paying for.
- Joe (10/5): We were delighted with our accommodation in the Old Bakehouse and look forward to staying there agai - The warm welcome from Charlotte and Justin, the lovely comfortable room and breakfast the next morning. More time to be able to stay in Walsingham

Very old fashioned property great location Al thou it was a very old setting bring you back in time in this beautiful old house I found it hard to relax as too much furniture & photos in room and very old musty smell on everything
Would benefit from a good fresh spring clean and a declutter to enjoy the beautiful old house
- Silvia (8/5): Pilgrims Relax Stay - Very nice place to stay, if you like historical property. The house is right in the centre of the town close to walk everywhere including R.C. shrine via pilgrims walk. Very welcoming and helpful owners, easy communication, happy to help with everything. Posh breakfast waiting in the morning to get you ready for the day and generally relaxing stay.Thank you.

Made to feel very welcome - The property was well looked after. We loved the decor and the bedroom was comfortable with an open fire.place.We stayed in the Nelson Suite.Bathroom was across from the bedroom.Lovely and clean. We will be going back. Bed was ssssooo comfortable.,didn’t want to get up.x This is a grade 2 listed building .so you have to be aware, of its historic history. So you have to expect old beautiful fire places, creaky floorboards. We didn’t mind that at all x
- Anju (9/5): Superb -
- Emma (10/5): One of my favourite places to stay! - My friend and I loved it here so much we have booked to come back in June. The property has great character and is very charming and cosy. The hosts have thought of everything and are extremely accommodating. We had a fire in our room and Justin very kindly laid out the fire so we could put it on when we got back in the evening which was a lovely touch. He also took note that we had mentioned we'd like to have a glass of wine by the fire before bed and had some wine glasses and a cork screw on the table in front of the fire ready for us which was so thoughtful! The village is beautiful and has a very interesting history, there is a local pub round the corner which serve delicious food and Well-next-the-Sea is only a 10 minute drive away which was perfect for us. I would highly recommend staying here. N/A
- Lynn (8/5): Very good - Welcome from family and others visiting/staying. Interesting building, village and location.
Relaxed self-service breakfast - with choice of croissants.
Comfy bed and quiet from early evening til morning. Old building - so obviously fixtures/fittings a bit aged, draughty and cold. Gives character, but some aspects in need of updating to feel cleaner
e.g. shower/kitchenette
- Ciara (8/5): Pleasant experience - The lovely big bed and and pillows ! There wasn’t much option with breakfast. Maybe some juice would of been nice with the food.
- Naomi (10/5): The most warm and welcoming stay. We felt very at ease and relaxed, in the most perfect location too. - We all loved this beautiful, historic and quirky house. A real step back in time. Nothing, it was exactly what we hoped for.
- Guy (1/5): Do not stay here - Location Everything
- Billie (8/5): If you are visiting the abbey and religious shrines this is the place for you to stay. - The room was comfortable with a large bed and a sitting area with a coal fire which the owners would offer to light each night .
Very tasteful decorated.
Friendly family house.
Light Breakfast included
- Parrish (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (10/5): Warm festive stay - Very cosy festive stay, it's a shame we only had 1 night as we could easily have stayed longer, lovely location in the heart of the village near a very welcoming pub. Ideal stay when visiting the Thursford Christmas Spectacular.
- Judith (8/5): Very good -
