Guest Reviews
- john (10/5): Peaceful in paradise - Beautiful location, great people, excellent chef at the restaurant. Very quiet and romantic.
- Magnus (10/5): Exceptional - Super friendly and supportive staff. Facilities are very clean, good food at the restaurant. Close to the ferry terminal and airport. A good place to relax.
- Hilda (10/5): - Wonderful place to use a base for diving one of the best dive sites in the world - Mary’s Place!
- eunice (10/5): - Great staff! Loved my cabin! Enjoyed this place and would definitely return!
- LUIS (10/5): - Love. Peaceful quiet. Will be back.
- george (10/5): - this property cant be rated correctly by just checking a box because of all the varriables. the resort property itself and the houses are imaculate and well kept , the best i have ever stayed at the resturaunt and food is second to none the diving and the reefs and the water is the best i have experienced but its a third world country so this resort shore line is littered in piles of plasic waste and is surrounded by industrial ship yards so the whole thing needs to be digested properly. once at the resort you are there and thats it .you have a resturaunt a pool and diving facilities all of them top notch, anything else you will need a cab ride to get to there is nothing you can walk to . i will stay here again now that i know how to ride this horse. we went to the market stocked our fridge with food wine and beer and snacks as eating at a restuaunt every meal is not for me.
and then. other than diving which is on site and top notch we relaxed
ate drank enjoyed each others company and ignored the world if you need a lot of external stimulation or interaction with a lot of people this is not for you . if you want to be to yourselvs and have peace and also feel safe and secure this is it
- David (10/5): Paradise! - Amazing location and friendly staff. Can't wait to return.
- javier a (10/5): - Hygiene is top notch, maintenance is a 10 bathrooms are modern, clean big enough
Food is fantastic whole staff is presentable , professionals and super nice people, beach within walking distance also safe place
- Crone (9/5): The break our family needed - The property is divided into two portions with the office, dive center, docks and rooms on one side of the water and the restaurants, villas, and additional docks on the other side, which also has lounging areas and lots of greenery, well tended grounds. The two bedroom villa was nice in size with large bedrooms and a common space in between that was a bit smaller but comfortable. Cooked dinner a couple days and the kitchen was well outfitted for this. The restaurant is very good, but the menu is small and this can wear after several days. They did an excellent Xmas dinner though. The main reason we came here was to dive and the dive center is well run. The dive staff take care of tanks, BCDs, regs, fins, setting up gear before the boat leaves the dock, so all you do is come aboard with your wetsuit, booties, and head off to dive, and they unload for you after, all of which is a luxury. The diving was great and this would definitely bring us back While the majority of the staff were very nice, personable, and helpful, one or two who were not so much and this is more noticeable given it is a small, intimate property. While the villas are very nice, there is wear and tear to furniture and furnishings that detract, the cracked glass door to the patio did as well. The location of the resort makes one quite removed, which is nice and peaceful on one hand but not when you want to get some variety of restaurants or would like to shop or sightsee. I would rent a car next time
- Luke (10/5): - If peace and serenity are what you are looking for, Barefoot Cay Resort is ideal. As a boutique resort with a limited number of accommodations you can easily avoid the crowds. Although there were a few other guests, my wife and I felt like we had the place to ourselves. We enjoyed sitting on the beach and snorkeling off the pavilion with no distractions. Relaxing on the pavilion, feeling the breeze and listening to the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks after snorkeling was so relaxing. All of the staff were friendly and accommodating.
- Douglas (10/5): - A unique private property. Beautifully updated. The staff are professional and kind people. You wont regret a stay at this beautiful gem.
- Justin (10/5): - It was great
- Michelle (8/5): A perfect place to relax and reconnect. - So beautiful and peaceful . Very well equipped kitchen. The food was average.
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charlotte (10/5): I stayed just one night as I had a couple meetings in Roatan. Looking forward to going back to Barefoot Cay again with m - What I loved; The quiet and seclusion, really good restaurant, very attentive staff, pretty pool, beautiful view, plenty of space, comfy bed, nice equipped kitchen, cool open air shower, very clean, blackout shades, tv with American channels, near the airport and Mall, it was absolutely great. I have zero complaints
- Nicole (10/5): - Absolutely gorgeous
- Onnaedo (10/5): - The property was very clean and spacious. The staff was extremely helpful and inviting. The only qualm I might say is the food was not that great, and given the fact that there were limited options around the area, I expected better. There is no shortage of mosquitos, but the hotel kindly provided natural repellant spray. Overall, the property was lovely and a great introduction to Roatán.
- Efren (10/5): - It feels very exclusive and very quiet
- Amy (10/5): Exceptional -
- fatema (10/5): - We loved our stay at this resort. The vibe, the food, the layout - everything was great.
- Ingrid (8/5): - Beautiful secluded property. Perfect for folks really interested in diving. Less so if looking for a vacation oasis. No beach or spa. Mainly pool or palapa for relaxing. That said, restaurant was delicious and we booked an array of offsite activities that were fun.
- Marwan (8/5): For price should be all inclusive! Beautiful decor - This place is a little bit secluded but it's own oasis. They only have 1 restaurant so if you want something other than that you will have to catch a cab. They had a shuttle and it cost more than a cab but it's a modern, clean, new van and you're not sharing it.
I agree with most of the comments. It's a beautiful resort. Our room was a studio with modern furniture, clean and a beautiful layout. Large private porch that over looked the lagoon. A full size kitchen with modern appliances.
They only have a very small beach area that was secluded but it felt 'weird', if something happened in the water absolutely no one was around. We sat out for a bit but didn't go in. It's a long walk to get to it.
My only complaint - more observation - is the restaurant and servers are VERY slow. We ate there 3 times on our overnight stay:
Late lunch, drinks, dessert and breakfast.
ALL the staff is amazing!
But I couldn't figure out what was going on with the service. I don't know if they wanted you to wave or call out to the servers when you needed something or what.
You were greeted with amazing friendliness, kindness and attention. The next thing we know: our water wasn't refilled, I wasn't asked if I wanted another drink until I not only drank mine but half of my wives. They had a few folks so we figured that was the reason. But we returned to sit by the pool for drinks. We were there for 10 minutes - the only folks there. My wife had to go up and ask if we can order a drink and again.
- Peggy (10/5): - My husband and Ihad a lovely time at Barefoot Cay. The restaurant was fabulous, the staff was friendly and welcoming. We also loved our little private beach area. We will definitely return this year.
- Marko (10/5): - Amaizing dive shop and staff.. Silversides restaurant on property is one of the best on the island.. highly recommended 👌
- Betsy (10/5): Outstanding Stay - There were 8 of us there for my friend's 50th birthday. It could not have been more perfect. The Silversides Restaurant prepared the most amazing meal! The staff was so friendly and helpful and our accommodations were spacious, immaculate, very comfortable and had great views!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff. Beautiful place. Great and affordable food.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Had a great weekend getaway - great spot, friendly staff, great for couples
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great place for divers, and the dive company with valet service is great, but snorkelers beware, there is NO house reef and no swimming from your beautiful villas. The ocean is less than 2 ft deep for forever, filled with grass, bits of fire coral and the occasional scorpionfish (reef shoes people!!). You can swim off of the palapa, but there is nothing really to "see". you have to get off the resort to get any reef. The week we were there, there was a new kitchen company. The existing staff was great trying to feed people, but for the first half of the stay, there was no alcohol. I mean, not even rum. And you would have to go down at least two menu choices before they would have something they could cook. Communication between the new company and the existing general management was pitiful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The man at the front desk was so welcoming and flexible with our checkout time. They made us a welcome drink and had a bottle of champagne waiting for us in our room!
10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone looking for an awesome place to stay and take in the beauty of Roatan.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The private beach is beautiful, all you need is located at the hotel. If you want to go snorkeling as a beginner the property has its own area with a sunken Volkswagen. If you are an expert, they have diving tours and equipment, no need to go anywhere else. The staff is amazing also.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Liked that it was nice and quiet. Didn’t like that it didn’t have its own little beach. But overall a nice place to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a peaceful, tranquil, out of the way hotel. This was our first time on the island (hopefully not the last) so we didn’t know how everything was situated. We booked the hotel based on the pictures and it being basically on the water.
This hotel is mainly for hard core divers, which we were not. They offer full service diving, they even wash your wet suit!
Fir that reason, the divers take off in the morning and the hotel is quiet during the day. This was perfect for us as we were happy to frolic freely around the property and take pictures or lay around the pool. Because there’s so few people during the day, the staff get to know you and take good care of you. We left a couple of things on the property and their staff turned them in to the office to return them to us. We felt safe and well cared for. Their restaurant food is very tasty. We took a cab to do some activities around the island and then went back to our tranquil little spot to relax.
Their driver, Ken, is very knowledgeable about the island and was more than a cab driver, he was also an excellent guide. We definitely recommend Barefoot Cay!
- Stacy (4/5): Lack of air conditioning is a deal breaker - I was concerned that our cottage did not have air-conditioning when I booked the Grand Villa. I was assured that the air conditioning was sufficient and that the upstairs bedroom would be comfortable at night because of the cool breeze. Nothing could be further from the truth. The whole house (which was laid out beautifully) stayed hot and humid all day and all night. The master bedroom had a wall unit but it didn’t decrease the temperature or humidity. Our bedding and especially the pillows smelled like mildew and the beddding was always damp when it was time for bed. The upstairs bedroom was stifling hot and our kids ended up staying with friends at another resort because they weren’t able to sleep in the sweltering heat. We couldn’t really use the house like we planned because it was so hot and humid all the time. All our food would get soggy unless we kept it in the refrigerator. The television would not keep a signal and the power and WiFi kept going out. We couldn’t use our beach because the sand fleas were so bad and we even avoided sitting outside at the pool because of the “no-see-ums” ate us up. Given the chance, I would stay in West Bay at the more populated resorts. Most of the sights and restaurants are on that side of the island and we wouldn’t have to pay $50 in cab fare for the round trip from Barefoot to West Bay/West End. All in all, I thought the service was top notch but the accommodations came up short.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a complete oasis for our family. It is a beautiful resort and the service was great!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Average place, not for families, photos misleading - This is an ok 3 star resort if you are there to the onsite diving. It’s not a 4 star luxury resort as advertised though and the photos are very misleading. The place as a whole needs some TLC, the beach is non-existant (although the ocean view is good), it is secluded and the onsite restaurant is below average and overpriced by around 60% (eg a single burger on stale bun, no sides $18. Steak $40, etc). There are far better options around. Grand Caribbean Resort is one. I would also note as an observation that the reviews tend to be a 10 for on-island local reviews and a 5-6 for those guests who are not from the island. Something can’t be right there.
- sameika (10/5): Amazing - Amazing! The staff really cares about you and your needs.
- Jodi (8/5): - Loved the villa and palapa. Service was slow and thr restaurant was often out of things.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Privacy. Great food. Beautiful property. Amazing accommodations.
- Melissa (10/5): - This is a beautiful, quiet, and special place. We went for a week of diving and snorkeling and spend time with our kids. The staff is amazing. My kids were sad to leave all their new friends. Dive shop is first class and you can be at some of the best diving in the Western Hemisphere after only a 10 minute boat ride. Resort has kayaks and paddle boards as well but it was a little too windy to use them but we had plenty to do. We had the inclusive meal service which was a lot of food. Resort staff took care of every request with a smile and total efficiency. We loved it and will be back
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great unique resort! It is like you have your own private resort! Staff was excellent! Only downfall for us was there is no beach. Other than that it was great! Great snorkeling... you don’t have to leave the resort to get a great experience.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The property concept was unique. The private island, pool and environment were very nice. The staff was very friendly especially Josh. He made us feel great from the first day to the last. The negatives were that there were small ants on the floor. We didn't notice until the last day and you can't really see them until you stare at the floor for a few seconds. Worse than that was that there was an awful sewer smell once or twice a day. It would last for 10-15 mins then go away. I think it came after a rainfall. I don't like being negative but am submitting an honest review.
- Christopher (10/5): The resort is beautiful, very quiet and serene. Th - The resort is beautiful, very quiet and serene. The people are very friendly. The restaurant is excellent. All meals were wonderful. This meals were very good. The accommodations were first class with a beautiful setting. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely rooms, polluted beach - Well-maintained and comfortable rooms (we stayed in a villa on the cay) which can be used with no air-con during the day, due to the breeze. The on-site dive operation is excellent, offering three dives a day with single-dive options. The palapa, complete with hammocks, is brilliant. The food is generally good, although we had to order our dinners before 3 pm. There are several minuses: the kayaking equipment and wooden boardwalks around the island are badly maintained. The private island is sandwiched between two ugly and noisy ports; the resulting hubbub from the ports can be heard during the day and night. A lot of trash gets washed out, causing the beach (and coastline around the cay) to be regularly filled with floating rubbish. One day, we had a nasty oil slick polluting the beach.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved our little bungalow on the beach! The diving and dive staff were amazing!
- Ciro (10/5): Great - Great
- Annette (10/5): Highly recommend - The staff was so professional and polite and the hotel was an oasis. I would highly recommend anyone to stay here. You won’t regret it!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed at Barefoot Cay because we wanted to be in a quieter area, away from the big resorts and commercial zone. This was PERFECT!
- LMR (8/5): - Accommodations were perfect. Restaurant was OK but over-priced and took a long time to be waited on after ordering. Bar had trouble finding a blender that worked. But, proximity of Bar/Restaurant/ Pool was great. Staff was always trying to please. And the place was spotless.
Location is a bit remote so requires a taxi to West End. Try a local as it is half the price of the resort taxi.
- L&P (8/5): - Lovely palapa, great snorkeling spot and convenient scuba
- Jennifer (10/5): - My husband and I just returned from a week-long stay at Barefoot Cay to celebrate our 25th anniversary. I cannot speak highly enough about the resort and it's staff - everyone was friendly and helpful and made sure that we had a relaxed, fun stay. Our accommodations in one of the charming, beachfront bungalows was absolutely wonderful - I already miss the sound of the surf! We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Barefoot Divers staff for patiently teaching us how to scuba dive - it was an incredible experience. If you want to learn to dive, this is the place to do it! We will most definitely go back!
- Mj (10/5): - Super nice staff super clean place very quiet and relaxing. Hardly any people there as there is only a few rooms available. Max at any given point of people was roughly 10 that we saw. Capacity is roughly 24. Didn’t like all the trash around the dock area that was never cleaned up. Everything else was perfect.
- Misha (10/5): - so luxurious and amazing. Everything was wonderful. The palapa out on the water was heavenly.
It should be more clear on their website and Expedia’s that the property has two different areas. The loft is very different than the cottages. There are wonderful things about both. But it should be obvious so people can make a decision. Especially about the barge. Which is quick and easy and fun but should be considered when deciding when to stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice and quiet hotel - We loved our stay at Barefoot Cay. The resort is beautiful! The staff is very friendly and helpful and the food is AMAZING! Will definitely be returning!
- Paul (10/5): Great Stay - Secluded and Quiet - We found the Barefoot Cay staff to be very attentive, they accommodated no matter what we requested - they simply deliver! Josh and Vance are the best at what they do; they truly went above and beyond! The facility is great; the pool, restuarant, dive shop, and accomodations are all 1st rate. Although, the resort is near an active port (that can sometimes heard from back areas of the cay), it's isolated with restricted access - we definately appreciated that.
Diving is completely awsome, enough said.
Off the resort, the island is what it is ... rough roads busy with traffic and cruise ships and all that goes with that. Taxis can get you there when you wish to go for restuarants, shopping, activities, siteseeing, etc. It's generally a 2 to 4 hour adventure when you want to do that kind of stuff. Or rent a car and drive to the less populated east end of the island to find spectacular isolated beaches and a very cool bar/restuarant. Resort staff will definately point you in the best direction and make arrangements for whatever you want.
See you next year, guys - we're absolutely coming back and we're bringing friends!
- Shawn (10/5): Very private and quaint. - We loved our week there and look forward to returning as soon as we can.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Little Resort!!! - We stayed in the 2 bedroom loft above the dive center. The room was very clean, although the floor tile was a bit dated. The staff the Barefoot was all amazing. Polite, professional and helpful. Its a small resort and all the staff knows all the guests. They took care of everything we needed including a stop at the local market when we arrived. The food at the restaurant was very good. We arrived on Sunday in time for the weekly "Sunday Funday" which featured live music, inexpensive snacks and drinks. Its was a nice way to open the week. And the singers creative rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama" was highly entertaining. The pool was beautiful and the palapa dock was great for snorkeling. It's only a short swim to the reef. All of the rooms have outstanding views of the channel, the reef or the bay and there are lots of places at the resort to sit, relax and just enjoy the peace, quiet and beautiful view. If you are at all interested in diving, this was a great place to get certified and take advantage of the several boats the hotel owns. There are several diving excursions each day. Overall, this was a lovely place to stay in Roatan and I highly recommend it!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent dive faclity and staff. - Staff worked to make our stay as smooth as possible. They arranged for off site experiences, deep sea fishing, dolphin encounter, shark dive, car rentals and dining options.op
- Pete (4/5): Room was quite nice - Resort is situated between two shipyards, so there was often noise coming from the work being done there. It is also not close enough to any offsite services, so you always need a taxicab to get to shopping or restaurants (roads are very poor and driving your own rental car would require nerves of steel!). Resort was very quiet however, not many patrons, pool was very nice. Food was quite good, but quite pricey for dinner. Resort manager lives on site with four (!!) rescue dogs that bark alot.
