Guest Reviews
- Seema (4/5): The View - This was so disappointing. This was my first time in Washington and the reason I chose this hotel was because of the location and that we would have an apartment. Unfortunately, the apartment was not clean and we didn't feel comfortable. There were a few doors on the wardrobes which we nearly falling off. The bed sheets didn't look clean. The location is perfect but unfortunately there is buidling work next to the apartments so the main entrance is blocked off so you have to walk around the back to get in. We asked for a fob to use to enter the hotel and the gym but were told that there weren't any available for us?
- Jacob (10/5): Great Apartment in a Great Part of Town - This little apartment was such a great place to stay in such a great part of town. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would def recommend to a friend. Thanks for the good times.
- Tonya (8/5): - The location was amazing. There are restaurants and a grocery store nearby. The apartment had stained carpet and needed more pots and pans to cook with.
- Verified traveler (2/5): extra fees every time - This place took be an hour to checkin because they could not get their keycodes straight.
The AC only worked half way through the entire trip and could not be fixed.
Then they have a cleaning fee that is always changed (160.00) plus 1% of total bill for the facility but is not in the paid balance.
- Gregg (2/5): Worst Experience Ever - We booked this apartel for 4 of us for a week. There is not enough space here to list everything that went wrong.
Cleanliness. The bath tub had mold around it. The microwave was dirty. Baseboards were filthy. Bedroom carpet was dirty.
Amenities. The pool was closed. 3 days of 90 degrees plus but no pool. 4 towels were expected to be enough for the week. Iron did not work. One burner on stove worked. 2 pieces of silverware. No cookware.
Facilities. Bedroom was small. Bed was 6 inches from the wall on one side. The door was a sliding door that offered no privacy. Bath faucet leaked. Power outlets seem to work only intermittently. Vertical blinds had missing blinds. Couch/Bed had protruding springs. Table legs were wobbly and unfixable. The living room floor had large gaps in the flooring.
There was a new building being constructed 20 feet from our window that began every day at 7 am.
Service. Nearly non-existent. The only communication path for service that existed was a phone number to an office in Armenia. I'm serious! You cannot get face to face with anyone that can help you. When the power went out in the bathroom we were told it would probably take a day to get it back on. It turned out to be a breaker behind a screwed on steel panel. I've never considered heat as an amenity but when the weather changed to cold we found there was none. They sent us blankets the next day.
This was the worst hospitality experience of our life.
- Chris (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE If you like comfort or sleep - They moved me from one room to another and they were both the same. Super thin walls, cheap furniture, $44/day parking (even if it only says $14-$22), dirty, uncomfortable bed, loose outlets (phone charger will not stay plugged in unless rigged), construction crews in front of the apartments and behind the apartments start work early (my stay was until 5/12/17), additional 'cleaning charge.' (It is cheaper to spend $130-$150/night at an extended stay hotel. And even though it was 50 degrees outside, and I had the temperature set to 80 inside, but inside it never got warmer than 60 degrees.
BUT, the people there at the front desk are nice, and try to help with issues, and they were no bed bugs, so it gets 1 star from me.
- Kim (8/5): just ok - Location was great Close to Metro. Starbucks right down the street. Apartment had a futon for a couch hard as a rock. Tub had chips in it but clean. We basically slept . TV set in Spanish , Horrible smell in hallway that drifted in our room.
- Ben (6/5): Convenience and Location - At the discounted rate this was overall a good bargain. The 1 bedroom apartment was very well located in SW DC near major food store, restaurant and transportations. The apartment was relatively clean and equipped. The only difficulty we had was entry to the apartment. The owner/management company directed us to the wrong address and after an hour running around in the cold and dark, and spending time on the phone with their offsite management who seemed to have no clue, we finally stumbled upon the on site desk concierge who let us in. The on site property manager, Annette, was very pleasant, apologetic and accommodating.
- Maria (6/5): Nothing like the pictures :-( - The housekeeper was very friendly! But the concierge, Romaine, was very rude. Terrible service and she is the reason I will never return and high;y discourage others to come. The rooms was very dated and looked nothing like the pictures. Very uncomfortable. But the wifi was fast and the kitchen was very useful.
- juana (4/5): good locación but bad service - To went into the apartment we expensed 2 hours the code of the door did not worked . The fob was never provided, and made us to wait for one hour 40 min to tell us they would not provide fob .they did not have televisión , the sofá did not worked.nonebody available at the time to check out.
- Mary (6/5): Great location, clean, great staff, tired unit - Location directly across the street from Metro station was ideal! Excellent Safeway 1/2 block beyond the Metro station also perfect, so that I could have coffee and breakfast in the apartment. Large one-bedroom apartment was spotlessly clean, but condition was very tired. Building was fine, but the unit I stayed in, despite being clean, had old, permanently stained carpet, chipped plates and cups, and a sofa with no springs left in it at all. I could feel the hard edge of it when I sat. The bed was surprisingly comfortable for one, but I could tell it would have dipped badly in the center had two of us tried to sleep in it. In fairness, for the rate that might be all I can expect. I would stay at the View again for sure, but I think I'd see if a different unit, even at a bit more money, were available. I didn't choose the unit or see pictures of it, by the way. I just chose by location, 1-bedroom size, and price.
- Humberto (2/5): Worn out and poorly maintain place.. - I booked the hotel online because the pictures looked decent enough and the price was right. When we arrived we notice the place had not been cleaned completely but we tried to overlook that, but once we tried to go to bed we discovered the sheets had not been replaced (they smell) and I tried another set of sheets in the closest and they were clean but stained. I called the number they gave me and they sent a guy with sheets, but he just deliver the sheets (which also looked old) with the expectation I was going to re-do the bed myself, and that was enough. I jumped back online a booked another hotel right away (down the road) and left.
This place needs to be totally redone, the furniture is old and worn out (too many college parties here), the carpet was dirty and of course the bed was disgusting.. pay the extra money and go somewhere else..
- AV (6/5): Great Location! Staff very helpful and nice! - The location is excellent and the price was very good for DC
- Nicole (6/5): Convenient but a bit run-down - Relatively short walk to the Mall, Capitol building, etc.
- Nyuol (2/5): Sketchy Armenian-run hotel - Ginosi Apartments who manages this property rents this from the Leasing Company for the View Apartments, and most likely does not pay any hotel taxes, which is illegal. Hotels.com should take them off their listings. Moreover Ginosi is not the same as the property concierge, so they are unable to swiftly resolve problems (check in and key handover, report of left belongings). I had to call their Burbank, CA -- in reality they are ALL based in Armenia-- number to follow up on two separate occassions for a three day stay. They also require a lot of paperwork (ID, photo of credit card front and back, authorization form if card holder is not the same as hotel guest) that is not required from other hotels. I am convinced that Ginosi is operating illegally and should be shut down, apart from the horrendous customer service that they provide -- and only through the phone. Very sketchy hotel. I am calling DC Better Business Bureau to report them for lacking hotel license and tax evasion.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Apartel on Waterfront - The area around the hotel is all under construction. The hotel itself is in semi-condition. Lots of dogs in and around the hotel. Noisy. The room itself was not well maintained. Clean but old. Some kind of a stench. Carpet throughout the apartel was stained and dirty. Definitely would not stay there again. The only positive thing about the stay was the nice and helpful lobby staff.
- Eftychios (2/5): - The light in the bathroom did not work. there were no extra blankets for the couch and definitely not worth $400 for one night
- drew (6/5): Interesting - This was an interesting stay. If you want to stay in an apartment with people actual living in the surrounding apartments, go for it. Lacking amenitites.
- Leigh A. (10/5): - We really enjoyed this hotel. It was quiet and very family friendly with great staff.
- Christine (2/5): - Just a quick note about the hotel. The place has no AC in the rooms, bathroom is very suspicious and I'll probably wear shoes to go in, shower curtain hasn't been changed in at least couple of years and most of the lights don't work. I can even lock this place when I leave because inside locks are all broken off. Has it not been for the fact that I arrived so late I probably would have left and gotten another hotel.
Not your fault, you couldn't know, but please make a note for future reference that this is not a place where any of our guys should stay. Plenty of brand name hotels around.
- Alex (6/5): Apartment/hotel close to attractions - Apartment/hotel with full kitchen was ok. The room wasn't as big as we thought, for the price OK I guess. The staff was friendly. Lack of cleaning service on daily basis.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great for a few days in DC - This is a terrific place if one wants to stay in DC for several days.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Only if you have no other choice - The room was dirty. There was black mold/dust on all the vents. The floors needed to be vacuumed/mopped. There was no way to control the temperature in the room. The room temperature was over 80F. When I called "maintenance" to plead for some relief, I was told that it was not really Ginosi's property, so they couldn't do anything about it. Customer service was non-existent.
- Debra (2/5): This place is a SCAM! - This place is a SCAM! They tried to change me $249 for a night when I booked this place for $99 on Hotels.com. They would not accept my Hotels.com confirmation number! DO NOT STAY HERE! They will not accept the rate quoted on Hotels.com. BAIT AND SWITCH! I had to leave and had no place to stay.
There's a Marriott Residence Inn down the street. And, of course, the Mandarin Oriental (which is fabulous, but pricey)
- M (8/5): Nice DC apartment, great location, - Would stay again and recommend. The location, price and service were all great.
was charged a cleaning fee of $120 . some reviewers mentioned issues with the concierge not being present , difficulties getting into the building and the address not being correct. I had no such issues. Parking was available right in front of the apartment complex for $5 a day, however only method of payment was via personal check or money order.
the elevators were small but the luggage cart for bags fit fine.
stayed in apartment 212. close to the elevator but not so close that was noisy.
apartment was approx 600 sq feet in size.
Smelled like shrimp alfredo in the hallwall each of our 3 days.
Decor was as in the photos; modern.
Nice futon in the living room, nice queen bed and a rollaway folding bed.
wifi worked fine.
no vent in the bathroom. water flow in the bathroom sink was very poor. water flow else where was excellent including the shower.
There was no can opener but there was a toaster, coffee maker, electric kettle
paper towels, dishwasher powder, coffee and tea.
cooking equipment :
full stove, microwave, 2 pots , 1 x 8 inch skillet, cutting board, sharp knives, colander.
sufficient plates, bowls, wine glasses, silver wear.
dish washer didnt work very well. All other equipment worked . Didn't test coffee maker as there was an excellent machine in the lobby.
I could have used a TV instruction manual.
- elvis (4/5): Better off at a hotel - The a/c only works in the summer, parking is $5 that has to be paid with either money order or check, room furniture is cheap, the walls are thin and you hear everyone around you. And they charge a $120 cleaning fee. Easy access to metro.
- E (2/5): I would never stay here again - first of all the staff was completely incompitent and couldnt get us the correct number for the keypad to get into our room. we are located next to the elevators which constantly made noise. the dishwasher is broken and there is no soap or sponge provided, but even though we had to pay an insane $120 room cleaning fee, we are expected to do the dishes. ????
the table was broken and could not be moved to pull out the couch. there is no parking. they do not accept human cash or credit, they only take money orders. ?????? ok.
the carpets are disgusting. this did not feel clean at all. there are about 3 decent channels. there is no cable. the wi-fi goes in and out. i constantly had to log back in. if you're lucky enough to get the apartment shown in the description of this place, congrats to you! if you have to stay in room 701 like us, cancel it while you can. happy travels.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Don't stay with this hotel/apartment - Why $120 cleaning fee????!!!!!
- Not Provided (6/5): Great family value near the mall. - This "aparthotel" consists of around 15 rooms in an apartment building south of the mall--a couple of buildings from the "Waterfront" metro stop, which offered fabulous access to the Smithsonian and mall. The area is up and coming, with a new amphitheater next door. Furnishings were sparse and somewhat shabby -- spots on the rug, sofa bed didn't work quite right--but the price, size, and location were perfect for us!
- Erica (8/5): Clean, nice little apartment, off the beaten track - Even though the neighborhood is safe and very clean, it's really not a neighborhood for hanging out. No restaurants are in the area. However the "Waterfront" metro stop is right in front of the hotel, and the Washington Mall is only about a mile away. A Safeway grocery store is next door to the hotel, so you can stock your fridge for meals in your apartment if you like. The building is a real apartment building with tenants, in case you were wondering. This is a very good buy for the price.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Overall my stay was great. But not having the a/c working was very disappointing but because it was cool outside that made my stay bearable. And my dishes was not clean after paying almost $200.00 in cleaning fees that is required of you to pay if you stay there. Made me wonder if my sheets were clean.
- Marc (8/5): Great alternative to a traditional hotel - I travel to DC on a semi-regular basis. This time, something must have been going on and I couldn't find my usual hotels inside the belt. I saw this "apartment" and out of desperation, I booked it with no expectations at all. To my surprise, it was awesome. A full one bedroom apartment, with a nice kitchen and comfy bed. It was perfect for my stay. There is a Safeway grocery store right next door and even though I wasn't expecting to be a chef those two nights, I went and picked up some groceries and cooked for myself. Probably saved me a few hundred bucks on dining and as a small business owner, that was great. I'm going to try to stay there any time I go back! The people at the front desk were super cool. The only gotcha was the $120 cleaning fee they tacked on a checkout, so keep that in mind with the price, but it still comes out as a great deal versus many DC area hotels. Oh, FYI... they don't offer parking, so if you drive, just know that.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Confirmation number did not secure room - Staff at the facility were great. The reservation company behind the scenes was not. Bungled the reservation and left us stranded in the lobby at midnight for more than a hour.
The room was stale and the air was stuck on heat. Bed was small and not comfy. We asked for a refund and luckily it was granted.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - This is an apartment building with a few hotel rooms, wholly unsuited to be a hotel. Great confusion on check in. Little guest services. Heat was on even on 78 degree day. Off room configuration with TV in different room than bed
- Thomas (6/5): - The hotel was in average condition I would suggest the carpets to be at least cleaned if not new
- JOYCE (6/5): My stay at the view apartments - The apartment was clean and in a great location. One block from metro station, bus line, safeways and small restaurants. I loved the large windows which made the apartment sunny and bright. Two of my concerns were,(1) There was only one tv in the living room, so at night, we had to move it into the bedroom and place it on a stand,(2) The bedroom was small and one side of the bed was pushed against the wall making it very difficult for me to crawl over my husband to go to the bathroom at night. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
- Shea (8/5): Good but things you should know before you book- - The View was a great place to stay if you are going for a week or more and would like an apartment rather than a hotel. A couple cautions: one set of towels, one set of sheets. Enough coffee for the first day and enough shampoo fir a few days...this really is an apartment with a full kitchen but YOU need to stick it including coffee etc. Fortunately it is right next to an awesome Safeway store that has salad, breakfast, dinner bars as well as standard grocery fare. Also right next to Metro stop and bus stop so no meed for a car if you are exploring metro DC. Another caution too-there is a $120. cleaning charge that is not figured into the moghtly room rate. If you are a week or more, it is still a reasonable deal for what you are getting, but just saying...
Our only real complaints were that while clean, floors were sticky as if mopped and not rinsed, no dish towel although there was a roll pf paper towels, and while there was lots of hanging closet space there were only 3 coat hangers. All in all though, now we are forewarned about that all stuff we would stay there again.
- John (2/5): Disappointed in The View - The room at The View was best described as "cheap", for example:
o The was an extra charge of $5 per day for parking, this could have been included in the price.
o The sofa bed was decidedly uncomfortable.
o The woodwork in the bathroom was in bad shape.
o TV was limited to very few channels.
o The furniture felt cheap.
Bottom line, the entire room experience was best described as "cheap".
- Janet F (6/5): Convenient neighborhood - The neighborhood was very convenient for a family touring Washington--a half-block from the Metro and a Safeway store. A few restaurants, no nightlife. Great outdoor pool, good wifi, poor TV. Wish we had known we had to bring a check to pay the extra fee for parking. Needed a couple of serving bowls in the kitchen to make real meals possible; a brush & dustpan would have let us sweep up better between housekeeping visits. Cosmetic maintenance needs to be done.
- Simon (8/5): Stay here! - Great location next to subway and a supermarket. Staff were friendly; full size swimming pool; well stocked gym; clean and tody apartment. Perfect for us
- andrew (6/5): 4th of July in DC - 4th of July in DC. These accommodations are only a block from the Waterfront MTA station and Safeway and CVS are only a block away too. Super convenient. Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The apartment was ok, location is not the best if you are visiting and want to have shops or food.
- Malcolm (4/5): We weren't impressed ! - This is NOT a hotel, it is private apartments. We arrived at 9pm and couldn't get in ! A resident let us in and I had to contact the owners to contact the concierge, to come and give me a key ! I had to part with my credit card to a stranger which I didn't like. The room is OK, well used, broken toilet seat, reasonable cleanliness. No where to leave luggage. Close to a subway and supermarket. We had two nights booked, we left after the first night for another hotel. Extra cleaning $75 per visit.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Convenient and comfortable - I stayed here for a week of research at the Library of Congress. Half a block from the Waterfront metro and a Safeway supermarket. Only three metro stops to the Library. Kitchen was a big help. Extremely convenient!
- Jeff (8/5): Great apartment - Very clean and spacious apartment, would definitely recommend to friends when they stay in DC.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Loud Banging noise from the Compactor kept me up - While the rooms are clean and nice. The banging coming from the compactor shout vibrated through the room like the walls were being hit by a wrecking ball. I told the front desk but there was nothing they could do. So with only 2 hours of sleep the next day had a very bad experience at work.
I should of at least been reimbursed or relocated but that never happened. I would like someone to own responsibility for a night i spent 300$ to not sleep. Never Again
- Srikanth (8/5): - Overall this was good. Kitchenette was good. Quite near to Metro station and also supermarket. There were some network problems with respect to Wireless connectivity. Needs to be addressed properly.
- Business Traveler (10/5): Great Location - Our room was very clean and comfortable. I forgot to bring coffee so that I could relax in the morning, so I headed out the apartment to the nearby Safeway with a Starbucks inside for my morning coffee. It was a quick five minute walk! I would stay there again the next time I have business in DC! Great Location and everyone was very friendly and helpful.
- BettyS227 (6/5): Good alternative to hotel but not perfect - I had business on the south side of the city, where good lodging is scarce. PROS: This is a nice sized 1BR apartment in a safe, residential neighborhood near the harbor. Grocery store, great restaurant and metro stop just around the corner. Full kitchen, modern furnishings. CONS: Difficult check-in process, took 45 minutes. Door code provided rings an off-site leasing office and goes to voice mail. Lobby smelled like a wet dog, apartment was a bit warn, carpet was full of stains and the bathroom not very clean. No hairdryer. BEWARE: A $50 cleaning fee was added and only noted once the confirmation email was received. There is no indication during the reservation process that this fee would be added to the cost of the room and I scoured the fine print. The rental company would not acknowledge the issue when I lodged a complaint. Perhaps if I left the apartment a wreck I would understand a charge ~after check out, but I left it cleaner than I found it.
